Towards the beginning of this past week I placed a fairly small order with a vendor. This vendor is known for their fast shipping and the package went out the same day I ordered (Tuesday) via USPS priority mail. This vendor is not to far from me so if everything went smoothly I should have expected this package within two days of it being shipped.
The package processed and departed through the USPS sort facility and was in transit. It then made another stop to a city on the way towards my location, departed and processed, but then went back to the city where it started from. (Now I am not too concerned with this because, although I don't believe I have ever experienced it myself, I have read of this kind of thing happening from time to time.)
Here is my concern. After the package went back to its starting point it was then sent to my city, and eventually was marked as "Out for Delivery" this past weekend (Saturday). Later that day, around noon, the tracking updated again saying it was processed through the sort facility at the same location where it went out for delivery. I never received the package, and I was around all day. Later that night the tracking updated again with "Delivery status not updated".
Now in all my years of having packages delivered to me, no matter what the contents are, I have never experienced this. Maybe I have been coming across to many paranoia and CD stories, and it is causing me to think much into this. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this, and if so please share.
UPDATE: The package arrived safely today all in order.
USPS could have just messed up, but to stay on the side of caution, when you get the package, let it sit around for a few days before opening it. You can't get in trouble for having a package sent to you without knowing the contents, so if they were going to raid you, if it's not open, you can't get in trouble. Just deny everything and say you don't know what's in it.
