It's the jump off point for a package to continue to its final destination. It's one of the main facilities and often will not be in the same state. If you sent something Tuesday and the expected delivery date is friday it may very well sit at that origin point for a day before it continues to the delivery location. There are many packs now and the priority is getting them within the scheduled time.
