Reduction of harm is the superior way forward. Its good to see scientific decisions hitting the streets in the USA. How to catch up the rest of the country?
[4 Points] MerryPrankster1967:
It is true.
Not like it stopped anyone from shooting up anyways, sadly like most everywhere else, its epidemic proportions here.
I'm from the area, and just lost (Another) good friend to a heroin overdose recently.

They should franchise these like Starbucks.

First in the nation? Not if NY, Boston or SF have anything to say about it!
(said with loving solidarity and encouragement for our friends in Seattle)

This seems to be a very good step to removing at least a tiny bit of stigma towards drugs. It's nice to know at least some people in this area are taking a step forward in harm reduction.
Hopefully it'll even come with purity tests or some shit too, if they get adequate funding.

It's true and it's a great step, but man... it's kinda a trip how falsely they are marketing it. They keep talking about everyone whose lives are being ravaged by H in PNW, and how this will let them get back to being normal citizens (these are words of politicians talking to news). By all means there will be resources inside of the gallery that will hook up addicts with possibilities of rehab/detox, living spaces, jobs, etc etc, but the gallery itself isn't going to solve all of their issues.
It is beautiful to see that there are steps being made to take care of these people, though - ODs should drop pretty decently in the vicinity of wherever this will be opening at.
I can tell you they are not the only state or place to consider legal shooting galleries in the US. IMO it's a good ideal as it keeps junkies off the street and provides a safe environment for users to use. I also believe that most if not all legal shooting galleries in Canada have no reported deaths due staff being on hand to quickly administer narcan if needed. That said the vast majority of the public doesn't support these sites and don't understand or care about harm reduction. It will be interesting to see how this turns out and what the local public will feel about it.
