FYI: Don't let your dog eat weed or blow smoke in their face or anything of sorts

just got my pack in the other day, came home from work and my 7 month old puppy had gotten into concentrate i carelessly left out on a counter top which i thought was too tall for him to reach.

i also have two clumsy ass cats (i thought cats were supposed to be super fucking agile) that the pup likes to chase.

i believe the dog was chasing the cats, the cats jumped on the counter top knocking the concentrate over, then the dog proceeded to eat them.

anyways, i came home to my dog napping and i woke him up to say was good and he was all out of it and shaky.

i rushed him to a 24 hour vet because it was 2:45am and they told me he very obviously has poisoning from THC. they told us to take him home, make sure he drinks a ton of fluids, and pees alot to help purge his system of the toxins.

i feel like absolute shit, my dog's heart rate and blood pressure are super high. he's out of it and keeps banging his head into doorways. he keeps peeing all over the place. he's getting better hour by hour though and is starting to act more normal.

i lost a gram of concentrate, paid $120 just for the vet to tell me my dog got into some form of weed, lost a night of sleep because i was by my pup all night making sure he was okay.

thc is toxic for dogs and can cause seizures and even be fatal in large enough doses.

STASH your stash somewhere appropriate folks, and never even blow clouds into your pet's face because #1 it doesn't do anything because your lungs have already absorbed ~95% of the THC, and #2 even if it does do anything it'll just poison your animal.

Same thing happened to my dog twice (both not my fault). Had to get water injected subcutaneously. Vet told me that dogs love the smell of weed and will seek it.

I think the general consensus among redditors is that If your pet ingests weed, don't panic and wait it out and they will be fine. Interesting article I found while researching:

I can't stand when people try to get their dogs "high". They don't get high, they just feel like shit and lose motor skills. I make sure I tell any of my stoner friends when they get pets

Edit: I can't believe so many of you just blindly do this to your animals. THEY DON'T GET HIGH LIKE PEOPLE DO

I had a bichon (small dog) that ate an entire 100mg brownie from a dispensary. That's a double whammy with the chocolate and the THC. He just slept for like 2 days and was very lethargic. Can't believe he survived it because 100mg wrecks me and I'm 250 lbs. and my dog was like 25 lbs.....He was probably tripping balls hahaha

A similar thing happened to my GF dog, except instead of wax, it was shrooms! My GF and I had some shrooms on a plate on the table and we ate all but two and planned to wait and see what happens before continuing. We went outside to smoke and I am not sure why the dog didn't come out as she normally would. Well my GFs cat and dog often team up to get food, the cat knocks food off the table to the dog who then shares with the cat. So I assume this is why we had no shrooms left when we came back. Anyways it was a small dose so the dog was fine, but she was definitely tripping with us and acting oddly. She stayed glued to us on the couch and her eyes looked larger. We made an extra effort to keep her comfortable during the trip, and she ended up being fine.

Your vet is an idiot thc ISNT toxic. he is FUCKING obliterated. hes just incredibly high and OFCOURSE the vet is going to tell you something like that. You should ask them to show the study that proves its toxic for dogs because the funny thing is that they have whole entire lines of THC infused products developed for animials and a huge number of dogs specifically are prescribed it for medication from things like hip dysplacia, SIEZURES!, and many other ailments that humans suffer from. Being that your already ordering concentrates is a good indication that your vet isnt going to have any idea what cannabis will do ( im sure a doctor in your area will also tell you how bad cannabis is for you as well) to a dog other then someone like you coming in freaked the fuck out and bringing something in that may look like its dieing but like i said yes they are just high as fuck. They will look like they are falling asleep and then twitch hard looking like a siezure, some will loose their bowels ( thank god mine would just loose her balance and walk around drunk if she could manage to stand up and would tweak out when trying to fall asleep she would scare herself... she learned how much of the bottom branches she could eat or how many coookies and learned her limit.)

They just need it in moderation shit my buddies shitzu is perscibed something like 0.25mg Xanax because its "too nervous".. That gram probably would have had you feeling retarded.. mulitply that by a hundred or so an im sure you would piss yourself as well :)

If anybody bothers to read down this far, here's my take on this. There has not been substantial research that shows whether thc is safe for dogs. It has been confirmed, however, that thc can put dogs in a state of extreme distress. You know you're taking a drug. They don't fucking understand what's happening to them. Weed smoke isn't great for our lungs, but you guys blow it in your dogs faces for them to involuntarily inhale? Dogs aren't your bro. They're more like your child. You got your dog and assumed responsibility for their life. Would you blow smoke in a child's face? No. Don't do it to your dog. They're interested in it because it smells different. Much like food. Notice they'll happily chomp down on some chocolate and that's proven to be bad for dogs.

Bottom line: My dogs mean the world to me. I would NEVER give them a food or substance if it could potentially harm them. I wish more of you felt the same.

hey thanks fer the post man, i had no idea. dogs eat grass so i figured fan leaves was ok fer them if they liked it well i been wrong. my dog is the greatest goes everywhere with me laundrymat, bank, some stores (not places where food is served though) never been on a leash their so well behaved most places are happy to see em an fuss over them. i have health ins. on my dogs but not myself that should say how much i care for them. people suck ur best friend will backstab ya, steal ur women. a rotti is loyal an wants nothing in life but food an to please an protect their owner. i love my dogs more than anything in the world. if they dont like someone you better believe my contact with that person is finished no matter who they are they can kick rocks get the fuck out n away from me. a dog will never lead ya on, they can sense when someone has bad intentions.

Something similar happened to a family friend. We picked up some cookies for him to take back to university with him and his dog got into his back pack and ate 5 or 6 of them. They rushed the dog to the vet who gave the dog charcoal to make the dog vomit but it had been 3-4 hours at that point so she was already trippen pretty hard on some weed cookies. He missed his flight and had to stay an extra few days, not to mention the rath he received from his parents.

Everything turned out alright, including his parents finding out that he smoked but we live in California so he had a medical card anyway

[2 Points] Yeah_Im_A_God:

My pup loved smoking with me in small amounts because he was hit by a car and broke his hip. We would smoke and then go inside and go to bed. Without it he couldn't sleep.

[2 Points] None:

I dont smoke weed and eating that much concentrate would probably have a similar effect on me as a human man.

[2 Points] LittleLeithBoy:

Yeah eating weed is a hell of a lot more than blowing them some smoke. My mates dog Leo is a pure stoner pooch! They love sniffing up the weed smoke, as soon as you pull out a pack of skins for a joint he's jumping all over you as though you had a big bit of steak hidden on you. After a couple of blowbacks he just lies down next to you wanting his ears rubbed lol. Nothing wrong with sharing a small amount of smoke with your dog man.

[2 Points] lord_alphyn:

7g weed per 2kg of dog is the fatal amount of herb for dogs, assuming near instantaneous total consumption of activated cannabis.

I have a small dog and I looked it up - just in case.

[2 Points] TheSorryFeller:

My oldest dog likes the smell of marijuana, and will sit beside me when I smoke. I blow smoke twoarfs because if he doesn't want smoke to affect him he'll move. I know many disagree, but it's just how the homie is.

[2 Points] jakobrockz:

I believe my cat liked thc. Every time I would spark the torch, she would run up to me and start rubbing on my legs. And whenever I blew out the smoke she would instantly run towards it. Pretty much every time like clock work. I found it really weird.

[1 Points] MrSnowmanDNM:

My dog loves eating weed - thankfully she has never gotten into a large amount, however I have to be careful about breaking it up in her reach, she'll eat it right off the tray.

[1 Points] DabsAndMexicanFood:

This is super interesting. Does anyone know of a study or documents proving one way or the other? Dispensaries definitely sell CBD and THC dog treats. I would be curious how this would effect dogs with epilepsy and other issues that can be lessened with marijuana.

[1 Points] schwillynelson89:

thc can cause seizures in dogs? first time i have heard that, good to know if true.

[1 Points] RussIsTrash:

I literally had a 6 hour argument on a facebook post with like 100 people who thought it was okay and acceptable to get their animals high and there are no negative effects. People are fucking dumb. You couldn't help it though just be more careful next time.

[1 Points] Cnels:

My friends golden doodle bit into one of THClears 1000mg tanks and she was extremely high but she loved it, just extreme sleepiness and slower reaction times to things like calling for treats and her name.

[1 Points] rickydn:

My dogs got into my mdma and Xanax stash once. Pretty ridiculous story but they were both ok...

[1 Points] Mercuryburn:

Had this happened vet try to get me to let them do a drug test on my dog they wanted to charge me like $500 to do that and then they said if it came back positive they were going to call the cops on me I just laughed in their face and left

[1 Points] None:

i have 2 pits and one of them ate almost an once of really good bud .. i could tell which one it was cause some lil nugs stuck on his whiskers

[1 Points] Lightmang2:

My cousins dog had bad arthritis and would come up and nudge you when you had the bowl. After 2-3 hits, she would go sit by the steps. Like clockwork

[1 Points] vincentwallace:

weee dont do shit if you eat your body weight in thc, a tylenol couldve killed him

[1 Points] mcafc:

I believe, from observation, that they can have panic attacks from it. Just like humans if they have too much. But in small amounts it can calm them down and you can tell they are happy.

I have a friend who's dogs would regularly steal his weed and would come to the noise of a bong being hit(like begging for food) to get a hit.

[0 Points] percymiles:

I see photos and videos of people blowing smoke onto all sorts of pets--reptiles and mammals. It's absolutely dangerous and frankly people shouldn't be doing any of that sort around pets.
