Do vendors cancel orders if the price drops sharply?

?

Yes, they can and they have. But not all of them do. If you're large enough of a vendor, that kind of shit aint worth your time.

That varies by vendor, surely.

If they're a big player, they can take a minor loss for the sake of customer service.

Newer vendors, however, often operate on thinner margins and therefore have a high likelihood of canceling due to price drops.

This is my understanding, anyways.

What makes you worried? Bitcoin has been on a steady upward trend for the past 3-4 weeks!

They certainly can. It's kind of a shitty thing to do, but if the operation isn't big enough to eat the costs, some vendors will.

I've never had that issue but some do. What's most annoying is the slow shippers seem to be the one who does it. Mail the fucken product if you can't take BTC fluctuations. A bigger vendor should be able to smooth the volatility out, in theory at least.

I've wondered if derivatives for BTC exist? I haven't really researched but if so, a vendor can hedge the valuation volatility with some derivative contracts.

It happened to me before, BTC tanked 100$ in 2 days, he just canceled :(. That sucked because I usually buy btc the same day so I'm not affected in case it drops.

[1 Points] 2005C:

bitcoin exchanges are more likely to delay with big price fluctuations than vendors.
