Bitcoin extortion

Is anyone else concerned about the implications of the anonymity of bitcoins? There's basically no way to trace where a transaction is going if someone uses a cracked AP and Electrum on TAILS. This would make extortion incredibly easy, because there's no physical drop point for cash. Really the only way you could catch someone is if you convinced them to meet in person.

Someone could kidnap some CEO's daughter right now, send them videos of them torturing her, and demand the ransom in bitcoins and there would be no way to catch them. A bunch of letters went around recently to local businesses threatening to murder the owners' families around here, and a lot of them paid up. And I'm sure you all know about the Ashley Madison extortions; that guy got away with like 15k. There's nothing stopping ISIS from kidnapping you right now, extorting your family, and getting away with it.

The weak point would be the cashout, but you can get a bunch of Russians or Polacks to do that for you for like a 20% fee.

Are you one of the Sopranos? I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse on this, the day of my daughters wedding.

Never heard of blockchain analysis? Someone would catch this guy, and if its the cops, he will be lucky, as they have rules to follow. My god if a real life Mike Ermantrout finds him.....

You cannot anonymously cash out large amounts of money without a hell of a lot of planning.

This reminds me of Diamond threatening to kidnap and torture Lyn Ulbricht and Ross's sister for his 300k bitcoins worth $117 million.

Read the original post and then look at the username and it all comes together. I don't think we're dealing with one of the brighter crayons in the box.
