Ross grew 10lbs of mushrooms? After just learning how to grow? Rly???

http://www.wired.com/2015/01/ulbricht-allegedly-planned-silk-road-brand/

Correction 1/21/2015 10:55: An earlier version of this story mistated the context of a quote from the journal found on Ross Ulbricht's computer, and quoted the journal as stating he had grown 10 kilos of psychedelic mushrooms when he had in fact grown 10 pounds.

He also reveals he was just learning to grow for SR (FBI finds grow purchases in his amazon at that time) and then overnight he manages to do scale production of mushrooms....um bullshit. Mushroom growing is really labor intensive, monotubs only give out a few ounces dried in total, he would have had to been doing 20-30 tubs over the course of months to produce that, and thats if he didnt fuck up. Thats hundreds of pounds of horseshit that has to be sourced, dried, cut and pasturized, you dont just open up your easy bake oven and away you go. Either he's lied about that (personal journal...meglomaniac?) or spent the better part of a year in rent and supplies eclipsing whatever profit he could have made from it.

growing shrooms isnt that hard imo, people use rice and wheat flour instead of horse shit noadays anyways... once ur done your first 90 day grow cycle you can increase production by 10 fold and so on and so forth for every 90 day grow cycle (as long as you have the space and containers to hold it all)

Growing bulk shrooms is only slightly more work than growing a small amount. It's very easy to scale things up in small stages.

The PF Tek is pretty popular: It involves colonizing canning jars of sterilized rice flour and letting them sprout mushrooms in a humid tub. With a certain size jar, you might get a half-ounce per jar.

Instead of settling for that half-ounce, you can take out the colonized rice flour from a single jar and break it apart inside a bag of sterilized bird seed. Then let that colonize and let it sprout mushrooms. Depending on the size of the bag, you might expect something like a quarter pound.

You can take this even further and break the bird seed apart into sterilized hay, and now your hay produces a pound of shrooms that were colonized by a jar that otherwise would have produced just a half-ounce.

People tend to do a dozen or so PF jars at once, so ten pounds is not out of the question for a novice grow.

In my experience growing mushrooms isn't THAT hard. Years ago (long before SR1) my girlfriend and I ordered spores off some clearnet website and we where able to produce 2 jars worth of usable shrooms, with a third jar that ended up failing to sprout anything. We just followed some instructions found online and (rice-cake method) left the jars alone in our closet for a while (a month maybe? I forget how long it took). There wasnt much actual work involved besides the initial setup, WAY less work then growing weed. Mushrooms are by far the easiest recreational drug to produce.

10 pounds is a lot, our little experiment probably produced less than an ounce, but given that he had a whole cabin I don't think its unreasonable.

You've never grown mushrooms before, have you?

It is not very costly to grow a lb or two. Ten is not out of reach on any sort of decent sized budget

You don't need horse shit you just need nutrients.

You have no idea what you are talking about. People use flour and rice and stuff as substrate... And he filled a whole cabin with it..its really the opposite of labor intensive.

Where is the physical proof of the grow? That's as far as legality is concerned

Yea... they are super easy to grow. They are literally easier to grow than a weed. Seriously. And they don't take up tons of electricity or smell. Anyone who's grown both will tell you shrooms is better and easier to grow.

then overnight he manages to do scale production of mushrooms....um bullshit.

Not really. There's really no limit to growing shrooms, and there's really not much you need to do. Just mix like 2 ingredients together in a big fucking box, put the spores into it, and bam you'll have a couple pounds from that.

Mushroom growing is really labor intensive, monotubs only give out a few ounces dried in total, he would have had to been doing 20-30 tubs over the course of months to produce that, and thats if he didnt fuck up.

A small tub maybe.

Thats hundreds of pounds of horseshit that has to be sourced, dried, cut and pasturized, you dont just open up your easy bake oven and away you go.

Huh? Where'd you get the idea you need horseshit?

Shrooms are extremely easy to grow. He definitely wasn't using a PF tek or monotub (at least not the whole way through). The only limiting factor in growing shrooms is just a matter of how much do you want to grow. Most first time growers I imagine start small because they already have a job and are growing for personal. I guess you could say Ross already had a 'client' set up so he went big right away.

And growing 10lbs really isn't that much...
