where's a good place to discuss online anonymity

I have multiple questions about socks5 servers. I currently bought a private socks5 proxy & I run said proxy with a socks5 cap. it seems to work well but my only concern is that the socks5 cap makes me use the proxy through Internet Explorer, and from what I've heard IE leaks information that can potentially lead back to you.

I've tried just entering my purchased socks5 port and IP on Firefox but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm wanting to know what's the best way to utilize your socks5 proxy

The better question is what is your intent with the proxy?

I don't see it as an advantage to have a static proxy somewhere between your connection, VPN, and TOR.

When I use a VPN, I know that IP address has been used, and will be used by many other people. This makes my tor traffic even more difficult to track since it gets muddled with so much other traffic on the same address.

In your case, you have a private proxy which means the only traffic going in and out of it is...yours. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it is actually harmful if you go from your connection to the proxy, then to TOR/VPN, but I'm just not seeing a benefit.

Here is how my traffic looks:

My computer -> My ISP -> VPN -> TOR

Advantages:

My ISP never sees that I'm on TOR. This is cool.

My traffic to/from tor is conducted in another country, with better data laws than the US.

Even if there was somehow a vunerablity with TOR that reveailed my IP address, all you get is the address of a VPN not my real address.

No speed difference with VPN.

What are your goals? In what way does a SOCKS5 proxy meet them in ways that Tor cannot?

Why are you using a socks5 proxy instead of a VPN?

In what way are you configuring Firefox to use the SOCKS proxy?

What software are you using as your "socks5 cap"? How is it configured?

I would like very much to help you, but to do so, I'll need the answers to these questions.
