Tinfoil hat time on Open Bazaar 2.

Okay since there isn't technically an "owner" for Open Bazaar 2, does this mean LE will charge anyone hosting the site as an owner since technically you are helping maintain a criminal enterprise? We all know that LE is not cutting any breaks when it comes to anything to do with markets.

This market seems almost like a nightmare waiting to happen. If it actually gains traction, I'm guessing 95% of the user-base is not going to be equipped to hide themselves from LE and an IP leak is just waiting to happen. Then, any computer found hosting OB2 will basically be like LE finding the server for a centralized market...

LE can arrest you for anything they want to.

The questions get even more complicated when you think aobut the different things that could happen. At the most extreme, there is the question of whether simply hosting a OpenBazaar node or whatever term they use introduces some culpability. Is hosting the program/node where something illegal happened to happen without the operator's knowledge be something that everyone should worry about? If OpenBazaar were used solely or almost always for illegal shit, no question that hosting it can be a mangling experience. But from my understanding OpenBazaar is not built for illegal things but rather its a legitimate platform that those selling illegal things are using. I'm not talking about the "wink wink nod nod" sort of thing some manglefaces sometimes post here about making a market that is "officially" for legal goods but behind the scenes, everyone knows its 99.9999999% used for illegal stuff. There was a post here a month or two ago about a guy saying he thought it would be legal to make a drug market if you just advertise it and make it sound like a legit market. Some people think LE is stupid and a loophole can be exploited to avoid the mangling of your parts. OpenBazaar as far as I know is not like that at all and is truly intended to be a legit marketplace. Craigslist is still around became almost all of its business is legit even though there is drug dealing and prostitution that does happen on it. The feds don't shut down Craigslist because it is a legit platform that happens to be sometimes be used by manglefaces. And Craigslist does make an effort to prevent illegal shit from happening on their platform. This seems like OpenBazaar maybe. A mostly legitimate platform where there will be some illegal activity on. If its even possible, I'd think the only way an "operator" of a node might run into legal trouble is if there were a way for them to ensure within reason that they don't help "host" illegal shit. I don't know anything about OpenBazaar to know if that's even possible. I have heard there are search engine applications that help locate stores. The person who "owns" those search engines might have a responsibility to take down illegal stuff especially when reported. This is a guess, no idea how that works. It might be similar to how third party hosts are held liable for copyright violations that are commited by their users/customers. If you run a service that lets users post content, that service is generally held free of liability if their customer does a copyright violation as long as they respond to takedown requests within reason. Maybe that approach would be taken here.

More than likely, you might see a lot of legal action where LE demands to see logs or data from people who host these nodes and if they don't comply, they might be fucked with. I think there was a TOR node operator who had something like that happen. LE demanded to see his logs or some shit, he refused I think, and they arrested him. I could be wrong entirely, mangleface and all my memory is bad. Not sure if OpenBazaar logs are even useful to LE, but if so, you can bet that this is where people who run the software might run into the most headaches with LE.

you have to leave it on 24/7? or just vendors?

Dude you are talking out of your ass... You can route your OB2 traffic through tor. LE can charge anyone for hosting whatever they want, hell they could find you because i'm guessing you aren't accessing reddit through tor and arrest you too for conspiracy.

I'm guessing 95% of the user-base is not going to be equipped to hide themselves from LE

Hmmm. Do you think this maybe because a good portion of OB2 is focused on legal activities right now???? I'm guessing 95% of people who use it for legal activies don't care to hide their IP. I'm guessing 95% of intelligent people who are using it for illicit activies is doing so properly.

It's legit like saying "95% of reddit users aren't equipped to hide themselves from LE" Like no shit sherlock.

[3 Points] jaspmf:

If that was the case wouldn't everyone running a tor node be currently rotting in jail because cheese pizza, drugs and hit men for hire?

Tor exit node owners get served subpoenas, they basically respond with "I'm an exit node so I don't know shit." What's the difference between that and running an OB2 node in terms of the law?

This is total nonsense. When you get a DMCA letter from your ISP do they charge you with running pirate bay? No.

Go read about how the technology works before making assumptions.

"This market seems almost like a nightmare waiting to happen."

It's not a "market" it's a network. Learn the difference.

" If it actually gains traction, I'm guessing 95% of the user-base is not going to be equipped to hide themselves from LE and an IP leak is just waiting to happen. "

Not if they know how to read and follow the very simple instructions for setting up whonix and OB2 found here: /r/DarkBazaar/comments/7bh627/beginners_guide/

You have no cause or justification for stating any of that. Again, this is solely due to your ignorance about the technology being employed.

"Then, any computer found hosting OB2 will basically be like LE finding the server for a centralized market..."

Um, No. This is total BS. OB2 is not illegal, and it's shared hosting, that's why if a vendor goes offline and stops hosting his/her store it stays online.

Your whole post is fud, and is a great example of someone who has zero comprehension of what they are actually talking about.

RTFM.

wasnt OB actually direct deals? if so, any deal made there could result in a CD for sure. (or a burned drop, like it could be possible dealing on any market, the difference right now is, there is no escrow)

id keep away from that dragnet

[1 Points] 90210BitchTits:

What would LE do if they seized a customers computer that LE can't already do themselves? They could just take that computer offline and somebody else would take over that computers originally place.

[1 Points] Xavhorn:

What if you host it on a VPS paid for with tumbled bitcoin?

You lot are funny. It's like the penny wants to drop but you all keep grabbing at it and knocking it in the air again. it'll drop though no worries.
