Rather than buying a cheap computer to run tails from, is it not easier to buy a mobile and sim with cash and run orbot/orweb from that?

No VPN needed, as there is no trace to the source of transactions?

Keep in mind that a connected mobile can be located up to around 20m, maybe even better in densely populated areas.

Even if your public identity is completed disconnected from owning the phone and the SIM card you can quickly make mistakes that associate you with them.

The anonymous phone moving from cell to cell with your public phone is the worst mistake you could make. But even if you never forget not have the two registered at the same location an attacker could find the pattern.

To be safe with your solution you'd have to make it your habit to irregularly switch your public phone off, leave it at home and make your home internet traffic look like you're there or have someone move your public phone along a route you usually take while you are somewhere else with the hidden phone.

Also keep in mind that a smartphone capabable of properly running Orbot and Orbweb will come with a lot of sensors that can be used to eavesdrop or even close in on your identity in other ways, for example by recognizing your walking pattern using the accelerometer once an attacker has breached the device.

So apart from all the running around and having someone walk your phone you'd also have to dis- and reassemble the hidden device and at least install a custom ROM that's open source. I will not address the issue of using closed source hardware here since it's an equally valid concern with the Tails solution.

Of course, some of these surveillance techniques are expensive, maybe even too expensive to implement. But in the end you probably spend more money on the phone solution than even a dedicated Tails notebook and you increase the potential of human failure.

Very bad idea. Not only will you not get the same experiences as you would with a PC but there is some major security issues with this method.

Cheap computers are easy to come by, invest in one to really improve your OPSEC.

Have you ever tried to use orweb? What a shitty browser.

Don't u have mounds of computers to choose from like the rest of us?

Why not just run tails from your regular computer? The whole point is that it doesn't leave any traces or leak any information about your hardware.
