College OPSEC?

Does anybody know proper OPSEC for college dorms? I have an off-campus address to mail to, but getting on the dark net is what's giving me hassle. I'm aware that colleges know when you're accessing Tor, but would there be anything to tip them off that I'm ordering drugs? Using public wifi doesn't seem like a good idea considering how vulnerable it is, and in any case most of the vendors I buy from, ie HoS, are only off of vacation mode at times when coffee shops and other public networks are closed.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I've read about getting a VPN but I'm very hazy on the set up and how to use them.

When you connect to the Tor network your packets are encrypted, so using a public WiFi network isn't an issue because all the traffic is encrypted even if the WiFi network isn't. I really doubt that your school monitors for Tor traffic, but if they do then you can pretty much guarantee that you'll get an email telling you to stop (why else would they be monitoring for it). A VPN would work I guess, but it seems like it would be a little over your head.

I believe that if you use bridges and protocol obfuscation your campus wont be able to know you are connected to Tor. Google it and set it up, setting up bridges at least is pretty simple, the obfuscation part I havent bothered yet.

More info: bridges are nodes not publicly listed, so if the monitoring by your college is checking whether you connect to the ip of a public listed Tor node this is enough to fool them. Obfuscation will mask the data leaving your computer to fool the more advanced monitoring where the adversary is inspecting the data being sent from you as belonging to the tor protocol.
