How common is it that USPS workers steal packs?

Just something that crosses my mind from time to time. I've had a pack in the past listed delivered that never showed up to my receiving address. A friend sent some weed to another friend and that was listed as delivered but the recipient never got it. And most recently I ordered something for a friend and my vendor said the pack landed but my friend never received it on their end.

Then there are articles like this: http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/9096343-74/davis-witness-according

So it does happen, but I really wonder just how common this is, and when a pack does mysteriously go missing, is it a usps or vendor fuckup, or was it just nabbed from the mailstream by an enterprising USPS employee?

Despite what you read on DNM, USPS mail/packages rarely get lost. I owned an internet store front and shipped 20,000+ packs (90% domestic, 10% intl.) and I had 5 "lost" including 2 to the UK where I'm fairly certain they recieved the goods. 75% First Class with tracking 24% Priority, 1% Priority Express.

I would imagine it's just not worth the risk.

I've had a couple packs taken from them when it says it was delivered then they played clueless and acted like they knew nothing

Very, very rarely. There are cameras lining the walls and all over the building in a PDC (processing and distribution center) and mail is scanned at each stop when it gets processed; letter mail goes through DBCS or DCSS machines which take a photo of each piece. Occasionally mail will get caught in the DBCS machines and shredded all to hell though, it happens a lot when a loader mixes the type of mail on the belt. You know those cardboard ad mailers that get sent out so much? Those are one of the main culprits, because they can bunch up once they're pushed through the loader and then anything else in the belts stands at risk of getting caught, and just trying to remove it can result in destroyed letters.

Packages don't get shredded or anything as much but I've seen plenty of cases where a PSE or someone throwing them is pissed about the manual overtime or something and just chucks them across the floor to the bin, not even caring if they miss. Whether it's letter mail or packages though it's easy to find the missing link in the chain, so if someone complains about not receiving a pack all they have to do is review cam footage.

I have a feeling those types of scenarios account for a lot of the unexplained pack losses where it can be proven the vendor actually sent something and isn't scamming. The Postal Inspectors absolutely do not fuck around and if they happen to catch you pocketing mail on cam or someone sees you rifling through a package they will tear you a new ass. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but when it does happen it's usually because a mail carrier has been stealing letters that obviously contain money or packages from tech companies. Even then they're caught most of the time because the PIS is far better at busting postal workers than they are at busting postal customers. Throw substances into the mix and that just beefs up the charges. Unless a piece of mail is torn open and drugs are literally falling out, or it fails a scan or air test (usually only done at customs equipped facilities handling international mail), you can't even take it to your supervisor because you'll still get in trouble for opening the mail and fucking up any possible investigation since you did it without a warrant or PIS involvement.

Common. Dark net packages getting snatched aren't because they blend in but those packs coming from Cali that just look funny or smell oh you bet the postal worker is putting that in his car.
