[OPSEC] I want to stop being stupid

I've been ordering some stuff lately. Been using Tor for reddit and encrypting my shit (just address) but let's just say I haven't been using the safest OS. I don't have much security right now, what are some steps I should start taking to get rid of the mess I made on my computer? And then after that, what? Tails?

Tails can be a pain to install, but it's so worth it. Download tails and it's signing keys on clearnet. You might even attempt to use the Bittorrent download. The worst possible thing that could happen is you download a fake TAILs. I've never heard of it happening, but the developers say it could. That's why the signing keys are there so you can check the intergrity of the file.

You'll need 2 USB drives or a DVD burner to create the tails drive with persistence. A persistent volume is impairative to your OPSEC. You will need a secure place to store information like market passwords, wallet seeds, and PGP passwords. The TAILS program KeePassX is your greatest friend.

Linux Mint is extremely easy to install, with optional full system encryption (one tick of a box), and you can install all the software you would have on Tails from the included software manager.

Even a system wide Tor Proxy can be set up within seconds by installing the torsocks package. You instantly have a SOCKS5 proxy running on 127.0.0.1:9050.

Store your keys, passwords, etc. on an encrypted USB drive. I buy very small ones that can be swallowed if necessary.

If you do not have tails or can not figure it out or only have 1 computer and don't want to risk running another OS over it, then go with this: A good VPN Tor

Each time you run Tor, run the VPN first and make sure your IP is changed, then start Tor. When you have finished on the DNM, close tor completely, then close the VPN,

If on reddit, use Tor and your VPN

Do not visit any websites that are DNM related on the clearnet, this is as good as you can get without Tails.

For bitcoin use a tumbler, then a randon wallet, then send to DNM wallet. Use GPG for messaging.

I would say you will be 99.9% safe with this method if you follow it every time.

If your door is getting booted in by the cops, hide your computer best you can.

Isnt all this OPSEC a bit overkill for people just ordering a bit of personal? Unless your a vendor I dont think you need to be too worried.

OP has unlocked the key to getting halfway decent advice: self-deprecating post title.

You really dont need to be that para if your only ordering small amounts. Seriously, i would hazard a guess that outside of the reddit community about 80% dont even encrypt their address'. It really surprises me how over the top people get about security when all they are buying is personal amounts.

What a terrible question.
