If I'm LEO, I'm going to do one of two things, possibly both

I'm sure everyone has noticed the increased chatter about Monero. You've probably also noticed the increased pushback from people calling out "Monero shills".

If I'm LEO, I wouldn't want people using Monero - technical details aside, it's flat out more anonymous than Bitcoin. If I'm LEO and I'm tasked with an operation on the DN, I would spread FUD regarding the cryptocurrency as it makes my job more difficult. I might also go the opposite route and spam the subreddit with pro-monero talk to get the mods to clamp down or even ban the word there by indirectly helping me stop the talk.

If I'm a bitcoin miner or run a mining company, I also might do those very same things.

Just something to think about next time someone screams "Monero Shill!"

i don't think that the monero shills are promoting it because of any kind of association with law enforcement. I think they genuinely believe it's a more secure currency.

The only question in my mind is how many people promote the currency becuase they truly believe in the technology, and how many promote it because they themselves have a substantial share in Monero and they want its value to increase haha

And that's why you're not LEO.

Do not contribute to malice that which can be explained by ignorance and greed. Hardline Bitcoiners don't want Monero to succeed because anything that isn't Bitcoin succeeding takes away from their profit$. Soft bitcoiners don't want to be wrong, and Monero userbase has a lot of vocal and immature youth. Mix that all together and LEOs don't need to do anything to keep Monero down ... yet.

And if LEO mines bitcoin...

[2 Points] throwptk:

OP is not LE, and likely doesn't even hold monero.

Well thought out...thanks

Maybe you're just holding BTC and dont want monero to go up

[1 Points] pullNsnap1:

I swear I just read something about a college finding out a way to completely de-anonymize Monroe. I'm searching for the link right now.

Or maybe there's a cryptocurrency that's actually anonymous and monero is just a bunch of security theater. Law enforcement would want everyone to talk about monero, and ignore the one that provides real cryptographic guarantees.

The fun part is for a law enforcement officer, it doesn't matter if the discussion is pro-monero or anti-monero. All you need is that people learn to associate monero with "private transactions", the next time they go to buy a cryptocurrency.
