Hi all, searched around here and /r/agmarketplace for help with this, as you guys have experience with handling disappearing packages, etc.
My friend recently (August 7th) shipped a large sum of cash domestically in the US through USPS to another friend across the country. This package is not in any way related to dark-net matters, nor should there be any reason for either of their addresses to be suspicious. I am merely turning to you guys because he is frantic and you are an invaluable resource regarding this topic.
The cash was hidden between the pages of a magazine, sealed in a (maybe several) large ziplock bags.
The packaged was shipped Aug. 7th via USPS Priority Mail Express 2-day with money back guarantee. I believe the package was insured at the default $100, but I will have to check with him.
The package was sorted and scanned as departed from the initial facility the same day he shipped.
Since the 7th, there has been no update to the tracking info. Scheduled delivery still says Monday, August 10th.
Steps we have taken:
Called the initial facility, the issue was given to the supervisor. Waiting to hear back from them.
Filed a claim through the USPS website.
We were wondering what we should do in the meantime? Anything we should or shouldn't say? I advised him not to tell them that the package contained cash (unless they asked him to identify the contents to prove the package is his), but to only say that the package contains a very valuable item.
I know the deal, don't invest any money you can't afford to lose. I didn't realize that rule applied to USPS as well ;). My friend has never ordered anything through a dnm and wasn't aware of the risk (I would've advised him otherwise). We are looking for help regarding the current situation. He is aware that this is partially his fault for putting too much trust in USPS so it would be appreciated if that doesn't get restated in the comments.
Anything else we should or shouldn't do? Thank you all!
Will update as we figure things out.
This sounds like straight post office theft to me.
