PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 24-year-old man appeared in federal court on Thursday just hours after being arrested during a federal drug sting.
Samuel T. Wilson is charged in U.S. District Court with manufacture, distribution, or possession with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, or possess with intent to distribute, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and marijuana, unlawful importation of a controlled substance, smuggling MDMA and use of the mail to distribute proceeds derived from of the unlawful manufacture, distribution, or possession with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, or possess with intent to distribute MDMA and/or marijuana.
According to a complaint, the investigation started earlier this week when U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents discovered an international package containing 261 grams of suspected ecstasy. The discovery was made in San Fransisco and had been shipped using USPS Air Mail.
The package was sent from the Netherlands and was addressed to an individual on the 600 block of NW Autumncreek Way in Hillsboro, according to court documents.
The shipper's address had nearly 25 seizures that field tested positive for ecstasy tablets and/or powder in the past month, according to federal investigators.
On Thursday, agents and drug officers assigned to Washington County Sheriff's Office Westside Interagency Narcotics Team conducted "a controlled delivery of the parcel."
Much of the suspected drugs had been replaced by the agents, records show.
A female reportedly signed for the package and, shortly after it was delivered, agents executed a search warrant.
Wilson showed up at the apartment a short time later, according to records.
Investigators learned Wilson arranged drug packages to be sent to the address on Autumncreek Way, although he reportedly lives in Beaverton.
Wilson reportedly said he knew about the shipments, but denied placing the order. He also admitted having an account on the Darknet which is used for drug trafficking.
He has since been released from custody.
