Facebook now will use PGP keys!

in case you didn't heard http://venturebeat.com/2015/06/01/hands-on-with-facebooks-new-pgp-encryption-features/ So now i guess having a PGP key program at your pc will look less suspicious.

EDIT: Obviously i never said to use the same key to Facebook as at the DNMs. Or to fucking use a key at all.

FB will still have access to the data before they encrypt it, which they could store in plain text before encrypting it.

[18 Points] Not_DEA_trust_me:

Translation: PGP is no longer safe, it can't be if Facebook uses it.

[16 Points] 2008Rays:

Make a new keypair for Facebook.

Is there a risk in giving them the same public key that you use for other stuff?

I suspect this is part of a data-mining project that combines your Facebook network of associates with a network of associates inferred by other people who also have your public key in their possession.

For example --- if Law Enforcement seizes a vendor or darknetmarket customer's computer that has your public key --- they can ask Facebook for information about any account that also has that same public key on file --- as well as any facebook users connected to that account.

I mean really, you could always use PGP on facebook, nothing really stops you from doing so. But facebook itself using PGP is neat.

So it's safe to buy drugs on Facebook now? Awesome!!!!11!!!

[9 Points] None:

It's great to see them implementing this! I read that it's only emails that are encrypted. As in, the emails Facebook sends you will be encrypted, which is great in my opinion!

It's good to see social media stepping up their privacy game, but i'm sure they will always rat on you if you are stupid enough to send any sensitive messages though Facebook.

[7 Points] Trappy_Pandora:

So facebook has a hidden service and now supports PGP?

/r/facebookmarket will soon exist. I wonder how much of a haul their exit scam will bring.

[6 Points] Gandalfus:

Translation: Facebook building database of PGP keys and authentications for cross referencing and info gathering.

[2 Points] None:

They also have an official tor hidden service to access facebook.

meh. this is just another way for fakebook to collect more data on its users to turn over to the gov

[2 Points] PaintTheWorldFuscia:

Facebook will now use PGP keys! That they will directly hand the keys over to LE! They already have made a database specifically for LE to sift through. Don't trust Facebook.

WHY DO I STILL USE FACEBOOK IM SO RETARDED

[1 Points] None:

One more thing to add to your NSA profile, your PGP key. Obviously you should use a different key for different things, but man this is getting ridiculous.

Facebook Fayschebooke

Midday Monday Mundane Madness.

That's all I can say.

[1 Points] ThisIsNotTheEndBreak:

Watch this just be a way to train NSA agents and such to learn how to crack encrypted messages. Could just be paranoid, but its fucking facebook. I wouldn't let anything past Zuckerberg or the NSA.

Here is something scary to try:-

Using something like quickforget (a favorite with us vendors because it doesn't use java), send some text in a quickforget note to a friend via facebook messenger. Set it to expire after 2 views / 48 hours.

https://quickforget.com/

When your friend receives it a second or two later and tries to read the quickforget, it says "sorry, I've already forgotten that secret"

Something / somebody has already read your facebook message twice and has opened the link to read what was written.

I've put my theory in this quickforget note, set to be forgotten after being read 100 times / after 10 days, whichever is soonest
