Upcoming State of the Sub
It has been a long while since we've put out a State of the Sub. This is on top of my list. I'm hoping we can get something out in the next couple of days. There's quite a bit to talk about: new mods and upcoming policy changes.
Sub Criticism
There was a thread regarding the sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkNetMarkets/comments/4svfwk/the_state_of_this_sub/
Here's the thing, I know /u/dlayover123 was in contact with /u/sapiophile regarding accusations of doxxing by minerva. He had also supplied me information regarding this matter. I spoke with sap and I trust his judgement and his thoroughness and he felt while there were some odd things, there wasn't anything cut and dry. For one, much of the accusations of doxxing did not occur on this sub, to my knowledge. We don't moderate other subs. Members accused of doxxing should be dealt with by the Reddit admins. If we see someone doxxing on our sub, they will be banned. I never saw this from /u/minervathrowaway on this sub.
I've also seen "evidence" from another perspective. I honestly don't know what the hell is going on. If there is solid evidence that a user is doxxing, the Reddit admins should be dealing with it. If doxxing appears on our sub, we ban the member and report to Reddit admins. /u/dlayover123 does say that he is in contact with Reddit admins regarding this matter, as he should be.
The situation is extremely muddied. I think we've all seen the back and forth b/w Pelican, minerva and dlayover123. Like I said, I've seen some of the other perspective as well and I have no clue what's going on. There have been accusations and innuendos and such.
Seeing this play out in the sub is getting old. And its stopping now. I see /u/dlayover123 essentially stalking any thread mentioning Pelican, not offering anything new to the discussion other than to say shit and then it goes back and forth. Bottom line - if there is proof, let the Reddit admins know, show the proof, and they will ban the user permanently. Honestly, the level of this makes me think there is much more to the feud b/w these 3. And its not going to play out in the sub anymore. And on the flip side, we are probably going to change how we approach vendor's marketing on the sub, especially the more guerilla marketing tactics. There have been a ton of complaints in this area as well.
So given there is a lot of criticism regarding the sub's content, we are going to show that we listen. I'm working with the other mods on fine tuning what we'll be doing, but there will be a big change in how we approach things and how we moderate and curate content. In a nutshell, we aren't going to let juvenile antics play out here anymore. This is a place to discuss the DNM's, not anything else. When we release the State of the Sub, we'll better outline the changes in our moderating policy. I sometimes feel I'm fielding arguments between kids. Half the time its pretty much saying "Stop pulling your sister's hair!" So given there seems to be a consensus that the sub is heading in the wrong direction, we are prepared to change course and change how things are done.
Again this will be outlined further in the State of the Sub.
