Yeah so today I go to the post office to check the box. The lady asks me if I'm the guy on the package from budbrother. Nope, I say. You sure? She asks? Nope, I say. That your post office box? Yes, but that's not me. OK, I'll send it back? Yeah, I guess, I reply. He was hacked a few months ago, then stops using Express Post, then I get hassled about signing. What the? Anyway, fair warning for the aussies. Either the package was picked up/ profiled/ or budbrother is paying for registered post. Going to go ask him on agora...but I figured this was worth posting up here. Might save some people a big headache.
Were you using two different names on the box? I would think it suspicious if Mike Jones was the named owner of the box, the package was addressed to Mike Jones, and you said that wasn't you right after checking it. Post offices do keep track of the names on PO boxes as well as street addresses.
I imagine this package won't be a concern at all since you didn't accept the package, but you might want to evaluate future orders to that address. The PO might remove the name on the package as associated with that box number since you denied it being correct on this delivery.
It's a hotly contested topic, but half the time my carrier asks me to sign for packages that don't require signature. He flat out refuses to leave express mail without me signing, even with waived signature (I am aware he is supposed to; he just doesn't. It's a hassle as it's 99% of the time work-related mail, not orders) Things that don't fit I have to go pick up next day, and about half the time the desk clerk has me sign regardless of the mail priority. It's always a good idea to go with your gut, but there's always the possibility the clerk simply was on auto-pilot when asking you to sign without realizing it wasn't necessary for you to do so.
