Do you mean Tails, or another distro? Tails has tor on it, and it is booted from a usb. You don't need to uninstall windows, it runs from memory.

Edit: I just realized that last part rhymed lol.

You can and should, it's best for opsec to run tails off a USB drive and persistent partition with a strong password.

I actually keep my DNM account l/ps and PGP key only on that Tails key, just in case i'm tempted to get lazy and order from my main PC

Yes you can, it's called running it 'live'. Pretty much any (all?) linux distros allow this, basically when you put an iso image in and boot to it, like if you were going to be downloading that OS, you're frequently able to 'try' it directly from the media (dvd, usb SD devices, etc) before downloading the iso to your hard drive as your primary OS. This type of usage is 'live', and while you could do this with, say, linux mint, most here would probably want to run the linux distro 'tails' for many reasons. [edit: also, tor is a bundle of stuff that allow more anonymous internet browsing, and can be run in live stuff - plz note that you'd have to install tor if you were using a regular linux live distro, whereas some distros will come already including tor, and tails is one such distro!]

/r/DarkNetMarketsNoobs has a guide on using TAILS (including installing it onto a USB flash drive).
