Friend fucked up, we need your help

Basically my friend majorly fucked up and needs to delete a string of messages between himself and someone else but the phone cannot look like it was tampered or he will get into a metric fuckton of trouble. Its an iPhone 5 running ios 8. He needs to delete a thread of messages and make it unrecoverable no matter what passwords the authorities have. I am hoping someone here can help because my original idea was to back it up a bunch of times and then delete the messages and then restore but there is a chance the messages will eb left on the phone. Does anyone know of a way for me to do this. I can jailbreak the phone is necessary. Also, is there a way to make the phone look like a disk, nuke it with a 7 level format and then restore from backup?

Thanks for your time and please help

UPDATE: The cops will not be pulling anything from the cloud, it will only be from the phone, so the fact its stored on Apple servers is irrelevant.

What will essentially happen is they plug it in and pull everything from the phone so anything else is totally irrelevant, I repeat, it will be pulled straight from the phone so no cloud stuff is necessary

LAW ENFORCEMENT CAN SUBPOENA YOUR WIRELESS CARRIER FOR COPIES OF YOUR CELL DATA, INCLUDING MESSAGES YOU FUCKING IDIOT

[15 Points] WhyDontJewStay:

Um, the cops can get a copy of text messages from the provider.

If you delete them and then they ask the provider for a transcript then they are going to have proof that he deleted them.

Right i've dealt with this before, wrap phone in cling film, put the phone in the microwave, turn it up for 4 minutes, walk away..

When micro dings you need to take phone out of cling film, dnt forget to leave it to stand for a minute before next step.

Place the phone in a container with bleach so its covered. Leave overnight and your phone will be clean of messages.

Voila!

Peace

You're getting good advice here. If these are imessages -- even if you don't use icloud backup or if youve never associated the phone to an iCloud account - there is no way to completely eliminate them from apple. Your carrier won't have the messages, though; that is one of the advantages of iCloud.

However, you seem to have some sort of misunderstanding about your rights here. If you are in possession of the phone, why are you concerned about the phone not appearing to be tampered with? If whatever you're trying to hide is so serious to have you in this much of a panic, destroy the phone.

If you don't want to post exactly what is going on, you can PM me. But your narrative is confusing and nobody is going to be able to tell you exactly what you are at risk of, since you seem to be missing some sort of understanding about what the police can and can't access from servers. Do you mind messaging me what exactly is going on and I will try to help you.

If you don't have the phone on you with the physical evidence then it could technically be the person who picked up your phone after you factory reset it and lost it in the public transportation system. Gonna have to buy a new phone after that fuck up ;\

Delete messages, then back up. Throw out phone, take new phone and restore backup.

If they got the serials of your phone, you will need to jb and download an explorer and file deletion app and pray it is enough.

[2 Points] throwahooawayyfoe:

Short answer... Get rid of the phone. You can always buy a new one. Some electronic gadget isn't worth your freedom. Take a ferry ride or whatever and toss it overboard. If they ask, tell them you lost it on the bus or it got stolen while you were in the library or whatever. Better yet... Go to the police station and report it stolen as soon as it's out of your possession. Remember, an iPhone is just a thing. Siri doesn't actually have a soul and you won't anger the ghost of Steve Jobs if you happen to destroy it.

tl;dr just get rid of the damn thing

source: this is actual advice a criminal defense lawyer once gave me in regards to some possibly incriminating evidence stored on a hard drive.

They can just get the msgs from your cell provider. Why were you texting about drug deals?

i think your friend is done dude, good luck

Should of been using wickr in the first place. Stupid iPhones always getting people in trouble or their boobies all over the net.

[1 Points] BobHasselhoff:

Reset it to factory settings, download typical kid apps, and send some bs texts to mom and grandma. Thats all i got.

What's the problem with just deleting the messages? Are you worried about forensic analysis on the phone? If that's the case just throw it in a river. If it's ok to restore it obviously just having the data removed doesn't count as "tampered with" right? Is it possible to just swap the internals of the phone and replace the memory? I just asked a friend and he doesn't think that's possible but neither of us are sure.

If shit's real serious you could meet him in a back alley somewhere and beat the shit out of him. Steal his phone, wallet and sneakers. Then have your friend file a police report and say he was jumped by some guy in a hoodie, Boom: plausible deniability for him not having the phone anymore,

[1 Points] PaladinProtein:

  1. Get rid of the phone ASAP (break it to pieces, remove battery/sim card/ whatever can make it trackable)

  2. Go to police station and report the phone stolen.

Make it believable, something like you set it down at a table in a mall food court and went to grab some napkins and it was gone when you got back. Especially by reporting it stolen what can they do? You haven't tampered with shit, you're just a victim of some punk ass thief now.

As somebody who has known a few people involved in DEA investigations for selling drugs, I can tell you that there is no way they are going to pull actual logs from a cell phone provider. The most they might do is get logs showing incoming and outgoing numbers that are texted and called. They will do what is called a "flash" on the phone if it's seized, and copy anything that is physically on the phone. Mostly call logs, text logs, pictures ect... They aren't going to go through the hassle of trying to recover deleted stuff unless this is like a murder investigation or you are a terrorist or something. Everybody needs to quit trying to freak this kid out.

If it was BlackBerry there would be a solution, with iPhone... not sure..

[1 Points] DicksWillBeFucked:

Umm, accidentally drop the phone in water.

Get a new cell phone with a different carrier. Make it a confusing hassle for them to get anything.

[1 Points] sharpshooter789:

Accidentally leave your phone at a public place. The next day active locate my iPhone then do a remote wipe.

[0 Points] goat_tiggies:

Unless you were plotting murder relax. You dont sound like someone making thre kind of deals police would care about. Is your friend worried about parents/gf/family reading the data or police?

Ignore everyone claiming youre friend is fucked. Most of them have probably never been arrested and are speaking out of their ass
