no bitcoins go through the Onion Ring. In fact bitcoins never go anywhere. there is only the blockchain, with pairs of addresses that increase and decrease by the same amount to simulate the flow of "coins". But nothing flows like emails or ip packets.
A wallet is just an app or piece of software that allows you to transfer a number from your blockchain address to one that isn't yours. Bitcoins don't live in it, or in cold storage, or a bitcoin vault. They don't exist.
Bitcoins are just a way to make it easier for people used to coins to understand. If anything, bitcoin is like a tank of water. Any volume is equally valid to the bitcoin network. you don't get some water that is dirty from a drug deal, and some that is clean. its just water. Your wallet can be implicated in crime, its the pump which moves the water. but all water is the same.
