Just gonna ask here, so what's this mean? Literally no mail moving in Canada? Doesn't federal laws prevent that from happening?

Possibilities of collective bargaining threat to strike:
Workers Strike; Management does not "lock-out". This allows for ununionized workers and contract workers (of which Canada Post employs many to "outsource" mail delivery in some communities), aka "line-crossers" to perform the labour of the striking workers. This can allow for spotty, inconsistent mail services in sporadic areas; limited by the line-crossing at primary mail sortation facilities.
Workers Strike; Management Locks Workers out. The striking workers, nor representing union can make the decision to go back to work. This situation is an indicator of the two sides being uncompromising, and typically translates to lengthier periods of being off the job.
No Strike; service continues as usual.
Strike is repealed; deemed an "essential service", and temporarily exempt from certain employment rights protections relating to union protected workers. Repeals historically have involved day-weeks-months to come into effect; and repeal action cannot be taken to prevent a strike, as the determination of "essential services" is an interim mandate, and arbitrarily binding.

Panicking. Ordered something from the west coast Canada on monday, was shipped on Tuesday and still nothing over a week later to eastern Canada. One day left since Friday is a holiday

Fuck you Beavers.
There was one of these back in 2011 (pre-DNM era for most people on here) and the government legislated them back to work (they can do that for "essential services").
They might let this thing run a few extra days because it's summer, but I really wouldn't expect this thing to go on longer than a week or so
