My question didn't get much response on /r/darknetmarketnoobs so I figured I'd ask here: Concerning anonymity in purchasing Bitcoins

Every exchange I go to asks for both a phone number for verification and a bank account. Are there any methods out there that would allow someone to stay anonymous (no phone number) and buy bitcoins via a pre-paid card depositing directly into a Bitcoin wallet?

Why bother with a pre-paid card? Find a LBC vendor that does bank deposits and go with that.

localbitcoins.com is the way to go. Pay for BTC in cash, no ID required.

I've been using localbitcoins lately too. I do like coinbase also because it's cheaper but I now have a windows 8 phone and coinbase requires android or ios. Anywho, I'm a small time buyer so I really don't think the feds would bother to go after me. If they did, I'd figure they'd try to dox my wallet which has my legit information and now I'm wondering if this is a huge mistake and should I create a throwaway account?

btc-e doesn't do ID verification.

But you're still probably better off using localbitcoins or a bitcoin ATM.
