Package sent to ex-inhabitants of the house

I was wondering if ordering a package to your house with people, who used to live there before, names on it wouldn't make you completely unattached to the package?

Let's say I live in a house which gets rented by different people every year. After they move out and I move in, I still continue to get some junk mail registered on them. So theoretically, I can order with their names and my address (which is absolutely normal) and in case of any suspicions I get nothing to lose and am completely irresponsible of what's been sent to previous inhabitants. This would obviously work if I had no traces to the order on my computer.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to think about this, though I couldn't find a proper explanation to this situation. What are your thoughts on such situation and are there any flaws in it?

Address forwarding doesn't apply to junk mail, IIRC. It's entirely possible that junk mail addressed to Joe X. Tenant would land in your mailbox while your DNM order would be forwarded to his new address. Joe might not be expecting an eight-ball of crystal meth. He might even call the police to let them know someone had mailed him contraband. And when/if an investigation starts one of the first lines of inquiry would be "is the new tenant receiving drugs under the previous tenant's name?"

At best, you're increasing the chance of never seeing your package. At worst you're increasing your chances of getting a knock-and-talk with the police. Don't do it.

I am not trying to say this is a good idea or common practice, but one of my closest friends used to get lbs of weed sent to his PO box. He was not getting it from DNMs, was some guy in Cali that he knew. Once the PO box expired he got lazy and decided to ship just one package to his house before getting a new box. Surprise surprise, cops come knocking on the door demanding to know who ordered the package. They round up everyone in the house, threaten to get them all expelled from school/taken to jail if they do not narc out whoever ordered the package. There are dozens of pieces of weed paraphernalia and small quantities of weed all over the house, the cops basically say they do not care about any of the small stuff and just want to know who ordered the package and everyone else will be left alone. Everyone points out that the name on the package is a previous tenant, and that there is literally junk mail from the day before still in the mailbox. After a few hours of threats/blustering, they take the package and leave, never to be heard of again. Friend continues to sell lbs of weed out of the SAME GODDAMN ADDRESS for close to 6 months as if nothing happened. He did move out once the lease was up.

Obviously this should not be taken as a standard police encounter, and I really want to stress that I am NOT trying to recommend that this is good standard procedure for shipping goods. In fact, it is entirely possible that the old tenant name is what got the police interested in the first place. If anyone had freaked out and narced him out he would have been fucked, he was extremely lucky. I just know there are very few documented regarding controlled deliveries and figured you guys might be interested.

And for clarification, they were not exactly subtle about what was in the package, they were very confident they were going to get somebody to narc him out. I do not think this is normal for most controlled deliveries. This is why it's good for everyone in your residence to be both trusted and at least have some prep for what to do in case of a police encounter.

Still a bad idea but hey why use the search bar if other people can spoon-feed you.

Im guessing you are a student of some sort if you are renting for a year? If so then I say go for it. I have done it on several occasions.

As for mail forwarding, if you are recieving mail of the previous tennant that has a return address on it... there is no mail forwarding set up.

Edit: Of course the only down side to this is it is illegal to open someone elses mail. So you could end up in more trouble if you are caught.
