So, we've got Tor, VPN, Tails, etc. What's best to use?

I'm in search of the most effective way(s) to be completely anonymous on the darkweb. In addition to TOR, what should I be using? VPN? I'm about to download TAILS but now I'm even more confused after watching this dude's video as he states that TOR doesn't even work... Does he know what he's talking about? Anyone agree with him? I mean his ears don't even match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJTFofHzrUw

If you're worried about the digital side of opsec, your biggest worry is going to be traffic correlation attacks.

If you're just using Tor, your Internet Service Provider can see that you are using it, however, they should not be able to see what you are doing on Tor. To counter this, you have several options. The two most popular are VPNs and Tor Bridges. They both do very similar tasks. VPNs, usually paid for, allow you to run your traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a remote server so that your ISP can't see that you're using Tor, as they just see encrypted traffic through whatever protocol you're using.

Bridges, hosted by people all around the world, are free to connect to and because there is no public list of all bridges, it's difficult for agencies to know that you're connecting to a bridge, and all your traffic looks just like HTTPS traffic. If you're extra paranoid, and really want to anonymize yourself, go to a public area (like a library or community center) and connect to their internet, and then run your traffic to a bridge or through a VPN. What this will do is hide the fact that you're using tor from the community center and their ISP.

Also with Tails, the OS automatically randomizes your MAC address, so your computer cannot be traced, even by someone on the same LAN as you.

TL;DR: Use bridges/VPNs to hide traffic from ISPs, use public wifi to prevent traffic correlation attacks, use Tails to hide from adversaries on your local network.
