Im traveling about 18 hours with an undesirable license plate.
Im going to be bringing a safe regardless for my belongings.
I know a search warrant is required for police to open any thing that needs a key, thats privacy 101.
However in case of the event which I get pulled over by a cop with a dog and it triggers for marijuana, even if they have a reason to search my car, they still need a search warrant to search my safe right?
I was thinking of keeping cid and shatter inside my safe, in a lock box, which i don't have a key too but can bend it in a way to make it open and close, then inside mail that is already addressed and ready to go.
My Next question is, if they get a warrant to search the safe, do you think that the warrant is for anything inside the safe including the lockbox which I have no key for, and mail(which I want/hope to assume requires another warrant.) Basically is a search warrant omni-encompassing?
Depends on the state, but they'll pry a safe open right on the side of the road if a dog triggers on it, regardless of warrant. A lot of this "cops can't do X" is mostly bullshit, cops have the right to do a lot more than you assume, and this includes getting into locked compartments if there's probable cause. Don't trust reddit when it comes to "hurt durr, mah rights". Most of these people haven't even been given a traffic ticket, much less been pulled over out of suspicion. If a cop knows there's drugs in the car, he's gonna find them, and there's nothing you can do about it. Your best bet is to vacuum pack the shit and wipe it down with acetone, then stash it really good.
