Horay! It's a good thing the UN has such a massive influence over its member states and is so great at preventing human rights abuses and offers tit-wanks to lonely widowers.

Even if this happens there is exactly 0 chance that the united States follows the recommendation.

People here are way too pessimistic. Obviously that won't have any immediate impact on drug laws, but just the fact that people are starting to talk about ending the war on drugs on a global level is huge. That's the first step.

The war on drugs should be classified as a crime against humanity.
You have an endocannabinoid system on your body containing precursors and receptors specifically for THC. Yet its okay to lock A human in a cage for holding a plant. Your brain contains natural amounts of DMT but that's a scheduled drug. You should be arrested and put to death for a chemical that could only possibly harm you. The people behind this crucade need to pay restitution for the lives ruined and the families devastated from these forced rules. The polititicians associated with this charade of imbezelment and corruption need to be locked in prison with the rapists and serial killers only then will they realize the devastation and crimes against humanity they have been responsible for. Not even including the unreversible mental damage that these brave souls have experienced at the hands of the "american justice system"
There are so many other issues facing the world that we live in and some punk fucking three letter agent is more interested in keeping your brain chemistry
Exactly as the government wants it too be.
What's the next step for them? Either shut down these agencies or enact further amendments voiding more of our constitutional rights making it possible for the
United states to mandate drug testing for every united stated citizen.
When is the madness going to stop?
I hope they are ready for a civil war style revolt. And they are preparing because your local PD has become militarized. Look it up.
We the people are no longer the people.
We are the abused servants of a leader who doesn't respect us.

"As I'm writing this I am hearing that at least one government is putting an inordinate amount of pressure on the UNODC,"
We all know which one that is...

The UN is impotent. It can't do dick without the US. They can "dictate" all they want but at the end of the day, the US calls the shots. The UN also didn't want to go to war (I think it was against Iraq) and guess what, US still went to war. LOL.
I'm not a fan of hte UN anyway. Corrupt organization. While I like the sentiment here, I have little respect for the UN. And regardless, like I said, they can say what thye want, won't change a thing.
I know you weren't suggesting what I'm saying, I'm mainly venting :)

To bad this would absolutely never happen in this stupid mind controlled piece of shit country, The presidents of America literally are puppets being controlled by the bigger people who decide what they want the future to look like, its fucking pathetic and true, and ANYONE who disagrees with this statement is a mind controlled dumb fuck.

UN to call for end of trillion dollar industry giving poor a chance at wealth, profits to be controlled by big pharma instead.
Might as well say it like it is

The UN lol. I have more power than the UN.

As much as I'm happy that this side of the argument is being brought up, I doubt anything will change as the result. Both Russia and the US have a very strong public and political investment in the war on drugs which they won't be wanting to give that up, nor will any nation that willingly offers their ass to either of those 2 on a silver platter be willing to take it on board so that they don't piss off either faction of the world police.
What I see happening is that this will get the ball rolling for smaller nations to take a look at places like Portugal, Colorado, Uraguay etc and the successes they have had with legalization/decriminalisation, and begin to introduce that into their own policy. Other nations will follow suit and eventually they will all be forced to take notice.

Ha
The actual statistic for how much IV drug use has gone down since 2000 in Portugal is 50% 50 FUCKING %. Even half that is mind blowing, and we're talking about a country in which 1% of the population was addicted to heroin.
If you are a former addict they will find you a job and pay half your salary for a year as incentive to the employer. Had there been services like that when I was balls deep in H addiction, I probably would have gotten my shit together long ago
