Do you need to tumble when using Multi-sig?

I've been wondering this for a while. Since you are not sending directly to a market wallet, do you need to tumble/obfuscate your coin before sending when using multi-sig?

Honestly never thought twice about tumbling...but this is a good question. I would also like to know if anyone has any insight..

So does this mean when you DD a vendor you don't need to clean them either?

[1 Points] SamuelEdwardKonkinIV:

There is nothing truly special or obfuscating about a multi-sig transaction.

Currently, in Bitcoin, you need to actively mix if you plan on obscuring the path of funds.

Since our multisig addresses are generated using random public keys, there is no way to trace a multisig address to us. The only possible point of failure is if the vendor is LE. Depending solely on this fact, you can make the decision to tumble or not. We keep records of multisig addresses in our database for 30 days.

Yes you do.

Somebody could search all multisig addresses on the blockchain to find those where a small amount (between 0.2% and 5%) goes to the alphabay / dreammarketplace wallet. That would mark the multisig address are being drug-related.

Tumbling/mixing/eliminating taint is a necessity for all things dark net related not just multi-sig.

Also here are some best practices IMO when it comes to multi-sig

  1. Use a local copy of coinbin when signing (i.e. go to coinb.in and right click save as, or compile from github)

  2. For vendors, txs can be broadcast not only on coinb.in but also on Electrum (Tools -> Load Transaction) or the Bitcoin Core console with sendrawtransaction. In fact creating and signing txs in Bitcoin Core is easier than it might seem, it's just 3 commands (createrawtransaction, signrawtransaction, sendrawtransaction)

  3. For vendors using 2-of-3 multi-sig it's best practice to have your customers (or maybe just regulars) send their key to you along with their order info, this way you can verify for sure that the market doesn't control 2 of 3 keys.

If you're a vendor and want to know more about multi-sig feel free to shoot me an email (rocketship@sigaint.org)

I'd imagine you could never be too safe
