How do Drug Raids Works?

Hello,

I searched for a while on reddit and on the internet, but couldn't really find an answer to my questions about drug raids. So here are my questions, I would be very happy if anyone knew how to answer them!

How the police proceeds when searching your home?

Where do they look?

Are they trained to look at certain places that could be hidding drugs (what are they)?

Do they look everywhere (like in the movies when they make a biiig mess by throwing all your stuff everywhere)?

Finally, do you think it's possible that they don't find your stuff?

If you have anything to add, I would appreciate if you added it:)

To more accurately answer your question, they will look as long as it takes to find something. So I recommend decoy stashes, such as easier to find drugs and money. that will get small charges but satisfy the officers. What I did was put 5 grams of blow and like 10 xanax bars a d like 1000 bucks in an easily openable safe. once they found that they thought they got it all and everybody lived happily ever after

Here's what happened to me. They come in with Warrent, their first priority is detaining you and anyone else in the house. They will most likely have you in separate squad cars. They will not tell you what they find till it's over, but they will make a mess and won't stop until they are satisfied. For me they didn't find everything but they found my decoy money and stashes so they felt good about the raid. The whole experience is wierd sitting outside your house handcuffed while a few officers search your house and a few stand gaurd outside. After it was all over they took all communication devices in the house, scales, baggies, drugs, anything with residue, paraphernalia, firearms. For me they didn't find anything large enough and actually didn't take me downtown to book me, they gave me an affidavit and left me at my house. It's need a year now and my case has been resolved, but I guess I'll never see any of the legal possessions they took from me.

Everyone forgot to mention that if you have dogs, that will be the first thing they shoot.

Pretty general questions.. are we talking USA? Europe? Ect.

1)How the police proceeds when searching your home?

Well in the US it will either be a Knock or No-Knock warrant. If its No-Knock (not uncommon for drug raids) they'll be dressed in military garb, will kick in the door and point rifles at anyone and everyone..

2) Where do they look? Well if they have existing info (like from a CI) they'll check there. If not they'll generally just trash the place. Pull out drawers, open cabinets ect ect.

3). Are they trained to look at certain places that could be hidding drugs (what are they)?

Standard places like drawers and cabinets will almost certainly be checked. Hard to give a complete list though, each cop will have had their own experiences and they learn from them...

4). Do they look everywhere (like in the movies when they make a biiig mess by throwing all your stuff everywhere)?

At least in the US yes. They're not going to be shy about breaking things/ making a mess of things. Allegedly it's different in some countries.

5). Finally, do you think it's possible that they don't find your stuff?.

Sure it's possible.. however if they bring in dogs or worse still electronic sniffers it's unlikely they'll miss anything substantial unless it's been carefully hidden (or just plain lucky).

All this only applies to a real raid though. A probabation check for instance isn't going to be this in depth..

They generally kick your door down, come in with guns to your face, detain you, tear all your shit apart till they find what they want, and then if they don't find what they want they will come in with dogs. It is POSSIBLE to hide your drugs, but it is not very likely, and they will utterly destroy your shit in the process. They will also not help clean anything up or care that they destroyed your shit, you will also have to replace your own door.

I have a good story about my raid. I'll write up when I'm home

I was arrested by DEA, USPIS and US Marshals on a federal arrest warrant. They came at 8AM (not 6AM cause I was not the first one on their list of arrests). They came like 10 strong, but not in swat gear or anything. That said, they all had guns, but they didn't have them unholstered. They tried to question me but after one question, the question of whether I had any weapons I said I wanted a lawyer and then didn't say another word. Transported to DEA HQ and then federal courthouse and put in full shackles (feet, hands and belly chain). Arraigned and released on 150k signature bond.

Drug arrest (and raid technically), but no search warrant.

If you want to see what a search looks like, check out the dude who collected blotter artwork, that should give you an idea.

And I'll just add, there was not a single "cop" car there. It was all regular cars and there weren't even any covert radios (at least that I could see) or tinted windows. Cars were as regular as could be. I was transported handcuffed in the back seat next to a DEA SA.

Reading all this from the UK makes me glad I live here. The police will bang on your door very early in the morning and show you their warrant before they enter and will search your house and question you about the package they intercepted in the mail.

They will be by the book and will (hopefully) not piss you about with bullshit semi illegal lies. There will be no firearms at all. People more experienced than I was about drug raids all say that the cops will never search the coats in the hallway. But as the USA does not have entrance hallways......
