Empty Box Received

I asked this in other subs, but thought I'd ask here too since you might have more experience with deliveries - even though this was not an order through darknet. I also searched for similar posts and although I found several people receiving empty packages, the general consensus was a scam. I don't think this was a scam since it was sent from a trusted source.

A friend of mine had a shipment of goods mailed to her priority mail (domestic) on the 1st. It was all in a food saver bag and vacuumed sealed. It was due to arrive on the 4th. It arrived on time and there were no notices or anything strange with the tracking, which was checked after the package was received/delivered.

However, when she opened the box, it was empty except for a few paper towels that were used as packing. Not sure how worried they should be. There was a piece of tape over the flap with the glue that is used to close the box. But it was regular clear box tape, not USPS tape or any tape with writing/logos on it (if that even matters). There were no markings or anything else suspicious on or inside the box.

My question is if they seized the contents, why would they deliver the box? I would think that they wouldn't deliver just an empty box if there was a problem or plans for a controlled delivery, and I don't think it would be delivered on time either. I would also expect some kind of notice that the contents were seized, but maybe this will come in the next days/weeks? She is pretty certain that the sender did not rip her off and thinks maybe the box opened and the contents fell out. Not sure what would happen if this was the case either.

Anyone have something like this happen? Where they received an empty box from a trusted source but no notices of seizure/involvement from LE or usps? Any ideas on what possible impact the receiver should expect?

Vendor either intentionally or accidentally didn't include product, or you haven't yet found said product.

There was no seizure, the postal service will not discretely open package, remove illicit items, neatly re-vacuum seal, and deliver an empty box. Your friend (SWIY?) needs to contact the vendor for clarification.

And there will be no ramifications if you are caught in possession of an empty parcel otherwise.

My guess would be a postal worker jacked it and sent the box on to make it match up with the tracking/delivery of the package, maybe to take some heat off of them in the event she started asking questions (not that the USPS cares about your questions).

That probably happened because either it did get opened up by sender error/scam or something else during the delivery process, but unfortunately the guy present at time of opening seems to have been a pothead (likely)?

I can't think of any reason why they would send you an empty pack, would be really worthless for a CD unless they had some great pre-existing evidence on you. Probably just got screwed by a worker somehwere down the line.

If I were a vendor and I wanted to be a total dick, Id send an empty box once in a while and be like "oh...I think someone at the PO stole it....I'll give you a 50% reship"

Dick move and a waste of time but offering the reship would take suspicion off the vendor.....even though he was the original dick doing the dickening in the first place

I'd say most likely vendor forgot to pack it. Easy to happen when he/she's got a lot of orders.

Contact the vendor first. We are human too and can occasionally make mistakes. I would not immediately assume seizure or maliciousness. Shit happens sometimes. Hope you get this rectified!

This happened to me today. I'm expecting a couple orders and a package arrived today with packing material and an empty envelope inside but nothing else. I think I got scammed.

maybe the product is hidden in the cardboard of the box

Your friend maybe told the wrong person who swooped in and stole it and then re-taped it... Just a guess and I didn't see it posted yet but you should ask if there's anyone at all that could've known.
