News story: Pot shipped and seized by USPS from Oregon, some numbers.

There was no mention of DNM or Bitcoin, some amateurs still using cash in the mail. Why no mention of FedEx or UPS? See story here

Because this has nothing to do with bitcoin or dnm's. Oregonians have long been exporting bud.

Amateurs?

Let's see. A pro gets paid in Bitcoin, needs to worry about the fluctuation of the marjet price of Bitcoin for however long they hold if for, needs to worry about his markets escrow being hacked, and then needs to cash out their bitcoib by transacting via the blockchain which has a memory of "forever". When cashing out, they need to pass muster with their banks conpliance/kyc departments. Any of their wire transfers could be reported to the irs, which means that, if they're talkinh substantial amounts, they'll forever need to have a reason for all the inflows into their bank account.

The amateur accepts cash from his network of trusted market participants. They don't need to worry about banks reporting tbeir cash movements to the iRS unless they themselves voluntarily put themselves in that situation by making cash deposits.

Doesn't sound like the amateur has it so bad, does it?

Bitcoin and darknets certainly have a roll for mass marketing, though it does expose sellers to overzealous compliance managers at banks. So far no one seems to have been busted that way, but never say never.

Meanwhile for larger operations where identities are known/not kept secret from one another, cash should reign supreme. Why expose oneself to all the nuances and pitfalls of bitcoins when you're just trying to wind up with cash at the end if the day anyways.
