Erasing info from SSD?

As some of you may be aware, there is a problem at the minute with packs from Canada to UK, specifically tracked packs. I've had a pack stuck at Heathrow since 27th. The house is tidy but when I first started buying (around 7-8 month ago) my OPSEC wasn't as good as it currently is. So I'm afraid there might be some evidence on my laptop. I have heard of DBAN but found that it is useless on SSD's. Could anybody tell me the best way to wipe/erase sensitive info?

Thanks everyone

TL;DR - PoPo may be coming, how do you clear SSD effectively?

get a new ssd and do a fresh install of os. get rid of old drive.

Drill press, 3-4 holes in the drives. Then plug them back into your computer so if they do raid you at least you will have something to laugh about when they try to power on you machine with those drives in it.

Hi Myweedone, This is something I have been thinking about. SSD is a real problem for deleting data because bitbleach, ccleaner dban and other data wipers will not work, and will only cause damage. In SSD data is assigned to blocks and moves continually. It's not in a specific location so you can't target it easily. You can in fact delete data from SSD, but it may take a while for it to be overwritten and it may not be securely deleted.

So basically deleting the data is probably approaching this the wrong way. There is likely no way to be certain that your sensitive data is deleted. I suggest you use full disk encryption as an alternative and make sure you ssd is not in your house when you get a visit. Full disk encryption is the only sure way to protect your data in this situation (other than destroying the disk, which is dumb, wasteful and may constitute a criminal offense). Consider using truecrypt to encyrpt all data on your computer as it allows for hidden partitions which will give you plausible deniability and will allow you to decrypt "useless" info if forced to (by law you must decrypt when asked to, but you don't have to acknowledge the existence of a hidden volume.)

Parted Magic has an SSD wipe function, that's my recommendation.

i'm afraid this is impossible because of NSA (Destroying your hard drive is the only way to stop this super-advanced malware)

But if you want only wipe evidence then do in shell: sudo rm -rf /media/amnesia/[sensitive hardisk ID]/* &

After that unplug and throw hardisc into lake or river and buy new one like burner phone. (also do not forget to get rid of forensic clues like fingerprints or eyebrows)
