Note to self: always withdraw BTC after you've bought what you wanted.

With abraxis gone now, I'm about $40 short than I would be otherwise. I'm aware that this is absolutely miniscule compared to what others have lost, but that is $40 that I would much rather have than have lost.

Please withdraw your money from your market wallet as soon as you're done with it. Not only should this prevent scams, it also can same you money.

You never know... I was making a $300 BTC purchase, and I got drunk and fell asleep before the BTC cleared, and I appreciated the extra $60 I cashed out on in the morning

Never use a market to store your extra coins. I have made this mistake in the past, thinking I would just keep it on the market for convenience if I wanted to place an order. You are literally putting your money in someone else's hands and trusting them not to run the other way.

The markets have fucked me so much I decided a couple months ago that I would only order bulk via direct deals with my favorite/most trusted vendors. Everything has been working very great so far, find a good handful of vendors and stay with them.

Don't put any amount of coin on a DNM that you aren't willing to lose. I never throw any more on there than I need for a purchase with a few bits of shrapnel on top to cover market fluctuations. Soon as it hits the wallet, it goes into the order.

I lost a bit on abraxas too, unlucky timing, but that's the cost of doing business, and why you don't risk more than you can afford to lose. First loss on a DNM. Period. What I lost pales in comparison with the savings to time and money made by not street-buying.

Hell, for all I know, abraxas might even return.

[2 Points] rabbitsfootx:

true. I lost 8$ but with the price of BTC falling and the fact I wait a week for it to arrive means I might not be able to pay shipping for my latest desired order(s)

[2 Points] tattood:

Alternatively, try not to over-deposit too much. I understand with btc flux it's inevitable, but personally I would never withdraw from a market, especially not for something so small (think it's unnecessarily risky). If you have a little left over and don't want to lose it, donate to erowid or something. I lost a little money every time a market went down (sr1, sheep, sr2 but I got that back eventually), but nothing worth withdrawing

[2 Points] Remtrex:

I sat there for 4 days after I bought what I wanted looking for something I could spend what I had left on.. When I decide to go on and get something it's gone! I was so ungrateful for those 4 days!

[2 Points] sleepingbears1:

I moved $400 into my AB wallet the night before it went dark. Nothing could have saved me except waiting until the next day to move it. Just a victim of timing and theft.

[1 Points] The_Cold_Tugger:

Yep. Lost $60 when silk road 1 was seized. Not a lot but oh well

[1 Points] Hitman__Actual:

Yup. 0.52BTC gone. At least I got to spend the other 0.48. It was just expensive weed. Nice stuff though.

[1 Points] druggieslut:

Why do we have to deposit money into a market at all? Why can't we just deposit the amount directly to escrow from a private wallet??

[1 Points] None:

So abraxas is definitely exit scamming? Is middle earth? Sorry, a little late on the scene.

[1 Points] None:

Just keep your "over-deposits" between 0 and 10 dollars.

[1 Points] an_illegal_smile:

I usually keep about ten or fifteen bucks in my wallet on every market, just for those annoying little overages where the rate jumps and you suddenly need a few bucks more. Never more than $20 USD, though, nothing that would hurt. I always thought one of the points of the transaction was to get that coin there only when you're ready to spend it, and spend it fast, don't leave it sitting. I mean, it is a DNM wallet. All kinds of things happen. It's not Bank of America (not nearly thievish enough, for one thing.)

[1 Points] SgtFaecesProcessor:

Man, you obviously haven't been around here long. In the last two years its become abundantly clear you shouldn't keep any extra coin in your accounts when possible.

[1 Points] shortforwhat:

Obviously, I only deposit enough for purchase.

[1 Points] thewilloftheuniverse:

That's why I keep all my bitcoins at Coinbase!

[1 Points] Tweek-er_Timmy:

i was lucky an only lost 17$ from abraxas, but my fav. vendor wasnt as lucky so i gave em an extra $100 but then it disapeared due to the BTC drop.

[1 Points] earthmoonsun:

on one of the markets (forgot which one) you are told to deposit the exact amount during the order process, so a buyer will never leave anything there

[1 Points] somanyroads:

I guess people never learn this...silk road taught me that years ago. The darknet is not for storing bitcoin, stick to a regular, clearnet wallet or cash it out for physical money.

What if you don't give a fuck?
