Alphabay's removal from the superlist

There is absolutely no valid reason alphabay's links should be missing from the superlist. To remove them over a vulnerability (WHICH ONLY AFFECTED RETARDS WHO WERE USING CLEARTEXT WHEN DISCUSSING INTERNATIONAL DRUG TRACKING USING PRIVATE MESSAGES ON A SITE RAN BY RUSSIAN CARDERS ) is unfair. The vulnerability itself was fixed in 5 hours.

Alphabay works. Everybody knows it works. My dog knows it works. Software vulnerabilities happen. Professional software developers fuck up all of it the time, even when making commercial software which handles millions of dollars. Alphabay, so far, has outlasted and outperformed the competition. There is a reason it is the most widely used marketplace. Attempting to prevent people from using a functional marketplace REEKS of either personal greed or law enforcement infiltration. The motive is extremely obvious. PLUS, the leak only affects those who were communicating in cleartext through market messages. This shouldn't even be problem.

What we can take away from this is as follows: NEVER TALK ABOUT IMPORTANT SHIT IN CLEAR TEXT YOU FUCKING RETARDS

tl;dr

  1. ALWAYS ENCRYPT YOUR COMMUNICATIONS
  2. ALPHABAY WORKS (SO FAR)
  3. The Feds/Greedy Reddit Admins want you to use something else
  4. Be Smart

I find it hypocritical that alphabay was removed off the list no questions asked, yet oasis and nucleus lasted months in the list without any hurry on removing them.

[48 Points] alphabaysupport:

The mods prefer people to use phishing links. Because using official links is sooooo mainstream.

Yes I agree AB deserves to really be at the top of the superlist, with some disclaimers of claims, but I think it really deserves top spot.

I have never once had a problem there, and don't really see the PM leak as an issue as I've always used PGP, I just hope no other leaks of info pop up.

This wombat2combat guy shouldn't be a mod in my opinion

[7 Points] AgoraRises:

Agreed it was obvious to me by the top comments in the sticky thread that the majority of users want the links to remain on the superlist but of course the mods ignored community consensus.

[6 Points] dnmdrugsuk:

Glad to see the links restored. I was just going to the superlist, then to alphabay sub and then using their links. You were just putting an extra hurdle in our way.

I have no concerns about the messages thing. OPSEC 101 encrypt anything that you wouldn't want someone else seeing. It seems to have been resolved quickly. If there was another market we could just switch to then we probably would, but there isn't.

The thread on the removal was painful reading wombat2combat seemed to start the debate in good faith but had no desire to take on board anything anyone was saying, it was just "I'm right, you're wrong, you're not listening properly"

I'm glad they're back, but faith in the moderation team is easy to loose and hard to regain

The thread on their removal

The superlist has always been tricky to have because no one agrees completely with how to do it or what markets belong and which ones to keep off.

As you surely noticed there are people that believe it doesn't belong just as much as you believe it does.

At this point there are ideas being discussed about how to proceed with the superlist. It is a valuable resource and we have come to a point where it needs to evolve.

The mods are working behind the scenes to develop a superlist that includes all the information people need to make an informed decision.

I agree that the AB's link should remain up but with multiple warnings(like it has right now) but just cause something "works" doesnt mean you should use it or its even good, this idea is especially invalid for using darknetmarkets. Silkroad "worked" too up until the feds shut it down and raided everyone, would you argue that because it worked, there was never a problem with silkroad? Security/privacy is the main focus of dnm marketplaces, if you actually use dnms, I hope you know that. One of the main reasons the mods are against AB, is because when the user submitted there problem, he submitted 3 support tickets directly to AB, warning them about the issues, and nothing, NOTHING was done about it. He had to come here to get any attention. If AB actually took there security seriously, what I just explained wouldn't of happened.

[5 Points] theevoinsider:

didnt Bruce Campbell get publicly de-modded for not leaving AB alone, seems that Wombat2Combat has taken over his mantle, except rather than trying to expose vulnerabilities (a la BC) hes instead going down the nanny state route trying to tell everyone what to do, what a turd burgular

[4 Points] DooshNozzzle:

I absolutely agree 100%.

This is stupid and NEEDS to be fixed

The forum link is still there, anyone with a brain would just remove the /forum/ part of the URL.

Hansa had the SAME ISSUE!

[1 Points] None:

So far, AB has been the best market for me. Disputes are quickly and fairly resolved, and the market is getting bigger and better.

[1 Points] None:

It will be interesting to see what, if any, effect this action would have on Alphabay's continued operations. My own belief, based on Dream still going strong, is hardly any.

The only way Alphabay could compromise your security is if you are RETARDED and don't know when/how/why to encrypt sensitive information in which case you don't belong here anyway!

[1 Points] earthmoonsun:

What kind of drugs is your dog ordering on AB?

I take it this is a very paranoid sub I take it?

[1 Points] DruggieKitten:

Yeah, this is retarded. I've made a lot of money on alphabay and this removal is costing vendors a lot of money.

I really thought about signing up on a more "legitimate" market, but they all seem sucky in comparison.

[1 Points] BigMoosels:

Because Ruskies

[0 Points] SunnyHours89:

I totally agree that as a means of Harm Reduction, we should still keep the links to Alphabay in the superlist.

Yes there was a vulnerability and it should be noted as a Warning, specifying exactly what the issue was just like is being done for Hansa.

After all, as it's been said, if your communications were encrypted, it's business as usual...

Alphabay hasn't stopped withdrawals, wasn't taken over by LE (as far as we know) and there's no sign of an exit-scam or phishing/scamming that would warrant the links to be removed altogether.

Even BtcFog is still in the list and it's been mentioned a few dozens of times that they selectively scam.

To be totally honest, it looks extremely fishy that the links were removed so quickly with almost no debate whatsoever taking place to determine what should be done.

In any case, never in the history of this sub has there been links removed that quickly without any real reasons or concerns warranting it's removal or a more than obvious outcry from the users of the sub for it's removal.

Had it been any other point in time/any other market you can be sure that it would take a fucking decade of scam reports for it to be removed from the "non-super Superlist"...

[0 Points] entrippy11:

AB (and others) should just make all notes "public". That removes the burden from them to ensure privacy and places it where it belongs: with the user and vendor. It's their job to encrypt their communications until better tech is here.

[0 Points] PM_me_BTC_or_ETH:

Put it back with a warning or something next to it.

You know...like everyone else wants.

You're here to moderate, not dictate.

Mods are like jagex from Runescape making it nooby-friendly so the little babies don't get hurt you are not making the game safer you are making it worse lik omg
