The moment they started begging for money for their sec. audit back in 2014 I was like: "TrueCrypt Exit Scam confirmed".
It was quite foreseeable that the most popular encryption software on the planet would be compromised one or the other way sooner or later. At least they tried to warn us: http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/05/truecrypt-is-not-secure-official-sourceforge-page-abruptly-warns/
So he might as well have given it up, used the password somewhere else, a keylogger might have been used or a vast amount of other more plausible explanations.
Keep your sensationalist headlines for the defaults please.
