The subtext of US president Obama's speech, what does it mean for the DNMs?

"...and that's why I will urge high-tech and law enforcement leaders to make it harder for terrorists to use technology to escape from justice."

Markets selling guns may want to rethink their business policies.

For those of you that didn't watch it here's the official summary:

"Its all cool guys. Don't worry. We're doing stuff."

Ummm... CIA created ISIS - it's all manufactured terrorism - made in the USA.

From a practical standpoint, it doesn't change much. There are black budgets that fund all sorts of shit that is already targeting various things - drugs, guns, terrorists, whatever. The way I view a speech such as this one is PR or marketing. Its the governmnet selling us on why we should be spending money targeting the platforms that supposedly support terrorism. Its to make it a bit more supportive from the public. So in my mind, nothing changes a whole lot except perhaps the governmnet can either openly spend more money to combat it OR justify what they are already spending to combat it.

In short, the only policies it changes are what the public perceives. The governmnet will do what they want behind closed doors. If they want to fight tech platforms, they'll fight them - with or without the public's support. However, its much easier to do so with public support so when the governmnet has an oppty to sell an idea to the public, they will. Its not like the government will suddenly have a ton more manpower at their disposal to fight it, they always have. The only difference is they might fight it a tad more publicly so they can show what they are doing to fight terrorism. Its a good reason for them to fight thing like BTC right? That's the argument they'll make. Its a currency largely used by tax scofflaws and terrorists and drug dealers.

this may be poking the beast, but the size of the intelligent army, the ones amount of people who actually know and understand, bitcoin, tor, darknetmarkets, and then get inside training from the govt on how it works from both ends, it doesnt take much to come to the conclusion the quantity of talented, smart individuals is much much smaller than they would like you to believe.

The amount of effort and man power it takes to say profile and go after a market admins like those of Agora, is a rediculous amount. They would need their best guys on the job around the clock years on end to get nothing.

Let alone go after vendors, or buyers. Not to mention the REVENUE is in DUI's and drug possession so in some sense the DNM's facilitate the revenue of the state by people getting caught with small amounts of drugs.

I do not think they actually intend to stop the 'creation' of new criminals, a bunch of sheepel caught with a few grams of MDMA is fun shit for popo's, especially when its in your car, and youve been drinking and smoking weed in your. Oh its just soo easy for them. (this is a typical shit police run into and its a lot easier to get a prosecution this way than trying to convince a jury a drug dog sniffed out a quadrupal sealed MMB package, not say they dont enjoy do this either) again it comes down to not just manpower, but intelligent manpower, and often with intelligence tends to come a some what disdainful attitude towards gov't, thus shrinking the size of the needed intelligent people.

I say in less than 2 year the world will see these so called 'world leaders' as nothing more than bums on the side of the street begging for attention with equal amount of power and sway.

Too much resistance to censor the internet in the ways they speak of.

Obama is a charlatan, so are judges, police, popes... Once the costumes come on, its just a charade.

Bunch of idiots that know nothing about computers or the internet trying to govern the internet.

It has been suggested that terrorist groups use "dark space" to communicate and make plans. A politician was on Face The Nation a couple weeks backs saying that. Also, I have noticed that not too long after a site claims that they are "no longer selling weapons", Abraxas and now Nucleus, that site disappears.

These onion sites were supposed to be a safer way to get what you want, they were supposed to be about freedom and choice, they were supposed to reduce instances of street crime and keep drugs out of the hands of minors. If that what these sites were really all about then maybe LE would not have as big a problem with them as they do right now.

It would seem that in addition to taking all the scumbaggery of street dealing and putting it online (rip offs, scam artists, buyers being threatened if they dare complain, etc.) that these sites are also a front terrorists and anyone seeking toxins and weapons in order to harm others.

So much for anonymity and personal freedom. So much for the "revolution".
