Does it help at ALL to use a VPN?

I currently an running TAILS over a DD-WRT router. It is to my understanding that my ISP can see I am using TOR. I know this is completely fine and all but I still feel it is a little sketchy. Especially if I'm using it a lot.

I have access to a very secure VPN which is overseas and has no logs. Would it be safer to route my connection through this VPN? I've been planning on doing it but have read some controversial posts. Thanks :P

Help is a strange word.

You should be okay without VPN, provided you are taking all other security measures. But, it does give another wall between you and LEO, and VPN is a nice big wall with spikes on top and offensive yet skilfully done graffiti on the side. Especially if you can do it free, do it, even if it only helps your piece of mind.

If you are a vendor, then it's a must have, as vendors are a hundred times more desirable to LEO.

Sure go ahead. It's very easy to monitor vpn connection times and keep logs without alerting customers. Also remember that VPN providers won't hesitate to give LE any info on their customers lest they be shut down. TOR is already encrypted, an extra layer of encryption does nothing for you. All VPNs do is give you another weak link in the chain.

If you use a VPN right yes.

Buy one anonymously, not with your own credit card or some way to link back to you. Use one who doesn't keep logs( even if they don't keep logs there's a good bet the ISP does ) and preferably one in another jurisdiction/country.

If you use the vpn for other legit things, visit the same sites you do on clearnet and don't dump cookies or other trackable info its easy to identify who you are.

A well secured VPN, with tor is pretty secure. If the government of a world superpower wants to get you though, they will find a way.

Buy a yearly private internet access vpn with bitcoins and run that when u go on the darknet. Disconnect when browsing other clearnet shit. You are not ssfe however..as someone said, if the NSA wants to find you....they will.
