"The petite, unassuming young Asian woman sitting across from Ross this whole time was, to everyone’s surprise, also an FBI agent.

Fuckin ninjas! Ross never stood a chance.

It's already been put into practice.

They were unsuccessful in one thing during the raid, however: acquiring Stefan’s laptop while it was still booted up. While he was suddenly being yanked off the bench, he was somehow still able to pull the power cord from his laptop, which had no battery. Even if the police restart the laptop, its encrypted hard drive will be password-protected.

The best way would probably to wrap your powercord around your leg so that if you moved away from the table it would pull loose or at least drag the laptop off the table.

and don't keep a diary of your illegal activities

Tails is already designed to purge all crypto keys and start wiping volatile memory if the Tails medium is removed - just using a Tails flash drive with a wrist strap would probably do the trick. The feds already have some crafty things to ensure that power is not interrupted - they seize plenty of computers without batteries and are prepared for that.

There's also SWATd, which can do all kinds of neat things in this vein.

I disagree with this. How they got his info was, yes, by taking his laptop, but then inserting a USB drive that cloned the hard drive. I like the ideas here but if they managed to get it the ultimate solution would be this to stop them cloning it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USBKill If a device that isn't on the specified "white list" is inserted, it will either encrypt the hard drive, return to lock screen, shut down, or delete all the data on the drive. In DPR's case, even if they managed to keep the device on if it didn't have a battery, they aren't going to set up a IT lab in a public library.

if my life ever comes down to daydreaming about hypothetical shit like this i will immediately remind myself I'm a small fish in a ocean, more likely to say something stupid to the wrong person or get pulled over with illegal substances than have an invisible army of agents all chasing me down for my small amounts of personal use drugs. you really need a hobby, a pet maybe even a girlfriend.
