For some reason, on nucleus, almost EVERY time, the first time fails. I know I'm typing it right. and it works the second attempt.

They're a problem. Smaller sites can use different mechanisms to prove the user is a person, but bigger sites which are targeted more have to resort to images with random unreadable characters. I'm not sure what techniques are being researched currently, but I know companies like Microsoft have tried different things like typing the name of animals in the image, etc.

If you hit the "temporarily enable scripts" button at the top left of Tor browser it reloads with an easier captcha.

Any time I run into a captcha on the clearnet, I have that issue. I've resolved to zooming in with Ctrl + +. I have pretty good eyes, but damn if I don't screw those things up without making them bigger
