Ross Ulbricht admits he created Silk Road, but says he's not Dread Pirate Roberts

Link: Ross Ulbricht admits he created Silk Road

The story:

For the first time, Ross Ulbricht has admitted that he invented the Silk Road.

Ulbricht's defense, which has pleaded not guilty to seven felony charges, admitted that he came up with the idea as "an economic experiment" beginning in 2009.

According to Ulbricht's defense attorney, however, he gave the site up just months after it launched in 2011 and was not ultimately responsible for growing it into the largest illegal drug market to ever exist on the Internet.

Instead, Ulbricht was allegedly the scapegoat for Silk Road's real masterminds.

It's actually not bad. He can't just LIE and deny creating it because the evidence in that regard is too damning. The e-mail addy, the forum posts, frosty, all that shit. They can't lie about that and expect to be believed with anything else. More burden of proof will lie on proving he's DPR.

It's a smart angle to take, in fact.

He has the top terrorism defense lawyer available.. & I'm sure he's a taaaaad bit smarter than us on /r/darknetmarkets

This is all gonna look so backwards and stupid in 40 years when recreational drug use is decriminalized and sweet little 70 year old grey haired Ross is released from prison.

[17 Points] doubledoseopimpin:

I think its a smart way to go. Blake admitted to being DPR already.

[10 Points] yessimato:

Not that it really needed it, but this also confirms Cirrus was the undercover.

But...Ross..Ross..ily, Ross?

[7 Points] Vasyrr:

That's the defense he's going for??? Oh my.

He's hosed then.

The defense was a hell of a lot better than I had thought it would've been. I believe Ross now has a fighting chance, before he was fucked. Literally fucked. Like he would have gotten ass rammed for 20 years. I'm really glad that he admitted to creating the silk road though, but he was logged onto his mastermind page at the time of the arrest. And that's probably where most of the prosecutions hopes are. But his lawyer combated that with well he was duped into rejoining Silk Road lol. Duped.

[5 Points] ShulginsCat:

While this may be the best possible defense for his situation, they still have to explain why he was found handling support tickets on SR when he got arrested:

EDIT: I missed the part where his lawyer claims he was duped into rejoining the SR team. Sorry

what if all this is actually true?

[2 Points] presari0:

Uhm yeah.. This sounds bad for Ross

[3 Points] blorgbots:

My gut says this is a bad idea, but I don't really value my legal opinion over that of an actual lawyer.

There is a reason that's the defense that is picked (probably because the only evidence that's been shown directly indicting him has involved him asking around on other forums about creating the site), and I have a feeling it's gonna end up being the best defense.

[3 Points] LandShark805:

Methinks there is evidence to prove he is DPR but for the government to demonstrate such; they'll have to spend some late nights at the photocopier to clean up the warrants they should have had. Excellent defense.

I knew it. I knew it all along.

Every single person involved had more than one account.
