TIFU facing 3 felonies for honesty

I was driving to a music festival in another state blasting some good beats when I see a cop two lanes over, I was doing 75 in a 65. I do the old fashion slow down slowly as the rest of traffic zooms by me. The cop and I drive in the same direction for about a mile or two. He then gets into my lane and pulls me over.

I roll down my window and give him the "I'm sorry officer" deal and he proceeds to ask me a buttload of questions. "Where you going? Who are you going with? Where are you from? Where'd you go to school?" odd questions for a traffic stop. Anyways, the questions go on and he then notices a small pill in my cup holder of the center console and asks me what it was. I said it was my dad's adderall because he had been driving the car the week before. (the pivotal fuck up). I was then removed from the car and my car was searched.

Inside they found copious amounts of Mdma and paraphernalia which they deemed worthy of distribution. I was shipped to jail and was released that evening because it was my first offense ever.

Where Opsec is concerned I made some really stupid decisions about possession and such but my laptop and phone were confiscated. The phone was somehow remotely wiped should it ever be turned on with internet ;) (but does anyone know how le analyzes iphones for messages?) and my laptop will most likely not be searched properly but Im still in deep.

I just am sitting here watching my life fall apart and wanted to let you all know to reevaluate your decisions. Im very young and facing 12 years maximum for a stupid rave. We all say "I'm too smart to be caught" or "It'll never be me" but that one time you fuck up, the law might get you too.

Wish me luck boys. Stay safe. Stay hidden. And sometimes honesty isnt the best policy.

TL;DR Got pulled over, searched due to dad leaving his adderall in car, lots of molly, facing 12 years max.

EDIT: I will update you all hopefully with what happens to me. If I can't, hopefully you'll be around when I get out. Most of you said the obvious things I should of done in hindsight but as a frazzled kid with no idea that adderall was considered something to gain probable cause I would have either swallowed it or said it was my asprin. TIL also fitting for me.

This would make a great sticky for what not to do. 1: Never speed when transporting illegal substances. 2: Never leave an illegal substance out in the open. OPs vehicle was able to be searched without his permission thanks to the plain view doctrine. Best of luck to you OP. The only advice I can offer is to pay well for a good lawyer. Do not represent yourself or use a public defender.

[39 Points] randomnumberx:

I wouldn't say "3 felonies for honesty" I'd say stupid choices.

[26 Points] mindfulmu:

A locking briefcase, requires a warrant to search it.
Don't fucking speed in a car when your carrying something hot.
Do a quick maintenance check of all your lights and signals.
Use your own fucking car to ensure everything is good and clean.
Drive an old man car.
dont use a motherfucking iPhone!
Use a fucking Android smartphone, follow the hardening guide and ensure debugging mode is off. Add facial unlock with blink and add a pin as a backup, encrypt and have your phone in your briefcase, use a fucking bluetooth if need be.
Last but not fucking least retain a lawyer, even lie and pick up a card of a criminal lawyer just to have around.

"3 felonies for honesty"

"copious amounts of MDMA and paraphernalia which they deemed worthy of distribution."

you sure it was for the honesty bud?

[6 Points] darkwebacct:

When I was 18 I yelled "come in" thinking someone was coming to pick up some products from myself and my roommate. It was a detective and a cop. They came to find 1lb of pot pre-bagged into eighths, scales, paraphernalia, RX pills that I had no RX for, In fact there was a pill crushed up on a mirror with a giant straw next to it right next to the bong in plain sight. That was the probable cause. Furthermore I had a vial of K in my pocket, when I was patted down. The lesson is that I was a first time offender and got an ACD, basically all charges dropped for 6 months of good behavior, no time served and they had me dead to rights. A young first time offender gets off easy when it comes to drugs. Jails are all overcrowded with nonviolent drug offenders, the DA doesn't have to be best friends with your attorney to keep you out of jail. Get a public defender if you can't afford an attorney and tell them you will go to NA meetings and you know you have a problem and want help. You'll be fine. I don't care where you live, that's just how it works. Addiction is a disease and they will look at that before distribution. Unless you were caught in the act of selling crack cocaine to a police officer, I'm fairly certain a first time offender will not serve any jail time.

[5 Points] Northsidebill1:

The amount of Weapons Grade stupidity in this post is just mind boggling.

FYI: You arent facing 12 years for telling the truth, youre facing 12 years for driving over the speed limit with a buttload of drugs in your car, including SOME IN PLAIN SIGHT. That alone is incomprehensibly stupid, and then you make a post online admitting everything?

This is either a play for sympathy or an outright lie. No one is this stupid and still able to use a computer

[4 Points] Kolfinna:

Being honest didn't fuck you, speeding and having visible drugs in the car fucked you.

[3 Points] None:

and just so you know man, "facing 12 years" is a whole lot different than getting sentenced to 12 years. they'll plea you down and you probably won't have to do any time.

i got in trouble once in a similar situation and was charged originally with 7 felonies and was facing 12-15 years but i spent all of my money on an amazing lawyer and got a misdemeanor and a large fine.

[3 Points] cardevitoraphicticia:

How much MDMA is "copious"?

[2 Points] None:

How much was your bail?

[2 Points] None:

Honesty works, but only if your already fucked, have a generous cop, and have luck on your side. I've seen it, but that was not a situation for honesty.

[2 Points] None:

That's fucking horrible. i hope it all works out. Keep your chin up. You definitely won't get the maximum, and you'll be back on the outside before you know it.

[2 Points] None:

Honesty is never the best policy when it comes to dealing with LE in my experience.

[2 Points] None:

But in all reality you most likely won't do any time. A good friend a mine who was a user of the DNMs was caught last year with probably 10ish different kinds of substances in his dorm room. Not really copious amounts but with the laundry list of different drugs they tried to get him for distribution. Long story short he ended up with charges being dropped (had wealthy parents so he could afford a really good lawyer) and got kicked out of his dorm for the last 4 weeks of the semester.

[1 Points] DrGrinch:

Depending on which LE it is, they will have forensics take your phone and hook it up with a device which will pull the image of the phone without it ever seeing the internet/network. Such devices only cost about 2k, so they're pretty commonplace these days in LE.

[1 Points] hashmon:

Good luck, OP. I'm sorry we live in such a fucked up society. I don't know what state you're in, but... Maybe you'll get a year and some probation. Totally possible you'll get less than that, like six months. The lack of a record is a really, really good thing. I've had a lot of friends serve some months in prison. You'll survive and you're still young.

[1 Points] butters091:

Come on OP. I'm sorry you had to learn such basic things the hard way, but comon!

[1 Points] veryfatdonkey:

So all you had to do was drive the speed limit and dont be stupid and have random pills in your cup holder. I've driven to many music festivals with my car full of you name it illegal stuff. Don't give them a reason to pull you over. Don't get complacent.

[1 Points] None:

Always stash it like you'll get searched.

[1 Points] None:

After reading the story, all this could have been avoided had you just used your brain eve a little bit. You don't speed with drugs in the car 9 a lot of people do, myself included at times sadly lol). So as I stated, try not to speed. But listen, if you do speed, make sure to have everything hidden so nobody has a reason to be able to search your car. This was a HUGE mistake to have a pill sitting out, that's just saking to go to jail?If you don't mind me asking OP, but why did you have it out and not inside something so it couldn't be seen from the outside? And this point when he did see it, why didn't you lie about what it was? Act like you have no clue who put it thee or how it got there? what type of pill is that? I have no clue, I didn't even know it was there until, you said something. Thanks officers, proceeds to try to throw away pill. lol (in a dream world). But yeah man, best of youe luck with your case and I hope you learned a valuable lesson from this.

[1 Points] self-suc-4-days:

Im sure this is not what you want to hear but this could have all been avoided if you drove the speed limit while you had copious amounts of drugs in your car (your words not mine).

[1 Points] None:

did u really think being honest about an illegal felony ( the pill ) was going to get you off. it's not like you had a bit of weed and were honest. You had a prescription pill which is a felony and something officers hate and don't mess around about. You really expected him to let you go? That's not the way it works, brother.

[1 Points] icunicornz:

Yeah, if you're on the way to a music festival then you better be on point. Local police are always on the prowl at these things and want to bust young festival goers. They know lots of people come with drugs and they are definitely suspicious of every youth. You better be straight as an arrow before you get there... I've heard of so many stories of cops pulling people over and trying to search people's vehicles without merit.

1) Don't leave shit out in plain view.. seriously, just gives them a chance to automatically search you. 2) Don't speed... don't give them any reason whatsoever to pull you over. 3) Don't blast music or look like you've started the party too early 4) Don't smoke weed in the car at any point and make sure there is absolutely zero smell 5) Be as low key as possible!!

[1 Points] niggerplease2:

Should have put your drugs in your butthole, its the safest way to travel

[1 Points] 13tom13:

i dont get how you werent freaking out and making sure you did everything right for example why were you speeding with lots of mdma in your car, still though i feel sorry for you and i dont drive so maybe its just very easy to do without realizing

[1 Points] dirtystilts:

Call yourself a good lawyer my man

[1 Points] Zoominsquad:

sounds like a cop was deliberately looking for you. you werent speeding by a significant margin. keep your info tight.

[1 Points] None:

you might be able to beat these charges hear me out.... you didn't know that you had adderall (lol adderally REALLY) in your car until the police pointed it out to you. In order to search the car the police need to catch you in a crime or have your consent. A crime of possession for drugs involves KNOWINGLY possessing a drug. Therefore since you did not commit a crime, they shouldn't have been able to search the car, 4th amendment boom dismissed done.

[1 Points] Elrond_the_Ent:

BTW you didnt throw away your life. You probably arent going to get 12 years. Whatever you get, you will get past it. I did.

[1 Points] Hank_Vendor:

Sucks man. Hopefully you longshot it and get off. Either way, all the best man.

This is going to court 100/100 times so you know. So don't bother trying to convince the police you are innocent. If I was you, I'd be working on my "I need help, not punishment. Please help me" face.

Also, they have got everything on your phone. So if you need to tell some people to get rid of some shit, better do it sharpish. Ditto your laptop. Only you know whats on that shit, but you better be ready to explain it. You should be of the opinion that "my laptop most likely WILL be searched properly."

12 years in jail in your head and 12 years in jail in jail are two hugely different things, and any time at all you can get knocked off that is worth every fucking hour you have left to try to do it.

Not to rub your face in it in anyway. But just so everyone reading understands this - If you are carrying drugs, do not fuck around! Going 10mph over the speed limit isn't shit, though it's not advisable. But you go with the flow of traffic. Never the fastest, never the slowest. But a pill in the cup holder?? Seriously? After driving with the cop behind you for a mile or two.

And I can't speak for America, but I can't imagine it's much different than here really. The difference between a "can you step out of the vehicle please and place you hands on bonnet" and a "OK, thank you. Drive safe." Is the "where?"/"when?"/"why?"/"With who?" audition you do. That is THE most important thing to have down. Always have a plan of where you are going, why, and where you are coming from. And it better make sense. It doesn't matter if it is to meet a fatty from POF (a classic) or to take your nan out to buy a budgie. But if your aren't directly between the two places you say, they are gonna get in your shit.

Other than that, personally I'd advise against both the "I do not consent to this" and the "this one time, at band camp" tactics. If you piss them off, they will piss you off back. But unless you a real natural speaker, and able to completely forget the fact, that you have a 7 stretch worth of coke in the boot, the more you say is just the more chance they have to catch you out on something. Watch some cop stop TV shows and count how many people should have just shut the fuck up.

You know how people who aren't carrying drugs act when they get stopped by the police? They act like they are forcing themselves to be polite, even though they are majorly pissed off. Because they are late, they are in a rush, but they don't want another fucking fine they will forget to pay, that will bite them in the arse in 4 years and cost them a months wages.

[1 Points] Silencer123:

1st offense ever - get a lawyer and go to drug court... My ex got one first degree and a second degree felony drug charges along with a Class A misdemeanor and they didn't think twice. Drug court - Of course this means a whole fucking year of being 100% sober.

[1 Points] zombilives:

I'msorry mate but next time do like me: prepare an envelope and place near your ass or balls. is stupid blast music and drive with mdma and maybe ffuck your life and your parents. drugs must be used by smart people

[-5 Points] randomomos:

This should be an anti speediong PSA: you do realize going 75 instead of 65 mph will save you about 4.78 seconds... depending on distance.

Also how the frack do you argue with science. He tagged you at 75mph. You admit in this thread you were going 75mph.... AKA guilty. Words spoken after speeding issue are all on yourself AKA SAY NOTHING.

Wookies are good at shooting laser blasters but not following simple rules.
