Expect a new tails update soon

Obviously it's best practice to upgrade your OS as soon as an update becomes available (and it's it's been verified to be authentic by the authors). However with Tails being based on Debian 7 "Wheezy"...

...Well At some point, I think in the last 24 hours Debian has moved up to version 8 "Jessie". I'm now in the process of running the update (Taking forever too I might add).

But since so many of you here use Tails, well I'd be surprised if you didn't see an update very soon, and it's just to say, don't immediately panic about it being a major security fix, it may be a major security update, but it's more likely to just be upgrading it's kernel in line with Debian.

That's not to say "don't run the update if it comes along", definitely do, just that this time around (if it does come along in the next few days) It may not be the same level of critical security update that you'd normally see

Nope.

Wheezy is now just Debian Oldstable, which still receives security updates for quite a while. I would be very, very shocked if the Tails developers were planning to move away from Wheezy anytime in the near future - after all, Tails was based on the previous Oldstable up until just a few months ago (nearly two years after Wheezy was released!).

It's cool to stay abreast of exciting developments in the open source world like the Jessie release, but fortunately it's not anything that folks here should have to concern themselves with for a good, long time.
