Why does the search bar never work like it's suppose to on any markets

Like c'mon it can't be that hard to make one that actually works, I have yet to find a market that has one that's useful

OPSEC.

If you can't find it, you can't buy it, you stay out of trouble. It's for our own good.

Great search is hard. Good search isn't trivial. A rudimentary search is usually what we see on the markets. Search won't do anything contextual. If I search "Norco 10mg" google will probably realize that I mean the drug Norco, aka hydrocodone, aka vicodin, that is 10mg in strength. A market search will probably look for listings that contain the keywords "Norco" and "10mg". results will be less than stellar. Many markets won't have synonyms, so hydrocodone results will be left out. 10mg will be exact. If a listing has 10 mg it prob won't get returned.

A thorough search is actually quite difficult to implement. Most stacks will include indexing software, such as Lucene, which helps index data for quick searching. It may also include other more sophisticated methods. I could image the use of triple stores or graphs to store probabilities and associations b/w words and context.

What you see on the market is probably extremely rudimentary SQL queries. Shit like "Select * from SOME_TABLE where col_1 like '%keyword1%' and col_1 like '%keyword2%' going on against each column that holds textual data. SQL queries only get you so far. Thus, b/c markets wouldn't probably be using database technologies other than some RDBMS, search will be limited.

Abraxas search function works flawlessly. Remember that is only searches the category you are in.

I don't think market admins realize how important this is. Can't count the times I found out at random that a vendor was selling exactly what I was looking for, weeks after I've been searching for it using the useless search bar. Getting this right will literally win me over as a customer , far more than so many other features.

This is why I use grams. I only actually get on the real sites to make orders. All browsing is done through G
