So I want to "lawyer up" in advance... what in the hell do I say during the consultation?

I get the feeling that "yo, I need you on standby in case I get charged with multiple drug felonies" isn't going to go over too well. What type of things should I be asking, and what should I say when they ask why I'm seeking their services?

Particularly looking for advice from people that have actually been through the lawyering up in advance process, hour did it go from start to finish?

Are you a vendor? Honestly, you don't want to burden your lawyer with any information about your actual operations, I would just state that you are looking to have a good lawyer in the event of legal trouble, and ask him about the experience he has, basically get him to sell himself to you. Let him lead the discussion, obviously he will ask if he wants to know or needs to know. At least, that's what I would do absent of having any immediate pending legal trouble.

I keep a lawyer on retainer just find one that comes recomended through friends or associates or is is a high profile lawyer in your area with positive results. Until you are arrested or charged with a crime they do not really need to know anything except that you want a lawyer on retainer

Pick a lawyer. Tell him nothing. The less he knows the better. The law is beautiful.

I need a lawyer in advance. Thats all you have to say. Retainage fees dependent on what you divulge to lawyer after saying "I need a lawyer on retainer".

Ask her what sorts of casework she's handled in a given area (trafficking, possession...), what preventative measures you can take to avoid trouble, and how you should contact/pay her should you be detained/arrested.

[3 Points] noonehear:

I'd be more secure. If you are small time you don't need a lawyer on retainer otherwise your wasting money. Just have their contact info available should you be jailed. That hacks4tardo cat was correct.

[4 Points] NemoKozeba:

You don't: A lawyer already knows what a lawyer does. He doesn't need you to explain it to him. Just tell him you're curious about keeping a lawyer on retainer, and let him give you his sales pitch.

The trick is to find the correct lawyer. If you're in his office without already knowing he's the correct lawyer, you're screwed.

You may find this "What to look for in a lawyer" post (and Q&A) by resident r/darknetmarkets lawyer u/NCLawyer useful:

Hey guys, Just a fyi, In my state you keep your shoes throughout incarceration. I learned my first time going through my states DOC from a fellow inmate that if you know you can keep your shoes, write important numbers on the bottom of the soles of your shoes. Once you're in holding/intake and have access to a phone, simply pull out your sole and flip it over, it's like a contact list.

If you are trying to protect yourself from DNM activities make sure you get a criminal lawyer with a lot of federal experience. Likely your legal troubles would be at the federal level.

Depends on several things. Just spitballing, but if your case if federal or state, that's a huge difference in the kind of lawyer you want.

This might be of some help to anyone in a sticky situation that doesn't have the funds to hire a good attorney

[1 Points] vwermisso:

Might want to try /r/legaladvice. They are a load of cunts over there so be saintly polite even through insults and bullshit and you might get some really helpful advice. Especially if it blows up, then you will get a bunch of bad advice but you'll get some advice most people would have to pay for from experienced lawyers. You have to say your jurisdiction though, keep that in mind.

You just have to talk around it so they understand whats going on.
