With all this talk about honeypots, this is my theory: GRAMS

I think GRAMS is the biggest honey pot of them all.

On markets communication is encrypted between you and your vendor so LE can't see much.

BUT.. if LE runs Grams they have the btc trail from every coinbase/circle account to a DNM. I think that is a bigger play.

Thoughts?

tumblers always seemed shady to me.

sending your coins to a tumbler would be pretty easy for LE to figure out what you are planning on doing. Its pretty much tagging yourself as up to something.

It might be paranoia but thats everones own choice to make I guess.

Anything is possible.

One or more markets could be run by LE. Nobody knows.

Heres an idea:

Something i cant wrap my head around is even if they could trace the transaction from your coinbase wallet to a DNM wallet with no tumbler, how can they link it back to you. Like maybe i bought those coins to trade to someone for world of warcraft gold, and that was the coin address he gave me.

Grams gave me 0.01 BTC to buy some soda, no joke.

If he's a honeypot, then thank you FBI for the free drinks. See how much good will a mere $3.75 can buy? 😊

Grams existed way before helix. I doubt LE had the plan to establish trust with a search engine that would help crime perpetration and making money with bungees54 ad (there was one), to then release a fake tumbler to have a higher chance of chasing criminals they previously helped (and make money since they're at it).

You're a day early, Tinfoil Hat Tuesday isn't until tomorrow, at least on my side of the date line.

Dude, its tinfoil hat TUESDAY not monday

I doubt it. Some of his remarks suggest he's a bit rash which would be uncharacteristic of LE. I have another much stronger reason, but I will not disclose it.

That said, I'm sure how strong his opsec is. Its entirely possible that LE could identify him then they could silently arrest him and assume control of the servers. I think this scenario is most likely.

Regardless, I don't think its wise to use helix. The biggest problem I have is he refuses to discuss how it works so there is no way to verify it is effective. Thus, one has trust their security in the hands of an anonymous stranger (sounds ridiculous doesn't it). Further, I'd like to add that one should not rely on a single centralized mixing service since that server is a single point of failure. Its best to use multiple mixers along with exchanges to obscure the trail.
