Hello, I am writing an article about marketplaces on the deep web. I am curious to know when business started popping up on the Deep Web.

Thanks! I appreciate all your replies.

I'm pretty sure OP's definition of a market is, well, a market. Like evolution, agora, silkroad, etc. And, I also think OP'S definition of deepweb is either tor or .onion sites. I'm curious as to whether what the first darknet market was? Was it BMR?

I think the first real centralized marketplace hosted on a .onion may have been Farmer's Market. That's as far back as I can remember, I still remember hearing about it and then it being shutdown.

The Daily Dot has a good article on the history of Silk Road, I haven't read it in quite awhile, but if I remember correctly Farmer's Market was mentioned. The article can be found here - article.
