Found my old flash drive with 28 bitcoins

Been looking for it for 2 years not and found it this morning when putting some clothes up.

I bought them at a little over 5 dollars I think.

Question is do I A: buy a lot of awesome drugs and resell

B: keep the coins and wait for more money?

C: cash them out at 100,000!!!!!!

I'm litterly shaking and I'm bout to quit my job lol, feel like I just won the lottery

Defiantly gonna sell 5 and treat myself to a nice vacation.

Idkk what to do tho I don't want coins to lose value, never had this much money in my possession, no where close to this much...

Any suggestions? Serious only please.

EDIT: So to clear some things up, I'm going to a university right now, last year of it, it's all paied off already. In my early 20s working at a clothing store for 12 an hour part time, that's why I considered quitting until I get out of college and have a career in computer engineering. I make most of my income from reselling products I got off dark web.

So what I ended up doing today Moved 14 btc onto new flash drive and kept 14 on original. Original one is in safe locked away for time being Untill I speak with someone who knows what would be the smartest thing to do. I split it in half because this shits like jepordy, I'm just spinning the wheel at this point if I don't convert to cash. NO one know what will happen with btc and I don't have but 300$ invested in all of this. Now I am going to sell 10, get roughly 40k and put that in a bank account for security. 4btc left for drugs which will probably be a few bigger purchases, or just some small ones as i need it. I'm already kinda big with my purchases so spending 6k on drugs isn't something out of the ordinary for me, it would be a free re-up and I get to keep all my profits. Not starting some new drug enterprise, just looking to build/add a little money to it.

Wasn't expecting all of this attention.

My mailbox is flooded with btc addresses and request for help or loans. The answer is a big NO.

Boof the drive

I bet you've never had 100,000 dollars inside your butthole. That's what I would do

[176 Points] ForLol_Serious:

Convert them into dogecoin

[117 Points] Ruskty:

depending on what job you got, but bro

its just 28 coins. what you do after 1 year!?

[103 Points] Silent395:

Tell no one. Get a financial advisor.

[61 Points] redditgrowthrow:

if you're in the USA you technically should report and pay capital gains tax. 100k isn't enough to quit your job unless you're 80. If I were you I would probably split it between a 40k down payment on a duplex to rent out, a buffer of about 10k in an emergency account, 30k stake in healthy local small business, 20k into securities trading, and probably also some drugs. Spend a grand or two to see a professional because this is not a one size fits all situation

Don't treat this as a temporary lifestyle increase; treat it as a way to create passive revenue streams so you permanently increase your yearly take home regardless of whatever it is you do. If you're lucky and shrewd you can keep rolling the excess back into the original investments and grow it even more. Good luck to you

[50 Points] None:

I'd cash them out all of them, there's no guarantee bitcoin will keep itself at this price forever. cash them out, maybe leave 1 BTC for danknet orders. have fun!

[42 Points] YPG-Got-Raqqa:

I would go post this at /r/personalfinance. I bought a house a few years ago with like $15k down for $125,000. Just thinking what I would do in that situation, I would buy a house. If you used half of that for a down payment on a $200,000 house your payments would be very reasonable and it would really give you a leg up in life. Hell you could get a cheaper house and basically have no payments.

[33 Points] Azby78:

Also dude, recently BTC split in two, so those 28 coins have a corresponding 28 coins in Bitcoin cash. They're not worth as much but still quite a lot. Will prob continue to rise in value as will BTC. Do not cash them all out just yet. Or maybe cash out your BTC or BCC. Do some reading into recent Bitcoin developments. Also, listen to financial advise in this thread. Holidays are fun but can turn 100k into a lot more if you know what you're doing :) happy for you!

[22 Points] 12aaa:

Damn! Imo: don't quit your job unless you truly hate it, and of you do quit, get another job with only a few hours a week. Just in case you blow everything you want some work history still there imo. If I were you I'd also post on /r/legaladvice and whatever that finance subreddit is and they'll tell you how you can live exceptionally comfortably while also receiving a steady income from investments. This will probably include cashing it out at this cost, but also post on /r/Bitcoin or a related sub on how to cash out with the maximum amount of money you can. This is only $115,000 man, don't quit ya job. Live comfortably, don't blow it, get advice from pros.

Expect a lot of begging too. Example: I'm currently in withdrawal and my first thought was "DAMN ASK THIS DUDE FOR CASH AND YOU'LL BE GOLDEN" but I'm not a cunt like that 😂 don't succumb to begging or strange investment offers. Be sensible fam. Good vibes.

[11 Points] None:

this guy is a fucking moron, read his post history. He will be dead or in prison or at the very least broke within 2 years. Such a waste.

[9 Points] AMPTEST:

So I think I figured out what I will do. Taking 10 out and saving the rest. I'm going to use 4, for darknet purchases( probably a few big purchases split up so I don't potentially lose all the money in one and do a few big flips) and use 6 to cash out have a little extra cash to put in the bank and keep my job (12 an hour lol) but this way I can finally get all my bills and car payments paied off without living check to check. And if my investments on the internet go good with wax/lsd I should quadruple that money.

Then putting 18 away! I'm sure the coins will drop eventually when the bubble burst. But it has always risen higher each time it drops. Just got to be Paitent. If I would have known one day my 2-300 dollar investment would be worth this much I would have lost the USB on purpose!

[7 Points] MagentaIsALie:

Sounds like you need a holiday!

A lot of people will tell you to cash out! A lot of people will tell you to hold bitcoins, or cryptocurrency X.

Never have all your eggs in one basket, especially if it's 100K worth of eggs and the basket is bitcoins.

Cash some out as savings. Don't just have savings in btc or any other crypto.

Even if bitcoin hits the moon and you loose out one some money what can you do with 1 billion you can't do with 750 million?

What can you do with 1 million you can't do with 750k?

On the other hand if bitcoin vanishes somehow you will be thankful you took 25k and moved it to fiats.

Doesn't have to be dollars even. Offshore accounts are kosher now up to at least 10K for 'mericans.

[6 Points] tyvmpicks:

Holy shit, grats!

Definitely treat yourself to something nice like a vacation and as other people have said, just keep it as the price is still rising. Don't take it out unless you need money but still keep the job because this isnt something that can supply you for the rest of your life.

Hey it's me ur cousin

[4 Points] _PrinterPam_:

If true, congratulations. That's like finding a long-forgotten 20 in a pair of jeans (score!)...only better.

So, here's my answer in all earnestness. I'm going to be pretty brief on the 'investment' potion of this because it's a really long topic and I'm not trying to get into a dissertation here. So, here we go:

EDIT: If you quit your job, all expenses (including bills, et. al.) must come out of your "fuck it" money. Consider instead using the time to find a job you'd be happier with. Quitting your job will erode your windfall so fucking fast, you have no idea. Also, with your play money, if you do splurge on drugs or something like that, DO NOT let it interfere with your job security. Party your ass off, but do it responsibly (which is something I recommend anyway).

[3 Points] elsimer:

Recommendation: cash out and sit down with a financial advisor to discuss what assets would be best for you to make the value of that money last and grow in value over the course of your life.

Since you bought so low and the meteoric rise of value for Bitcoin has leveled off and is now experiencing turbulence, I would cash out and put at least 20% in a savings account. You could put a down payment on a house and live your life frugally, but I think that would be a waste of value.

I would hold on to the cash and invest another 20% in conservative stocks. You could either use this as a reason to learn how to trade (starting with a few $100 until you get an understanding of it), or have a financial advisor invest your portfolio for you.

Sidenote: Make sure not to let your family know how much money you have. They can know that you have some extra, but one person making lots of windfall cash in a family often causes problems when people want some of it, so do not let them know how much you have.

[4 Points] AMPTEST:

JUST TO CLEAR SOME THINGS UP!

I'm only in my early 20s. Currently enrolled in a university, which has been paied off already.

My job is a standard 12 an hour job at a store selling clothes, part time at that. I wouldn't be giving up a career or the option for a great career in computer engineering after I finish school. That's why I was so quick to suggest quitting.

I'm putting Half of it away in a locked safe on the same flash drive. That way if something DOES happen to bitcoin price It's a 50:50 chance I will win or lose on the money I take out. For example if bitcoin plummets back to 1,000 or lower, I will still have most of the money (50-60g) it's worth today in a bank account aside from roughly 10g, which will fund my drug purchases/ pay off a few bills for a good while. If it goes back up I'll still have 14 coins sitting around collecting value.

I wasn't broke before this. And it was completely random.

I've talked to a few people and they agree that it's smart to do the 50/50 in case something does happen.

Not going to go out and buy Gucci and Prada and expensive chains. But will get a new pair of shoes and maybe some nice sunglasses I've been wanting.

Like it's been said I'm not even telling my parents about this shit!

[2 Points] infr4r3d:

Let that shit sit, if BTC goes up another $1000USD you'll be fucking glad you waited.

Investments are long game, treat yourself right and play accordingly.

Use half for a down payment on a house, even if you already have one. Not having to pay rent is awesome, having people pay you rent is even more awesome.

Think about this: $200,000 house, $50,000 down payment, 30 year mortgage on $150,000 is just $709 a month, charge $1,200/month easily, and you'll always have money

About 1-year ago I bet 250 ETH on Hillary Clinton winning the presidency. I thought it would be a guaranteed way to increase my ETH holdings by ~20%

I have had to work through a lot of depression since Trump won... I just can't help but think of how stupid I was to stake literally my entire investment in the digital currency space on one event...

I've worked through my depression, and I still hold about 6 ETH. But when I hear stories like yours, it warms my heart for some reason.

Congrats on your nest-egg and invest it well sir.

EDIT: spelling

[2 Points] 777throwmeaway777:

Speaking as someone with more than a few decades behind them, there are only two investments that have any real potential to increase wealth. That's real estate and owning a business. If you want to keep your money from getting eaten away by just normal cost of living increases then use a low or no load fund that is indexed to the DJIA. Everything else is bullshit. Running a Darknet business is profitable but you don't want to end up hanging yourself in a jail cell. (RIP)

[2 Points] Pixaritdidnthappen:

Hey OP just in case you weren't following bitcoin, you also now have 28 BCH because of the recent hard fork. You need to sweep your private keys into a BCH compatible wallet. DON'T MOVE YOUR COINS AGAIN until you do this. You may be able to retreive the keys for the ones you already moved depending on which wallet you kept them in. Hopefully you see this or are aware becuase we're talking about an extra $20-25k you can use. feel free to ask more questions or drop by r/bitcoin for help

you really should not quit your job for 26 BTC :D If you dont need them right now just le them where they are.

BTC gonna climb higher longterm

[1 Points] Silent395:

Don't quit your job. $100k is not a lot of money. Keep working and invest that money in a mutual fund at first and just let it accumulate interest. Maybe use some of it to start your own business. You can't just quit with $100k you will be out of money in a year.

[1 Points] octaw:

Hold them all until 2020. That's the next halving event. If you think Bitcoin is expensive now, wait until the general public realizes how scarce they actually are.

[1 Points] estryshak:

You don't have to sell all of them. 100k isn't life changing, but it can make your life much easier. I'd recommend selling enough to pay off any debt and get 3 - 6 months of expenses for an emergency fund. From there you could make a dnm purchase if you want or just hold the rest

[1 Points] midipoet:

Take 5 out and have your holiday/travel. Invest another 3 into Iconomi (I say Iconomi as it is like a portfolio of the top cryptos, run by a good team, and is currently undervalued).

Put the rest of the 20 into a cold storage wallet like Ledger and/or Trezor.

Have fun on your travels. Hit me up if you go to South America.

Enjoy!

[1 Points] SoldadoyProfeta:

Lucky guy!!! I would say hold on them till btc is worth at least 10 K :) But of course I would have some fun I would travel and spend on some good drugs ... Be safe bro and try to not to tell no one bc people gonna be jealous!

[1 Points] ElvinAndTwelve:

How far are you going to get on 100,000? It's not like that's enough money to quit your job at 25. What if you get sick and need health care/ambulance ride/ER visit? That $100,000 is gonna go pretty quick.

[1 Points] fromkentucky:

Cash out and immediately place into a retirement fund.

[1 Points] crustedchlorides:

Congrats to you!! Can't image your face when finding that usb stick! What a treasure, btc is a very unstable currency though. It can go from 1000$ to 5$ in seconds. Like other posters said, I'd cash out like 18-20 btc and leave the rest for dnm purchases and saving.

Good luck!

[1 Points] D0WN71M3:

I wouldn't spend it on vacation. Maybe just some coke to celebrate.

You're going to realize that 100K isn't as much money as you think it is. I would recommend that you NOT quit your job.

If I only had 100K and no job, I would still have a lot of anxiety about how I was going to pay my mortgage in a year.

[1 Points] Faladorable:

Don't use it. Take out money that you need to live, but keep the rest invested. If you made that much in 2 years imagine what it may be worth In 5 or 10 or 40.

[1 Points] vernazza:

Fiddle around with investments to other cryptos. NEO reached $50 while selling for a fifth that on Aug 1.

[1 Points] Ilivewithbastards:

Cash that bitch out buddy! Open a business!

[1 Points] 2happytimes2:

I would buy drugs. You can find a pot dealer in your area. Do so and sell them ounces for 220 (at that price they will sell like hot cakes). You can find tons of vendors who sell oz of cannabis for 100 bucks. You can double your money this way, tax free. Also, I would have the cannabis sent to them, and pay extra for a tracking number in case they try to pull a fast one. Or you could just sell yourself to friends and family and use there address.

OR

You could save them. There is an article on deepdotweb that has a quote from some finacial advisers who say that in 5-10 years BTC will be worth 500,000- 1,000,000 EACH..... That's when I would quit my job...

OR

Sell them on local bitcoin for cash.

You have a lot of options, I would pick the one with the best profit margins, but that's just me.

[1 Points] PHattygrilledcheese:

Cash out half.

[1 Points] rocketmantastic-:

Definitely get someone to help with the money, because keep in mind the TAX MAN will come for you about all of this new income.

[1 Points] DeathThrasher:

Keep your job and HODL!

[1 Points] 99999999999999999989:

OP here is what I would do. Save half of the coins on a hardware wallet. Trezor or Ledger. Buy one today, right now.

Take the rest and cash out. Pay the damn taxes on it and don' t complain. Then put what you've got left into several personal retirement accounts. You're probably under 30 years old. That amount of cash seeded into an account today will keep you living like a hog in the fathouse in another 30-40 years. Keep your day job secure in the knowledge that you'll never want for money when you get older. Don't ever and I mean ever even think about pulling any of that money prematurely. Not a fucking dime until you retire.

Yes this is a really boring suggestion. But it will look a LOT smarter as the years go by. If you want to celebrate then sure take 1 coin and have some fun. But don't be an idiot and do something that will get LE in your ass so they can make a grab for those coins.

You hit the fuking BTC jackpot, don't fuck it up.

You made a bunch of money off of virtually no investment, right? Cash the coins out, put it in a stable investment, let your money make money. Do you think people who stay wealthy blow it all? Nope. Don't get me wrong, have some fun with the money, but i would invest the majority of it

[1 Points] maywest44:

Yea, you really need professional financial advice but I wouldn't cash out more than half and let the other half ride ! That shit could be worth millions someday. You already wrote it off anyway, so don't blow it ! That's an awesome story though :D

[1 Points] Rideonem:

That is awesome. Im happy for you bro. If I was you I would go on localbitcoins and start making money buying and selling coins. You definitely have enough to make bank. I suggest selling in person. Get some regular customers and the sky is the limit.

[1 Points] whaleproject:

If I was you I'd sell them now and invest in something that isn't a lottery. It's lucky that BTC is so valuable these day when you found your coins, but now you got two options.

If you keep them, it's equivalent to investing $112,000 in BTC - and there isn't a slightest clue for you on how things gonna go.

If you sell them and invest money in something else, then there's a ton of opportunities for you to make best decisions to drastically increase your chances to succeed.

[1 Points] 6to23:

Don't quit your job. Don't go too extravagant with your vacation. Honestly, 100k is not that much although it may feel like it is depending on your financial situation. It's quite easy to spend 50-60k a year on normal everyday bullshit.

Pay off any debt you have, invest the rest in whichever form you think is best.

(Don't be a hot shot just because you came into some money. My SO's sister came into 200k last August and was a total asshole about it; flaunting every which way she could. Fast forward to this year, she's already been asking for gas money. LMFAO, nobody likes helping assholes.)

[1 Points] darlantan:

100K? Nigga, that ain' even CLOSE to quit your job money!

Cash out one for a vacation or bit of fun as a "Hooray!" thing. Cash out two more and use them to repair/maintain everything around you that needs fixing (including yourself). Anything left over you leave alone as ongoing fix/emergency money.

The remaining 25? As others have said, hire a planner and invest that shit. Forget it even exists.

EDIT: Totally forgot about debt since I haven't carried any in a while. Pay down all your debt first.

I would convert it to a stable coin or in $$. I don't trust this high rise in bitcoin rate. It can drop anytime. I mean sure if it increases to $5000 and you sold now you'll be little disappointed or not. But if it drops back to where it was a month ago I guess you'll kick yourself. What you do with the money afterwards, well others have answered amply on it.

[1 Points] MANIACMATERIAL:

[1 Points] buickbeast:

I wouldn't tell anyone that I received that amount of money, not even a penny of it. Money changes people for the worst, especially when it's instant. People you haven't heard from in years will come out of the word work. Friends, close friends and family. Doesn't matter, $$$ makes people do weird shit.

If anyone asks, tell them you've been saving for a rainy day. It's not going to do you a bit of good disclosing this to anyone.

Personally, I'd take out like 60-75%. Pay off everything. If it's just you and you don't love what you do, then give your two weeks. Take the rest of the year and figure out something you want to do that's fairly cheap like hiking, riding a motorcycle from one coast to another or something similar where you can clear your mind.

Perhaps going to your nearby community college and asking someone that teaches finances or something in that field what they would do.

Either way, grats on your loot!

[1 Points] Fiyero109:

Can anyone explain how one translates the bitcoin from a flash drive to selling it?

[1 Points] Electric_sheep01:

Don't be a poor fag invest that shit noob

[1 Points] schwillynelson89:

Nice lowkey humblebrag bro. I am obviously jealous, not gonna lie.

[1 Points] chochochan:

I had a friend whose dad died and left him 100k when he was 19 years old. We would always party at his house, he had all these crazy bongs, and a nice place to live. 4 years later he was broke without a degree. Not sure what happened to him. That money won't last as long as you think it will.

Most definitely get help, tax help is important too. I'm not sure but you might owe capital gains on that.

[1 Points] 23Tawaif:

Try r/personalfinance

[1 Points] thascarecro:

If i just came up on that kind of money the last thing i would do is order bulk drugs on the internet. Yes i know what sub i'm in.

[1 Points] None:

100k is fucking nothing. just keep the coins for another decade, they will be worth millions by then. cashing them out now is short sighted as hell. but youll do it anyways.

[1 Points] LukeJ67:

if ur looking at expanding the stuff you buy to resell let me know

[1 Points] armorpiercingtracer:

Get high

[1 Points] machete234:

Relax, its impossible to lose it all and very unlikely that it will devalue to a point under 2000.

Dont quit yout job and just hold. You don't need to make quick decisions now

[1 Points] jealousmith:

oi veyyy. buy some bitcohen

[1 Points] jaydee0007:

If it was me, I would buy 100k worth of stuff (or at least 50k worth), sell it, then buy back same amount of coins again, or even better buy back coins when they dip.

Only thing is, you dont just wake up one day have 100k of drug stock to sell. Generally you would have built up to that over the years and gained experience, so it could be dangerous in that sense.

Happy for you. Be safe!

[1 Points] Lyzergic:

You did just win a lottery. Thats a pretty big come up. I would quit your job JUST yet. 28 coins is about $100k USD

[1 Points] Realitybytes_:

Sell all, put into index fund.

Not sexy but definitely financially savvy.

[1 Points] isaiah412:

You need to get a financial advisor and have them move money for you man, don’t do anything stupid you just come into the opportunity of a life time to become a millionaire

Finish school Keep your job Your investments can grow but until then, save it and have your money make money for you.

Every millionaire has more than 1 source of income

[1 Points] SecondChanceUsername:

you're living every DarkNetters dream! HAHA. Good for you bro. Im a little jealous. You should def diversify your windfall and cash out some to fiat(maybe 10-15% of your total worth) Keep another 20-30% in BTC and maybe other cryptos currencies that have potential to blow up! and put the remaining money into traditional investments. And of course use 5% for vacation + drugs and maybe cutting your hours at the $12/hr job maybe only work 1 day a week. It'll give you that reward you're looking for but also let you maintain some tie to the real world while you figure out what you wanna do. Because TBH most people hate living life without having a job. Life really does get boring after a while of not being employed in some way. So don't quit work right away. But you should definetely treat your self! Treat yo self 2017!

[1 Points] OodlesDoodlesOfDrugs:

Don't tell anyone, get a financial advisor and cash out 50% of it and invest it

[1 Points] RedBullFan137:

Funnel it all into a mutual fund and start building wealth early on. If all your debts are already paid off great. If not use some of the bitcoin to do that. Mutual funds are a great way to get 5-9% interest depending on the market and is passive investing which means you can sleep at night. R/personalfinance might also be a good place to hit up but DO NOT SPEND THIS MONEY. Save it consider it a gift from God and that you're one step ahead now of where you were.

[1 Points] murrayvonmises:

How you doing today, OP? Did you end up selling them all? Did you keep some and watch them go to the moon?

[1 Points] ShitpeasCunk:

Don't ask drug dealers / buyers for financial advice!

Is it possible for the government to ever shut bitcoin down/make it useless??

[0 Points] bassface69:

Bitcoin aint going down anytime soon, so hanging on to them might be wise

[0 Points] Droppin__6s:

Split it 60/40 with saving and buying, I definitely would quit my job tho,

[0 Points] techguru94:

HODL! But seriously, it looks like BTC Is about to hit a downswing so I'd hold onto them for the moment. There's always gonna be time to cash out later and you're gonna hate yourself forever if you cash out at 100,000 and they're worth a million later.

I'd hold till they hit the $4000 mark again before a full selloff, and this comes with other perks too. Remember that if you're in the US any transaction over $10,000 is gonna get flagged for the IRS so be smart and know what you need to do to claim this money properly. You don't want the cluster fuck of a tax audit when it comes to digital currencies.

I'd cash out one or two, split the funds between a bank account and PayPal to reduce the likelihood of issues with high value transfers, and then get yourself some dope ass drugs. Also remember you've got Bitcoin Cash now too since the block chain split. Figure out how to claim it and sell that shit off. Free extra money

[0 Points] TheLastCig:

I need.. like literally $40 in BTC, is there hope for this society? I know there is, but there sure isn't $40 in BTC in my wallet for my benzodiazepine prescription I must get because doctors here are against all benzodiazepine use completely and I've been on them for years.

[-1 Points] AMPTEST:

So, here's what I have done so far. Started the process of selling on lbc of 12 coins, keeping 4 for drugs, bought a safe and locked my USB with 16 coins away Untill further notice! Still got 56,000 I'm putting away the 12 coins is going in bank account to save/pay for bills, keeping my job and got 12 grand to spend on drugs! Now the question is. What drugs to buy?? Gonna get a pound of shatter and resell at ounces for 650-750, that's bout 4 grand, I got 8g left and I love molly, so deff some of that. Probably some sheets of L to resell.

[-1 Points] xashtrayz:

Yo the fuck is this, talking about a shit post. DO I BUY DRUGS AND RESELL FOR PROFIT REDDIT? Yeah this kids 100k won't last long, damn right better hire a financial planner.
