I wonder how many of us glazed over this attribution? It is a remarkable statement.
Society has been pretty good at predicting things this century. Once Moore's law was understood and proven mostly reliable it was gloves off.
There used to be a site that tracked everything in George Jetson's world (technology and concepts) vs. 21st century reality. They stopped updating the site a couple of years ago because we had mostly checked it all off. The only exception was flying cars and the dude that started the site was confident that directional changing flying cars defied too many laws of physics in just parking it.
While my Jetson's comparison could not be shittier, I don't think anyone ever could have predicted that a Sheriff's (STATE!) Agency would have required a fully budgeted, fully operational, and fully staffed Parcel Interdiction Team to police a Federal Agency because their output included too many packs of narcotics. In the old days if there were something hinkey in the mail Uncle Sam assisted jurisdictions by dispatching USPS G-Men (uspis) to go work with local agencies. 99% was a "big bust" of stolen ciggys or pornography magazines.
