MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The keen-eyed Customs and Border Protection officers at Miami International Airport seized 100 pounds of pot hidden inside large fiberglass decorative boxes.
CBP officers said they made the find on July 28th, when they selected wooden crates - shipped from Mexico to an address in the Midwest - for examination. Inside the crates were six large fiberglass decorative boxes.
Agents said upon further inspection, the boxes had false shelf enclosure. When they removed the shelf, authorities found six brick-shaped packages wrapped in plastic with a green leafy substance inside. The substances tested positive for marijuana.
"We are very proud of our CBP officers for going the extra mile every day," said Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher Maston. "This seizure is a great example of their commitment to keeping dangerous, illegal drugs out of the United States."
Customs turned it over the marijuana to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations.
This came from Mexico. If you are importing weed into the US then you deserve to go to jail.
Another 6 pound package of weed was found between yesterday and today at the Miami International Airport. No articles for this case have been released yet.
I'm not entirely sure how competent customs are but it only shows that decoys can be seen through. They probably saw something unusual through the x-ray machine. Coming from a high profile country probably did not help either and they possibly put out this article to scare people. Try to stay domestic and if it's an exotic item please order a low quantity.
Saving lives. Good work.
