"Provided object is too short" error when creating PGP

Using GnuPG to create my key and am admittedly in over my head. I'm following the how-to and entered my name and email (fake) and started to create my key. Got a couple errors stating

keydb_search failed: Provided object is too short

But at the end it said public and secret key created and signed.

Next I tried

gpg --list-keys

and it gave me the same error and said the public key of the ultimately trusted key was not found. Trying to do my best to give you guys all the info but am stumped.

I'm on Windows and followed this guide up until 3.1 Creating a Key

Any help?

If you're on windows, just use the gpg4win suite and do everything in GPA. Waaaay easier than figuring out all that command line bullshit.
