Securely deleting data on your HDD

Recently, many of you have been getting paranoid and wanting to nuke everything and move to Belize. I've seen people suggesting using DBAN 7-pass or 35-pass. What if I told you there was an easier and quicker way?

Simply install a Linux distro that has full disk encryption. Have it encrypt your entire drive. Then when you need to move to Belize, just format the drive and install it again, encrypting the disk with a different password this time. Now, when the SWAT team shows up for your 3 grams of weed, they'll have a warm time recovering your data, as it will be all encrypted noise, and you don't know the password of the old thing. Be sure to use LUKS mode when encrypting.

More importantly it will be encrypted in the first place meaning if they grab it before you delete they cant access without the password, and if you fear the 5$ encryption breaking wrench, with a small bit of extra effort you set up and give them the key for the fake but indistinguishable overlapping drive.

Giant magnet. Followed by a sledge hammer.

Or buy an SSD drive. SSD has a secure erase function that is fast as a mother fucker.... theyre coming down in price too.
