Silk Road Prosecutors Ask Judge to 'Send a Message' In Ulbricht Sentencing

Who would have guessed.

http://www.wired.com/2015/05/silk-road-prosecutors-ask-judge-send-message-ulbricht-sentencing/

Ahead of Ulbricht's sentencing Friday, prosecutors in his case have sent the judge a 16-page letter asking that Ulbricht be given the maximum possible punishment of life in prison. And one of the reasons for that harsh sentence, the Department of Justice attorneys argue, is to "send a clear message" to anyone who would follow in Ulbricht's footsteps and create the next Dark Web drug market.

I hope these prosecutors fall ill and can't get the drugs they need.

[25 Points] None:

wow, assholes.

their 'sending a message' isn't much different than Ross' 'sending a message' using a hitman. except theirs actually has a victim.

[27 Points] MrCrappy57:

They want to send a message? Ok here is my message: thank you, Ross. You changed the world. I'm sorry that our government is so fucked up.

[13 Points] helooksfederal:

“Ulbricht did not merely commit a serious crime in his own right. He developed a blueprint for a new way to use the Internet to undermine the law and facilitate criminal transactions,” the prosecution writes. “Using that blueprint, others have followed in Ulbricht’s footsteps, establishing new ‘dark markets’ in the mold of Silk Road, some selling an even broader range of illicit goods and services than Silk Road itself"

Sentencing him to life is going to do nothing, this will have a snowball effect. The war on drugs, forever losing.

[12 Points] crowdfundross:

Let me float an idea for those who still support Ross- what if the prosecutors- Preet Bharara, Serrin Turner, Timothy Howard or the Honorable Sen Schumer- what if they had consumed illegal drugs themselves? I'm not saying they have, but if somebody...an ex girlfriend, law school buddy, somebody came forward to say that they had done coke or smoked weed with Prosecutor X...wouldn't that be a huge PR embarrassment that could potentially help Ross's position? What if somebody crowd-funded a BTC bounty for anybody with credible allegations? Similar to what Larry Flynt did when Clinton was being impeached for sex- he announced a cash award for anybody prosecuting Clinton who had had an affair, and it led to some serious shenanigans.

Silk Road Prosecutors need to commit suicide for the betterment of humanity, much the same fashion as Hitler.

They might as well get it over with. What, they spend their entire lives chasing a lie to serve the hyper elite for scraps? The only solace really is no one can avoid the truth in the eyes of death, they will, if only for a brief moment, realize their entire lives were nothing more than a waste, spent chasing misery and sadness. There's not such thing as heaven or hell, but that moment of torture and inability to accept death as it consumes you is the closest thing to hell there is for these people.

They will be buried 6 feet deep and completely forgotten to all of humanity, remembered only with bitter hatred and disgust by those who will look back upon these dark times in the future when the cycle begins again and they look through the archives of history, deciphering our messages to hopefully find a better out than we did. And those same who read, will also find that Ross was a hero, a man, whom if flawed, and who isn't, to be praised, but set up by a corrupt institution in order to enslave the masses, he is still willing to sacrifice everything for this, what our founding fathers (the real founding fathers, not the British shills of the era doing then what many of the elite attempt today) would call a bonafide patriot.

The message is clear. Their failed war on drugs continues to ruin lives and cage people. Can't outlaw desire!

In continues to create in my estimation the second generation of people that don't believe anything the governments says or does. DEA throws SEX party's with Cartel Hookers boss bitch quits job get pension of some obscene amount (That was a fucking exit scam). The NSA spying it goes on and on. Greed and corruption at the highest levels. Fuck face Officer DickForce all that bullshit.

We are supposed to just blow all that off and blame Ross for the death of junkies (your drug use is your problem ). BTW I love junkies no offense meant. I certainly can't make that leap.

The hits. Fuck that to. Same as every hit man story. Magically the government is always there when someone wants someone to go away. Fuck them.

Biggest thing this is doing along with market bullshit is pushing all of it back into the shadows with direct dealing. Vendor are tired of getting fucked and personally I think LE is behind some if not all of the recent bullshit.

I think it's cute that they think they're in control here, and that they think they have been in any sort of control in the drug trade/war in the last century. Go shoot some locos, Johnson, you're making the world a safer place.

[4 Points] jinjakjon:

Right, because 20 years in prison doesn't send a message. Spending the most important third of your adult life behind bars isn't a deterrent. Why not execute him by firing squad like they would in Indonesia, now that would truly send a message.

No offense, but I am fucking glad I am not American.

[3 Points] None:

Like send a message about police corruption and put him on probation? Or send a message and sentence corrupt DEA agents to multiple life terms?

[3 Points] MrCrappy57:

Something they can never talk about, that can't be submitted, is all the lives saved by SR. You can laugh at that but there was a story in my state recently- a nice college kid, about to graduate with good degree- decided he wanted to celebrate with some weed, so he went to the hood. They robbed him and shot him in the chest. He died instantly. If that guy had used SR he'd still be alive. And that's just one of countless stories. I read the govt stuff on the OD deaths (only a couple were really direct SR related- heroin), and it was definitely heartbreaking, but think about this: hundreds of people typically die each year from Tylenol toxicity (accidental or on purpose). Should we throw the makers of Tylenol in the slammer for 10,000 years? Maybe the good people at Budweiser need life sentences too? Oh that's prohibition and that doesn't work. Right. Got it.

[2 Points] Underthearchway:

Dickish behaviour but to be expected. Ross' profile is so high he's going to get the maximum they can give him.

[2 Points] crypt0cat420:

I call for the highest level of LoLz against the prosecution!

Fucking cunts

[2 Points] PureNucleus:

DPR. A name that will never be forgotten. He revolutionized the entire drug market until the end of time. I see the man as a legend. Not because of the success but because of his dream. It was a beautiful dream that ended the worst way possible.

[2 Points] MrCrappy57:

If you'd like to message your thoughts to the prosecutors: serrin.turner@usdoj.gov timothy.howard@usdoj.gov preet.bharara@usdoj.gov

[2 Points] footlockervip:

Cause if they send a message administrators will think twice. duh. it always works like that.

thats why you don't see 10 black guys running up to my car as soon as i pull in their neighborhood happy to sell you a $4 bag of dope for 3-5 years in jail. oh wait you do.

[1 Points] None:

Ross does not deserve life in prison. Murderers and people who destroy other people's lives deserve that. All he did was provide an easy and safe way to obtain drugs. It's not like people wouldn't be able to buy them if it weren't for his site. If he gets life it will just further highlight how fucked this "justice" system is.

[1 Points] keseysdayglobus:

This is so fucked.

[1 Points] Tokamorus:

If given a life sentence (or even just for the fuck of it really) it would be hilarious if someone started a BTC pool to hire mercs to bust him out and escort him out of the country where he could cash out whatever hidden BTC he has left and live like a pirate king for the rest of his days. I'd so love to see that headline!

[-1 Points] None:

I agree with the prosecution here. Ross deserves life.

One of my cousins got 30 years for trafficking heroin on the streets. It was his first offense, but since he is a black male there was no leniency in the sentencing.

I want life for Ross so white America can finally see the injustice in their draconian drug laws and hopefully do something about it. Blacks have been dealing with this for decades now.
