Printer OPSEC: Inkjet better than laserjet?

I understand that all laserjet printers have traceable dot signatures (advertised or not). But is there something similar for inkjet printers? Would I be safe with any tails compatible inkjet printer?

Are you trying to print out addresses for packs? If so just get a cheap-o heat label printer. They run like 50 bucks and work great. It comes out like a sticker and you just slap it on the pack.

Black only laser printers do not have this as the tracking watermark is traditionally yellow. If it used black watermarks they would be more easily detected.

[1 Points] Morvu:

there are actually lists which show which printers do use this traceable dots or not, you could use the article posted in this sub (which linked to the source which included such a list) or you simply google for it

Check craiglist or second hand stores for a printer and pay with cash.

Inkjets are completely fine. Untraceable.1

1 About the only thing which could potentially be done to incriminate you on a technological basis with regards to a specific inkjet printer used, would be to confirm if a certain printed document was/wasn't printed on an inkjet printer found or otherwise proven to have been in a suspect's possession.

This would be the prosecution doing this, incidentally. Meaning the suspect was caught via whatever other means. And even then this topic would only arise in obscure cases where a legal argument was being proffered contingent upon the presentation of such evidence linking the printed document (Exhibit X) with the seized printer (Exhibit Y). The only time I could imagine it arising would be within the context of a federal counterfeiting case.

Honestly if it gets to the point where police are taking a look at your printer, looking for microdots, you're probably fucked anyway
