The looming government shutdown and what it means for YOU

If the government begins shuttering Saturday, much of its work will discontinue. Although, senior administration officials will apply what they called flexibility to shutdown rules that contain a variety of exceptions.

Social Security payments would be deposited as 53,000 workers for tat agency stay on the job, as world Medicare reimbursements, because the payments don't rely on annual appropriation. In addition, Mr. Trump's agencies will aim to go further than previous shutdowns and existing plans, keeping agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency opened with unused funds, as well as national parks.

Trump's own activities, including planned travel to Switzerland, can continue under an exemption for activity required by the president to carry out his constitutional duties. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis also isn't halting a planned trip to Asia; the military will generally continue operations, as will the Department of Homeland Security under exceptions for essential activities.

Whats more, the United States Postal service is an independent agency. So quit fretting, meth heads.

Most previous periods of funding gaps have been too short lived to have any practical effect in shutting down the government.

For instance, a spending bill veto in 1981 led to a funding gap that was ended by a temporary bill 2 days later. Spending disputes in 1982 led to a 7 day shutdown that bled into the first 3 days of 1983. Two brief funding gaps also halted operations for 3 days in 1984. More than 500,000 workers were sent down for a single day in 1986. A brief weekend shutdown in 1987 ended at the end of the weekend. A shutdown over the holiday weekend in 1990 had effectively zero impact, as it ended by the time the holiday weekend had ended.

In November of 1995, the longest shutdown in US history led to 800,000 furloughs and lasted for one month.

A furlough is an absence from duty granted. For instance, workers at an AIDS clinic could face temporary furloughs if gay dudes quit buttfucking without rubbers.

The 2013 shutdown lasted 16 days and furloughed 850,000 federal employees as well as delaying nearly $4 billion in tax refunds.

IIRC the first Silk Road was taken offline and our hero Ross was arrested on the first day of the government shutdown in 2013.

I was reading about this last night hoping my pack would come lol Also the article i read said something that, in my opinion was moronic. It said something along the lines of " Some Federal Institutions will continue as normal, including The Federal Reserve. like WTF, if your writing for a large media company you should probably know that the Federal Reserve is not a part of our government!
