Is it reliable to contact vendors directly?

So. All of my vendors were on agora, which I've been using reliably since last year with no problems. I don't trust any other market, especially considering the public announcement by agora, I feel some will take this opportunity to get as many clients from agora as they can and exit scam.

I know this is a vendor-by-vendor case (I'm especially interested on T5, TGUK and lostheaven), but would it be reliable contacting them directly, with no escrow and only their word?

It'd be the same thing as FEing on a market. It's up to you to take the risk or not. Personally I would only ever do a direct deal with someone who has a standup reputation (meaning 1000+ deals done with a perfect rating). And even then you still can't guarantee you won't get ripped off.

Yes it would be safe as long as you trust your vendor. I would suggest maintaining good communications with a vendor until you feel comfortable enough to buy. You can often get a good feel about the reliability of a vendor just by talking to them.

I would recommend making an account at TMG

All depends on the vendor. I would never do a direct deal with a vendor without at least a couple on-market, but if you have money you can afford to lose, go for it. I only direct deal with two vendors and we had a long track record beforehand of orders and some trades on my end

While I can't comment on direct deals since I haven't done them since before SR1 was a thing...I can say for certain that you should avoid lostheaven at all costs. It's a mystery on what the real story is but he definitely owes a lot of people at least 100K worth of product/coins.
