John Oliver on mandatory minimum sentencing for drug crimes

If this doesn't break your heart you must be made of stone:

As a side note: FAMM is a lobby organization advocating to roll back mandatory minimums. Check out their website if you want to read more and get involved. I donated some money, but I am not affiliated with them in any way.

It goes without saying that the entire prison system needs a major, MAJOR overhaul. There's some shit in the works right now, but it's not 100% sure if it will go through. I'll have to find it.

Thanks made my morning. Needed the laugh. That said fuck the racist war on drugs. All of us need to stand the fuck up.

Drugs come up everyday in conversations. Start jumping in and saying it is all bullshit. 50 year ago they fucking lied to me about everything. Pot will kill you type shit. 40 plus years smoking and I am fine. Did acid had fun and didn't jump out of building.

We are on our second generation of people that have zero respect for the law. Change is slow but coming. Both my son's in there 30's were raised to never trust police. They are raising the 3rd.

If you ever get the chance for jury duty fucking go. Just maybe it will be a drug case. And you can use jury nullification...

Ok now tell me what an ass I am. At least I will stand up and be counted.

John Oliver's show has been one of the biggest factors in raising awareness on some of the worst public policies on the books today. Which is sad when you consider how long these policies have been laws. The only problem is the stigma attached to some crimes is so entrenched in the minds of ordinary voters, they are still easily manipulated to support tough sentencing, let alone de-criminalize/legalize use of mis-scheduled substances.
