Sigaint Warning

Community,

As many are aware, Sigaint has been down recently. The Sigaint folks aren't idiots and are clearly pretty smart and savvy. Its been mentioned that they have been unusually quiet lately on other forums and other places where they might otherwise usually speak.

We have no clue what this might mean but keep these things in mind when the service does come back up.

This also serves as a good time to remind the community about the use of any third party platforms. Remember, what is safe today might not be safe tomorrow - honestly, you never know what is safe today anyway. Be aware of this when communicating sensitive information. PGP wasn't designed only for Darknet markets. PGP should be used anytime sensitive information is communicated to another party. Cleartext of illegal/sensitive information on any third party platform is always a concern. I have a feeling that some people might have been unduly comfortable communicating on Sigaint b/c it wasn't a Darknet market. Many vendors use email platforms to conduct business - always, always use PGP when transmitting anything sensitive.

WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ARE PEOPLE STILL USING SIGAINT??

Can somebody honestly explain or justify this for me? Does no body remember them having such poor security that every account was compromised?

Amen. I hope they didn't get blackop'd by the three-lettered agency.

That sucks, now on another front lelantos has shit support and only recently let me send emails because their shit dashboard just woulnd't let me re-new subscription, works for free now which is nice but still they took months to help me out.

So if you guys use lelantos buy 1 year package because renewing is impossible...

This is said every time a service goes down. The last email service seizure was a complete fuckin' meltdown. At this point, if you don't use PGP for everything, you're only threatening your own safety.

That said, what's a quality alternative if they don't come back? I liked Sigaint.

perhaps sigaint and the hub were possibly hosted on freedom hosting ii? collateral damage maybe? https://www.deepdotweb.com/2017/02/09/anonymous-hacks-freedom-hosting-ii-bringing-almost-20-active-darknet-sites/

I haven't seen it brought up yet but is anyone here familiar with lavabit? It was the email service Snowden was using to communicate with reporters. The gov went after the owner and said that he had to hand over the encryption keys. He cooperated, by printing them in 2 size font, handed that to them and shut down. Now he is re-launching it soon with added features. It is a paid subscription that will be supported heavily. I hope this can be utilized by this community in the future. There are tools that will allow you to also run your own secure email server. lavabit dot com

Protonmail over TOR + PGP and your good to go!

So /u/Theeconomist1 what are a cpl or even a single email service that you would recommend for the occasional DN user that seems safe?

A new theory on Sigaint:

Goes back to Besa mafia. The "fake hitman website" that sounded corny and suspiciously "leaked" customer lists & just happened to use Sigaint for their hire a hitman emails. Did they REALLY get hacked in april? Or was that just more evidence to further warrants?

I believe unknown LE set up Besa Mafia website as way of a honeytrap. All may have started as a plan to go after sigaint for the taunting front page msg about "Making 3 letter agencies cry."

What "scam artist" would use arson on a vehicle just to prove the legitamacy of a fake hitman website? Would it not make more sense for LE to just use a car from forfeiture in order to further such a deep cover "criminal" case? It starts to make a lot of sense.

A honeypot so great in trapping it was able to gather warrants for sigaint just by design alone. Using besa@sigaint.org as their email was part of the plan. The twist is this honeypot will never be revealed in court. Target was sigaint. The mission accomplished :'( R.I.P /u/Sigaint

China banned bitcoin withdrawals as recent news. This made SIGAINT bitcoin dealings stop. Then SIGAINT has been poor enough to be impossible to maintain web site. Hidden Answers admin knows where SIGAINT admin went but is hiding it.
