Can someone explain the hidden score thing?

I dont really understand why some peoples karma score is hidden, is there something in the preferences where they choose for that? It seesm rather random. At first I thought it was because the score was so low below the threshold but im not to sure about that anymore. Can anyone explain how this works?

Because:

The goal of this feature is to try to reduce the initial bandwagon/snowball voting, where if a comment gets a few initial downvotes it often continues going negative, or vice versa. By hiding the score for a while after posting, the bias of seeing how other people voted on the comment should be greatly reduced.

Subreddit owners can make the scores hidden for a set amount of time after the user posts. I think the default is "1 hour". After an hour (or whatever the variable is set to), the score becomes visible.

It's reddit hiding the points, mostly to prevent vote brigading. Sometimes people just downvote or upvote because that's what everyone else is doing.

Vote fudging, is what reddit calls this if I recall correctly.

I've never encountered this. What user have you seen with a hidden karma?
