Honeypots on the Darkweb

How do you guys feel about the security of the darkweb? After SR 1.0 was shut down, it seems that massive efforts were put in place to infiltrate the darkweb.

Recently articles were published stating that interpol is taking the threat seriously and putting in massive efforts to find an exploit/way to catch users.

Even if tor WAS untraceable, users are using new markets set up by people they dont know, purchasing things and providing their actual address.

And where are these markets heard of? By word of mouth on reddit and other public forums. I doubt it would be very hard for the worlds governments to make a market, and have popular/trusted reddit/forum personas in order to spread the popularity of their market, all while using the the names of vendors they had caught in the past.

It would appear that something massive is going to happen soon. Donnie Brasco comes to mind. Before operation Donnie Brasco, investigators had no way of knowing how the mafia even operated, they didn't know it was a tiered operation. They did something unthinkable at the time(having one of their own work through the mob) and were able to bring everyone down.

Whats happening on the deepweb now is a big deal, whether some believe it to be so or not. Theres an open drug market that EVERYONE knows about, its not just the technologically savvy anymore.

Dude, it's only Monday, your tinfoil is a day early.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of the newer markets are honeypots. LE has done so with carding sites & CP sites. LE creating a market to catch people isn't beyond them.

[2 Points] J0NJ0NES:

Of course, this is perfectly reasonable. I would even go so far as to say that at minimum one DN market or service must by this point be operated by LE. And if I had to guess as to where LE would direct their resources for best affect, I would point to a tumbling service. I even have a pretty good guess as to which tumbling service would be the honey pot if LE were already running one of them, but I think thoughtful and reasonable people would make the same guess so I'm not going to make any accusations.

Use TAILS, do your business ASAP. Use a scrub program like "CyberScrub" and this is the most important thing you can do if the LE shows up at your place of living!!!!! Keep your mouth SHUT & deny, deny, deny any knowledge of said package. Also, encrypt your hard dive with Vera Crypt!!!! Please READ over this, as it is great info to know!!!!! https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkNetMarkets/comments/3bnihu/how_to_avoid_a_controlled_delivery/

LE do jump into busted vendor accounts but as for them running a market for anything other than in-house training or shopify style CP and weapons stores wouldn't of thought so, but then again I'm just some regular jerkoff so what do I know

personally, i think that the best way for them to take down markets would be to attack them (DDOS, etc) but only after they find admins. They want admins first (to scare anyone else from starting up), then they want the vendors (the ones who do massive bulk). I dont think busting small-time personal buyers would be very productive from a cost/benefit standpoint

[1 Points] II-NataYmleg:

Running a market would lead them nowhere because all they had would be the participants' public PGP keys (that can't be tied to real-world identities), encrypted messages that can't be decrypted without the recipients' private keys, and a few bitcoins to steal.

Direct deals on the darknet are a different thing. You could well be dealing with a cop impersonating someone else, especially if you don't/can't trust his PGP key.

If LE did decide to start a market for the purpose of arresting "criminals" they wouldn't be able to arrest for selling or buying on the market. They could only use the fact that you bought/sold on the market to get warrants/surveillance to investigate you further and arrest you for a separate crime. At least for LE in USA
