How long does it take to encrypt a full disk with Veracrypt?

I have been setting it up. I did everything until it came to the test tab, where I pressed test (sorry, I'm not familiar with this software). After that my computer rebooted and I was prompted my Veracrypt Password and a PIM (I just put 8000 since I wasn't aware of what the PIM is for).

My drive is 2TB, so here are my questions;

-Is it currently encrypting my drive or is it just logging on? It would suck if it takes this long to log on everyday...

-How long will this take? It's been 20-30 minutes.

Mine took 7 hours 1tb

About 6 - 12 hours per Terrabyte, depending on cypher chosen, give or take. I would expect 2 Tb to take more than a day for sure.

It will not take this long everyday. The fist time the data is encrypted using the keypattern is what will take the longest. Once that is done, boot up time should not be that effected by the decryption process.

Why use Veracrypt as opposed to the standard Ecryptfs that is standard with most Linux distros.

The reason Ecryptfs is so well excepted is that it is respected and known to be very secure.

Unless you are using Windows, and if that is the case why are you worried about disk encryption when the OS is going to break the security anyway?
