Sit Down OpenBazaar, Silk Road 9, ReEvolution:remix & ilk: the true successor to both Tor, the '.onion market experiment', and perhaps the internet itself is nearly upon us...

And it only took roughly a decade of work to bring it to light.

I'm speaking now, of course, of a project known as either SAFEnet or MAIDSafe. Official public site at maidsafe.net. Currently in it's second alpha stage of public testing (with a few weeks out til the MVP or minimum viable product is released), and you can fiddle with it a bit by going here:
https://forum.safenetwork.io/t/dev-update-2nd-test-network-release-8th-march-2016/7747

While currently gaining initial interest and funding as an altcoin that will need to be exchanged for the true SafeCoin upon network launch, note that it is not primarily a currency, though certainly can be used as such, as evidenced by it's nearly $50 million market cap, currently being the solid 5th largest cryptocurrency in terms of value and trade volume despite, again, the network and thus the actual coin itself not yet being live.

There are a good few simple introduction resources to the project and what it is and how it works, but I wanted in particular to list some of the more detailed technical documentation so that those of you with appropriate skills and abilities can, if you weren't already aware, begin to prepare yourselves, because this is The Big One, the one that is probably the only of a handful of similar projects that will likely succeed to any extent. They're also the only one to have a sound detailed technical underpinning that for the most part is one-of-a-kind and genuinely has not been done before, while still extensively vetted. This combined with decentralized and autonomous nature of the entire network, and once this thing is out, there is no stopping it.

I don't have a ton of time to sit here and show you the light and answer all your questions or anything, so if your interest is piqued I'd say check out:

https://github.com/maidsafe - The actual code, you can find the whitepapers and detailed technical specifications on most aspects of the network here as well.

https://pay.reddit.com/r/MaidSafe - it's tiny subreddit

And then the official forum listed above, forum.safenetwork.io, and of course there's a bitcointalk thread or 5 I can't be arsed to dig up.

This one project can without much strain act as a drop-in replacement to the entire Internet, but more specifically for relevance to our interests, you could if you so desired, replace Tor, Bitcoin, the marketplace model as we have it today, and likely PGP and XMPP / other encrypted messaging protocols, though all of them can still be used if desired.

The project that builds upon SAFEnet to give us the necessary infrastructure for trading is also the first major application developed for the network, and is known as SAFEExchange, site http://safex.io/

This is the first chance we have at a decentralized revival that will massively improve nearly all aspects of the current systems. No other project is even close to cutting it for what we require, this includes SysCoin (another blockchain-based implementation of a decentralized market that's been gettting attention lately, but lacks many required features for our use, and the devs are not nearly as technically competent), OpenBazaar or Axis Mundi or similar (there has been talk of porting OB onto SafeNet platform, but I'm not too interested personally), or anything else on the radar that isn't vapour.

Ignore this at your peril, the software in practice is even easier to use than TBB/Tails from what has been publicly released for far, and they do a great job of hiding complexity where it can safely be done , avoiding intimidation, but also not disempowering those who want a more refined knowledge.

Don't sleep on MAID DNMs, I don't know when you'll get another shot any time soon.

NOTE: In no way am I suggesting you should buy the available coins right now, that has nearly nothing to do with being able to access the network later on and its something to do if you enjoy daytrading or early investing into things, otherwise you can completely ignore it. This doesn't require a purchase and indeed if you don't know what you're doing you definitely should not purchase the coin at the moment, as you may very well lose them until they're swapped out.

No one noticed Hiniguel just made a post?

Took some reading, but actually looks promising. It seems fairly secure on paper, and the blockchain has always seemed a little insecure in terms of following coins(though tumbling mostly takes care of that). Plus the feds hard on for hidden services, though I'm sure they're already on top of this..

It will be interesting to see where this goes. I'll be watching, And perhaps one day using, this

Are poisoned exit nodes a threat? Would my isp be able to tell I'm using it?
