One company hired the FBI's entire Silk Road investigation team

The FBI team that brought down Silk Road has a new home.

After headline-grabbing investigations, arrests, and prosecutions on some of America's highest-profile cybercriminals, five of U.S. law enforcement's most prized cybercrime aces have all left government service for greener pastures--a titan consulting firm called Berkeley Research Group (BRG).

BRG's newly hired gang of five includes former federal prosecutor Thomas Brown, as well as former FBI agents Christopher Tarbell, Thomas Kiernan, and Ilhwan Yum--names that punctuated many of the biggest cybercrime stories of the last decade.

This is simply an arm of the FBI or other 3 letter agency. BUT......now all they do is track, hack, and try to exploit, then pass what they gain on to the actual government.

The Feds have to walk a legal line, these guys not so much. If the feds get caught illegaly exploiting something it could blow their case so instead they just use these "civilians" and pay them a consulting fee instead of being on the actual federal payroll.

And what does this BRG do for the world? Is it any of our concern? Sounds like a cover up for something if you ask me...

Berkeley...Berkeley...why does that sound so familiar?....huh

[5 Points] Dontcarepayme:

They're going into a private firm so they can solely work on fucking us over.

Or they're using their resources for something else involving data mining and DN activities

So yeah working on fucking us over no matter what. When you learn a certain skill and bring down a major drug market, you're a valued employee. They're moving on up in their shitty world.

[4 Points] None:

too bad carl mark force iv cant work with his friends

[2 Points] CynicalElephant:

Is that a good thing? I'm thinking that's a good thing for us because they were clearly skilled and now they are no longer working for the government.

[1 Points] B42m0row:

Fucking lobbyists man. They are full of bread and just throw money around to shut everyone up.

[1 Points] None:

Soo much money.

[1 Points] earthmoonsun:

anonymous should "cooperate" with them

[1 Points] Insipid_Pedantry:

What this means is the Government isn't valuing these employees properly, hence their desire to go to the private sector. This is actually good news in some way, as they're likely to be replaced by people less qualified, with more to gripe about (being underpaid, etc.). Of course, it also means there are private concerns looking at monetizing the prosecution of digital crimes, something that some of Reddit's userbase (to say nothing of r/darknetmarkets subscribers) would find of the highest interest.

Then again, let's remember how RU was caught and how TSR was actually taken down, not by some insanely gifted investigators, but rather by incredibly shitty OPSEC.

[1 Points] Lucid_Enemy:

Actually there a research company/consultant they go do a study get some real world opinions and go to a company and say hey this is a problem that you can fix and we have the way you can fix it. Or they will stand up for a company and provide data to protect the company "oh people are dying from smoking. Well this company provides jobs for people as well as it's not there choice that Bobby trys a cigarette" there really just shitstirrers but they are useful for every industry

[1 Points] DeadEyesX:

So they want a team with known rogue agents that like to steal Bitcoins?
