The market which gave attention to multi-sig (and a bit to PGP) is officially dead today. RIP TMP

The only market ever with MANDATORY and REAL (without having to send the coins to ANY exclusively-market-controlled wallet) multisig, and the FIRST to implement is still dead today, without signs of coming back.

This was the only way to go. Multisig is useless if it is fully controled by the market, as we need to trust their ethics and security anyway. That's why nobody uses it on Evo, because if I have to send the coins to the main wallet someone might steal them from there after all.

Also, multisig needs to be mandatory. Hackers have less reasons to attack if there are 0 coins on the market. The third party multisig implemented afterwards made third party multisig easy as traditional escrow.

Forced PGP also makes it hard if not impossible for LE to find out anyone there.

But, in the end, it all comes down to customer service. Multisig is useless if nobody replies me when I need my coins back. The market was theoretically perfect in the admin's mind, and he tried to put it in auto-mode. The market was not perfect, nor are human relations. We needed human suprevision and we didn't have it.

The Market Place was just a concept, awfully executed. The Market Place may die, but the concept will stay forever :).

I don't think you know what official means.

[6 Points] Insipid_Pedantry:

Official according to your speculation? I'm not saying it's coming back, but unless you have some inside information this is purely speculative and nothing more. Granted, the points you make about customer service are valid, but that doesn't necessarily mean TMP is done, it's had periods of downtime that exceeded this before.

Its a shame, i felt the most secure using it for sure. Hopefully someone will try the proper multisig idea again soon, i never got why so many people dont use multisig if we all aimed to do everything in the most secure way TMP might still be up today :/

Sad, but not surprising. I2P was too much for some people to configure. It'll catch on one day when TOR is long forgotten / compromised / etc

TMP has always been my favorite market. With all these hidden services going down you would think now would be the best time for it to take off. It has been around for a long time and was the safest market with the best interface. I can't wait for more i2p markets though.

SR2 having no escrow and being one of the largest markets while TMP is a total flop should just go to show any and all devs (not just DNM) that its all about the User Interface. sure you can offer people complicated security to keep them safe, but if its hard to use they are just going to look for that green camel.

I think it is funny that bitwasp has forced GPG encryption and only operates using real multsig transactions (no way to seize or steal bitcoins) and yet has a reputation for being insecure, meanwhile all other marketplaces ever, except for TMP, have had worse and far less secure systems.

Bitwasp might be hackable but not to the point where any messages could be read or any coins could be stolen.

What killed TMP:

And yeah bad timing + steep learning curve + shitty network = superior market failure.

Whatever, all these markets will be obsolete in a couple years when openbazaar gets worked out.
