Bitbay appeared out of nowhere on the super-list, no idea how it got there either.

Most of the listings have hourly updated new reviews http://i.imgur.com/2Mnio36.jpg.

The "market" seems to be a scam and there is no way the admin of Bitbay isn't in on this/responsible.

Second Edit: Another one just in case http://i.imgur.com/emXshEM.jpg.

Sorry about this /u/Theeconomist1 but we deserve an explanation as to why you added this market on the wiki.

The admin/staff also mentions "the mods tested it out" http://i.imgur.com/mAeNHXP.png.

Aight so this sucks, let's talk.

I want to talk about how this happened, and what we are, as moderators here on this subreddit. Or maybe I should say, what we aren't. For instance, we definitely are not any kind of authority on what is or isn't a scam, or is or isn't legit. Literally all we do is manage a discussion board, a place where conversation - created by other people (that's you!) and occasionally us too, basically as equals, can happen. Job one is keeping the reddit admins off our backs (that's why we're so obnoxious about the no sourcing stuff - sorry y'all). Job two is keeping the discussion relevant, civil, and just generally non-shitty. We pretty much don't have a job three.

The DNMs have exploded in the last couple of years. We all know this. The superlist now has literally dozens of entries. I have a huge amount of respect for /u/Satoshi- but I do think it's relevant to mention that it's a whole new kind of game these days. We literally get a new market/service announcement inquiry in the modmail about once every week or two, now. There are scams on the darknet now that people hadn't even thought of doing two years ago, and they're exploding, as well.

We just don't have the time or the money to actually become patrons of every single market or service that comes up. We just don't. We're already struggling to keep up with the sub's most basic moderation needs as it is (interesting fact: we have to manually review literally every single post on this subreddit, in order to keep doxx, reddit ToS violations, sourcing, etc. at bay. It's a constant onslaught of that crap, here. Moderating this subreddit is way, way more work than probably almost any other on this site, because we walk such a fine line with the law, with reddit, and with the ridiculous drama addicts that inhabit this scene).

Could we have done better in the case of this BitBay bullshit? Definitely. We should've actually looked hard at those listings, and we would've spotted this ourselves. And I think we'll be doing that in the future. But the fact remains that that still isn't our job. Our job is keeping a discussion board working. We rely on the community to spot scams, and we work to make sure that info about those scams gets seen well in these discussions. That's where our role lies. And that's what the message at the start of the superlist is all about:

This is a list of all currently known, operating markets and tumblers. If you feel a market is missing or should be removed, please message us here explaining why. All markets listed should not be taken as endorsements or confirmation by the moderators that a market is trusted. Always confirm links before you use them.

I mean, if that isn't clear, I don't know what is. We're not your babysitters. We're not here to spoonfeed you sanitized, "approved" services (by the way, down that path lies corruption and real mod-level shilling, which I am extremely proud to say we haven't really had a problem with at all on this sub - knocks wood). And if we were here to baby you all like that, it would literally double or triple our workload, when in my own estimate we really need to like double our output as is just to make this work sustainable and keep the sub running smoothly, which in my opinion it has not been, lately. Right now we're working overtime - not me, though... I've been a slacker lately due to other shit I've got going on, and that's part of the problem for my fellow mods. I know it seems like this place runs just fine, but there's really a lot of time that goes into it, and it's incredibly easy for us to fall behind. It's legitimately stressful. Not to mention the people that love to yell at us the whole time through, in modmail and elsewhere. It's a pretty grim kinda work.

If someone wants to find us another dozen mods who are trustworthy, competent, smart, reasonable, not corrupt, and known in this community, plus donate a couple bitcoins to some superlist listing withdrawal test fund, then I would be thrilled to have 'em. That would honestly kick ass. But those are things we just don't have, at the moment, and this community is growing every day, and the volume of responsibilities for our team grows with it. So just by necessity, we have to outsource whatever we can to you guys - the community. And that means that posts like this are incredibly important, here - that's y'all's work - and it also does not mean that we haven't done our jobs - it means that you guys have. And that's awesome. So keep it up, and we'll keep doing what we can to make this place work better for everyone. But we all have a part to play in that.

From what I can see these vendors are SR1/SR2 remnants (data scraped from SR). I know, because I was around in those days and I remember the vendors. Look at "PaulReubens" and "Utopic"... Quickly glancing at Utopic's profile I can see that the dates of the reviews are doctored but the actual content is not "Based on the reviews I've read I decided to make my first purchase on SR with this vendor. I wasn't disappointed! Great product, great price and Professional service. Great vendor ;-) "

[7 Points] Theeconomist1:

I'm getting up to speed on what's going on. In the meantime, the SuperList is not an endorsement of a market from any mod or this sub. There is a very basic and pretty simple list of requirements to be listed.

That's what is required to be listed in the super list.

Here is a snippet from the same super list:

All markets listed should not be taken as endorsements or confirmation by the moderators that a market is trusted.

BitBay met the basic requirements to be listed on the Super List. I don't know how much clearer we can make it that the markets listed are NOT endorsed nor even recommended by any of hte mods here. They are here for reference. We rely on the community to ferret out bad actors.

That being said, if there is a problem with this market, that will be addressed. I'm barely looking at the post for better context on what is going on.

[6 Points] Kazaa99:

Who the hell let this site keep being listed on the Market superlist??

Just signed up with a simple user to check it out, and found several old vendors I have purchased from on SR2. And what do we have in the profile description?? A nice statement saying what to do if SR2 is offline... And nice try to change the word silkroad to greenroad in all vendors description, but you forgot the SR2.

You f*cking scammers, not only do people have to deal with exit scams and scamming vendors, and then you just want to scam more people.

If this site isn't moved to the scam list ASAP, then this sub's mods are responsible for innocent people losing money by trusting the subs superlist!!

[6 Points] dvrknvt:

This does seem a bit sketch.

[6 Points] dnmnubbin:

it looks like TheEconomist1 added it to the list right?

[6 Points] None:

This is a hilarious piece of shit lmao

But seriously, why was it added to the Superlist?

[6 Points] None:

moderate much? you're a fucking moderator who needs to moderate your comments and the communities. By putting it on the list you "commented" to its usefulness. You aren't doing your job moderating yourself and we expect you to accuratrly moderate the community? Yeah. no "cop-outs" please. wait next time. don't be so hasty.

[3 Points] yetshi:

from bitbay-teams writing style and grammar he/she/it seems to be a non english speaker, its more like aliexpress style engrish.

looks like china has finally gotten into creating scam markets.

so solly cholly, try your scam elsewhere.

as for why its on the superlist ask the mods how much it cost to bribe your way onto there.

[2 Points] None:

Wow! Fuck that site

[2 Points] Lucyintehsky:

Holy shit this market was outed fast! :D havent seen sukey around for years. Go fuck yourself bitbay.

All the admin keeps saying is "try the market for yourself" wich would include anyone transfering coins there and getting them stolen :D

[2 Points] Danksalmon:

lol blatenty SR1 scrape. Sukey is not vending anymore but they are magically on bitbay?

[2 Points] -dare:

And you guys forgot to change the name of the about page on the markets .onion/bitbay/about/

[2 Points] DarkKnight_1111:

Wait, there is no PGP on BitBay? Please dont tell me people are actually using this "market" Its like asking to be robbed and maybe even worse arrested.

[2 Points] None:

What if it's a honeypot!?!

[2 Points] knectthedots:

So, Bungee54 is on this market. Seems legit.

[1 Points] Kazaa99:

Have anyone noticed how idiotic and terrible the captcha work? Exactly like the real SR2, LOL... Was the source code leaked somehow in the 2-3 times it was hacked??

[1 Points] Kazaa99:

A couple of funny things on this "marketplace" I would like to hear the bitbay teams answers to.

Why were all vendors last online 1 day and 21 hours ago or 21 hours ago, but in their vendor description they have #latest update 21-01-2014 (or any other date in 2013/2014)

Why do every vendor have 10 reviews from today, and number of transactions above 10.000 at least? Are you millionaires since the number of sales must be way above several millions from which you get 3%

Here is a link to a product from a vendor profile (LOL, you sure are amateurs, notice the silkroad to greenroad string replace):

"Also take a look to my thread at the forums! http://greenroad5v7dywlc dot onion /index.php?topic=3717.msg153937#msg153937"

[1 Points] MT_Merchant_Mangler:

I think it's adorable the little disclaimer the vendor has about how you agree that you're not "A LEO, postal inspector or acting in anyway in conjunction with a criminal investigation...etc."

As if that means jack fucking shit. Kek.
