Ross Ulbricht's lawyer: Alleged police corruption casts doubt on entire Silk Road trial

http://www.dailydot.com/crime/dratel-silk-road-dea-arrest-statement/

When two federal agents were arrested for stealing from the government and Silk Road, the news did not come as a surprise to Joshua Dratel.

The lead defense attorney for recently convicted Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht, Dratel knew about the corruption investigation for months but was forced to "sit on" it through months of pre-trial hearings and the two-month criminal trial earlier this year that saw Ulbricht found guilty of seven felonies for operating the online black market.

"The government's considerable efforts at keeping this monumental scandal from being aired at Ross Ulbricht's trial is itself scandalous," Dratel said in a statement to the Daily Dot.

Dratel goes into some detail about how he thinks this investigation colored the trial in a significant way. Check it out.

I would love to see Ross have his case overturned.

Its not only good for Ross, but it'll show just how dirty LE are when they are trying to take someone down.

Damn if Ross gets his case overturned. Talk about sticking it to the man.

[14 Points] WhereIsMyLSD:

This is great if it can potentially change the whole outcome of the case. Doubtful though, as LE seem to live by different standards and laws than us citizens do

Don't know how much people would agree with me but LE were desperate to pin SR on someone. Guessing they wanted to send the message that if you are doing this sort of thing you are findable and you will face serious charges. If the charges were dropped I assume LE would be thinking that the people behind the other big markets would be thinking that they would get off easy if they were caught. I could be wrong.

YES!!!!!!!!!!Mistrial!!!!!!!!!!!!

[2 Points] imanoname:

This lawyer is an idiot, if he knew about the investigation during any part of the trail, and not delaying the trial until after the investigation. He would have had a much better chance at acquittal once the investigation was public. Best chance for new trial now - claim attorney was a fuckin' idiot.

Does this come as any surprise? Of course this is great news for Ross. Man shit is getting interesting around here lol

[1 Points] xeddmc:

Totally agree. Wouldn't this be seen as possible tainted evidence?
