The "huge" fees are to prevent scammers and flakers.

I don't understand how potential vendors expect to be taken seriously but can't fork over some coin for a vendor bond.
If you just want to avoid it entirely it makes you look like a potential scammer and if you post that you can't afford the bond it makes you come off as very unprofessional.

Not sure what you mean by commission only markets. To my knowledge (I'm not a vendor) all markets collect fee's on a commission basis, I believe a % is taken from sales you make.
Most do have a 'vendor bond' requirement, but to my knowledge that's just like a deposit a seller has to put down before they're allowed to create listings. Probably as insurance to help prevent scams, or at the least a slight deterrent to scams worth less then the bond amount.
I am pretty sure you get that vendor bond back once you decide to stop selling.
I am sure others will be able to give more in depth answers then I did.
We're a vendor on middle-earth, you're probably talking about the vendor bond which basically is just a deposit to the market to keep some scammers out of vending. You'll get that money back after you quit vending or after a certain amount of time. If you don't have enough funds to pay that bond please don't start vending! Most markets use a separate fee for vendors, something between 3-8% that applies to every order. and goes directly to the market. You'll need some things before you can start vending, including some good & neutral envelopes, MBB bags, a vacuum heat sealer, bleach, gloves etc. And most of all you can't just open Tor, register somewhere and start your business. It's best to use a separate old laptop or something that isn't running windows or mac. Use Tails or other more secure systems for this. To get everything you should invest something like 150€ at least. Keep some bitcoins available before you start vending, just in case.
I would suggest to look for an established & trustworthy vendor somewhere and ask him if he needs a grower to supply him (assuming you're producing good to awesome quality stuff). In this case you'd just have to ship something every once a while to your vendor and don't have to worry about all that vending stuff. If you however wish to be a vendor yourself please don't just hop into it. Read everything you can find about it online and prepare everything accordingly. (Use Tor for your research)
