Community,
We are going to pilot the flairs for users who help us moderate the sub. The reception to the idea was good and I think it carried a lot of benefits. Firstly, it helps us mod this place! If more people reported violations, our job would go so much easier. Also, this will help us identify future mods as well. We look for people who are active in the community when we look at future mods. However, I think the less sexy side of it, reporting threads, often gets overlooked. So this is a chance for those who may not speak too often in threads BUT who do report stuff to get credit and to get recognized.
Please note that flair is the property of this sub and may be taken away at any given time. Also, the flair isn't necessarily permanent. If flair is earned but then participation plummets for a long time, the flair may go away. There isn't necessarily a time frame or limit or anything, but we may cement something in as time goes. We are just trying it out. Also, we will probably do flair updates on a weekly basis. Again, this will be in flux, but it won't be real time. More than likely, one of us will take a day a week, look through the counts and update the flairs accordingly.
Here are the proposed flairs and requirements. Again, the numbers may change as we get adjusted to the scale but let's try this to start. Any suggestions please let us know!
So, most importantly, how to get credit for reporting?
- When you report a thread, select "Other" for the reason. IN the text field, put in the violation: Sourcing for instance followed by your username. For instance:
sourcing theEconomist1
- In the thread, reply to the offending post/comment with "AM Rule 4"
This is important so we can give you credit for it and increment your counts.
Here are the proposed flairs and counts:
Flair | Min Reports | Max Reports |
---|---|---|
Hall Monitor | 10 | 29 |
Rat | 30 | 49 |
Narc | 50 | 69 |
Confidential Informant | 70 | 99 |
Wannabe Mod | 100 | 129 |
Junior Mod | 130 | Infinity |
I am totally guessing on the scales of the number of reports. This will probably be adjusted as we get a better idea as to participation levels. We don't want to make it too easy but also not impossible either.
Also, we might get fancy and actually do more of a rolling total rather than pure culmative totals. For instance, if its not impossible level of work, we might take a snapshot of the last 30-60 days - but again, this might be way more work so if so, we won't do this.
Be patient as we are piloting this. So bear with us until we get a decent system down.
Please note that "Wannabe Mod" or "Junior Mod" does not imply ACTUAL mod status (maybe should change the flair to prevent confusion, will think with other mods about this) nor does it imply that this person will ever become a mod. Its just an honorary title. Now, we may end up pooling new mods from people with this flair, BUT it won't guarantee anything b/c there could be a disqualification factor (such as being a vendor) or simply not the right fit. Regardless, the flairs are just a fun reward for the community.
Mark my words, the only people that will report and give a shit are feds. Normal people, like myself really don't give a flying fuck. This is a shit idea tbh
