I didn't know how to word this on google, so I figured I'd ask you guys and gals
If one has a script for a certain substance, and they were administered a random test by an employer would they be in the clear as long as they have proof of the script? It's probably better to explain my exact situation. I have a script for 15 hydrocodone (as needed, no refills). It doesn't expire for a year, so I'm assuming it's good for a year to be used as an excuse if a drug test was to happen? My main question is, if I use another opiate/opiod, whether it be oxycodone, oxymorphone, etc., will the hydrocodone script cover my ass on a random drug test? Will the test differentiate the oxycodone from hydrocodone, or is a simple positive for any opiate/opioid?
It depends. I'm pretty decently versed with drug tests. If the drug test is a simple assay then opiates are opiates. Heroin, morohine, codeine will trigger a positive and cannot distinguish. Vicodin can sometimes trigger the opiate panel as well. Oxy will not and Oxy requires a special test to test for it.
Generally when the assay triggers a positive, it'll be sent to a lab for GC/Ms verification. This is extremely accurate and WILL tell which drugs you have. So they can distinguish be the any of the opiates or opioids.
Do you know if it's an assay with gcms verification? If so there is no tricking it. If it's just an assay those are cheap and unreliable. Many employers will use gcms to verify. For me, hydrocodone sometimes will not show up unless an extended opioid panel was ordered. But taking a lot of hudrocodone can trigger it. But an extended opioid panel usually will include Oxy and hydrocodone and the like.
Remember drug tests check for drug metabolites. Not the drug itself. They can tell by breakdown what you e taken. For instance, dialuadid is a minor metabolite of hudrocodone. Someone taking hydrocodone will also have dialaudid in their system and its metabolites. It someone just had dialaudid and not the other metabolites then the MRO will know the patient just took dialuadid and not hydrocodone.
First order of business - are they ordering gcms confirmation? If so, then they can tell exactly what you've taken. If not, they might not be able to distinguish. However Oxy will not show in a standard assay so there is an Oxy assay and obviously if that's triggered you e taken Oxy. On home assays I've triggered positive for Oxy when all I've taken is norco. I don't know why but just be aware of that
