TAILS USERS: Default Electrum version just expired.

If you're conducting business through a TAILS USB, you'll probably get a notification the next time you try to send BTC to any address. The default TAILS version of Electrum, 1.9.1, is too out of date to interact with the most current version, 2.5.1

Don't worry though -- your BTC are safe. Tails will probably upgrade Electrum to newest version for their next patch. In the meantime, however, you can install the most recent Electrum wallet directly into your persistent volume, and boot your wallet from there until the new version hits.

I was running it fine manually yesterday, today it won't work. what the fuh

[1 Points] NightSymphony:

Well that sucks. :\ but yeah, good thing we can manually install the latest version

Thanks for this!

So if persistence is not configured, electrum cannot be manually updated? Or am I doing something wrong? I created a sudo account at the beginning.

[1 Points] sapiophile:

A newer version probably won't make it into the next Tails release. To follow the Tails team on this, check out https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/9713. If anyone here has developer privileges on that trac ( /u/thestr4d ?), I think it'd be appropriate to raise the priority of that ticket.

[1 Points] r3ptarr:

I thought the standard version of electrum isn't optimized for anonymity like the native one in tails is?

[1 Points] II-NataYmleg:

I don't use Tails as Linux is my main OS anyway, but as a reminder AFAIK no 2.x version of Electrum has made it into the repositories of any Linux distribution yet. Such I would like to cast doubt on a timely upgrade.

[1 Points] swimpappy:

Yep. I use persistence, so I ramped my amnesia folder up with the 2.5.1 Electropussy.

Mine did this last week. It said it needed to be updated. The next day I tried sending coin without updating, and it went through fine..
