[xpost /r/alphabay] Can we please have a way to secure our personal info when the order isn't accepted?

I've always been very uncomfortable with the way the markets send your info to the vendor even if they do not accept the order.

Should this really be the standard practice? Why can't Alphabay withhold the seller PGP messages until after the vendor accepts the order? Why is PGP even a checkbox? The info should be rejected if it's not PGP encrypted.

I've recently had a few orders go unaccepted and I really don't love the idea of people having my full name and address if they don't need it.

Cos your name or address could be a reason WHY it's not accepted. Maybe your address is something stupid (I read something about people having orders sent to court houses etc as a drop)

Part of a vendors OPSec is vetting customers based on what little information they have and they don't want to be accepring an order and then sending to some bullshit address

Keep in mind, on Dream the vendor could always just "accept your order" and then cancel it after getting the address. Vendors can cancel an order up until they mark it as shipped, customers can cancel up until it's marked as accepted

Vendors aren't going to cancel the order then record your dox and send it to the FBI.

You should be asking a question instead of making assumptions about what Alphabay does with the info accepted or cancelled.

You think vendors just dox whatever orders they don't accept? If they were determined they'd just accept the order and then dox you. What's the difference?

Basically others have brought up all the reasons. Lets assume they did change it so that the address part was seperate then the order notes section. That way they could put stuff for the vendor to see in the notes section about their order, without having to show their address there. The idea being a vendor sees the notes, clicks acept, then it shows the encrypted address for the order. As others have mentioned, the name/address itself can be a reason why an order is not accepted.

Other information included in that section can also be a reason to reject an order [like a customer saying I need this by yesterday, if you cant time travel back and get it to me before i atually placed this order, then please cancel the order. Or, more realistically, I need this order by Monday or Tuesday at the latest so if it wont arrive by then please cancel. And they placed the order like 2am on Sunday or some stupid shit like that. PLACING an order Saturday evening thats shipped priority mail does not mean its going to show up Monday, or even Tuesday for that matter. ]

Really, its just not a useful idea. It would not provide any actual real security. Any vendor could still get your address and then cancel your order. Or some variation there of. There is no real way to keep your address secret from a vendor you placed an order with, even if it ended up being canceled. Its just one of those trust things that go along with buying something on the darknet. A buyer has to expose those private details, shipping details. Really its probably the last thing you need to worry about. At least with a piece of mail they have a controlled delivry they could do. An address supposedly used to orderd drugs...not very strong or useful evidence. Your protected from people having drugs mailed to your house in order to send your to prison (why they need to prove you knew the package was coming and you knew what it was, otherwise anyone could frame anyone with zero effort).Without even anything being sent, its wortheless
