Is it safe to use a University WiFi(with sign in linked to me) with ubuntu, tails, and tor for the DNMs?

If they have a guest mode (usually for 15 minutes) - go for it. If not, then no.

Use a VPN at the least, or better yet, do it somewhere else.
I wouldn't do it.

I don't know why you would use ubuntu and tails, but I would use a guest network if I could. The fact that you have to sign in means they will know that you as an individual are using tor. Can the school do anything with that information? Probably not, but if something were to get seized it probably wouldn't help your case.

Wouldn't be surprised if your university blocks TOR. Never do this on their network. Every major university has a networking and security team that are able to trace you down. If you establish a TOR connection they will know you did it. I haven't looked at the details of what information, if any, is sent in the clear on the TOR network but they will still know you connected to TOR. A VPN will hide all your traffic, always use a VPN. Don't ever risk your education.

From personal experience trying to access tor through your school's wifi is a bad idea.

I would have to say its probably not the worst place if you are ordering a carton of milk or something. You would be wise to listen to the treedruggy and use the quest network but even then that has some faults as most universities are going to remember mac address or a certain amount of time. You could spoof your mac address and not worry as much then but if you must use a school at least run tor through the VPN that way the place of business can not see you using tor.

If you have other public WiFi options nearby, use those instead. Most colleges have bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. around them that offer WiFi (since they know it's important to the student customers). It's best not to do anything linked to your real-life identity (such as signing into your college WiFi) with your Tails laptop.
if it's linked to you, why are you even asking this question? Go use some free public wifi that ISN'T linked to you
