Have you ever had a package delivered to the wrong address?

I'll preface this with: there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of the postal service in my area, along with layoffs from the local branch office that delivers my mail. It never occurred to me, but what if they deliver one of my packages to the wrong address? I have had a non-dnm related package incorrectly shipped to a neighbor down the street with an address similar to mine, and the fuckers opened it. Of course, they then made sure to throw it in my yard in the rain two days later. Anyway, what would you guys do in the event that a package was delivered to a residence that is not your own? What would be the implications of this? One would think that since opening another person's mail is illegal, one would have some sort of protection. Thoughts?

I live in a small southern town (~25,000) which means the police and courts do what they want unless you have plenty of money. I lived in apartments and a personal amount package of cannabis was put into the wrong box. The person took it and opened it and called the cops. A few days later the cops did a CD. They came posed as a neighbor trying to return the package (the guy was obviously a cop: baseball cap, sunglasses, mustache). I didn't say the package was mine, I didn't touch or even reach for the package or accept it anyway.

After saying the package wasn't mine the cop pulled me from the doorway handcuffed me and started asking questions, but I shut up. They then got a warrant to search the apartment (nothing, but a clean house).

I spent a few days in jail denied legally prescribed medication I brought with me with at least 30 requests which caused me to seizure and stayed in the medical hold/solitary. They also stole/lost some of the medicine. I then bonded out got in contact with the best lawyer I could afford. Went to court and still got probation and fines.

The only evidence they had was a my name on a package. This was my first offense, not even a traffic ticket.

I really relied on the DNM for my cannabis medical use. The DNMs were just the perfect, beautiful mix of technology and drugs that gave me passion. I have no one in real life that I can source anything. So drugs and many aspects of my life are over or suffering because of a post carrier mistake and a neighbor I've never met.

This has worried me the most about DNM orders honestly. The postman can be the weak point b/c of a fuckup he makes. This has happened with one DNM pack - it was delievered to my neighbor who thankfully returned it to me unmolested. And like you, I have had a non-DNM pack delievered AND opened by the wrong person as well. This one was delivered to a completely wrong house on my street (not a direct neighbor, lived probably 10 or so houses down). They came and were extremely apologetic as they showed my the opened box. Luckily it wasn't DNM related. This is where I think a decoy comes in handy. Most people, when they accidentally open a pack, will see something they know they didn't order, re-check the address label, and return it. With no decoy, who knows how far they will go in opening the other layers of stealth.

There is a misconception on what constitutes felony opening of someone else's mail. In short, it has to be with on purpose and with malicious intent. Accidentally opening someone else's mail doesn't qualify for this, IMO. I'm no lawyer so maybe there might be a defense should this happen, BUT I wouldn't rely on it. A person who opens a package in their own mailbox has reasonable cause to believe that the mail is intended for them. So I'm fairly certain that the person opening the mail wouldn't get in any legal trouble (unless they actually stole your mail from your mailbox), maybe there could be a defense to it. That I don't know. Maybe like a "fruit of the poisonous tress" concept? Still think its a longshot though. Best defense is the same as if it were seized by USPS en route - lawyer up, say nothing, let them try to prove their case.

With DNM packs, I never get tracking so unfortauntely I'll probably never know if its mis-delivered until its too late. I guess this is why you should maintain a clean home and be mentally prepared for this scenario. Unfortunately its a very real possibility.

BTW: Your neighbors are complete assholes.

The postman knocked on my door, then I heard him talking to my neighbour, turns out the random name I'd picked was also the neighbour name! The postman gave my neighbor my 8oz of weed or was it 16 I forget. 5 minutes later the neighbour jumps in his car and zoomed off, was he running to the sorting office after noticing the mistake (I don't think so), was he zooming to the cop shop (nothing has happened nearly a year later, so I don't think so). What I think happened is he sped off to chuck it somewhere, being that he is a non-LEO, but affiliate, I guess he thought it was some nasty piece of work he's fucked off setting him up to loose it, they would of fucked him up in jail. Or maybe something else occurred, as it happens I've never broached the subject with him

I've actually noticed an increase in postal service quality in my area. I moved a while back, and put the wrong zip and city on the package, but I've always been fairly friendly with the mailman. He remembered I'd talked about moving and rerouted the package for me. It wasn't DNM related but still. He didn't have to do that haha.
