[GeneralQuestions] Difference Between hydro and soil grown weed?

What are the inherent differences that come with buying Hydro vs soil grown weed? Is there always gonna be a different smoke, smell, taste, potency, etc.? Which method produces the loudest buds? And which do you prefer?

Edit: Lets throw organic into the combo also

13LiNdMaN seems to not know about Hydro. Hydro has larger yields esp DWC and Aero. Also has the control of all the nutes to the exact Parts Per Million. Smoke is the same due to the last 2 weeks of a grow no nutes are added and the grower flushes. I do find hydro comes out better overall.

Hydro systems take alot of the work out of growing and nutrients can be monitored more precisely some say it grows faster but are costlier than soil or organic. All the state licensed farms i worked on constructing decided on soil based growth and use cloning instead of germinating seeds for the best cost ratio. I personaly think hydro has its uses but was mostly just a fad that is fading

Hello Q!

We would like to see if we can help you out here. As far as the end product goes which is better there's a lot of variables and skill that goes into each one. So there's no REAL answer. Although typically hydro produces more potent results on average due to the amount of control you have over nutrient distribution. There is also a lot more that can go wrong with hydro vs soil. With hydro it's very possible to get a chemical aftertaste if not flushed properly. The same can be said for soil, but the soil tends to be more of an absorbent so the taste doesn't come through as much to the flower. Now if there both flushed properly none of this is an issue, most however is rushed to market to recover growing costs (which can be quite expensive).

Typically hydro will give you more of a "sweet" tasting flower vs soil giving you natural earthy tones showing through. So to be honest it's really preference, coupled with whoevers growing your weeds skill. Some people prefer soil over hydro and some prefer the hydro. It is true that hydro produces yields about 30% faster. Thanks bill nye the science guy!

Now on to organics! About 90% of flowers you get will have nutrients added throughout the growing process to increase the yield, change the taste of the buds, make the buds more dense. Think of miracle growing steroids, it's not a one stop shop for a chemical that helps your plant grow but a combination of 5-20 products! Now this isn't a bad thing but when your talking about organics there are no pesticides herbicides or artificial chemicals added to the plant when growing. This includes treatments for spider mites and mold, which is a huge problem for indoor growers. The end result ends up tasting much more smooth and you just feel better smoking. It's like if you have eaten McDonald's for an entire month and then had a home cooked meal.

Hope this helped :)

Soil all the way. Gives it a nice taste. We didnt find no ganja plant growing in the middle of a pond we found it in soil. Also not related to dnm maybe /r/microgrowery

[1 Points] STB_KING:

Hydro and organic are not the same. Organic has betters tastes, hydro is cheaper/cleaner/bigger yields.

Too many variables within genetics/phenotypes to say this grow method produces this type of bud, etc.

Do t listen to these know it all idiots on here. Your better off googling and reading.

Hydro seems less potent to me

[1 Points] don_crackavelli:

I grow and there is really no simple answer. Hydro is a cheaper way of growing that gives large harvest yields. Organic can be very nice and will give you the full flavor of whatever buds you are growing. Just do some reading on the subject, there is no simple answer that anyone here can give you.

Marijuana tastes better in soil (speculative) and it's easier to grow. Unless you've had a few grows you should start out in soil. Anyone wanting to learn to grow anything needs to start off learning how the plant grows naturally with soil, then you can tweak it out in an aero or hydro system. I've seen plants get douced in nutrients by new growers and you can flush out some decent soil pretty easily and try and get back to homeostasis. Just my 2 cents.

Carrying around and hiding bags of dirt is an extra layer of work unless you own a lot of property.

IME, the differences are in the growing method. Outdoors, you can't beat that big old Sun with well prepared soil. Indoors, good news is you can control the water, the humdity, the critters that like to eat it, leo in their fuckin helicopters, fuckin hunters and trespassers, etc. Bad news indoors is, you HAVE to control all those things, or you will fail.

IF a grower knows what they are doing, fucking excellent weed (by ALL measures of what fucking excellent weed is) can be produced either outdoors or indoors. As far as the weed goes, neither is superior to the other. An individual grower's situation would dictate the route to take.

[1 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

Potency is dependent completely on the genetics of the plant, and its maturity. Nothing else.

I was a cannabis grower for 12 years. Most darknet weed will be hydro. It produces higher yields. If you buy dutch coffeshop weed it will be indica dominant hydro.

The best weed is grown in soil with organic ammendments such as blood, fish and bone. The end of a spliff tastes as good as the start because the buds aren't loaded with fertilizer salts.

The finest marijuana breeds were developed in the US, and US domestic weed is generally better than dutch weed. I'm saying this from the unbiased position of a UK meth vendor.

Hydro is good because you can go on holiday for a few days without having to find somebody to water your plants.

Hydro can grow some beautiful weed if the grower isn't too greedy. The last 2 weeks of flowering is a very tempting time to go for the burn instead of feeding the plants a water-only diet to "flush" them. Many of the buds have withered and stopped growing by this time anyway, so over-fertilization ca be locked-in

Probably the best method (in my fairly ignorant opinion) is a good crop of aeroponically grown bud. In the right hands, can yield extremely fluffy, uniquely shaped buds that are generously dusted in trichromes. Not usually a large amount, though.
