Heard about that cop who overdosed and nearly DIED by coming in contact with fentanyl? Me too. True Fact: It didn't happen.

The Viral Story About the Cop Who Overdosed by Touching Fentanyl Is Nonsense (Slate Magazine, Dr. Jeremy Faust)

"If Green's story is true, it would be the first reported case of an overdose caused solely by unintentional skin contact with an opioid. There is one published case of a veterinarian who was squirted in the eye with carfentanil after trying to sedate an elk (the vet experienced drowsiness, which resolved shortly after receiving a whopping dose of the antidote naltrexone). But scrutinizing Green's story from a medical perspective reveals an irresolvable conflict between the accounts that have been widely disseminated and the realities of medicine and toxicologic possibility."

Discussions of synthetic opioids get people really riled up, but passion is not a legitimate substitute for accurate information. The popular story about the cop who overdosed is wrong, and the details are interesting. If you want to know why, Dr. Jeremy Faust's article in Slate does an excellent job of presenting the science.

The cop was probably an addict who took too much from the evidence bag. Lol Jk, but yeah, something seems fishy.

Clearing up Fentanyl FUD? You got my upvote....

PS, did you hear about the cop who got some fentanyl on his skin serving a warrant and then bit someone's face off?? That DIDNT happen either.

[7 Points] PM_UR_COVFEFE_GURL:

Yup, similar stories are being repeated like crazy, that cops are dropping like flies overdosing because of fentanyl. Bunch of bullshit. Fentanyl patches, which are specifically designed to absorb fentanyl which is designed and formulated to absorb into your skin, can take 8-12 hours or more to start working.

The only way this could happen is if you got some raw fentanyl flicked into your eye or something ridiculous like that. I heard a story where supposedly after a raid, a cop said he felt lightheaded or something, and so they rushed him to the hospital, (he was fine) but they labeled it as AN OVERDOSE. (which sounds like the guy died, but not every overdose is a death)

It's all a bunch of bullshit. You can scoop pure fentanyl powder with your finger and as long as you don't have any obvious open cuts or shit like that, you'll be fine if you wash it off within a few minutes. Most people would freak the fuck out. As long as you don't get it in your eye, your mouth, and your nose, edit: or boof it, you are likely to be fine with common sense by your side when it comes to accidental exposures like these.

surprise...

maybe thats why anyone reviewing fent just drops this shit on his table without any gloves or stuff.

[4 Points] Psynaut:

You mean cops lie? Since they are trained to lie, paid to lie, and encouraged to do so on a daily basis, it is hardly surprising to learn that almost nobody lies more than cops on a daily basis..

[3 Points] lsdinsane:

Did you hear about that one cop who legalized all drugs...oh wait.

[2 Points] Walt_the_White:

I only came to mention how awkward a word 'irresolvable' is. Sounds weird to say.

[2 Points] extremeskater619:

I heard this story but that it was carfentanil.

[1 Points] Dekaayy:

took some, OD'd and then to save face, insert bullshit skin contact narrative to FUD public perception & increase funding on War on Drugs.

Shocker: Slate is a propaganda outlet.

I knew it! I was just telling my friends the other day not to buy into this drug war bullshit.

Story time:

I was too sick to be working but was rejected by disability, and so was working nights at a fentanyl factory - a skeleton crew was there but I was working alone.

I opened a 10 kg white bucket of pharmaceutical grade fentanyl in a 3' x 6' unventilated area with no protection other than gloves and a lab coat. I proceeded to run tests on it for an hour before someone interrupted me and said "I would like to know what you are doing."

To this day, I am sure I am dead.

It's not the LEO making up lies.

It's the media desperate for advertising revenue.

Look at all the trouble the media has caused twisting Trump stories. We have people protesting and people being killed over the medias bullshit.

It's not new but it's definitely taken to another level recently.

Me and my team touch Fent daily. We have yet to die.

[-6 Points] dookiedonkey:

but what about the little kid who died when he touched a fence with it on it? story: https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/americas-heroin-epidemic/fentanyl-crisis-miami-boy-10-reportedly-overdosed-deadly-painkiller-n784086 tl;dr: Alton had returned home from a neighborhood pool earlier in the day and was vomiting, according to the newspaper. He was found unconscious later that night and rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We believe that it was somewhere between the park or the pool or the sidewalk, or maybe he touched something,” Fernandez Rundle said.
