Italics are mine (the theme fucks up any bold text in quotes)
An Oglesby man is being held on $1 million bond following a raid that yielded a variety of suspected drugs -- including what could be a La Salle County record for ecstasy.
Jeremy L. Brolley, 20, of 2584 E. 450th Road, Oglesby was charged at 12:52 p.m. Thursday in his residence with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (MDMA, known by the street name ecstasy), after he allegedly took receipt of a package of contraband and with county and federal investigators monitoring the shipment.
In a press release issued Friday, and later re-issued with corrections, the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team said the Department of Homeland Security had intercepted the suspect package and then reached out to local police and prosecutors to get a search warrant and assist in the resulting bust.
This morning, the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office confirmed the since-corrected quantity seized: About 324 grams (nearly 11½ ounces) of a substance containing MDMA.
La Salle County prosecutors said today that's believed to be a county-record seizure of ecstasy; but historical records were not immediately available to confirm that.
Brolley was brought into holiday court Saturday and ordered held on $1 million bond. He needs to post $100,000 cash to be released from La Salle County Jail.
His charge is in fact a Class 1 felony but with an elevated sentencing range of 6-30 years in prison. A judicial assignment and court dates were pending as of press time today.
Prosecutors said they anticipate the ecstasy charge would be the only felony count filed against Brolley, as police seized lesser quantities of purported cannabis, cannabis wax, LSD and drug paraphernalia.
Brolley's case is likely to stay in La Salle County. Though Homeland Security intercepted the package and the U.S. Postal Service assisted in the controlled delivery, prosecutors said initial feedback from the Feds indicated Brolley's case was to be prosecuted locally and that Brolley would not be remanded to Chicago for prosecution in U.S. District Court.
Wow, $1,000,000 bond for 300g's of MDMA? That makes me think twice when ordering 500g's from SB
