[PSA Article]Please don't accept claims without evidence and How to evaluate a DNM related claim!

Please considering the following factors whenever you read ANYTHING related to DNM's:

  1. Do they provide ACTUAL evidence for their claims? What is fact and what is speculation?

  2. Is the person (at the very least) established on Reddit or in the community? Is it from Gwe rn, /u/impost_r, and others with an established reputation or is it from a brand new account?

  3. Do their claims pass the sniff test? Are they logical? Does the evidence provided correspond to the claims?

  4. Who could benefit from this "information" being posted?

Please consider ALL of these questions TOGETHER when reading ANY claims relating to DNM's.

It is very easy to see connections that don't exist and to assume truth from confirmation bias alone.

Step back and analyze claims with your OWN brain before accepting them as fact. Even this post.

Perhaps we need a /u/DNMFactChecker or something to help point out claims with no evidence.

The community here does a good enough job debunking all the FUD. 99% of the people posting FUD are either new accounts, or have very little activity here. Everyone should take anything they say with a spoonful or six of salt.

Reddit, judge, jury and executioner. no proof. someone typed it, someone readit and now it is fact.

[2 Points] SWIMstains:

Spot on. The claims here have been laughable, everyone treating these supposed conspiracies as fact right off the bat.

  1. Do they provide ACTUAL evidence for their claims?

Totally agreed. From now on, anyone reviewing a product or vendor should send me some samples so that the claims can be verified.

Seriously tho, very good post.

I'm here!

I think it's good that people are doing their own research and are on the look out for any suspicious activity. What often happens, I think, is folks find one or two things that others haven't found and quickly extrapolate that into a larger story and then post it here.

Instead of posting it here I would suggest people send the facts they found privately to the guys who are good at piecing together a story. When you read the SR1 postings on antilop.cc you can tell that many many hours of research and fact finding went into it, and it reads more like a valid theory with a timeline even if it is still speculative.

So for anyone reading this - it's great that you're doing your own research but to make sure the community benefits from it, please consider sending what you found to one of our more "journalistic" members in private, at least to have a second pair of eyes review it. Worst case - you can always post it later if they don't end up responding to you.
