Getting off benzos - anything out there to get through it?

edit: shit, should've specified - it's klonopin to be specific.. the worst one (4mgish daily)

Not my first time / I know what's coming / aware dangers etc, but supply too low to taper off properly and previous vendor closed their doors.. don't feel like risking a new one and I have a small window with the holidays so I'm going to go for it. Google etc. just shows the typical medical advice and so on and most subs like /r/drugs are against providing drugs advice so figured you guys might have a little more leeway here.

I can get some okay over the counter stuff (not much due to law changes) since I'm in Mexico but not sure what, if anything, I should get.

Current plan is modafinil, some valium for the extremes, and possibly booze (trade off would be a real shitty 1-2 days in bed but the initial paranoia hit might be too hard without it).. weed gives me monster panic attacks so not an option

Main concern is the paranoia/hallucinations/nightmares that will come.. Not sure if any of the above will address that part

edit2: I should mention I guess I'm still keeping an open mind to tapering off this crap long term but it's a problem of logistics on top of finding vendors at this point due to where I've moved - but if tapering long term is the only suggestion, I'd appreciate a vendor recommendation (but yeah, it's become so volatile, I would probably be unable/unwilling to use my previous addresses due to the risk)

You may have already seen this, but check out the Ashton Manual. It's a guide on how to safely withdraw from benzos, written by a UK physician. It walks you through a withdrawal plan step by step with a lot of good advice and suggestions.

You could ask your doctor for Gabapentin. It'll help with sleep and anxiety. It's non-habit forming

I have been addicted heavily to Benzos for the past 10 years. Powder form/20mg+ a day. I am currently down to 4mg a day after taping from 20mg a day very slowy. A quarter of a bar at a time at the end of every week. Then will switch to kpin, then to valium. I have beeen down this path before its unfortunate to say I always eventually come back to the benzos.

I decided xanax runs my life. I cant live with out it and its simply not fair to not have it. PLEASE dont abuse xanax. Wheen off them and use them when only needed so when you need the the most they will work fine.

some people like me just neeed xanax long term to function normally. I never would have went to xanax in the first place if my anxiety was not already killing me from the inside.

So best option is to ween off and only use single big does every once in a blue moon. Like when you did too much acid and you need to sleep, having a panic attack, an episode of insomia etc....

oh but do I love the months/ years of my life I spent washing down liquid xanax and bars down my thraot to sleep for MONTHS. Wish I could still do this :(

but remeber if you need xanax. dont forget to get it if you suffer of anxiety. sleep deprivation and REAL BAD anxitey etc...

ive been addicted to both heroin and xanax. Heroin I could quit. Xanax took its toll a lot harder in terms of getting off next to impossible after all these years.

Cut down .25 mg every 2 weeks and when you get down to 1mg switch over to 10mg of valium and cut down a mg per week. It's not that hard. It's not that uncomfortable and the peace of mind knowing you'll be off one of the most insidious drugs known to man will make the slight discomfort completely worth it. You just have to want it bad enough.

Promethazine worked wonders for me after 2 years on clonazepam but it's also habit forming so be careful. Diphenyhydramine is also another over the counter that is meant to work well but I can't get it in my country so can't speak on it personally.

As others have suggested, cross-tapering with a 'long-halflife' benzo (e.g. Valium) as suggested in the Ashton Manual will help. If you opt for a different benzo, make sure it has anti-seizure properties, as some benzos do not hit that particular GABA receptor (whereas kpins and valium do).

Simultaneously if you can acquire (either through a doctor or the DNMs) Propranolol (a non-selective beta blocker), this will alleviate the physical symptoms of rebound anxiety and panic that you'll probably experience while WD'ing. It's a very safe, non-addictive, non-narcotic medication. It's also known under the generic trade name 'Inderal'. 20-40mg per day (split over 2 doses 8 hrs apart) is probably about right. When done, make sure to taper off this as well, otherwise you may experience hypertension.

However, be aware of any interactions and contraindications (or are under medical supervision) which can be found here. The big one to watch out for is beta-blocker interaction with moderate-severe asthma: in this case beta-blockers could lead to a mild case of... death...

And I wouldn't recommend booze as a substitute unless really desperate; it's likely to hurt more in the long run (speaking from personal experience).

Thx for asking this, I was wanting to know same thing, but it's a pretty scary thought, have heard some horror stories. Would love to know how you go, good luck :)
