I know it feels bad to promote an altcoin, But, you shall use "Monero", if you want to protect your privacy absolutely.

I am always a fan of Bitcoin and Monero. People can track your identities easily through "blockchain" if you use bitcoin to buy and sell. It's so called "pseudo-anonymous".

To be honest, Bitcoin is not designed to help hiding illegal activities.

Instead, if you use "Monero", which is not traceable inherently, no one can trace your money.

"Monero" is the only altcoin that is not traceable, inherently. That is, no open blockchain.

If you have any question, you can ask /r/monero for help. That community has a large user base and is so kind always.

I checked out mining it and my anti virus had a heart attack.

Here's the thing. There are a bunch of other crytocurrencies, and they all claim to be better in this way or that way.

How do I go about choosing one? Well, obviously I just choose Bitcoin because any place would only be setup for Bitcoin, and not another cryptocurrency.

I don't know, Bitcoin may not be the best, but it was the first, and it is the only one that has gotten pretty big. I can name a few other ones of the top of my head, but I can't think of a place where you could actually spend them. I've seen a couple of DNMs that take various crytocurrencies, but I wonder if they have people actually using those.

Shit, when I first head about bitcoin it was $6/coin and then a couple years down the road, it shot up to 1200 one day. But mainly around that time it was between 700-800 pretty steadily. Litecoin is $4, maybe I should buy them with everything I own. And then when I'm homeless, I'll look it up a couple years later and be like "holy shit, I'm rich!".

lol prob not though now that there are many different options.

My problem with Monero is the idea of using it once you've obscured the source through their blockchain. Even if you get BTC and send it to an exchange that uses Monero, wouldn't it be possible to tie your identity to the coin if you say, okay somebody sent in this X BTC to the exchange, then X (minus any fees and loss due to a changing exchange rate) monero came out.

I'm just not too clear how you'd actually cleanly break the paper trail, especially since all exchanges would keep logs of trades going on in their website.

Monero is based on the Cryptonote protocol, which was a little tainted by the "Bytecoin" currency which preceded it - interesting example of a mass deception though.

When it comes to privacy and security, Monero is well ahead of BTC, thanks to the way its "blockchain" works - if you want to really simplify things then consider its like the BTC blockchain but double encrypyted - its nearly impossible to trace a coin let alone a user, but easy for you to prove you sent some coin.

Problem at the moment is that its marketplace is very limited - would be great to see a major DNM add it as a tradeable currency, but so far you can only really use it on Poloniex exchange. Unlike many competitors it has stayed relatively stable since its public launch - if you bought $100 worth around a year ago it would still be worth about the same today. Doesn't sound great but for a new crypto-currency that isn't bad!

sure monero is anonymous now but what about scaling ifit is adopted? Wasn't early bitcoin anon?

[1 Points] None:

customers can start using any alt currency once a market incorporates it into the website and payment/escrow system . The only market that used to do this was Nucleus with litecoin and dark/dash coin but they exited (still not 100% about the scam part)

[1 Points] blockmains:

The costs of using shapeshift is way too much! 2-3% fees to convert XBT to XMR and on top of that, couple of other fees and then another % to change Monero to BTC!

Is there another alternative to use Monero? I change around 10 BTCs and pay around 0.5 in fees, that is ridiculous.

[1 Points] OGIDGT:

Just buy your BTC anonymously and you'll be fine.
