Best anonymous texting app?

I am discussing possible DNM plans with my associates, what is the best way to do this anonymously via text message? Ive seen a few apps like burner/wickr, are these good options? Just taking precautions with all the run ins with LE I see on here.

Signal/text secure if you're on Android

For desktop applications, i use Ricochet https://ricochet.im

Ricochet uses the Tor network to reach your contacts without relying on messaging servers. It creates a hidden service, which is used to rendezvous with your contacts without revealing your location or IP address.

Instead of a username, you get a unique address that looks like ricochet:rs7ce36jsj24ogfw. Other Ricochet users can use this address to send a contact request - asking to be added to your contacts list.

Signal all day every day. It won't help if they're really really trying to get you, but it adds an extra layer of asymetric encryption so that the cops who chose to break the law and use stingray devices can't see your texts. I make everyone use it.

Threema is nice as well.

Talking with a burner phone over voice is your best option for anonymity. Text = logs, logs = incriminating data, incriminating data + you = have fun in prison.

A messenger pigeon.

Seriously Android has been compromised and cell phones are by nature a spy device that you can not control, that tracker sends out unencrypted packets like a Jew picks up the coins from a little girls smashed piggy bank. Very fast and animal like. So smash your phone and use tails/your own secure distro that only you and your monkey know about.

Messenger pigeons are the most secure way thou

Signal or ChatSecure

I know Signal is promoted by EFF and Snowden and all that good stuff, but compared to Wickr it requires a helluva lot more permissions. Some of the permissions it requires are completely unrelated to its function, and that raises red flags to me.

I may just like tinfoil hats a lot, but imagine how easy it would be for an agency as powerful as the NSA, CSIS, FBI, or whatever to create or fund a "secure messaging app" like Signal, and just have a chat with anyone involved and basically scare the living shit out of them to make sure their app is thought to be "secure". Voila, false security for criminals and a treasure trove of evidence for LE.

What about something like this?

http://chamelephon.com/

Stumbled upon it the other day. Doesn't seem like it is shipping yet, but if it's what it says it is -- could work well.

how does signal work? I've downloaded wickr and signal, and wickr self destructs texts within 30 minutes (supposedly), siingal just seems to have a text option, whereby you can 'delete all logs' after you've sent texts.

The only downside is signal doesn't require a log in to log into signal, which is a bummer.

Signal on face presentation looks just like whatsapp - trying to figure out which [part pf the messaging does the encryption take place? ANy ideas? What am I doing wrong?

edit: i emailed wickr about their ability to provide Law Enforcement with chat logs and got this response:

Wickr Consumer Support Division replied:

Thank you for contacting us. We at Wickr are committed to operating in an environment of complete transparency while respecting each individual’s right to privacy.

We are always open to cooperating with law enforcement. Messages are stored on our server but they are encrypted and deleted right after they are downloaded by the recipient’s phone. We do not have a history or copies of messages exchanged by anybody on our system. We also don’t have the decryption keys thus we can’t read any of the messages sent through Wickr.

That said, a properly served subpoena through the U.S. judicial system requesting information about a certain user may entitle the issuer to information regarding (1) the date an account was created on Wickr; (2) the type of device on which such account was installed; and (3) the last date of use.

We have additional information in our Privacy Policy and Law Enforcement Guidelines that you may be interested in:
