java and javascript are two different things. You should probably burn down your house and move to belize if you haven't already. But really, you're probably fine just don't do it in the future.

When you open the browser, to the left of the URL bar there will be a NoScript icon. Click that, then click "Disable javascript globally". Jay wrote up an excellent guide on this, and includes how to whitelist reddit so you're still able to make submissions and comments.
Better than using the NoScript icon, now, is clicking the Tor Button icon and selecting "Privacy and Security Options..." and then setting the Security Slider all the way up to "High." This disables scripting globally, and adds some other security features. Don't use any setting for DNM stuff except "High" (though you may have to bring it down - TEMPORARILY - to "Medium-High" if you really must post on reddit).
If your version of Tor Browser doesn't have the security slider, then you're doing it wrong and need to update immediately - and stay on top of updates in the future.
