Possible the "Darkphone" could help DarkNetMarket users?

"...a tweaked and hardened version of Android; - frequent over-the-top security updates that are not held back by carrier bottlenecks - Silent Phone and Silent Text for secure - encrypted telephony and messaging - a remote wipe feature for contact data - user prompts to switch on local data encryption - plus a bundle of third party security-focused services to further expand the feature set -- including SpiderOak secure cloud storage, VPN anonymised browsing via Disconnect, and Kismet's Wi-Fi analyser product."

secure

I don't trust it. Not to mention the price vs the garbage hardware.

[5 Points] OnePugtoRuleThemAll:

Does that mean even the carrier can't read your text messages? That would be pretty fucking rad.

It'd be cheaper (ie you wouldn't have to pay so much for sub-par hardware and then a $100 per year subscription to blackphone on top of that) if you just run a custom ROM, don't install gapps (so no play store, instead use F-Droid and/or sideloading of apks or another third party market), use a privacy manager to block apps from sending unwanted information, use TextSecure and Redphone for encrypted SMS and calling (the person on the other end will need those, too, but they're free) and use a VPN for good measure. Orweb & Orbot for Tor. I keep a nandroid backup of something along those lines encrypted on my phone just in case. (Avoid using actual cell radio for anything you want to keep secure. Not sure what Blackphone's answer to that is, but I'm sure there's a way to do it without paying so much for underwhelming crap.) For cloud storage, you could just encrypt everything you send to OwnCloud and keep it under control yourself instead of relying on someone else. Also, there are at least two privacy oriented ROMs in the works. One from the creators of TAILS, one called Guardian OS, but that one seems to have gone nowhere. Hopefully someone picks it up.

from what I read it is all apps you can put on any phone they just come pre-installed on this one.

So I can sell drugs through my main phone without any worries? I mean, if I bought this.

I thought this was gonna be an awesome plan, but it only works to other people that have "BlackPhones" so unless all your friends are getting one too its kinda ehh :/

Great idea, poor application. I am still a fan though because at least somebody is making waves in the privacy department.

[1 Points] Einsteins_Lovechild:

It's a great concept but the Snowden docs have pretty much proven with 100% certainty that the NSA/Feds require backdoors to be implemented in any "military level encryption" (what does that even mean? Not easily defeated by an attacker? That's the fucking point of encryption!). They aren't just strongarming U.S. companies (cough cough Skype/Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, and of course now Lavabit and TrueCrypt), any country the U.S. is "friendly with" has their companies bending to their will. It's like a perverse new mafia where instead of extracting bribes from Italian restuaurants they require products to be intentionally sabotaged. Just make them an offer they can't refuse.

Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing!

[1 Points] galaxyandspace:

notice they say "privacy", not anonymity. big difference

Phones are inherently insecure devices. End of story.

If you want an an anon phone/tablet, you are going to have to buy, take out parts, and customize it yourself.
