A man faces multiple drug-related charges after a lengthy police investigation into illicit drug dealing over the so-called "dark web".

The 43-year-old was arrested after officers from the Australian Federal Police and NSW Police swooped on two properties in Sydney's inner west on Thursday morning.

'Dark web drug dealer' arrested A man has been arrested and charged in Tempe this morning, following an investigation into illicit drug dealing on the so-called 'dark web'.

Officers from Strike Force Collette searched the properties at Wolli Creek and Tempe at 8am where they seized cocaine, MDMA, silocybin (magic mushrooms), more than $12,000 cash, drug equipment and packaging.

During the search warrant, the officers also found laptops with sophisticated hardware and software encryption.

Tempe man charged for selling drugs on the dark web. Drugs, computers and $12,000 cash seized.

The man was arrested at the Tempe home and taken to Newtown police station where he was charged with eight counts of drug supply, dealing with the proceeds of crime and supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis.

Police will allege the man was taking orders for illegal drugs online and supplying them via post. The operation has allegedly been running for at least two years.

"The internet allows drug suppliers to engage with users from the comfort of their own homes or anywhere they are on their mobiles," Detective Superintendent Cooke said.

"This criminal enterprise presents a unique challenge for law enforcement, but we too are evolving and adapting our tactics to infiltrate these spaces and detect drug transactions."

Federal police national manager of specialist operations Simon Walsh said the joint investigation produced a good result.

"The effective working relationship between the AFP and NSW Police has led to a highly successful outcome and it is important Australian law enforcement agencies continue to work together to combat illicit drug supply," Dr Walsh said.

The man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Newtown Local Court on Friday.
