So, now that you've seen 'Deep Web'.

Have any of your views changed, or did the doc pretty much just elaborate on what you have already believed the entire time?

Personally, I already felt the government was making an example of him throughout all of it and the blocking of his defense case broke my heart. What I got out of it though was very unexpected (spoiler inc).

At the end, when he was asked where he was going to be in 5 years and then in 20 years (obviously asked before his arrest) his answers were to start a family, make more friends and be connected with the people he loves and in 20 years he wanted to have made a positive effect on mankind. These answers resonated with me and I became a little emotional. It is a horrific tragedy that these are the type of people our government locks away and it's even more of a tragedy when I see posts saying that Ross is "stupid" or any general bashing of his actions, many of which have been proven to be false charges or evidence.

It pretty much put together all of what I already felt was going on.

I couldn't agree more. The guy risked everything and really sparked a lot more than just how we trade. Rights issues, internet privacy, how the law regards all of it, many things were put into the light and I feel like by making an example out of Ross, they fucked themselves in the end.

But my take on the entire thing is that Ross played a part in creating SR, but Variety Jones was/is the primary DPR and set everything up for Ross to take the fall so that he could essentially pull out of the game and be rich. How were the servers found? VJ told them.

I used to hate on Mr. Ulbricht hard back when I fully believe he hired the hit. Mainly because I had a great respect for DPR's libertarian ideals, so I felt very betrayed thinking he was full of shit. The propaganda worked on me... sad to say.

But after all had been revealed I became a supporter of his and had even donated to the Free Ross campaign and plan to support him throughout all of this in whatever way I can.

The documentary just allowed me to peak into how his family is taking the whole thing, I respect them very much.

No, more of a tragedy is that Ross' stupidity put other people in jail and let even more people lose lots of money.

He lied to his partners using sloppy security with their data and thought it's more important to have a journal than protecting those who made him successful.

Quite understandable when people bash him.

dude, that last seen had me choking up for real.

[2 Points] GeneralStarkk:

Last 5 mins or so where he spoke of what he wanted to do was incredibly emotional to me. Had to hold back or I was going to cry like a little girl, which I do admit to having a little fit. It is a tragedy, in the fullest sense of the word. Anybody who looks at that trail, and say it was a fair trail, is a fool. The precedent is set, the 4th amendment officially means nothing in the eyes of the law.

[2 Points] 8yo90:

I'm somewhat confused by it all. Perhaps I've missed it, but I haven't seen any compelling explanation from Ulbricht's defense regarding the journal, which (if accurate) make it clear that he started Silk Road and was DPR running it the whole way through. But his defense argued at the trial that he only started the site, but then passed it off, and only came back on at the end.

If the journals are real, then his whole defense is a lie, and in fact he is legally guilty for running the site. Whether or not he ordered the murder-for-hires, and whether or not his 4th amendment rights were violated in how they got the server (both of which are still important), if the journals are real he's legally guilty. Which means that all those claiming he's legally innocent - his defense, his parents, others, etc - are wrong. The fact it appears he lied about it all - while not surprising given the possibility of an extremely harsh sentence (which he got) - leads me to have less sympathy for him. If he was really DPR and did it for idealistic reasons, he shouldn't lie about it, he should be up front about it, and take the consequences.

Of course, a person might think that the laws should be different and that he's "innocent" in that sense. But that's a different issue all together.

the thing that I don't understand is why he was still living here. you are running a high profile black market. why risk living in California?

[1 Points] None:

Yes. The last scene where he talked about where he felt he'd be in 5 and in 20 years had me slippin on feels.

After that I got angry about the whole situation because, what can we do?

any links?

very good documentary. i liked the vendor interviews; wonder who they were on SR.

the VJ as the main DPR theory is what i've been thinking. at one point he gives "cimon" server access, and was letting him do a lot of heavy lifting for SR; so it's not outside the realm of possibility that the individual was conducing business as DPR.

however, as far as the journal being planted on his laptop; let's remember the whole force/DEA debacle. where force was trying to intimidate DPR by calling him the initials "AA," some other libertarian guy on the internets. DPR cataloged all of that in his journal saying shit like "i'm being blackmailed," and finally "guy who says he has my i.d is bogus." the timeline matches up, and thankfully we can verify that through the fuck-ups of force and the bungled baltimore investigation.

to me that sort of validates the journal as, at the very least, being real. as for it being planted on his laptop...i don't know. that seems like a stretch to me. what'd VJ do, sneak into the states, find ross, plugin a USB and drag & drop journal.txt to his file directory? did he ssh into his ubuntu box and scp jorunal.txt?

i'm definitely of the mindset that more than 1 person was using the DPR moniker though.

Thankfully the hits he took out on people failed and his intended victims are still alive.

The only people who will get emotional over this doc are faggot scrawny white boys who are too scared to cop in real life, so they idolize some dork who looks like them and pretend he didnt try to get someone killed. Y'all pathetic drug addict little white boys will learn the drug game isn't for you. Ross tried to be a gansgter and failed, and you dorks live vicariously through him
