I think we should come to a consensus on this. Community input needed.

There have been alot of post lately mentioning the possibility of vendors being compromised. What are some signs that a marketeer should look for if they should find themselves suspicious of a vendor? Has anyone been faced with this type of situation? How could a person know for sure? What could you do to prove to others that a vendor may have been hacked or under LE control?

Well I've been around since sr1 but haven't ordered in years.

But lost pgp keys? That was almost unheard of back then for a legit vendor. So just be careful if you See a vendor who "lost" there pgp . I'd count that as very suspicious .

I read reviews sometimes but since I haven't ordered in a few years , I try to help people out who are new. Idc what types of mistakes you make. Nobody should want someone to get arrested for this. That would be the worst feeling. Everything's good until it isn't.

I'll tell this, two postal inspectors came to my house In an all black suv. Some big truck. I thought it was my friends dad cause he has a pickup but they introduced themselves . And I let them in cause I pannicked. But they were trying to get me To sign a paper that admits guilt, when they said it wouldn't admit anything . He was telling his partner to get some "waiver" that would make my signifure on the first paper not mean anything . I told them I wanted a lawyer and they left.

Always ask for a lawyer before you say a word. According to case law the perfect wording to the police would be , " I invoke my right against self incrimination , and I'd like to speak to an attorney ." They can't use that as an admission of guilt according to a few Supreme Court decisions.

Say that before you let them in your house ! They have to leave without a warrant.

Edit : I should delete this but learn from my mistakes I'll delete it in a little

Well with the medibuds situation, I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole just due to the fact he refuses to properly sign a message. Other then that, I don't think there is a foolproof way of knowing for sure. It's all speculation. (I know you weren't specifying medibuds situation, just giving my opinion on the matter rather then making a whole new thread.)

Is there really any way to tell for sure if they are hacked or taken over by LE though

I mean if they got on the vendor acct they couldnt really take orders without the vendors pgp key....assuming everyone encrypts their address.

So a vendor flipped to save time in jail and they had full access you really couldnt tell. Same I'd assume with hacking but they'd still need to get the key to take orders on the market if they are using a hacked acct

Obviously as a mod, I get a lot of messages about suspicious vendors and such. One sort of odd one that comes to mind is a community member messaged me claiming he had ordered something from this particular vendor. Said he got a visit from LE regarding the product. It was basically a knock and talk. The person was extra concerned b/c he had a pack en route from another vendor, so obviously was concerned this pack would be intercepted (it wasn't, person got the other pack).

Anyway, I watched the vendor in question and sure enough, the vendor stopped logging in on the day that the community member's pack was sent. Then about 10 days later, vendor logs in and said he was arrested and had just gotten out of jail. Vendor was popped dropping packs apparently. I don't know if the buyer's pack was taken during the arrest and maybe they went to fish for information? That part is unclear. Vendor wasn't compromised per se, but obviously he ran into a legal issue.

Aside from the pretty obvious stuff that's already been mentioned, the only other thing I could think of would be some kind of "canary" like some online services use now (like Reddit, which dropped theirs this year). Of course, for a DNM vendor, it would probably look a little different, and it might make sense for it to be semi-secret, which is difficult. Obviously, in order for a vendor's canary to be useful to customers, they have to know about it, and if customers know about it, then LE knows about it, too (especially since LE can and does place orders from targeted vendors). So I'm not sure if that could actually be helpful, but perhaps that's the seed of an idea and someone can think of a reasonable implementation.

This huge blowout sales. If an offer seems too good to be true and you have a gut feeling that it the promotion is sketchy, take your purchase elsewhere (it's better to get less product than no product).
