With the crazy law passed in the USA a few months ago I heard PIA is no longer "trustworthy" and my subscription is expiring soon.
What VPN do you guys recommend to stay safe?
Preferably dd-wrt compatible...
Best VPN for darknets?

Tor bridge through tails is my go-to, but Nord is a great VPN if you want to go that route

Privacytools.io Lists a few
I always see people recommending this site but I haven't verified any of the VPNs on it

No VPN is trustworthy if you're looking for privacy. They see what you do and know who you are. It's just one extra hop away from your ISP. I have a VPN because I at least have some legitimate legal complaint if they spy on me, and my ISP throttles Netflix and injects ads into unencrypted pages. So my VPN is basically why my internet connection should be -- unmonitored (or so they claim) and I have legal recourse if they don't provide that, and they don't throttle or inject ads. It's what my ISP should have provided me -- free and open internet.
But if you're looking for actual privacy, that's what Tor is for.

Tails with Tor is all you need.

But if we told you would they really be the best anymore? Once they start getting attention it's over

And PIA is still trustworthy. I still use them but they have better vpns out there for cheaper just have to look around

All VPNs are generally similar. If you want to maximize your chances of being anonymous, use a VPN that is based out of a country other than US, CA, GB or any big country. The laws are different in some countries and therefore the VPN company might not be forced to disclose info about you. (assuming LE is onto you)
Very important to use a vpn with no logs ! This makes it so that even if they wished to provide info about you, there would be no info to provide
go for Air or Nord, all the security of the obscure hipsters VPNs but theyre well enough know that they actually got some traffic on their servers so there is actually some traffic hiding yours, right now theres 4-5000 people connecting to Air
