Differences in MDMA. Moonrocks/Brown Sugar/Tan/White?

FestiGear updated the pictures for his MDMA and said that his new batch is:

The new MDMA batch is more of a brown sugar/moonrock consistency.

What exactly does that mean in terms of quality? Why is there brown sugar molly, tan crystal molly, or like PlatinumStandard's clear crystal MDMA?

I'm no chemist, but have taken college level chem classes, MDMA should crystallize the same way every time, no? Its the same chemicals being synthed together to make MDMA. Why would it turn out different looking?

What kind of molly do you guys prefer? Is one actually better than the other.

I honestly cannot speak to the chemistry involved although through personal research, brown sugar tests higher and is stronger. I put in the man hours figuring that one out.

It's not always made using the same precursors, and you may remember the profusion of side reactions that can take place in organic reactions, and the resulting problems of purification.

I have a strong background in analytical chemistry, with some knowledge of MDMA synthesis.

Since most synthesis is made from safrole oil, obtained from trees. This precursor isn't all that pure to begin with (50-80%?) - sources widely range. Safrole is then oxidised to the main precursor MDP2P. This is then reduced to MDMA using methylamine. All these steps mean a lot of impurities can build up, and anything that is coloured will be quite noticeable. As the chemist crystalises out the MDMA base into the MDMA salt MDMA-HCl, thus anything soluble in this final solvent will add the tan colour we all know. Ideally, chemists should wash/recrystalise their product, but the drive for profit means its faster to make more MDMA than to spend time purifying it. Generally speaking, the lighter the MDMA then the purer it is - if you were to cold acetone wash it then you would probably end up with a white powder.

That said, you should never trust a compound by its colour. Just because it is white does not mean that it is pure - it could just be a RC, or cut heavily with a while filler. If my MDMA is too brown for my liking I give it a wash first. If it then passes my presumptive tests I stash it away for a rainy day. Always had a good roll and the next day doesn't leave me a zombie, with pre/post loading.

Edit: minor grammar

Sounds like festigear is no longer sourcing from interways

I've read on plenty of forums, and even some of my own experience, that would indicate that browner crystals have left over precursor impurities that might even add to the roll, providing a more euphoric stronger high.

I think the only real way to tell what kind of quality crystal you have is with a regent test. If it bubbles and fizzes and turns to purple/black within a few seconds then you probably have some good stuff

Usually the brown is from the Canada and I feel it usually gives me chill house pary roll. The dutch light tan/white which is also what is in most of the pills usually is a more dance your ass off roll.

This is just my personal opinion.

"Brown Sugar" often refers to synthetic heroin.
