EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Odd pieces of mail are nothing new for Eau Claire postmaster Jason Brain.

"We've had strange packages that the postal inspectors have been here before," Brain said to WEAU 13 News on Friday.

But 20-year-old Tristan Linsmeyer is accused trying to have something more unusual mailed- almost a pound of Ecstasy.

"So, it's nothing new ... but yeah, it kind of throws you off a little bit," Brain said.

According to a criminal complaint filed Friday, the Wisconsin Department of Justice was alerted on October 9th about a package addressed to Linsmeyer coming from Antwerp, Belgium.

Once the package arrived at John F. Kennedy international airport in New York, it was opened and a substance suspected to be Ecstasy was found inside.

The package was forwarded to Milwaukee and then allowed to proceed to the mail distribution center in Minneapolis where the suspected substance was found to be 406 grams of Ecstasy.

Begining on October 23rd, the package was at the post office annex building in Eau Claire and authorities coordinated with Linsmeyer to pick up the package.

"We do the initial contact, if we notice that something is not right with the mail or something suspicious. We'll get a hold of the postal inspectors and, from that point on, they handle everything."

Linsmeyer arrived at the postal annex building at about noon on November 1st and was arrested trying to pick up the package.

While the package that Linsmeyer was trying to get went through several checks before his arrest this week brain says he asks his carriers to keep their watchful eyes on any abnormalities in the mail they carry.

"You know, throughout the year, we usually have a safety talk every Thursday and, maybe, every couple weeks, we'll bring up stuff like this, look for suspicious mail or you know something out of the ordinary," he said.

Linsmeyer is free on a $5,000 signature bond. His next court appearance is slated for December 20th.

It seems like those who have been getting caught with massive amounts of drugs from Europe are extremely young recently.

Their goes your future boi.

Should've paid for extra stealth. I seen a polish vendor offer $500 shipping fee with 100% delivery.

[13 Points] MidnightGanja:

Well... you're a stupid fuck if you order 400g's in an one mail. I mean come on dude, even Pablo Escobar shipped 200g bricks, tf you doing ? Word of advice, if ever wants to become a successful drug dealer, import/smuggle/traffic small quantities and when you receive them all just make an one batch out of all, in that way your safety is guaranteed. Think about it, how many parcels do you think the customs receive ? and only a few number of importers get caught, almost all the ones that get busted, get caught with more than 200g's of any kind of shit, others who get caught with below 200g's have either shitty girlfriends or wives who would snitch on them or the vendor used a shitty stealth and the whole customs smelled like a Tomorrowland party. Stop thinking about the shit you gonna save on shipping when shipped bulk, that's not worth the jail time or the fine. Keep in mind, " If you cannot bear the shipping cost for 4x packages of 100g rather than an one 400g pack, you won't be able to afford the chargers as well "

Dude prolly ordered a full pound. Postal inspectors copped the other 2 ounces

Also... 400g...from the second hottest country (imo) from NL to Germany.

Why.. Wohoo way cheaper, oh and now you're in jail

That sucks. At least he's out on bond. Hopefully gets a good lawyer and a good deal, hopefully their evidence is shit.

$5,000 signature bond for a half kilogram of MDMA seems remarkably light.

Idk if you copy and pasted or what but Jesus christ someone needs a proof reader here

He most likely didn't know about the whole customs thing going on with international mail. Especially from Europe. He took an unnecessary risk and paid the ultimate price for it.

[4 Points] rediculousrex:

400 grams is enough to make 2,000 strong pills dosed at 200mg each. And this kid ordered that much from fuckin Belgium. And then he went to the post office to pick it up when they contacted him. I get that he's just 20, but even for a 20 year old, that's pretty dumb.

Pour one out for him, the lowest of the hanging fruit.
