Thanks slowpoke.

Everybody says that AG frequently has sporadic downtime (albeit not to the same extent as we've seen the past couple of days) and this has always been the case. I've been on Agora for 7-8 months and I can honestly say I've never had an issue getting on before this particular clusterfuck

Finally someone posted this.

tl;dr - Our unique security procedures > Availability. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

look at the date of the article lol

Read this a while ago and it made me wonder what security measures might their security protocols include?

Edit: Forgot I had this tabbed. For anyone who hasn't read it yet, goes through many of the security aspects of the TOR network and hidden services. More towards buyers and vendors, but still illuminating. Old but gold:

Agora:
"Keep in mind that we are one of the few markets that haven’t been hacked in any way ever since the very start, and we haven’t lost a single one of your bitcoins."

This is not entirely true. Agora suffered a bug that allowed double withdrawals a year ago during heavy traffic.

A post by /u/agora_voice on 2014-03-06:
"In the purposes of full transparency we can confirm that the service could indeed at rare occasions send out multiple payments when under unanticipated heavy load. This bug could not be purposefully exploited by any adversaries. The losses from this are basically negligible and partly because of that went undetected. Nevertheless, we deem this bug as severe and immediate measures were taken to remake the system to handle this properly."

"At this time we don't see any evidence of any other successful "hacks" on us, unless you count the DoS as a "hack"."

That sounds like a load of shit. Can it really be down that often due to "security"...
