Didn't know this was a thing. Can we talk about stealth for a moment.

I knew police could "bug/wiretap" you phone but, this is much more creative. What is a sting ray and how do I prevent myself from becoming a victim. I currently use a flip phone.

is taking the chip out an effective way to counteract this.

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/03/appeals-court-no-stingrays-without-a-warrant-explanation-to-judge/

not sure is this violates the "Don't post stealth details" rule. I interpret that rule as dont post the stealth details of deep web vendors.

Don't listen to anyone saying you can't prevent this.

Make all communication through signal private messenger by Open Whisper Systems, anyone hijacking your cell signal will see nothing but AES-256 encrypted data

I think the most important question we must consider... Why the hell do you still have a flip phone?

take battery out of your phone.

Wrap your phone in several layers of metal foil, alternatively make a Faraday cage to store your phone in when not needed.

lol at the chip.... ever use a gps? did you know a gps satellite just sends the time of day out? nothing else, ever.

its called triangulation and if you send a signal, they can find you.

destroy your phone, its the only way...

If you're using a vpn and an encrypted texting app are u pretty much secure from stingrays?

[1 Points] Lucid_Enemy:

There was an app I gotta look for it... But it can detect anything odd happening to your cellular connection... In order for this to work the connection usually will drop and then come up since they have to jump in the middle of you and the tower and say there the tower now... Really this isn't a new system... Just first that's ever been able to defeat the CDMA authentication.... GSM has been vulnerable to this since day 1
