What are we coming to guys?

I remember when SR1 was online, the thought of an exit scam. Maybe it's because I was dumb and young, but I had no qualms sending encrypted messages, FEinf and the most security I ever took was using the markets encryption. Hell, I often used my my SR1 wallet as my primary wallet, becauee exit scams just weren't something on my mind. Nothing bad ever happened until Nuclues I think, never got scammed or had btc stolen til Nucleus went down.

And the selection- ho boy. So many listings, and I saw awesome shit. Besides the guns, explosives and fake passports that may or may not be honey pots, they had some interesting drugs. And 2c you wanted, 5meo dmt, hell even a bottle of unopened methadrine from the 50s. Even PCP!

Then it got worse. Agrora and a few others stood out, but as time has gone on markets longevity has been on the steep decline. Alphabay was an anomaly, no one thought it would last that long. Now it seems like the average time line now for a market is a few months back. The selection is pathetic, and the tone of the sub has changed from sarcastic and trollt but still helpful to just plain old insulting.

What happened? Did the busts fracture the community? Have people just up and left the scene as it's gotten riskier? Whose behind these seemly increasing incidents of mass DDOS attacks? Why are they doing this now when the silk road, which I think has facilitated more deals than any other market, was dominating the scene?

What do you guys think?

Unfortunatelly most of the folks who run these markets done see it as a community like we do. They see an opportunity to get rich when they eventually exit.

SR1 was more of a community because of DPR and what he was tryna create. Ever since then the more criminal elements of the DNMs has seeped in. Greed too more than anything contributes to exit scams and such. Basic human nature. I actually miss AB now. I know lots of ppl hated it but I never once had an issue. In fact I once got 1.5 BTC from them for free when they had that weird tumbler bug or something. Shit if only I had that 1.5 BTC for free now I'd buy all the drugs lmao

AB had more listings than SR, Dream too—which has been online since 2013. How is that for market lifespan? Don’t get me wrong, not sure that I would choose right now to use it... but I might.

This is all really healthy in my opinion. People forget that these markets, and their users, are all relatively recent phenomena.

Each time there's an exit scam, or a market owner goes down for using a clear net screen name, or someone gets busted for poor opsec or not using PGP, or security falls behind by not decentralizing or adopting new tech, a hard lesson is learned and changes are slowly made. These will make the markets and the community more robust in the long term.

When you look at the big picture this stuff is less than a decade old. We're really not even in the second generation of markets. Alphabay didn't even have time to learn from the mistakes of SR

The Summer of Love was pretty much the same way. Everything was mellow, people were decent to each other, all was copacetic... for about three months. Then, slowly, in came speed and the dealers, followed by hardasses and ripoffs. Free clinics got robbed, food co-ops got held up, guys got their asses kicked and chicks got raped. The good vibes were gone, and we drifted off. Some people stayed and rebuilt, but the beautiful energy was done.

Read revolutionary-era American history and you can see the same thing gradually happening. I talked to an old woman who had been active in the French resistance during the Nazi occupation, and she said it happened there, too. Only when people sold out, other people were tortured and killed.

The sleaze is attracted to a Good Thing like flies to honey, only it's the flies bringing their own shit.

its the end of the year and shit get shakey all around the world around these times. give it time and everything will settle down again. and for the record, I think the current drug selection at our disposal is more than fine. Sure, there aren't as many options as how things were this summer, but the shit that you need is still at the reach.

Somewhere around, lurking in the shadows of this sub, is an ideologue just like Ross Ulbricht creating the next SR1 with even better security. Although unpredictable on a timeline, it will happen. _^

[2 Points] loveletterreceiver:

There were vendors and markets scamming long before whatever happened to nucleus happened, the biggest markets scams, sheep & Evo were both pre-nucleus, the biggest vendor scam Tony67 was on silk road

Bottom line is some people suck balls.

[1 Points] Ne007:

Once decentralized wallets are mainstream, all that will not be an issue. Those sites will just need block chain verification of transfers. No coins will need to be held on the site....well...why do they even need that now really? Why can't they just have you list your addresses and verify the transfer by the blockchain? Decentralized markets will be coming sometime.....

What drives everyone in the world.. Money.

Tragedy of the commons is a universal rule.

Money makes the world go round. Nobody I guess cares about making it a statement anymore. That died when Ross Ulbrict got life in jail for standing up for what he believed in.

i agree with this. head over to r/DNMUK for the sarcasm, at least the english are still funny.

[1 Points] DickCheeseKillah:

People don't give Ross enough credit. He did fuck up a lot but he did have morals and he would never scam.
