Tracking Packages Dangers

Why is it dangerous to track an expected package via USPS? I've heard this can be risky but I'm not sure why. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it.

How a drug dealer’s IP was found out by package tracking.

Tracking a package is useless. If the package is gonna make its way to you it will and nothing will stop it. Tracking it won't change a thing and will only add a negative risk effect to the whole process.

Order - Wait - Relax a bit (Do bars if necessary) - receive and done. See ? Tracking was not added to that chain which I call the peace of mind chain.

if the package is found and you checked the tracking from your home IP it's quite difficult to deny you ordered it. If you use Tor it's a bit better worse even, as they can flag Tor users checking tracking and they might be able to correlate the time of you connecting to Tor with the time of tracking being checked if you don't take precautions against that. There's probably more stuff that can potentially bite you in the ass, but i can't judge how likely it is that LEO will actually use any of these techniques. depends on what amounts we're dealing with i guess. A lot of people use tracking routinely so it doesn't seem like a huge issue overall, but i seem to remember reading about somebody getting busted because he checked tracking from his home IP.
