[PSA] SENATE REPUBLICANS JUST VOTED TO KILL INTERNET PRIVACY.

Great... make sure you encrypt all things!

On Thursday, the Senate voted along party lines, 50-48, to scrap those privacy rules, making it easier for broadband providers to share browsing history information about their customers.

Well there you have it, folks. Who's got that link I saw earlier that shows the votes of yay and nay? All Republicans except 2 (who chose not to cast their vote) voted to pass this gross invasion of privacy and overreach of government while all Democrats voted nay on the issue. So this should make it crystal clear to everybody which party is truly values the rights of the citizens. This is triple dipping. Monthly fee+Data overages+the sale of the data. The government is becoming more tyrannical by the day. But by the time people wake up and see it, It will be to late. Our forefather's are rolling in their graves right now.

companies have a "opt in, opt out option" and they have to inform customers exactly what data they sell, so at least you get a heads up. but if you use tor you shouldn't have that problem:)

This is only in the US right?

Germany had that implemented (Vorratsdatenspeicherung), but it didn't work, they didn't find more criminals. They are basically spying on every user of an ISP. This was found to be unconstitutional and the program was stopped. Austria copied this and of course ran into the same problems.

People just started using VPNs or Tor. Governments were too stupid to see that (Encryption!) coming.

Waste of time and money.

Although this harms the Internet as a whole, I'm glad I have a kind of mom and pop ISP based on Linux and a five star privacy rating from the EFF every year since 2012 or so.

We all knew this was coming... we fought long and hard against SOPA / PIPA and we won that battle... but there's a terrible new administration that doesn't know jack about governing, democracy or anything important to running a country like the USA... so this is just the first volly, be prepared for a whole shitstorm of things to come.
