Legit content shipped not so legit - rant

tl;dr: Received legit package with obvious false customs info while waiting for DNM package.

Hey. I ordered some electronic components for my hobby projects from china a month ago and the package arrived today, which is weird because I didn't get a letter from customs to pay import taxes. I had to go to the postal office to pick up the box and the lady there noted that; "I see you have friends in China." I was very confused until later I noticed the customs declaration on the side of the package.

The customs declaration states that this is a gift and it's value is 15 USD. It also says that the recipient certifies that the information given in the declaration is valid.

This was not a gift and I paid around 50 USD for this. And in my mind this minor tax fraud unless I contact the customs and fix this. In addition the box is the size of a football and weights less than my phone.

But I also have a non personal size domestic DNM shipment on it's way and can't have any customs dispute right now.

Any ideas on what I should do? Nothing? Pay my taxes? Wait for DNM pack and then fix the tax issue?

You're worried about tax fraud and want to pay the tax on a $50 item? You are the most honest person on the deepweb.

Do nothing?

You're the last person the IRS or Customs is going to come after.

I have broken more laws than that since I woke up this morning. Sit at home and enjoy your electonics hobby.

Labeling these things as gifts is incredibly common.
