I was diagnosed with mild to moderate ADD as a kid. Never put on medication because my parents wouldn't allow it. I'm in my 30s and have brought it up to my doctor and while he's happy to throw antidepressents my way he hesitates to address my adult ADD concerns.
Enter modafinil. Actually armodafinil, at first. Once I saw the benefits I just ordered some modafinil via the clearnet. I never dose much, usually 25mg is enough to get me through the morning and most of the day at my job without too much difficulty sleeping.
I'm a software engineer and while I'm semi-successful my ADD has always been a big challenge. I deal with a number of ways, including lots of caffiene, taking notes, various organizational techniques like GTD, Pomodoro, etc. Modafinil, I feel, makes me live up to my potential, or at least close to it.
I'm wary of getting too attached so I break the 200mg tablets up and take between 25-50 mg a day, and only a couple of days a week, when I feel I'm going to need it. Never on the weekends. If I dose later in the day I have trouble sleeping. I have trouble sleeping regardless, but it doesn't help.
tl;dr A+++ would dose again

How do you like to use it? Productivity/recreationally?

Armodafinil works better for me, sometimes I got headaches on normal modafinil. Taken within an hour of getting up it ensures that I spend the day wakeful and alert, and I never had issues getting to sleep at night.
Still use occasionally but mainly used to sort my sleep patterns out, and I keep some on hand just in case.

I bought a 40 pack some time ago and I've been using it on and off, ask away.
Get the FAQ out of the way first:
Does it work? Eh... yeah, but not like I'd hoped. It's incredibly subtle and you do build tolerance. The first days you are pretty focused and really have got a flow. Again, you need to be studying/working on something specific or it won't work. It's not like you take a pill and suddenly the books are open. It will not change your shitty study habits. I repeat that: if you are a poor student in sense of discipline, Modafinil will not help. I guess that goes for the classic study aides as well though
When you are studying, you just don't think about FB or doing other things as much. They all seem less important/less attractive than usual. You also get a bit of a "good feeling" for when you notice the flow is starting to stick, but it is very subtle. If you are used to amphetamine or ritalin or whatever, I can imagine you won't feel shit. That said, there are some "Adderall addicts" out there who switched to Moda and it worked for them.
All that said: this effect disappears within a few weeks when taking it 5-6 times per week. Worked much better when I only took it 2-3 times per week, but it's exams so I need it.
You are less tired. There is no yawning or 14;00 after-lunch-dip. You will feel supertired when it does wear off. Sometimes you will have trouble to fall asleep. Half-life is 15h, so take it as early as possible. Read another guy started taking benzo's to fall asleep. Of course you should not do that. Take it earlier, or lower your dose or don't take it at all. Don't do benzo's. That's an agreement that I made with myself before I started: if I have insomnia or can't fall asleep until 2am I either deal with that or stop, but never a benzo.
All that said: this is for me. I believe it helps me, but it helps other people 500% more. The effects are so subtle I'm thinking a big part of it is placebo. A lot of people report this fucking lazer focus and I never got that. It's just a "wakefulness agent" for me like described. I don't get tired easily and it's easier to focus for 3h, where usually after an hour I get bored or distracted.
Oh and I feel tired if I take it for a week and then stop. The next day is spent yawning constantly.
Some people need 200mg, some people need 100mg. Some people have more benefit from a lower dose. I don't know how the fuck this works, but a lot of people feel much more effect at 50 or 100mg. Try it out for yourself.
Start with 50, then 100, then 200 and see what works.
If you get skin rashes, stop immediately. Look up SJS. I now have a little chest pain a few hours per day so I'm glad my exams are almost over. Definitely the moda, cause when I don't take it, I don't get it. Never before in my life had chest pain either and otherwise in good health/shape.
So there you have it, ask anything I didn't cover.
