What's the best way to connect to Reddit when talking about shady stuff?

So I just posted about an order I made on a darknet market.

Obviously it's not a good idea to connect directly through the clearnet to Reddit when talking about shady stuff, since I don't know what Reddit shares with law enforcement.

Even if Reddit shares nothing intentionally, as per their privacy policy, connections to Reddit are clearnet, and not usually encrypted (unless connecting to ssl.reddit.com) so the government can know who is sending packets to Reddit at the time I post and see where they're coming from, as well as possibly the content of the packets of what I post.

I'm using a Tor + a proxychain + a private proxy to connect to Reddit. The proxies may or may not belong to (or be paid for) by me.

Is this enough or should I be doing something else?

I assume a private proxy by itself isn't safe, since they know your IP address and also that you're paying for it, but if you connect to one through Tor this should be safe enough, if you paid for it, you can always say you have that shady friend you share your proxy with, and if they connected through Tor there's no way to know who it is doing the transmission. Paying for a proxy that somebody (else) talks about their illegal activities through is NOT illegal, committing illegal activity yourself is.

What about a stolen/carded/hacked proxy? Do people actually do that?

A VPN has the same issue as a proxy, and you can't necessarily chain VPNs as easily as proxies. 1) You have to pay for it somehow, which requires your real name unless you have a scheme to avoid that (i.e. a stealth PayPal account for instance) 2) You have to connect to it somehow, which requires your real IP address unless you are chaining through Tor (difficult with a VPN) or using a proxychain of public proxies, at least one of which isn't logging IPs

I assume getting a proxy/VPN under a stealth identity is similar to getting a VPS under a stealth identity, namely you need a stealth PP account or something equivalent

Seems overkill.

You also say "the government." Do you expect the government analyzes all internet traffic and pinpoints everyone who posts/uses the internet? I find it a bit silly to believe that. If you're getting caught because of something you posted on reddit, they were already looking at you for some reason.

Simply using Tor is enough unless you are posting information that could link your reddit account to accounts on illegal sites. This seems like a lot for only being concerned about reddit activity.

If you are paying for a private proxy then u just removed the anonymity that TOR gave you. There are a couple of different scenarios you might be worried about:

  1. If you connect directly to TOR, your ISP can see that you are a TOR user. To prevent this, go YOU -> VPN -> TOR
  2. If you are using a TOR exit nodes, websites you visit will see this. To prevent this, go TOR -> VPN -> WEBSITE. Obviously this VPN must not be tied to you - pay for it with bitcoins (that are properly mixed).

The ultimate solution is to combine these so you have: YOU -> VPN (can be tied to you) -> TOR -> VPN (anonymous) -> WEBSITE

In general I like to avoid making statements like "I just placed an order from Andromeda..." from my real IP address.

I don't want to be identified as a DNM user by my ISP, the government, the NSA, or anyone else. This can easily be done if I utter such statements via my real IP.

It's bad enough they can identify me as a Tor user--- this is obvious if you screen my packets using even a simple packet sniffing program.

So --- it might be overkill ---- but I'm still asking, what's the best way to do it, if you are really concerned about security?

I need to add some information on this very topic into our FAQ, as it's certainly a question that gets asked frequently, and is a very important question to ask. Thank you for asking it! =)

If you're just admitting to buying for personal use, then Tor is enough. If you're admitting to selling a couple of bricks, then more security would be warranted (though internet security would be far from being the weakest link in your operation).

[1 Points] truthfractal:

And YES, I would like to make statements about what I bought and things that could link my Reddit account to my darknet accounts.

Security is a paradise. Once you have it, you can talk about whatever you want with impunity. So I'm looking to get there.

For instance I would like to be able to talk to the Andromeda admins about my order number so they can speed up resolution processing. (A big no-no if you're using the clearnet to connect to Reddit.)

Even if I encrypt the message, it could still fuck me over if Andromeda's servers were seized and the FBI recovered their encryption keychain.

And yes---- ampthetamine is my drug of choice. So I love overkill. (Think of the crackheads with 16 bolts on their doors. : )

For all of those wanting to discuss drugs here, unless you're posting a picture of the pound of coke you bought, you're fine using a regular browser. No need to buy some private VPN bullshit.
