Is it really 'wrong' to use heroin?

Lets say, for example, one uses heroin non-intravenously and in controlled doses, in order to treat his depression and social anxiety, is it really "wrong"?

There is so much negative connotation on heroin that the moment someone hears the word 'heroin', all they think about is criminal, dying drug addict, junky, dirty homeless jobless man or a prostitute, who needs help.

Then if LE hears the word they just want to bust down the door to arrest the hardcore criminal. WTH, lets say one is just using it responsibly for health purpose without commiting crimes of hurting anyone, do you think the law can be lenient before labelling it as an offence to even use heroin?

[34 Points] LedLevee:

It's not inherently wrong to use heroin. It's just an incredibly addictive substance in comparison to other substances (weed/lsd/mdma etc.). It's physically addictive and if you have issues in your life it can definitely be psychologically addictive as well.

So it's not "wrong" to use it, it's just easy to spiral down to a path of tolerance and increased doses & frequency. Nobody's stronger than addiction.

[15 Points] chbudstub:

Unequivocally, yes. No one would ever self administer or recreationally use heroin if they truly knew the depths of heroin addiction. And that's just the sadness of the matter, you simply cannot know it.

It would be like someone saying 'is it bad to shoot myself in the head with a shotgun?' with zero understanding or comprehension of mortality (or pain for that matter). That's literally the exact same thing when someone says 'Is it okay to do heroin?'.

If only there was like some sort of powder you could snort and feel what a heavy heroin withdrawal felt like for 30 seconds. You shit yourself uncontrollably, you puke anything you drink or eat within seconds, if you stand up or do any sort of physical activity, you black out, your dick feels like some unattached tube to your body that's extremely sensitive and uncomfortable and you just jizz yourself uncontrollaby (no, it really doesn't feel good to have came 10 times in 10 minutes just rolling around in bed due to the pain).

And the pain, your whole body aches in strange, deep spots that you can never satisfy, you yawn so uncontrollably that you pretty much are crying non-stop, the depression is so heavy and hard that any sort of positive, or negative, thought, song, person, memory, that comes by you, sends you in unstoppable spiral like a plane that has stalled and is now tailspinning towards the ground with zero control and you just cry, cry, and cry some more and reach around for a handgun that you just don't have in your reach at the moment because you are locked up (oh wait, many, I would even hesitate and say maybe even most, suicides are because they were individuals who COULD reach the handgun or edge of a building and related to drug addiction).

It is truly the worst pain you can imagine, I've had some traumatic pains and injuries. I'd gladly take getting my arm chopped off than go through opiate withdrawal again. The rub is that opiates can make you a sex god if dosed just right, but I'm so off opiates that I can tell you no girl's pussy out there is good enough for me to ever touch opiates again (besides I can fuck pretty awesome sober, and there are plenty of 'fuck like a king' drugs like DMT, coke, K, alcohol, when dosed properly).

What goes up, must come down. With LSD, hey, it's insomnia. With weed, I don't even know, besides the smoking aspect, maybe the lack of motivation? But a high like heroin is so high, it will take you down so low.

There's no such thing as 'responsibly' using heroin, or as we call it in the industry, 'chipping'. I chipped for almost a decade, but see the thing is, you'll never run into a chipper who never got full blown addicted and had to hit rock bottom.

Every time you use heroin you are playing russian roulette, and let's say you try to be a successful 'chipper'. You keep playing that game, one day, a storm of circumstances will occur that push you to 'addict'. Combine a personal tragedy, with suddenly a new awesome connect (because as a chipper, you're always on the lookout for a better connect), and a few more ingredients like a bad breakup, and bam, you're on the same train as everyone else.

Don't do opiates. They are death. Do happy drugs man, like psychedelics or empathogens. Fuck man, I'd even say do some cocaine or ketamine if you are seriously considering opiates.

TLDR: No one would ever recreationally use opiates if they knew what addiction and withdrawal is like, and no one can ever fathom what they are like until it's too late. You will NEVER meet a now-clean heroin addict who says 'Yea, try it out'. EVER.

You truly are completely and 100% ignorant of how bad withdrawal is, until you're knee deep in it. That's the tragedy of heroin, you only know how bad it is when you're putting cold steel in your mouth. That's when you go 'Gee, I shouldn't have done heroin. Perhaps I should've coped with personal issues and trauma in my life another way'.

No one has ever successfully 'chipped' at heroin (plenty of people have used it once or twice with 'that' friend, and walked away just fine). Everyone hits rock bottom on heroin, it's just a matter of time.

There's a reason no's such thing as a heroin party. Oh wait, there is, it's called a shooting gallery in the projects where everyone is sharing needles and broke and destitute. Have fun!

[15 Points] fuckintristan:

Heroin might make you happy temporarily but once you begin to really like it, you will regret it's absence. And that will only be the beginning of the misery it causes you. Which will obviously make your depression exponentially worse. So no, there is no possible way to use heroin to treat depression, social anxiety, or anything else.

I have a feeling that you might be young. This is the exact reason why I started doing drugs and why I ultimately became an addict. If you would just take my word for this you would save yourself immeasurable misery.

[10 Points] dudeeitsdamon:

I think you should be able to put whatever in your body as long as its not harming anyone else. If someone wants to shoot up 12 grams of H a day why should I stop them as long as they haven't harmed or done anything to harm another person

[8 Points] toomuchcrownroyal:

heroin has a stigma because its powerful; it scares people. i think pretty much anything as powerful as drugs/pussy/gambling u name it is gonna get a bad rep from someone.

i think it mainly has to do with the fear of something so powerful. opium wars in china u name it.

heroin scares me a little bit extra though because of the idea of getting as close to dying as possible for the best high.

[4 Points] None:

Yes, but not because its heroin, but because we dont know what it is. Very very few people test heroin before they use it. So most heroin users IV, that means they are injecting what is basically a mystery into their veins. Sure some of it will be heroin. What the rest is, is anybodies guess. I prefer to just use pills, but even then they can easily be faked and pressed too. The only thing wrong with heroin is that the US government has not yet started acting like an adult and regulating and controlling the drug trade.

[3 Points] None:

Heroin is unfairly stigmatized. Doing heroin is no more wrong than being prescribed way to much oxycontin and taking it to treat your pain. In fact, they are both extremely similar drugs with very similar effects both derived in one way or another from the same flowers.

Heroin is also a highly addictive drug that is the path straight to hell, and the same goes for all opiates. Please dont become an addict.

That said, addiction happens because life sucks. People who enjoy life don't become hopeless addicts who cant quit. Only people who are sick of society do that.

Meth also has an unfair stigma. There's a goddamn meth diet pill available by prescription for gods sake. It's called Desoxyn: http://www.rxlist.com/desoxyn-drug.htm

And how come when I think of crack I think of a few poor black people stealing electronics to pawn to get a rock and smoke it behind or in an abandoned gas station, but when I think of cocaine I think of rich mafia dudes in $1000 suits in a corner in a fancy bar snortin lines with $100 bills?

[3 Points] Babalugats:

Only if people love you.

[3 Points] None:

I don't think using any drug is 'wrong'. I believe everyone has the right to put whatever they want inside their body. If you want to do any drug and it isn't harming anybody, go for it.

However, what I believe is wrong is what some people do ON drugs and what some users do to GET drugs.

Its wrong to:

[2 Points] octomarvel:

It's not that any drug is wrong.

It's the users.

Learning the difference between drug use and drug abuse is the key.

It's something that both society and the government has a hard time figuring out.

I'm sure I would be vilified by police if I was found with a bundle of smack but cheered on if I ate a million donuts. Demonisation of drugs is a bitch.

=,(

[2 Points] whitedustallday:

Everything is wrong for somebody

[2 Points] box672:

Lets say someone uses heroin intraveinously and in controlled doses, for recreational purposes, is it really wrong?

[2 Points] Metsubo:

I'd say it's bad because out sets you up with an unrealistic expectation of normalcy. The feelings you get from heroin, if I've been informed correctly, are absolutely unobtainable through normal existence. Hence chasing the Dragon.

[2 Points] None:

I want to live in a world where both heroin & Meth are treated with respect......Oh yeah, FUCK the war on drugs, fuck the DEA, fuck both Republicans & Democrats!!!! Vote Libertarian in 2016 :-)

[2 Points] fullofit22:

"wrong" is a simple matter of perspective.

There is nothing inherently wrong in the action itself.

But I would say, it's a "wrong" method to treat those issues.

Heroin, might relieve some of those problems in the short term, but will create new problems, and make the original problems even worse.

Using heroin as a treatment for depression will lead to physical addiction, which will make the depression and anxiety worse off in the long run. So it's wrong to use heroin to treat depression in the sense that it's a bad treatment for that condition. Just like it's wrong to use gasoline to put out a fire.

Heroin as an anti-depressant will leave you with a heroin addiction to deal with which will make the depression worse.

[2 Points] donjuan75:

the stereotypical junkie is the street face of heroin, heroin is a far bigger beast spread all through society. The case is some ones wrong is always a right and Vice versa, there are so many shades of gray that makes it wrong to think of wrong and right.

[2 Points] sillysally11:

As a former heroin addict(and still not far from going back tbh), I say your better off dealing with your issues on your own. Try to do it without heroin.

[1 Points] None:

There is no universal right or wrong. I wouldn't even consider a junkie being in the wrong, just a fucking dumbass. But if we are asking questions, why don't we start at the part where most of the US heroin comes from Afghanistan and is a big income source for the Taliban? Do you think treating depression and social anxiety by indirectly funding terrorism is right?

[1 Points] None:

Ketamine/MXE (haven't done other dissos) has always been my go to super relaxant type drug; for social events in particular, it's my 'roll'. Especially when using it the way you mention heroin use. But hell, we have K addicts out there too. The first time I ever saw an owsley buckle in real life was a guy wearing it that honked a 7 gram line of k. And he continued to get up, go to his computer, turn on some music and dance on his tippy toes. Came outside about an hour later and bummed a cigarette from me. I just can't begin to imagine what all that guy has done on top of what I've been told that he's done. A little ridiculous maybe, but fascinating none the less.

Honestly, my theory on heroin abuse and why it can ultimately drag people down is because it is so powerful. Not that it can almost kill you powerful, but just that the mentality of being 'chill' can eventually lead to other habits. In particular, ego problems. And I only classify this to serious novice users even; the general bulk of these users most of the time. It really is just a matter of confusion. But if you ask me, I say just move on to things that have similar and/or better success rates. Not drugs mind you. Self medicating feels great, but it opens up a window to catastrophic failure very easily. Riding on the wings of slim luck and chance are just, ignorant IMHO.

But yea, honestly, I see most rediculous shit happen from users that catalyze their drug use before their first trial. I never knew or could even begin to phathom was ketamine would be like. I was told "its like a line of powdered drunk" (mind you, not alcohol, just 'drunk'). So I never had a preconceived thought on how fucked up I was about to actually get. In turn, I love it and respect it just as equally as do the other drugs that I never could imagine how they would be and those catalyzed ideas when first trying them. Hell, out of anything, cigarettes and pot are the most abused things I've ever used long term (so far for all I know). I blame my foresight of weed making you 'lazy and dumb' causing me to smoke it like it's going out of style (not to mention it just tastes damn good now). And actually ended up finding really intelligent thought capabilities on this herbal plant. I've smoked raw opium (on top of weed) at a festival and thought "you know, I might like this, but not in a huge social gathering like this; not while it's hotter than the devils dick either".

[1 Points] AmazinPride:

they prescribe actual heroin now, in a test trial, in Van

anyone can go to insite and shoot up with nurses there and clean supplies.

[1 Points] shadowofashadow:

It's your body, you get to decide. There is nothing inherently wrong with opiates, doctors in describe then, hospitals use them. They are like any tool, used in ways the user decides.

[1 Points] thatoneguymla:

Coming from an IV heroin addict. I'm not physically addicted anymore, but I have been numerous times. I think as long as you are an incredibly strong willed person you can manage this drug.
There is nothing wrong with doing heroin or chipping per say. Heroin is just like any other pain killer it's an opiate. However you can make it a problem.

Do not play with needles unless you are prepared to be possibly playing with fire.

[1 Points] coffeencreme:

It depends on your definition of wrong. If you mean in the moral sense then no, I don't believe it is an more wrong than it is wrong to use any class A drug, you are an adult choosing what to put into your own body. So no, I don't think it's wrong.

What it is, is dangerous. And I don't mean in the 'You might DIE' sense that those drugs awareness campaigns when we were kids told us. I mean in the sense of you are likely to get addicted. Opiates are on a different level. One you take an opiate once, you will never forget how it made you feel.

Now I'm not saying it's not possible to try heroin once and never do it again. But they chances of being able to do that are minute. You won't know if you have an addictive personality until it creeps up on you. And addiction crosses all boundaries.

I agree that the sterotype is of a dirty junkie with a dirty crackwhore girlfriend turning $20 tricks and it's not true - there are also many functioning addicts who hold down houses, jobs, pay their bills and pay their taxes. It's just that again, you won't know if this will be you until you are already there.

So I don't believe it's wrong, I believe it's dangerous because of the massive addiction potential and the chances of you coming out of it without a catastrophic addiction. It's just too much of a roll of the dice.

[1 Points] Paullrevere:

Its not wrong imo , its wrong to give it to someone the first time but ofc its not wrong , its your body and brain and mind so it up to u what u wanna take / pushing it to someone who is unaware how much devastation it can cause a person is wrong though. Needles or foil if its you taking it then it is your choice , not right not wrong but just a thing u do to yourself

[1 Points] GandalfTheEnt:

Heroin will help you forget your depression and anxiety, while high.

Once it wears off your depression and anxiety will seem worse in contrast.

Heroin use also developes a tolerance fairly quickly. After a while you're going to feel like shit when you haven't used in a while and the same dose just won't do it for you.

The only way to overcome depression and anxiety is hard work. I'm a pretty anxious person and am often overwhelmed by the flood of negative thoughts and self judgement, especially in crowd or when I'm the center of attention. Over the years its gotten better because I force myself into situations that make me uncomfortable, rather than avoid them.

Set some long and short term goals for yourself, eat right, exercise, push yourself to do things thst you're afraid to do, read, don't spend too long behind the computer etc. It will get easier, you will feel better. But it's seriously hard work, and its easy to fall back into the cycle again.

There's a reason heroin has such a bad name. Once you're in bed with it its extremely hard to get out. It's never worth the risk imo, no matter how much self control you think you have.

[1 Points] None:

Having used most drugs I find it's stimulants it spirals quickly out of control with worst. Benzo's too. Because H lasts a while it's not compulsive just avoid using it for days in a row. You can tell even from when you first try it though it is powerful and mentally aswell as physically addictive, more so than most drugs. Treat it with extreme care. I'd advise against ever IV'ing, one thing I will not be doing.

[1 Points] qsift2:

heroin dnm sales r down so vendors start argument on reddit to get new custies. thats my take on it hehe

[1 Points] GrandMasta216:

No chemical is inherently good nor bad. It's the intent of

Whoever is in control.of said substance. If you use heroin

And it helps you, even if you're addicted to opiates but

Don't Rob, steal, or murder to get your fix I'd say good for

You. Who the fuck am I to judge?

Just know your substance, your mind, and your body

And I say you'll be great!

:)

[1 Points] The_Ira:

Well, using heroin is not inherently "wrong". Even if you do it just for pleasure. Using it as a tool is the same. Problem is that you need to be very careful because it is easier than you think to fall into addiction, especially if use is regular. You will not notice it at first, it happens very subtle.

[1 Points] ChasingTracers:

its not wrong i dont judge anybody for putting ANY chemical they choose in their body. heroin just happens to be one that tends to get out of control faster than the user is ready for

[1 Points] al_eberia:

I don't want to get all negative here but that is pretty much the most likely profile to get addicted to heroin. People self medicating for depression or mental illness make up a enormous percentage of the people addicted compared to their total percentage of the drug using population. Just the fact that it is successful in treating your condition will make it much harder to stop using as you will have to deal with the rebound of depression and anxiety as well as the physical and psychological cravings.

I would highly recommend looking into a treatment method that will allow you to discuss it with others without triggering extreme stigma, and that isn't putting you at risk of picking up a legal conviction that will have extremely negative effects just from being on your record even if the legal system is lenient on the jail time. This isn't even getting into the risk of overdose or death as the quality of the product can vary immensely.

[1 Points] FirstBaron:

There is no right or wrong about using drugs.

The issue with drugs is that a vulnerable, easily addicted user will start using drugs and slowly move to stronger and stronger drugs in an eternal quest to find the "ultimate" binge. A dangerous quest which leads to the user getting addicted to heroin after several years of various drugs usage.

No body starts using heroin right away. You start taking weed, then hash, then speed, mdma, then cocaine, etc and go to stronger and stronger drugs over the course of several years, most of the time recreatively or in a social setting. As you progress in this "Drug corridor", your drug usage becomes stronger and the drugs you use as well. Social pressure may contribute to the problem.

I see heroin usage and addiction as the culmination of this "drug corridor".

I'm not saying everyone who smokes a joint will end up dead to a heroin overdose after a few years; I'm just saying it all starts with a joint puff.... Then, depending on your own personnality, it can set you on a destructive path to seek stronger and stronger bdrugs, and culminate with a heroin addiction and ultimately, death.

As a community, opiates have a bad reputation because they are harder to use in a "social" setting than mdma, cocaine or cannabis. So technically you either use them alone as an addict or don't use them at all. If I saw someone pull a syringue full of heroin at a party, I think everyone would be turned off. Not something that would happen with some coke or a joint.

[1 Points] ogsupersaiyen420:

If you have the money for it and won't end up stealing and Shit to get by, then you're straight. Just don't let everybody know because they'll look at you completely different.

[1 Points] mjvej4f:

There really isn't a right or wrong with what you decide to put in your own body when it comes to drugs.

[1 Points] sasquatchthecreator:

I am not against your liberty in choosing to do that, but yes, I do think it is wrong to do Heroin because there are addictive and health effects that simply cannot be ignored.

[1 Points] EastOaklandCase_Boys:

I'm glad you posted this because I had the same questions that I always asked myself. I'll be completely honest and admit I started using H last year. The reason is like most reasons; Pills were too expensive. I have an amazing job in the healthcare profession and if you were to look at me, I wouldn't look like your typical "junkie." I work out 5 days a week and eat relatively clean. I do not inject, I snort. A gram of #4 will typically last me 2 1/2 weeks. I use for the same reasons you stated in your post. My friends and family have no clue that I use because I don't give them any reason to suspect that I do. I'm not robbing anyone, I have a great job and show up everyday on time, and I'm attending school to obtain my master's. Heroin will always have that negative stigma but is it really worse than poppin oxycotin or percs?? It's way cheaper and I can't really tell the difference, but then again, a gram will last me over 2 weeks and I will not let my abuse go any farther than that.

[1 Points] oVerde:

Please hang around /r/opiates you will welcomed and know the drama is real.

[1 Points] highbillymays:

no its not wrong. do what you wanna do playa just dont hurt yourself

[1 Points] None:

Here's another notion about this one I have. It's a pretty basic chemical combination. Diamorphine. It's an altered form of morphine and IME/O, a chemical that isn't really 'needed' due to it's augmentation; it's boring to make so to say. It's a manipulated structure. I have no knowledge of the discovery of heroin though. Was it an accident? Was it knowledge that led to its creation?

[1 Points] SunnyHours89:

I completely understand your frame of mind right now...but trust me things are gonna change and faster than you might think. I too started using Heroin and never thought I'd develop an addiction to it. Boy was I Wrong!

It creeps up on you. It's vicious in that you'll never see it coming. Remember nobody wants to become addicted or plans on it.

I thought I was different...after all, I've tried pretty much every drug under the sun and never have gotten addicted to any other drugs, until heroin came along. It might not make you an addict instantly, or after a few months or even a year. But you'll get there at some point. Whether because of a very bad experience, someone you care about that dies, getting raped, losing your job, losing your girlfriend...or it might happen without a traumatic event. Just the fact that you are using it for depression and anxiety is a very bad sign and a very bad idea...

I'm going to link a video that I think explains it much better than I ever will. It's seriously a must watch. Here it is: https://youtu.be/-9huWlXFA1s

I truly hope you make the right choice cuz if I could go back I would of never tried it. My reasons were the same except I was suicidal and I thought using heroin was the best of 2 evils. After all Heroin is better than death, but not by much. So much so that sometimes I wish I was dead.

Hopefully this helps you in your choice. And at least if you still want to keep going down that road you'll be fully aware of the consequences and how bad it can get. Cheers and good luck in this decision!

[1 Points] None:

addiction is a choice until it isn't anymore

[1 Points] None:

[1 Points] oxykitten80mg:

Just don't get addicted. Addiction sucks. Using a needle also is not inherently bad. Just use a fresh clean one every time and be cautious of blood born pathogens. As long as you don't use for 3 to 4 days after every day you do use you will stay non-addicted and keep your tolerance low. Easy to say, harder to do. Heroin is like a really fast motorcycle, treat it with respect and it will add pleasure to your life. Fuck around and play loose with the rules, and it can kill you or fuck you right quick.

[0 Points] jojaguy:

I have no direct experience as I would never touch the stuff with a 10 foot pole, but anecdotally I have a bit of indirect experience. I knew someone who started smoking weed at age 13. Cool, not too much harm in that I guess. Then it just sky rocketed. Molly, cocaine, meth, until she found her drugs of choice, opiates. She instantly fell in love and she will never be the cute young girl she once was. After drug dealing hardcore and spending all her earnings on pain killers, she looked like death. AT AGE 16. Finally she stumbled upon a H connect and was flabbergasted at how much cheaper it was. She never has, nor will ever IV/IM the poison, but that doesn't stop her from being near death. She has gone to rehab 3 times, and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop there. She never thought this would happen to her. It's all about willpower, right? Get a fuckin' clue. There is no "safe, controlled" dosing of heroin. Just stop. Don't try and justify it. You will make your friends and family cry for you constantly. She had so much potential :'(
