After MLP did such an amazing job of cleaning up the subreddit, and we are working on some final additions like rules clarification and explaining the reasons we have to had them, we feel next we need a new banner. We had constant complaints about the appearance of the site making people uncomfortable browsing if there was a chance someone might come by and see it. Most of us agreed with the complainers but we not in a position to change that. Now we are, and have decided it's time to build a new one.
We are ironing out the final details - prizes will be awarded, etc, but in short: We will run a contest for two weeks (in true contest mode, so downvoting the competition won't work... sorry) and the top 3 will win prizes, and the top will be used as our new banner.
When we make the official announcement we will have the requirements about size and content (no animations, must be SWF, etc) as well as a list of rules and prizes for the winners.
Anyone wanting to get a base headstart:
The default header image is 120x40. Every time astrid went outside that is caused messes.
The modified version can be of any dimension or file size, but is recommended to keep it no wider than 300 and shorter than 100. The file size is strongly recommended to be within 100Kb as not all users have 10MB+ connections. No animations, flashing things, and we want it to represent the topic of this sub -- the safe and responsible use of DNMs, not, um, unrelated topics.
I'll have the contest page up soon and will run 2 weeks. But I wanted to give the creative types and those who expressed interest in doing this a heads up it will be soon.
Please do not add submissions to this thread, but do ask questions or make suggestions.
We are going to allow vendors to add to the prize pool. Any vendor interested in doing so, we ask that you remember that you can give away gift codes, but not prizes like drugs or illegal itemsk or offering discounts and not prizes as that is just advertising a limited sale.
More info soon but please ask any quetstions you have in this thread (And I'll break the cardinal rule and ask for upvptes for visibility as I don't want to remove a highly used sticky just for the announcement.
Good luck and get those creative juices flowing!!

Edit: Yes, MLP did post this a few days ago. I did a repost since visitors to the thread can be in cycles, like check every few weeks, so I wanted to make sure more eyes got on it if they miss the sidebar notice.
