On using a fake name for deliveries

Vice Article

Comments

It's pretty much agreed upon that using a fake name is a bad idea because it arouses suspicion from the person delivering it, unless that name has been taking mail for a long time at the same location. However, the Vice article states that it's more difficult for LE to build a case if a fake name is used.

The commenters on the article say that it's mostly better to use a real name because with a fake name:

Your package might not get delivered if the name doesn't exist and it could raise flags and make the package more suspicious. You won't be able to pick it up if left at post office.

This may be true, but I would much rather get a package confiscated and not get convicted of anything instead of making it easier for LE to convict me of something.

I don't care if a package "arouses suspicion" if it means I'm making it much harder for the cops.

What do you guys think? What's the best route to avoid a conviction?

In just the past week the Grand Wizard has sent Viagra to Buff Johnson, Mi Wang and Dick Stiffy.

Edit: those names are edited to protect the smart-asses. But we do get a surprising number of penis puns with our boner bean orders. And amusing as they may be, they definitely increase your chances of getting your pack lost in transit for very little reason. It's not like 10 Cialis are going to garner you a visit from a SWAT team screaming "COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS AND EVERYTHING ELSE UP..." (sorry, couldn't resist).

I always get mail for people that no longer live at my residence, people i dont even know. I use there names because the mailman is always delivering junk mail and bills in collections to my house. Just a suggestion.

I never really thought that using a fake name helps much as far as plausible deniability goes. "I never ordered anything" should work just as well with your real name because you figure that if someone wanted to set you up they'd probably learn your name. Also my mail person knows me personally because I live in a pretty tight-knit community so she would probably at least ask me about it or start an investigation. The latter would be way too much work and I really don't think the actual postal workers on the ground give a shit, so I'd probably be fine it'd just be something I'd have to explain.

Using a fake name doesn't help in the slightest in stopping you from being prosecuted, it just makes it harder for yourself to pick up if you miss delivery.

Police aren't stupid, respect your enemy.

But instead of getting a bargain bag of Dutch MDMA delivered by the postman, you get a visit from the police.

Domestic.....

2 words...

Plausible deniability.

Using a fake name allows you to say "no, they don't live here" when you suspect a CD. Using your real name to order drugs is fucking stupid as hell.

I feel like using a fake name is about as effective at preventing arrest as going into "incognito mode" is at hiding your freaky porn habits. The pack has just as much chance of getting found, and no police force would ever decide to halt an investigation based on the name not matching that of the home owner. All they have to do is deliver the pack and monitor you for a bit to see what you do with it. The defense of "I wasn't expecting this" holds just as much strength regardless of the name on it.

Far better than using a fake name - practice proper OPSEC so you do not leave a digital trail, keep a clean home, be cautious of your activities after receiving the pack, be knowledgeable of your rights and the laws of your country, keep your mouth shut when talking to LE, and memorize these lines...

"Am I being detained or arrested?"

"I am exercising my right to remain silent."

"I would like my lawyer to be present."
