[Meta] Why are we still using Silk Road when other markets exist which have more active staff, are more stable, are a lot faster, and that have so much potential?

Such as Agora, the newly opened Utopia market, etc.

I don't get it; I guess at the end of the day SR is just a brand that people love sticking with.

But (more than) half the support team is hardly ever seen; Defcon is doing who-knows, and updates are seemingly always delayed or held back to a later date.

I personally don't have a problem moving to other markets, provided they have some basic features which would be expected of any market (escrow, messaging, etc.), and that some good vendors are already established there (like is the case on Agora/Utopia).

Any thoughts on this?

Brand recognition, network effect, ease of use, resistance to change, and laziness.

This new iteration of SR will always be the largest market until something catastrophic happens to it. Its like trying to dethrone Facebook at this point - not gonna happen.

No one knows how many buyers are on any particular market but if you want to rank sites by listings here we go:

SR2: 12719

Pandora: 6130

Agora: 2300

Utopia: 1383

Bluesky:685

TMP: 206

Why Agora/Utopia and not TMP? What features do they provide that are new?

I use several markets. SR2.0 included. The only reason I go to a market is because the vendor I wish to buy form is there. Since I use the same vendors and they have been selling on the darknet for some time now, it doesnt make a difference I use.

Edit : That being said, I do my research before using a market ( read the forums mostly ). Anyways the vendior tries the market way before I do and I trust their judgement. They are at most risk of lost after all.

As a Australian SR2.0 seems to be the only one with Aus to Aus listing at the moment

Let's not forget about what happened when the SR community moved to SMP

Have you ever wondered why Silk Road hasn't been hacked yet, despite numerous attempts, despite our massive notoriety, despite everything the government and malicious users can throw at us?

It's because of our devs. It's because of our staff.

You cannot fathom, you cannot comprehend, you cannot even imagine the amount of effort that it takes to keep this site up and running. To keep this site secure. To keep this site out of the hands of the government and anyone else who wishes to take its--and its user's--funds.

The amount of work is astronomical. The amount of time necessary to put into this site is beyond belief.

The NUMBER ONE priority is safety. How can you people not see that? Are you truly that ignorant? That downright stuipid?

I can't believe you have the nerve to insult Defcon--the entire staff, including DPR--like that. You fool.
