Hello guys, I am back! YAY! :p
I was setting up an downloading Monero blockchain until I just found out that they just forked their blockhain from XMR to XMV. Did they already just forked or no? Because everytime I send my transaction, i'll have to use my private key, not my public key. This raises a red flag.
This has nothing to do with private or public keys. This has to do with MoneroV being a scam-fork that should be avoided due to it's de-anonymizing effects that could fuck a lot of people around here.
If a lot of people start participating in the XMV fork on March 14th, then the stealth addresses that were used in your ring signatures for transactions YOU made to the DNM and then to the vendor could be RE-USED. Meaning, blockchain analysis could narrow down your address, and if you didn't use TOR to hide your IP, then they can match that address with the IP and track you the fuck down. The Monero developers have recommended that you churn your addresses a bunch after the fork, as to avoid the "Key image re-use" (the technical term), because even if you don't participate you don't want to lose those stealth addresses because other people make stupid decisions. I would even recommend that the markets and vendors churn their addresses as to make sure they don't get their real address narrowed down.
Be aware of this, it's a very real concern.
And yes, I know that this is a new account, but I've been around for a bit. Just didn't have an account, just a lurker here. Do the research. There's a nice video by /u/SamsungGalaxyPlayer on YouTube explaining in simple terms what key-image re-use is and how it could effect you.
EDIT: changed before/after to just after.
