The Shadow Project - Anonymous Cryptocurrency, Encrypted Messaging & Decentralised Marketplace

With what's gone on over the last week I thought now would be a good time to introduce people (who aren't already aware of it) to The Shadow Project.

We've been trying to make it easy for people to do everything they're used to doing online - chatting/trading/sharing files etc. - whilst maintaining their privacy. So far it consists of:

The current phase of development is centred upon the creation of a decentralised marketplace - ShadowMarket - which will also be integrated into the ShadowCore client and will make use of the encrypted messaging system. Joseph Cox has just written a piece on it for Motherboard which includes some of the designs:

The Race for the First Decentralised Silk Road Is On

We've a development team of seven (including one cryptographer) and there was no Initial Coin Offering or pre-mine so they're mostly unpaid (beyond community donations). Nonetheless their passion for the project and its goals has resulted in a rate and quality of development that's pretty remarkable. The project's open source (GitHub repo) and we're always glad to have more people aboard so if there are any developers who'd like to contribute please get in touch.

When the market's complete it'll give users access to a wide-scale, distributed and decentralised private economy via a single application (available on all major platforms). If you'd like to try the wallet out now it's available from our website (use the bootstrap for faster syncing).

If you've any questions please leave them below and if I can't answer them I'll do my best to find someone who can.

P.S. There was a post on another sub about the market a few days ago, and I'm not sure if this was over-enthusiastic supporters of the project or if it was a sly form of trolling... but no one believes it when someone posts from a brand new account saying: "I got 48 hunnert bitcoinz and im gonna put dem all shadow!!!"
So please don't. :P

Unit tests, intergration tests, fairly clean CPP and leveldb. Interesting...

Doesn't cloakcoin offer this as well? EDIT: and NXT has a "freemarket" with "concorde" (escrow).

As I'm trying to get on to the only market we trust right now, Agora, and fail to get it to load. I pray for this.

This is really looking promising now. Heres a good article on the ShadowSend anon system also if anyone didn't see it

I get this on Linux Mint KDE after unpacking and starting the client:

./shadow: error while loading shared libraries: libQt5WebKitWidgets.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It has external dependencies even being compiled as a static binary?

So wait. Shadowcrew was Verto/Kimble's old carding group? Have you addressed that anywhere?

  1. Your site is cloudflared, roadblock for tor users.

  2. Your post claims there was no premine or IPO, the website says

6.4m SDC after the first two weeks mined

This is a premine, even if it took a whole two weeks. This means everyone who buys SDC is lining the pockets of the shadowcoin insiders. Your site also states the decentralized market aspect of it is only 25% done. Why are you advertising it?

If you want to do things right, kill off your coin, start over with a slow even distribution of coins over a long span of time, and beat OB to development, because they already have a functioning system that runs on bitcoin, and as far as i can tell theres no fiat to SDC exchange which severely limits your currency.

Hey, this looks very promising. I have three questions.
