I still believe it's great that LE could not do the same they've done to Hansa on AB. There is no reason why they wouldn't do that (it would get them more proofs and more arrests) unless they just couldn't. I believe Cazes did a great job afterwall, they just seized encrypted data (supposedly).

no. no he did not do a good job. law enforcement seized all server data and has access to all that data [i.e. pms, login times, passwords, transaction ids, . . .]. they just did not take over ab and run it for some time like hansa, but this does not mean they did not gain any data by their seizure. cazes even kept all passwords in a text file which law enforcement could access.

cazes got busted by a very rookie mistake [if the indictment is correct], so he did not do a good job. law enforcement just took a long time to find and exploit his past mistakes, like with ross.

They worked with the Dutch police because they'd get a lot more data from everyone moving to Hansa, all in once place. They have specifically noted that they wanted it to seem as if AB's closure was an exit scam and they did a good job of it. If there was no news coverage of the raid in Quebec, there wouldn't have been a single mention of an LE takedown here or anywhere for that matter. Based on past cases, the US would come under fire if they allowed it to operate under their control, where as the Dutch police had the full go ahead on doing so.

I'm all for giving credit where it is due, but this is not the place.

My theory is that grabbing Cazes involved the Thailand police and you know they would have not kept their mouths shut about this case. The only reason that Hansa was handled how it was handled was because it was a Dutch operation. The Dutch could snatch the owners, hold them for as long as they wanted and they moved the site to Holland. Some Thai cop would have shot his mouth off for money to some newspaper and they would have broke the story. Holland, not so much.

I certainly believe AB was a masterpiece and I agree with Tomi that Cazes did a great job in terms of creating such a great and massive marketplace.

For the rest of the people who doesn't agree, please take into consideration that we all make mistakes, no one is perfect. What matters is that we learn from those mistakes and never repeat them at all costs.

I still believe the US Federal authorities are far too dumb to have thought of it. There is a very good reason why they wouldn't do that. It's called stupidity. Those Dutchies have fucking smart coppers.
