How do we know Open Bazaar isn't a Trap?

I'm no programmer, so please don't hate. But this is my line of reasoning:

  1. feds DDoS attack all major darknet markets.

  2. vendors look for a new platform

  3. vendors download software (trojan?)

  4. feds swoop in and arrest vedors.

I know no one will read this comment, but this is the point of open-source. Unlike Alphabay or TradeRoute, OpenBazaar has it's entire source code freely available to anyone who wants to review it or compile it from source. This project has been in the works for a long time (and even considered "dead" for a short while). OpenBazaar can never be "seized" because it's spread over thousands of computers. No one shills for it because nobody owns it. There are no "owners" to profit from it. There will never be an exit scam and it is resilient to DDOS.

[30 Points] CaliforniaJugg:

I thought it was completely open source thus giving people the ability to check for said trojans

[10 Points] OnionJuiceUK:

Your opsec should be at a level where you could use a market run by LE for vendors you know/trust and not even have to worry.

It's all open source, how safe it is depends on what measures you take, nobody is going to babysit or hold people's hands like on the markets.

Plenty of low hanging fruit will just use it on Windows without TOR.

[11 Points] AllahGeneralAkbar:

Its a trap!

[3 Points] TradingRealGfForRsGf:

It ain't a trap yet, but when those vendors get one it will be, ayyyyyy

Is Open Bazaar the future of Marketplaces?

[1 Points] VendorBabaha:

Open-source does not mean nothing, how many of you understand code and can find something wrong with code? It's not couple of files with code, there is a lot of code, analyzing all that code takes a lot of time, mostly only paid code auditors are doing that, but even then, they are not gods, they don't know all exploits. I like planetexpre55 idea, it looks like to be true. A lot of spamming about OB in last days, markets being ddoset, a lot of fakes spamming that OB is best of the best. LOL, why somebody will spamming that OB is so cool, come all to OB, i just set-up my store, without giving any links to store. Feds are dumb.

Funny how some people (not you) would run Windows without blinking an eye but don't trust OSS.

It's open source. You can look at the code before you compile & run it. If you don't like what's in the code, then don't run it.

The uninformed must improve their deficit, or die...

[0 Points] divinesnake:

In addition to what everyone else has said, OB has been on our radar for years. It's not some new thing that pops up out of the blue. Not that that makes it impossible, but rather quite unlikely.

Oh, and um, yea.

[0 Points] R245SA:

Yea OB2 must be a trap because how many vendors were arrested because of the big Hansa/Alpha Bay trap??

They have some great traps...

[0 Points] VagineConnoisseur:

its open source retard

[-2 Points] abu7:

Anything that involves downloading something sounds sketchy in this dark world, combine that with illegal activities, could potentially be dangerous.

I would suggest observe, wait and watch..

[-1 Points] ForLol_Serious:

you have to download and install software to use it wtf?
