Do vendors set up buyer accounts and "buy" themselves to establish reviews?

I've always noticed that young vendors that aren't well established have the same or similar reviews "good product 5/5" or something to that effect, and was wondering if this happens. They wouldn't lose money this way and can build their own dark net rep. I feel like this could make scamming so easy

This seems to be "Step One" in the "Establishing yourself as a vendor" handbook

Sure it could happen. People have been accused of it before, but who's to know if they are fake or not?

But, for example, there has been times where people say a vendor signed up 2 days ago and already has 5/5 reviews saying the product is amazing. Even if someone did buy it, the chances of them getting it that quick are slim.

But if they have been a vendor for a while then who knows.

It's the same calculation as for "buying" reviews on eBay. As long as the market fee is proportional to the order volume faking significant reviews, i.e. for large orders becomes expensive.

Of course it happens. But, say on Agora, it shows how many deals the buyer has, so if all their buyer feedback is from buyers with 1 deal then it'll be obvious they're doing that. So then they'd have to create multiple accounts and first make other purchases on them before buying from themselves, and that's a lot more effort.

Oh, and they lose the 4% commission.

I'm not sure it's worth it to scam, really, on sites with vendor bonds. They'll never make back that money because the second they scam a buyer, and that buyer leaves feedback, no one else will buy

this is way more rampant now.. in sr1 there was the og.. kingjoey obama girl scammer.. bet they are round still to this day

Yes. I forgot about this whole line of reasoning as further evidence why on market ratings should be ratings of transaction success, not a full-blown, nuanced vendor review.

This is why you look at sites like Reddit, look up the vendors history, look at forums and look for legitimate feedback. It's easy to fake feedback, but it's hard to get away with shilling on a massive scale.
