Is this a scam?

I know this isn't darknetmarket related, but I didn't know where to post this and I knew you guys would have an answer.

I am trying to order from someone and they take moneygram, but since moneygram can be a scam, they said they will ship first. Basically I have to send the money, but before I give them the confirmation number they will send the product. Then once I receive it, I give them the number.

Is there a way he can take the money without me giving the number? This seems sketchy but it might work.

In terms of fraud, the one thing to remember about using MoneyGram and Western Union is this:

NEVER USE THESE SERVICES TO SEND MONEY TO A STRANGER.

Of course it is. I don't know the ins and outs of money gram but if the vendor/seller couldn't withdraw the money and is supposedly willing to wait until u get it why the requirement that you put it in money gram first? He's pretending it's acting like escrow but I doubt it is. If he had zero access to money then from his perspective it won't matter if you deposited first. You would still be able to scan him in that case. Bullshit

instead of sending the money to some fucker you don't know, send it to me instead and pretend you'll get whatever the fuck you wanted to buy

you're still out the cash, but at least you'll think whatever the fuck is coming since i'll give you a tracking number and i'll be happy since i'll have some east african francs or south african rand or west african goats or malaysian whateverthefucks

Never send WU/MG to anyone you don't personally trust, you'll lose your funds in the blink of an eye.

Moneygram is a scammer's best friend. I wouldn't do it.

Without reading the post, yes. If you have to ask, 99% of the time it's a scam. Now I'll read the post.

Ninja edit: I stand behind my original statement.

Don't do it.

I've used Western Union for those Chinese jersey websites so many times and it always goes smoothy.

if its anonymous/safely done, and you get to verify the product before allowing him any control or info of funds or their source, i don't see how he could scam...or why he would think that you won't scam him, and take that risk? why not just convert ur moneygram to btc and do this in escrow preferrably on some normal market site.. why is he not there, or willing/able to use btc..? hm. i would try harder to find similar product from someone u feel u can trust more, on one of the bigger markets, and use (tumbled) btc instead. ?

send the money but dont give confirmation number. Have them send the item to your drop. Then call moneygram and tell them to cancel the transfer. You get your item and your money!!
