You KNOW Ulbrichts keeping a journal in prison. Will you buy the book?

Don't think it'd even be a question, Ross is definetly keeping a journal/diary or writing his "life story" aka "memoirs" in the pen. That part probably needs nooooo explainin'. Of course there will be a barrage of SR related books and movies and documentaries (already a book out by Eily, a documentary by Alex Winter and a fuckin sick ass TORRENT OF EVIDENCE by Gwern). Undoubtedly there will be more to come as Hollywood sinks it's teeth into this and Robert Pattison plays DPR.

But dudes and dudedettes... when (not if), but when the eventual book comes straight from the horses mouth, will you buy it? Torrent it? Just read about it online? Not give a fuck?

I personally will totally fuckin buy it. 30-to-life is a long time, and despite what people think, it not likely homeboy has any hidden brain wallet pirates loot stashed away. Maybe a book deal or selling his rights to Universal will be his only financial cushion when he is released hell be in his 60s. If that! His poor parents are most likely not gonna ever be alive to see their son breathe free air.

When he writes his story, will you want to hear it from his side? Or would you think he's lying and will continue with the framed by elves story?

Kurious....

I'd buy it, legitimately. The guy deserves the proceeds and it would be nice to hear the frank truth of the sites development and what happened as it got taken down, not some hear-say version.

Kind of off topic from my own OP but the more I think about this, the more I feel like Ross Ulbricht did not create DPR/Silk Road. Society, the failed War on Drugs, perfect storm of a smart generation (The Millenials - and he is smart after all he has a Masters in some Mr Wizard form of Physics), growing up as the internet was coming to fruition, colliding with the social media generation, a growing anger towards mainstream (left/right) politics and thus appreciation for a libertarian frame of mind, the inevitable result of ANY kind of prohibition, and a privacy conscious society sick of govt spying and asserting their right to encrypt and conceal their privacy... ALL LED to Silk Road. Its almost like it was fate, and if it wasn't Ross it would have been some other smart/frustrated 20something who'd have done it. Truly Ross Ulbricht is probably the father of the modern darknet market(welllll... you could count the Farmers Market but that was a totally different paradigm). What a fucking shame he might go to prison for LIFE. That's 1 notch below getting the death sentence. You know who gets less time in prison then Ross will? Child molesters, rapists, murderers, violent drug offenders, extortionists, arsonists, armed robbers, murderous pimps, terrorists, list goes on and on and on.

Wut the fuckkkkkkk did Ross do to deserve THIS? Circumvent a totally failed War on Drugs policy? Take violence OFF the streets? Probably SAVE drug related deaths from happening due to a feedback system? I mean the guy is in the same league vision wise as Mark Zuckerberg or Sergey Brin/Larry Whatshisface from Google, Steve Jobs, Bezos, Bill Gates.

But he is locked in a cage for the rest of his life for operating a website. A fucking WEBSITE!! That too that was catering towards consenting adults doing business with each other and exchanging goods (drugs they'd have used ANYWAYS) for compensation. And yes, yes I know, I know, the murder for hire stuff cancels out all the cool stuff about him and makes "nothing more then a common murderous kingpin", but that narrative is so played out. First "murder for hire" was near entrapment and was more or less a survivalist instinct/retribution. Let's not forget that Innocent Angel Curtis ratted on him and then STOLE from him. What if someone steals from you? And potentially does something that will send YOU to prison for a long time (yet they were just as neck deep in it as you were until days ago). What would YOU do? Yeah.. not so black and white. And then the Hells Angels hits... I know I'm gonna take a lot of shit for this, but in the transcripts Ross (I think on 2 or THREE occasions) tells Red&White to be SURE he's hitting the right person and he'd "rather let him go then make a mistake and someone innocent get hurt", and even tells FC several times to just not get involved in this stuff and go back to his normal life. But FC/RW/LD repeatedly fucks with him and cons him from multiple angles, takes advantages of his lack of street smarts, and ultimately he orders the murders to prevent his SITE users details from being leaked (so he thought). How is that any different from any President or Prime Minister or General or King who goes to war against someone who threatens/harms his citizens?

Sorry for the rant. Had to get this off my boobs.

I'm gonna get it off Silk Road

[6 Points] OzFreelancer:

hell yeah I'd buy it.

However, I assume the USA has the same proceeds of crime legislation we have in Australia and he wouldn't be allowed to see a cent of it

[6 Points] deluser:

It'd be an interesting read for sure, it'd be cool just to get some insight into how he originally came up with the idea, influences and future plans that never came to fruition, as /r/OzFreelancer alluded to though, he likely won't be able to see any profits from the sales due to so-called Son of Sam laws. The government has and will continue to have a massive hard on for him. Remember the movie Blow about George Jung? George is out of prison now and has a whopping net worth of around $10kUSD, not much for a guy that smuggled tons of cocaine and was portrayed by Johnny Depp in a movie about his life.

Ross's Prison Diary:

Finally, a book with all the deep, dark secrets you always wanted to know about the first SR. Written by DPR himself, unedited and uncut, including all the details about his personal life. Now you can find out who DPR really was - online and offline.

Preview version available to LEA

Yes.

[1 Points] jahrastafareye:

I'm sure it will be much better written than Charles Manson's "uh-oh hotdog"

Generally, it's illegal for a felon to profit from his crimes. I forget who caused the law to be written, might have been ramirez (night stalker) or berkowitz (son of Sam) but once one state made laws preventing felons from making money from their crimes from behind bars, most the other states piled on as well...

Of course he could probably (not being a lawyer) write something and give it to his parents, who likely need to figure out how to recoup all the money they blew on his defense... Then maybe he might be able to inherit at the end.

But really, following the trial the Silk Road-era journals woukd he a cool read. But journals from now going forward? In case you didn't realize, jail is BORING. Do you really think that reading his thoughts on yoga lessons and prepping guys to take the GED is going to be all that exciting?!

[1 Points] DarkHacker:

I would buy the book but I don't want to be on fbi/dea watch lists.

[1 Points] g0_west:

I'd probably pirate it and send him the BTC. I don't know what % authors get from their publishers, but I don't assume it's much.

[1 Points] trenulous:

It will all be a lie so no...

Doubt he would lie to his parents then right a real tell all.

[1 Points] None:

Don't we already know his life story? Aren't the interesting parts that anyone would want to read about already available online because they were entered as evidence?

No offense to anyone but Ross was just a regular dude before he started SR. It's not like anyone wants to read about high school days. Or his libertarian philosophies and how they were gained and cultivated. I mean, yawn. Well i don't at least. It's not like he had a this long life of crime before SR. I wouldn't read his memoir. I already know about the interesting parts. But hey if he writes it and people buy it and want to read it more power to em.

[1 Points] noonehear:

Why do all these responses say he deserves the proceeds? Yes he was the forefront of DNM's and sucked at OPSEC.

I'll torrent the book(s).
