Tor, child porn and media bias

I originally asked this question in /r/tor and was told to ask it here too.

I'm doing a research paper for school on tor hidden services and came across a link to a reddit article about how the media exaggerated the number of child porn sites to be around 100 large sites but in reality is closer to 5 small sites. Are there any other uses of tor hidden services the media has exaggerated?

Note: The class this is for is more focused on journalism and reporting than technology. If I focus the paper on technology or how tor works or anything other than the writing prompt, I'll lose points. The main question I'm asking here is: Are there any other uses of tor hidden services the media has exaggerated?

Mainstream media always pick the most extreme single aspect of a topic and depict it as virtually the norm, for teh shock value. It's disgusting and the reason I never owned a TV.

There is an automatic crawler maintaining a complete uncensored index of onions. When I went through that index of many hundred URLs a month or so ago, there were around a dozen entries which title hinted at CP. There were 3-4 (clearly fake) assassination sites, the markets (and quite a lot phishing copies of them) as well as a handful of vendor shops; virtually everything else is carding and fraud related apart of a few geek and hoax sites.
