Spend your XMR on things that cost BTC (XMR.to)

I just thought I would share my experience with using xmr.to.

If you haven't done it yet, switch your monero daemon to a hidden service. Follow these instructions.

Also, in TorBrowser, go to XMR.to and once there, click on your https-everywhere addon, and click 'add a rule for this site'. then 'show advanced', and switch

to

 ^https?://xmr\.to/

Then tell it to redirect to:

http://xmrto2bturnore26.onion/nojs/

(You can double check that link from XMR.to, nojs = NO Javascript)

Now that that's all settled, use the Tor Button, and get a 'New Tor Circuit for this Site'. It will automatically redirect to the hidden service page (with a new circuit) when you try to go to XMR.to. So you don't need to remember the onion address. (Although you should be bookmarking them anyway).

Now, you can use your monero to buy anything where BTC is accepted. You simply send your anonymous monero to xmr.to, and they send some anonymous bitcoins.

This is useful if you would like to buy things on the darknet, but Monero is not accepted. You can have untraceable BTC (or at least not traceable to you) sent to the market.

If you are a vendor and have been accepting Monero, but find it easier to cash out BTC, then you can have XMR.to send to your clear net BTC wallet, without it being linked to any darknet markets.

You're getting cleanly mixed BTC, and not even paying any fees. XMR.to takes no cut or fee, they give you a really good exchange rate on the XMR/BTC swap.

As a test run, I sold 2 ounces of weed, for $400 in XMR, according to the rates posted on all the markets and exchanges ($312.XMR at the time). I had that XMR exchanged via XMR.to and sent to CoinBase, where I was able to cashout the BTC for the full $400.

So, there were really no transaction fees or anything like that. And it all happened instantly.

The same instant I clicked "SEND" on my Monero GUI wallet, the Javascriptless XMR.to hidden service changed status, and notified me that my payment had been received, and that they had already sent the BTC payment. I even used to SLOW Monero Transaction Fee (.25x), and 5 on the ring.

They sent it with 18 sat/byte, and the transaction was confirmed within minutes. 2 confirmations in no time.

Everything was picked up by CoinBase without a problem, and I got full value from my weed sale.

I was very impressed the the whole experienced, and thought enough about it to come tell people here. I had never even heard of XMR.to until today when I went to /r/monero to check the sidebar for the accurate links for the Monero downloads.

This is a very simple way for people to pay for basically anything, anonymously, using monero. This is also a really easy way to let your customers shop with Monero, even if you only wish to accept BTC.

For instance, if you had an OpenBazaar store, then you can make a BTC store, but all your customers can shop with XMR, without having to use ShapeShit.io.

The https everywhere stuff is just to make sure that if you try to go to XMR.to (http or https version), it will automatically go to the hidden service instead, so you don't have to send any transaction info over the clear net, or through an exit node.

Same basic idea with using the hidden service for your monero daemon.

Very untraceable transactions.
