[GeneralQuestions] How did you guys come across DNM's?

Maybe a stupid post, but I'm just wondering, how did you guys/girls discover darknet markets? (markets, not the subreddit)

I learned about the original Silk Road while watching Drugs Inc, the episode with the chick selling MDMA she got from Silk Road, I believe. There was a disclaimer telling about how FBI seized the hidden site, but I thought "hey man, there's probably more than one market like that" and searched it up right away and there it was, instructions on how to access Silk Road 2.0. it was like being a kid in a candy store for the first time.

I google'd "buy cocaine online" when I was really drunk a few years back. Found an article about SilkRoad and started learning

Got a CD because some asshole tried to set me up sending me drugs with no stealth. During interrogation the cops kept saying silk road. So I googled it.

The Gawker article. How has nobody mentioned this yet?

I first found SR like a lot of others - through that original article (Gawker maybe)? I didn't purchase anything just poked around. Then a short time later, there was a big article about the drug trade on Instagram. I went there and poked around a bit but realized that it was useless, 90% scam. No stealth. No PGP. Nothing. These guys were amateurs obviously. Someone commented on a thread on IG suggesting to check this place out and the rest is history. I did a shitload of research and got comfortable enough to start ordering.

What's funny is on that thread where the guy suggested this sub, a bunch of people replied that the DNMs seemed sketchy, so they'd stick around hunting on IG. Funny b/c these people had gotten scammed a number of times. They basically used Paypal or Walmart deposits to transact. Fuck that.

A buddy bought some really good rolls probably 3 years ago I think and I didn't believe that you could get illegal drugs simply by ordering online. He showed me around a bit and it blew my mind. The whole idea of being able to buy whatever you want interested me immensely and still does. I don't purchase anything because I don't enjoy very many drugs anymore and I'm relatively computer illiterate but I enjoy looking at markets and browsing this sub.

I google searched 'buy drugs online' and bam there was the silk road

Met some people that sourced amazing MDMA and Lucy from the original Silk Road. Looked it up and found directions. I was hooked from then on. Still great friends with those people that got me into it all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHzvlDI-uXo - that's the episode I'm talking about. The Silk Road bit starts around 18 minutes in.

I think I read about it on HackerNews.

A friend of mine saw a small one paragraph write up about it in rolling stone when it was still in infancy. I remember the days of buying bitcoin via Bitinstant by the red phone at the cvs. Good times

Reading a news article about Tor, which led me to Grams, then Evo.

Saw a thread about bitcoin on 4chan back in early 2012 and one of the comments in it was about the original SR.

The Silk Road 1 takedown. I saw an article about it that just said something like "Silk Road Taken Down" and thought to myself "Silk Road" was the name for a drug smuggling cartel. I looked up what Silk Road was and thought the idea had a lot of potential.

[1 Points] None:

I had known about silk road but I thought it was only for massive orders and was extremely sketchy and only big time dealers used it and was told it was extremely hard to get onto

Then a few years later I was smoking weed with my friend who showed me the dankest buds I've ever seen. When I asked him where he got this and to give me this guys number, he sent me the link to this subreddit, now we both go half and half on large orders and save tons of money.

[1 Points] HeyRonn:

Back in 2010 before the stupid gawker article I heard about vending drugs on 4 chan. Reading through these replies most people weren't even users of the DNMs before silkroad hit the news.

I was researching about computer security and online anonymity, and eventually I found out about Tor and it's .onion websites, and just researched what kind of sites were actually being hosted on it. Eventually found DNMs.

When I heard about silk road getting seized I was really intrigued about the market so I did research and found SR 2.0. Never bought anything from there but just browsed. Now I'm in college and met this one guy who occasionally bought from DNM'S, specifically Agora, and he showed me the ropes, like introducing me to this sub.
