Hi,
a lot of people here probably know how to continue to use Vidalia and manage their connexions in the new TBB (which is not including anymore Vidalia) with the "WorldMap" feature.
For those who don't know Vidalia and the "WorldMap" feature, it allows you to see the TOR tracks used, and "drop" a TOR track if it is bugged or too slow.
For those who haven't find the way, didn't know it was possible to continue to use Vidalia to manage your Tor connexion, or simply would like to have the "Wold Map" feature that allow to manage a minimum the Tor connexions, here is a very simple how to :
- Install TBB in the secured and updated last version from TorProject :
Always use https://www.torproject.org/
(Avoid at all costs any other sites like SourceForge, used by hackers to host fake TBB packs compromised with viruses.)
Start TBB as usual.
DL the "Vidalia StandAlone" and install it, you won't find it on the main repository but it is available here :
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/TorBrowserBundle3FAQ#WheredidtheworldmapVidaliago
https://people.torproject.org/~erinn/vidalia-standalone-bundles/
After the install just start the Vidalia standalone version and the Vidalia control panel will detect the existing tor connexions of your TBB and will bind itself to TBB.
You have now the World Map functionnality in the new version of TBB but remember a few things :
- it is still two spearated softwares, if you close TBB, Vidalia will not be able to manage the tor connexions. - if TBB is not opened when you launch Vidalia it will not work. - If you ask Vidalia to close TOR, it will do it but you won't be able to relaunch TOR, you will have to redo the whole process to go back to a TBB and Vidalia working.
Feel free to add anything to what i said if i forgot something or did some mistakes, i will Edit the OP.
