I made some very big opsec mistakes. A person is dead and the cops are involved. I need advice on how to proceed.

tl;dr made very poor opsec choices, a person is dead, and the cops want to talk to me and I think I might be in some hot water here

I'm going to lay this out as a timeline because it's the easiest way for me to write up the information. Just makes the most sense to me.

Fall 2013 - Summer 2014

I begin sampling a variety of drugs purchased on the darknet. I make the mistake of talking to friends about this on several occasions.

Late summer 2014

I start selling 25i and on several occasions I have discussed selling it to customers, including Dead Friend (DF from this point on), on Facebook. That was my first big mistake.

5 days ago, about 6 PM

DF dies in his car of an IV meth overdose. His little brother finds him several hours later.

DF's ex calls me and tells me about his death. She also tells me that my name has been mentioned to the police as someone DF was close to that was into drugs. Apparently word has gotten around that I use a variety of drugs, which is the result of several opsec mistakes over a long period of time.

Today, about 1 PM

I get a call from my local police department. I was expecting to be called, so I didn't answer, looked up the number, and realized who it was. They called back about an hour later. I continued to not pick up.

They will certainly be going through DF's phone (though it seems they haven't been in it yet), and they will probably find my messages with him where I discussed selling him 25i.

So, now for my questions on how to handle this:

Next OPSEC mistake: Go on Reddit and tell your story to the masses.

My advice ? Delete this thread and look into hacking services or info and hack his FB account.

TL;DR - Burn your house down, you're fucked

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, VOLUNTARILY ALLOW THE POLICE TO ENTER YOUR HOME.

DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE. IF YOU ARE ARRESTED, THERE ARE ONLY FOUR WORDS YOU NEED TO KNOW, AND WILL LIKELY HAVE TO REPEAT THEM: "I want my lawyer."

REMOVE THE ALL HARD DRIVES FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND STASH THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE. PREFERABLY NOT WHERE YOU STASHED YOUR PARAPHERNALIA.

IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE: lol sorry buddy you're fucked that's what you get for being an idiot and buying apple shit. best choice you got is to delete your apple account and destroy the phone or get it warrantied/replaced.

IF YOU HAVE AN ANDROID PHONE WITH A LOCKED BOOTLOADER: see above

IF YOU HAVE AN ANDROID PHONE WITH AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER/ROOT/CUSTOM RECOVERY: delete your google account, clear all history from the account (searches, app settings, etc). create a new google account from a new IP (public wifi, etc). go into your recovery (CWM) and wipe everything. dalvik, cache, user data, etc. push a new rom from a computer with adb onto your phone and flash it. sign in using your new google account.

MOST FUCKING IMPORTANTLY: DO. NOT. TALK. TO. THE. POLICE. NOTHING YOU SAY TO THEM WILL HELP YOU. NOTHING YOU SAY TO THEM WILL MAKE THEM CALL OFF THE INVESTIGATION.

EDIT: IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO GET A NEW HARD DRIVE, PHONE, ETC: GO FIND AN ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE THAT IS STILL BEING DEVELOPED AND NOT SHIT (AKA SYMANTEC, TRUECRYPT, ETC) AND ENCRYPT ALL OF YOUR DRIVES. DO NOT GIVE THE POLICE THE KEY. DO NOT GIVE THE POLICE THE KEY. DO NOT WRITE THE KEY DOWN. DO NOT MAKE THE KEY EASY TO GUESS. DO NOT GIVE THE POLICE THE KEY. DO THE SAME FOR YOUR PHONE. ANDROID AND APPLE PHONES BOTH HAVE DEVICE WIDE ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE BAKED RIGHT INTO THE OS. USE SOMETHING SECURE LIKE AES256, SWORDFISH, ETC.

You posting over tor?? you should probably delete this bro.

As to your situation, clean house and lawyer up. They have nothing on you if they get no evidence. You will be fine if you clean house, shut your mouth and hit the gym. I would even go on vacation to let some time go by. Trust me.

If you explicitly mention DNMs in any chats or anyone told the cops about DNM use they will take your computers. Wipe the drives. Restore your phone but texts will be saved by the telco

[3 Points] thrownawayagainkay:

The police can subpoena Facebook and undelete messages as part of an investigation, so I would advise against attempting to delete evidence like that. The same applies to SMS messages, call logs, unencrypted email that is hosted in a friendly country and so on, you can't take those back. As for local digital evidence, DBaN might look bad if they seize your machine, replacing your hard drive might be a better option.

If you block his account he when they go to look at the messages it wont say your name. IMO just go block his account and their will be no proof...

Okay so here's the thing. Sounds like they have evidence on you for being a supplier. That's never good. Is 25I illegal? I don't think it is but I could be wrong. I get rcs mixed up. Don't do em always end up having a bad trip and bein like take dis shit I don't want this toxic shit and give it to someone. Then regret it a half hour later cuz I want some more. At least that's how I was with synthetic cannabinoids. Regret that shit somethin fierce lol. But onto other point.... why would you post this in the MAIN dark net discussion site? The feds go trollin on here a lot too...

[1 Points] agorathrow80:

Did you sell him meth..or whatever he OD on? Doesnt seem like it from thenpost...if not..blow them off..talk to a lawyer ans have ones number. Unlesa they canprove you sold him what killed him...they cant do shit IMO...IANAL...BUT..seems like they are reching to make rhe family happy

[1 Points] sheeproadreloaded2:

In all probability, nothing will happen to you..

The best advice I can give is learn whatever you can from this situation - not only about OPSEC, but also the nature of people.

Sometimes there is a lesson to be learned, but not always. Sometimes its just a bunch of stuff with no moral.

I imagine there hasn't been a formal inquest into your friend's death. Most investigation will be concentrated before this.

It may turn out that meth wasn't the culprit. or at least, the sole culprit. Meth overdose deaths are very rare compared to coke or heroin.

[1 Points] energyinmotion:

Get a technology knowledgeable lawyer. End of story.

[1 Points] ima-kitty:

no no no dont tell the cops shit. you only flip if you are going away. when they ask to talk to you you ask for a lawyer and they only arrest you if they have somethiing they can charge you with. just don't say shit. keep ducking them. the more you say, the more they have against you.

[1 Points] polvb:

You sold him drugs, that's pretty much it. Not like you're responsible for his death.

But get rid of your pc, like right fucking now. Throw it in a fucking lake. Along with any personal info you have, such as facebook. Get rid of all of it.

[1 Points] morebeansplease:

The last time I checked, investigative organizations use evidence to put the pieces of a story together. I'm sure they would appreciate if you took the time to list the evidence for them, it would make their job easier. But realize these guys like the adventure of problem solving, I bet they play Sudoku like champs. It may be a better plan to reduce the amount of available evidence, let them earn their paychecks.
