is opium just not a thing anymore?

id imagine the current opiate epidemic sweeping the states would result in some what of an opium following on the DNM. whats the deal? are people just more interested in harder stuff like heroine and pain killers?

10 years ago you would run into someone with it once in awhile but it seems to have been completely eradicated. just curios is all.

I've always wanted to get some opiated hash, I think it's just a lot more profitable to cook it into H.

where do you think all the heroin comes from?

[5 Points] 666fun:

Opium has been a rarity in the states for decades. Traffickers risk essentially the same penalty for a given weight of opium as they do for more refined substances, the margin in tiny in comparison. If you go through history It's partially why H became a thing in the first place.

Isn't opium easy to make?

[1 Points] trynakick:

As someone who has grown my own poppies to turn into opium (not worth it without a farm), I'd guess it has to do at least somewhat with cost-per-unit of weight/dose.

If I'm shipping something illegally from Afghanistan to France (for example) I'm getting much more bang for my buck shipping H vs anything else.

Honestly if you want to get a good opiate high you have to smoke a good bit and good opium is hard to find so it's over priced.

Funny you say 10 years because I know a guy that grows afghani sourced poppies out of the same continuously growing bag of seeds for at least a decade. He only grows personal use in a suburban backyard. No problems ever. He used to buy the poppies from clearnet sites back in the oughts.

He loves the tea and doesn't synthesize anything at all.

I was curious and eventually grew a big enough sack to try it myself. I like opiates but have never gone too overboard or tried H but the enticing nature of trying opium from its original fuckin source got the best of me.

He made me some tea once a few years ago and with no tolerance and I was fucked up for at least 9 hours and vomited for about a solid hour. The feeling was a very deep, drowzy almost psychadelic opiate high. I

didn't feel as if I was nodding out but it begain as the feeling of a pit in my stomach which evolved into a very sedating, calm, and exremly euphoric body high... until the vomiting came about. After that it wasn't very enjoyable.

Pharma oxy and norcos are 1000x more enjoyable in smaller recreational doses.

Glad I tried it but I'll never put my stomach through that again. 6/10

It's profit and logistics. Heroin is far more valuable than opium and it's about 100x smaller per dose.

My friend in India who serves user amounts of recreational drugs including opium says it's even becoming hard for him to get. It was a traditional drug used by allot of everyday people for stuff like teething babies but the government has been enforcing what we're once non existent laws more tightly. Smuggling there is a ten year sentence so that occupation relied on the ability to bribe various police in case of detection which has become more of a hit or miss prospect of late. Less corruption I guess. My friend says his country adopted drug laws due to pressure from the U.S. and so he finds it ironic that what was once tolerated is now enforced with more draconian measures than the U.S. even as it struggles with its own opioid epidemic.

Sometimes I'll see a rare latex opium listing on one of the markets, get nostalgic, and think of ordering. But I've never been able to convince myself it wasn't going to just be some sort of incense + fent.
