As I understand it thus far, unless coins are on an exchange (such as coinbase) they are untraceable. If transactions are attached to an online exchange, IP address could be vulnerable.

There was an attack described in detail here: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1405.7418.pdf (PDF Warning) Never assume you are 100% anonymous with anything, Bitcoin has a public ledger, its far from ideal for keeping things a complete secret. Also consider the realistic probability of LE taking the time and resources to find you before you start losing sleep over such an attack being completed against you.

because the IP address broadcasts the transaction to the network
