Dog easily finds molly with mylar and vacuum bag

Was watching "Border Security: America's Front Line" on Netflix (Season1: Ep13) and a dog picked up on some molly from an envelope pretty easily. I couldn't really tell if it was only one vacuum bag, but do you think double or even triple vacuum would've helped?

If the layers weren't rubbed down then that could also explain why it was picked up by the dog easily.

"Border" keyword. Pay the extra tax for domestic and don't eat cock meat sandwiches for 2-5 bahahaha

Dogs smell scent molecules.

When you prepare drugs there are scent molecules everywhere, including on the outside of your super secret special packaging, the envelope, the stamp...everywhere. Unless you're preparing it in some sort of vacuum you are relying on getting lucky or your alcohol swab somehow removing every molecule.

You know how all the smart arses try and tell you how useless drug dogs are because of all their "false-positives" ? Just because you don't have drugs on you at the time it doesn't mean the dog can't smell the weed your friend smoked around you 3 days ago or the pills you had in your pocket yesterday etc etc

Maybe the vendor got some on the outside of the bag? Very easy to do

I read once that the biggest issue with sealing is the sealed packages aren't washed afterwards, and neither is the packager's hands, so residue makes it to the outside.

I've known people to double-seal then put through a dishwasher all packages, apparently this reduces residue massively

It definitely would have helped single vacuum seals isnt enough.

I got pulled aside by cops for a canine search as I was driving into a festival not so long ago. I had a good amount of MDMA in the car, sealed in MBBs. They walked the dog around the car and then let me go.

It's possible that the dog wasn't trained on MDMA, though. They busted a lot of people coming through that checkpoint, but it sounded like most of them had unsealed weed with them, acted sketchy, or even straight up confessed. I'd imagine that border security dogs might get a higher level of training than local police dogs.

Dogs are animals. I know it seems very obvious but it really is worth noting. They get hungry, they get bored, they get tired. Generally you can work with a dog for one hour, and after that is just isn't interested. I am sure custom dogs are better trained, but they are still restricted by a time limit. A dog's smell can only detect specific things when it is actively looking for them, and when is not overwhelmed by other smells.

I am going to make a guess, and say the vendor was lazy and fucked up, for the dog to get a scent. Maybe the packaging smelled of molly, which makes the whole process of hiding the drugs pointless.

[1 Points] ccashcow27:

What probably happened was poor packaging. Sure, vacuum bags and mylar prevent the smell from getting out, but it doesn't prevent substances from getting on the packaging. This is why it's such a tedious process to safely package everything. From bagging to cleaning then cleaning again. Lots of places to fuck up. Never expected having clean rooms as a vendor? Well shit - wake up call.

acetone wash helps apparently
