Slow Marquis Reaction

I recently purchased some MDMA from a VERY well known vendor and I decided to test it using marquis. The reaction starts off bubbling a little bit but remains colorless. After about 15-20 seconds it becomes a super dark purple/black. Usually when I test M it goes straight to black. Anyone else experience a slow/delayed reaction? Does this mean anything?

Is your reagent old?

that is strange. the time I tested mdma, it fizzled and turned black like instantly.... I'm also curious what the delay in changing color indicates

If you add 2 drops of semen after 10 seconds it should turn yellow. If this happens then you are good to go.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. Picked up some MDMA from Canada that was very good. The reagents turned in 5 seconds like one would expect.

I decided to use store grade acetone (with epsom salt to absorb water in the acetone) and recrystallize with everclear. I rinsed with acetone fine. I screwed up evaporating the acetone on an electric stove top though by getting it too hot and it started smoking. I then turned it off, threw everclear on top and left it in the closet for a couple of days thinking it was ruined. Much to my suprise, the MDMA came out mostly clear/white in big fragile shards with some dark gray MDMA that was sticking to the glass plate.

Everyone said in real life said was very good MDMA. The picture of a MDMA shard even got called meth by everyone on r/mdma.

The same thing happened that you saw, it fizzled and dissolved a bit, but took 10 to 30 seconds to turn purple black over another 10 seconds.

My amateur opinion is that letting the MDMA sit out over a couple of days allowed moisture to collect and formed a hydrated form of MDMA. This hydrated form may have trouble mixing with the reagent.

Did you happen to get "Ultra-pure" MDMA?
