OpSec - can I have a dedicated HDD for personal stuff at home, and another for private activity on public wifi?

Hey all,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have a laptop I purchased with cash on Craigslist that I use for activities that require network anonymity and privacy. All of my programs and necessary information are on the machine's hard drive - as this is a dedicated security machine, I have never connected the hard drive to my home IP and never logged into any personal accounts with it. AFAIK, the machine is completely anonymous and untraceable to my identity.

Now, if I use the same machine, but pop in another hard drive at home for personal use (ie Netflix, social, actual log-ins, etc.), will that compromise my security? Could the MAC addresses be linked?

Thanks in advance!

As long as you're drives are encrypted you'll be fine. Some information can be stored in the RAM and video card until next boot, but that's usually of minimal risk.

as i didnt know the answer to your question i did a bit of ggoling and found this quote

"A media access control address (MAC address) of a computer is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications at the data link layer of a network segment."

so if i understand correctly, the MAC address will not change so yes, it comprimise your security unless you use a MAC spoofing tool.
