I'm not sure that the VPN isn't counter-productive, but I think this will work. The page formating for alphabay may cause it to look a bit screwed-up.
Orbot +orweb may prove to be easier for LE to de-anonymize, but you're nor RUNNING alphabay on it, you're just shopping. Plus, they're concentrating on PCs and cracking Tor. Orbot would probably confuse the hell out of them.
I think it will work. Get the phone unlocked to any network, then use a pre-paid SIM. There are also location spoofers available from the google play store which put your phone in a different part of the world even if GPS is enabled.
I knew somebody who had an iphone once. It was awful. You had to register a credit card before you could download free apps. Apple act like they still own it and are just lending it to you, if you are a good girl. They force OS updates onto it, and you can't swap the battery! And Apple hate bitcoin so there are no bitcoin wallet apps (there is currently a fake one).
The only way to know for sure if it works is to try it. It will be either more secure or less secure, but a man in the middle attack on your alphabay session is unlikely anyway. The cops might be able to work out the rough locality of your neighbourhood, but if your door comes crashing in, just get your mobile phone slightly wet with coffee, and it will be fucked. Or throw it into the next street. Or just keep it, because orfox doesn't store your browsing history.
PGP will be a problem. Use quickforget notes or surespot, or even unencrypted plain text like a real man. Don't be scared of the PGP POPSEC boys who are about to tell us off. There opinion doesn't matter. they're cowards messing around with 20 years old consumer level encryption software. Like a James Bond that's scared of his postman.

I am also curious about what is considered safe to buy using Android.
Ehhhhhhh

Idk too much about CyanogenMod but off the top of my head I'd guess that you bought that phone with your real ID and have a data plan that connects to your real identity?
Let's add in location services in case packs start getting intercepted and the ever present threat of VPN leaks.
Not too sure how you'd configure your phone to be completely sure that you'd be okay even if you were leaking.
In general I think the idea of not using a phone is frowned upon but I'm actually kinda curious as to the specifics as well.
