Concern: Darknet not so dark anymore?

Yesterday I've seen 2 articles about Darknet in mainstream media, they mentioned TOR, Alphabay, drugs and weapons. They were a reaction to that autist from Munich, who supposedly got his glock for his killing spree from some darknet-forum.

I hope we all see this is a huge issue. Too much publicity around soccer-moms can have an immense impact on the security of our markets.

It is necessary to turn the heat down a bit. Since weapons seem to be a bigger issue compared to drugs, it would be a step in the right direction if all markets removed the weapons category. Some markets already did this, huge respect for that.

I understand that the majority of this sub are either bartards, irresponsible teens, or both - but maybe someone has more ideas how we could deal with this problem.

tl;dr: recent publicity about darkweb is dangerous

I say we all take two tabs of this LSD that I had sent to my mom's house under my dog's name and think about it again in the morning.

The whole Silk Road case already popped the cherry. It already has mainstream awareness. You have people giving TED Talks about TOR, how dissidents use it and how drugs are bought and sold on it. There's no way for it to get more hot. Unless they bring a whole federal agency into existence to combat it, I don't think there's any additional scrutiny being brought to it now.

More attention just weeds out the weaker markets more quickly. If a market is vulnerable simply because it is in the news, then it isn't a very secure market.

Yeah I agree w/ OP but unfortunately Its kinda like the cat's been let out the box so theirs always going to be that guy who exploits and tells others about the shit...:/

It hasn't been dark since the gawker article on Silk Road and multiple 3 letter agencies going after Ross.

Hello,

We don't have a 'Weapons' category (anymore, but never been used anyway), but we don't think that it will change much.
Today we're the enemy, tomorrow the enemy will be someone else, and this will go on forever. It's politics, don't worry too much about it, keep a good up to date opsec.

I doubt this is possible, because people will always be swayed by price, selection, and convenience, but if people could band together and boycott markets that have gun listings, it would be a great start.

If a boycott had even a small effect on market profits, they could probably be swayed, because I doubt they make much in commissions on guns.

Who cares if the markets make the news. Just like drugs they will never be able to get rid of them. When one gets taken down another will pop up. Even seen some vendors operating on the clearnet now. What are they going to do? Remove the internet? lol

Shut up you moron.

Everybody needs to discover DNMs, bitcoin and Tor browser. That's the only way it will take over the world drug trade. Every policeman in the world knows about them being the second-safest way to trade drugs. Most of the drug trade is still doing it the stupid way.

I suppose that everybody who heard about silk road after you did is stupid, right?

Stupid people always think that. Its this kind of thinking which has killed the development of DNMs stone dead. I make my entire living selling drugs for bitcoin. I don't give you permission to censor my workplace like you own it, DNM amateur.

Somebody was foolish enough to tell YOU about it, and without a hint of irony you want to pull the rope ladder up after yourself, like an immigrant complaining about all these new immigrants coming here and taking all our jobs.

The cops are already trying their hardest. Do you think they're just not really trying and they're going to try harder because a soccer mom tells them to? Soccer moms would LOVE to make the streets safer. What if I thought that everybody after me was too stupid to use Agora or BMR on the pikonet? I bet some of you are only hearing about them for the first time.

I mean.. its not like the people that can do something about it don't know. If they could do shit, it would be done.

i believe if nothing can be done to this time nothing will be done after this point

No, publicity really isn't an issue. What we WANT is MORE people using this shit (no, I'm not joking/being sarcastic). Here's why:

For one, more people using Tor for their needs = potentially more legitimate traffic fucking with anyone running a honeypot and such.

Two, more people will generally equal more markets. The more markets there are, the harder everything will be to take down. It's a good thing for us all, security-wise, to have more variety in potential marketplaces, for much the same reason that having a varied field of investments is a safer plan: when one thing goes wrong (or one market gets taken down), you've got 10 other things still going right.

Third, think of it this way: the more people that are attracted to wanting anonymity for their needs, the more people that there are who can put their minds to it. New developers, new ideas, new ways of staying safe. Yes, more media coverage could cause an uproar in some soccer moms somewhere that want more funding put towards taking us all down and out, but that extra media coverage goes two ways.

So what you're saying is "If yall stop doing illegal shit, people won't think yall do illegal shit"?

[-1 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

Does it really matter?

Darknet markets and the Tor network are only for the plebs who aren't cool, and to act as a decoy for LE. All the serious trading and things we actually need to keep secret have been on the pikonet for the last year.

Its OK for me to say it, because we know that LE have heard about the PN as of last week. But it still won't get them in there. There is more trade taking place on the two big pikonet markets than ALL of the Tor-based markets combined, its good to finally be able to talk about it in front of people who think they're cool because they can access a market which ANYBODY can access.

You guys don't decide who's cool and who's not cool enough to download tor browser. Because you wouldn't still be using non-Pikonet markets if you were cool. They're only there to keep the riff raff and the cops too busy to fill out a PKN application.
