Sub Updates - A New Mod & Some Changes

Good Sunday to all you out there!

First, I'd like to announce that we have added a new mod to the team! He's someone I can never remember his username quite right, but take some time to welcome /u/DerkaDerpaDerp! Like many of you, he's been extraordinarily helpful as a member of the community, I feel he'll really help lighten the load of the team and will be a fantastic addition. Welcome /u/DerkaDerpaDerp and hope you have fun modding with us!

Also, we've gotten quite a bit of feedback regarding the quality of posts in the sub. We listen. We agree there are problems. One fact is, for us old timers, the sub will never be how it used to be. Its grown, there are more people aware of this sub, and it probably will never be the same small community it once was. But that doesn't mean things have to be all bad, growth can be positive.

So given the theme of the complaints, we are going to be modding things a little differently. For quality posters, this will have 0 impact. What we are going to do is monitor posts for quality. I guess it'll be the unspoken Rule 17 - shit posts will be removed. Put thought in your posts. Also, if a question is asked that has no way of being answered by the community, it'll be removed. If you have a question, be specific about your question. If your pack is late, the community isn't going to know if you are fucked. However, if you have specific information and a specific question, that's different. You will notice that these sorts of posts will be remanded to the either the noob sub or the paranoia sub. Removal of the post won't result in bans, unless there is some egregious situation, so don't take it personal, post in the recommended sub, and move on.

As such, this type of curation is dependent on the judgement of the moderator. If we want better quality, this is the way it'll happen. Curating content is the only way to ensure that the quality of the posts is good. So a removal might not be due to a specific rule, but if a post is removed, there will be an explanation as to why. If you disagree, message the mods and state why you feel the post should be approved.

Also, we rely heavily on the community to help police things. We can't be everywhere. Use the report button! If we want a quality sub, it falls on each of us to contribute to it. It can't fall on the half dozen mods solely. We are a community. That requires participation. Also, you may have noticed Automod has gotten a bit extended and witty. We are testing out an Automod system that comes with canned responses to very common questions. Its not fully baked yet, just trying things out. But something like this will enable teh community to help mod the sub in an easy way.

I would also like to take time to recognize /u/100x100ug for his Herculean efforts in helping me with Automod. I had asked for help on a specific problem and he took it and ran with it. He spent really long looking at the problem, created a sub to try things help, and he helped a ton with it. Some of you might have noticed his flair, his flair was in recognition of his help and his continued efforts with this place. Thanks again /u/100x100ug!

Thank you and we are looking at ways to make things better around here. Please feel free to offer up any suggestions. Also, take some time to welcome our new mod!

Happy to hear that /u/DerkaDerpaDerp is part of the moderator team, overall a great poster and I don't doubt it'll transition into the same level of moderating.

I find myself upvoting/downvoting quite a bit, but not reporting enough, this post has served as a good reminder to do so.

Thank you also for the recognition; I really appreciate it!

Great choice theeconomist! Welcome TRIPLE D and congrats. 100x100ug has been a great contributor. I love the unwritten rule of only quality posts. We aren't mind readers, no idea where your package is, if your address is burned, etc. Respect the community and the mods for all the hard work they put into this sub daily. THANK YOU ALL!

[2 Points] berneraccount:

That is some dope flair /u/100x100ug

How do you pick these people? Like I'm not mad or anything but like I'm offended I never got a offer :(

Mods, can we please create some drug-specific review templates. Weed is a very different drug than meth and meth is very different than LSD etc. and I feel as though we need those specific formats. Additionally, can we please have some sort of mandatory title in reviews? Something like:

[Vendor/Market] Drug/Quantity/Price/Location

I get that this would make reviews less common but that may be for the better. The sub has gotten clogged with reviews that are way too likely to be shills. This sub needs to become more strict about the quality of reviews. We are a community that needs to have the highest standards held for vendors and it should be near impossible to get a perfect score across the board for them.

Reviews are broken and desperately need to be fixed!

I have left reddit for a reddit alternative due to years of admin mismanagement and preferential treatment for certain subreddits and users holding certain political and ideological views.

The situation has gotten especially worse since the appointment of Ellen Pao as CEO, culminating in the seemingly unjustified firings of several valuable employees and bans on hundreds of vibrant communities on completely trumped-up charges.

The resignation of Ellen Pao and the appointment of Steve Huffman as CEO, despite initial hopes, has continued the same trend.

As an act of protest, I have chosen to redact all the comments I've ever made on reddit, overwriting them with this message.

If you would like to do the same, install TamperMonkey for Chrome, GreaseMonkey for Firefox, NinjaKit for Safari, Violent Monkey for Opera, or AdGuard for Internet Explorer (in Advanced Mode), then add this GreaseMonkey script.

Finally, click on your username at the top right corner of reddit, click on the comments tab, and click on the new OVERWRITE button at the top of the page. You may need to scroll down to multiple comment pages if you have commented a lot.

After doing all of the above, you are welcome to join me on a reddit alternative!

Ha ha! nail on the head.

I never bother upvoting or downvoting anything, but I assume when users do that they are essentially getting rid of the shit posts.

Do we really need the moderators short-circuiting the way reddit functions and being the arbiters of taste instead of the community? Because I don't remember this sub ever being much better than it is now

Who are we going to insult if there are no shit posts? Please let one through a day, for our sport. And the bedbug interest checks etc

[1 Points] BlackGoatSemen:

Yay /u/DerkaDerpaDerp !!! And Yay to /u/100x100ug !!! Totally jealous of the flair BTW. Wants it!

[1 Points] pressedlessed:

I just want to say thank you. We need good oversight. I had been thinking of just not coming here anymore. I change usernames every month or two, but I've been coming here for a long time. No more three word posts that add nothing to a thread. I'm happy you are here!

I have to tell you there are about 20 posts in this thread that should be removed right off the bat.

[1 Points] sukmifatdik:

I will never trust you "new mod"!

[1 Points] throwerawaylikemeani:

How did DerkaDerpaDerp become a mod? I knew on thebarons a bit of dick sucking would get you to the mod position but I was expecting better quality control on DarkNetMarkets. I strongly suspect he is a Quantik shill account.
