Former Cybercrime Godfather, now Security Consultant, discusses an "Encyclopedia of Fraud"

DarkNet Markets. What does that mean? Well, for most it means either drugs or fraud. Now, one might argue that drug sales aren't that bad, especially since most of those drug sales are weed. Hell, I'm tempted to argue that myself and I don't even smoke. The other, harder, drugs (um, Fentanyl)? Pretty damn bad. Still, there is an argument to be made in support of certain drug sales on the darknet.

What is almost universally agreed to is that Fraud is bad. I say "almost universally" because the only people who are in favor of fraud are the fraudsters. Hell, on this very forum I sometimes have trouble posting anti-fraud related tidbits and I'm a legal person now.

Currently, I'm discussing a "Fraud Encyclopedia" that is being sold on the darknet. I'm releasing it so that those who are victims of fraud better understand the forces against them, how organized fraudsters are, how they operate, the tools used, techniques, etc. I'm writing about it so that those who wish to protect themselves, their families, and their organizations against fraud can better understand their attackers.

I had to sign up just to make this comment.

Although those posts are well written, I feel like giving yourself the title of Godfather of cybercrime is far fetched. I spent 10+ years on underground markets and managed some of the biggest carding forums world wide. This is the first time I've ever heard of your username/name.

Also taking advice from someone who went to jail seems very counter productive. It's like getting advice on taxes from Al Capone.

If you need advice about carding/hacking, the one thing I can give people is unless you live in Russia, or have no regard for going to prison, you're not going to make any money doing this.

I ran Zeus botnets that were 6 figures strong, and the dangers associated with that type of business are never worth it. Easier to make money selling drugs on the street than you are by cashing out dumps/banks.

What can you tell me about the darknet that i cant find out myself Brett?

I respect you Gollum, you already know i do. However, a great deal of fraud is effectively victimless.

I think it's great you try to help the ppl who actually are victims, however i think you're being unfair if you say fraud is very bad. I know you know that the majority is insured.

Four instance, let's take credit card fraud for example. The ppl who's ccs are stolen never actually lose a dime. Not even time. I've gotten my card stolen, and i was not inconvenienced at all.

I think it's a great idea to educate ppl but you should not warn them against the organized fraudsters because they are already protected against them. Better to help protect ppl against ponzi schemers, con artists and wells Fargo employees opening up multiple accounts on their name.

Also, I'm still waiting for your email.

I get tired of this "fraud is like super risky" myth.

From my experience fraud is something a hood rat gets away with, maybe you want to prevent fraud, but lol.

Take my mules for example, receive packages over the years, not one bust, at most the post office sends a nasty letter telling them to stop, that an even be verified by news article, haha

The article seems more than a bit overblown to me. I mean seriously, cybercrime godfather? Yegate has been around for a couple years at most. I read some of his posts on TR forums, and I wasn't really impressed. Most of the stuff in this encyclopedia, he posted for free in either the hansa or the TR tutorials section (i can't remember which one, they come and go so fast now)

Id classify what info has been published (as part of the encyclopedia and on the forums) as rudimentary. Way less detail and useful utd info than, for example, banned books beginners course (CUVE) and even way less than was available for free on AB's forums under the free tutorials sections. His method of 'browser spoofing' (nonsense term, ftr), for example, is not going to get you very far in the modern environment. VM's are antiquated tech and easy to detect server side. LOL VIP72 and the other long since burned socks stores.

I was on the AB guide review board for several months, and would have failed this 'encyclolpedia' for sure if it had come up for review as anything but an absolute beginner guide.

Nothing is horrible, though most of his methods seem dated... just pretty basic... youre not going to make real money doing stuff like that.

tbh, the way you talk him up on the website makes me think youre yegate and trying to talk your alter ego up.
