Question: Why is there such a negative view on Monero in the DNM sphere?

Lurker here and I'm genuinely curious as to why mentioning Monero at least here will attract all kinds of very negative opinions usually not backed by facts.

I would have understood this if we'd rewind a couple of months but a lot has happened since then and I have been watching its growth for a month and I'm as sure as I've ever been that Monero is here to stay.

Volatility is probably reason 123 for people not liking it but it is getting better by the day and in the end the thing that will fix that. I think people here need to wake up because Monero is clearly not going away.

If you have a contrary opinion I welcome discussion.

I fucking love Monero, it's all I use. Many people seem to be against it because of all the AB and Oasis pump and dump rumors, whether or not that's true is up for speculation but I don't think it should even matter. The people behind Monero don't have anything to do with it. Head over to r/Monero and check out their github and IRC, they will be happy to answer any questions you may have. They are a highly active group of developers working on an open source project for a truly fungible currency. You don't even need to be interested in Monero for the DNM part, its features (ASIC mining resistance) make it a valuable asset to have in the cryptocurrency world.

Monero has issues. Lack of multi-sig, the GUI is in beta (which is super slick and fast btw) and it has a lot of maturing to do before it can considered a stable currency. These are all reasons to get interested in the Monero project, not to stay away completely.

  1. Pump and dump
  2. No real need to use it over BTC
  3. Not many vendors accept it.

My main reason for not liking it is it's just not liquid enough at this point. Not many people around the world use it and it's not widely-traded enough yet to be able to sustain a large market cap. I believe you are correct in that it's not going away any time soon. However, the question remains of will it ever gain any sort of wide-spread adoption that's near the order of what Bitcoin has achieved. It certainly shows promise as a technical piece, I will say that. But when a single or two groups control over 30% of the total supply like AB and Oasis did, that's not a good sign for any coin and generally points to it eventually crashing and falling by the wayside.

Well, I was skeptical at first, but you've convinced me, good sir.

I mean, if the esteemed moderator of r/hobosjerkingoff (who's been watching Monero for an entire month) says Monero is where it's at, then I'm all in.

Mate Monero failed even after the top DNM adopted it and pushed its users to use it. How big of a looser do you want to get? Coming here and trying to remind people that Monero still exists. Let the shit coin go man, that ship has already sunk. The founders played you as a fiddle man, they cashed out with the initial blocks.

BTC is widespread. The community doesn't want to be de-vsted of assets. Market owners have so much BTC it's hilarious. Until we see a large bust we're not getting a large scale currency switch.
