VPN or no VPN with Tails (!?)

Tails devs say no way on a VPN. Their opinion should carry more weight than most others. They say that because Tor uses a built in proxy, using a VPN is shooting yourself in the foot by defeating the purpose of the proxy and creating a access point that can be connected to you. However, in my experience online reading forums and other articles about Tor, it's seems like everyone says to use a proxy. Such as in "Jolly Roger's Security Guide for Beginners"

It's made even more strange that there doesn't seem to be a middle ground opinion from anyone weighing both sides of the argument. People either insist you must have one - or in the case of Tails devs - they say you're a dipshit if you do. Who to trust? The dipshits or the Tails devs?

Do you guys use a VPN with Tails/Tor? Personally, I'm leaning toward "no" being the correct approach. I have been testing VPNs latley and talking to a lot of VPN providers and it really does end up seeming like you might be putting a bulls-eye on your back.

The Tails group is at odds with the Tor Project over the use of VPNs.

Here's what the Tor Project has to say about using a VPN in front of the Tor network:

Because of this problem:

Tails users should, at a minimum, use a bridge when connecting to the Tor network.
