TIL - an epidural = fent

First off let me start by saying I don't take, buy or sell drugs, but I love reading the posts in here - particularly those regarding stories of escape + arrest.

Anywho about to become a dad. Started the birthing classes where they basically teach you common sense shit and then force you to watch a child birth video. Gross stuff. Anyway, TIL that the epidural they give ladies to remove feeling below the waist is fentanyl!! Isn't that the shit most guys are scared of? Now I feel like a dick for giving my kid a hit of the opioids (fent no less) before it's even born..

This is not quite true.

An epidural will always contain a local anaesthetic (usually bupivocaine/levobupivocaine). This is your central neuroaxial block which stops the woman from feeling pain.

Opiates are given on top of this to enhance the effects of the block. They are not always used. It's common to see fentanyl or diamorphine used in epidurals.

Now these medications all go into the woman's central nervous system directly. The doses are very very small compared to even IV opiate doses. A miniscule amount makes it into the woman's circulation and even less into the baby. There is no opiate effect on the baby.

Opiates are rarely given IV/IM/orally to women in their third trimester as you can get opiates into baby's system from those routes. However epidurals don't have this issue.

You also have to consider a trained anaesthetist gives the epidural. This is someone with 10+ years of training with the benefit of thousands of $$$ of equipment and research at their disposal. This is not the same as some guy selling fent on alphabay.

So there's no need to feel bad about an epidural. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing :)

Big difference between the fentanyl transdermal patches or hospitals administering it in a safe setting and opiate addicts buying stronger analogs of it and trying to correctly dose it themselves.

I had fent. They used it to put me under for a minor operation. The anesthesiologist was a professor, and relished fucking me right up for about 10 seconds. Best. High. Like getting sucked off by a choir of angels.

Medical grade fent, dispensed by trained professionals in a setting where my vitals are being constantly monitored and everything required to save my dumbass standing by, is a lot different from someone buying what they think is some decent H, but has a big chunk of fent mixed in, slamming it into whatever vein and nodding into oblivion in an alleyway.

and "gross stuff"? damn, you wait till that kid is shitting black slime and puking everywhere while pissing on you and screaming for food.
