plausible dependability question

I have a hypothetical situation which I'd like to know how it would work out legally

Say Alice buys drugs off the dnm and has it go to someone (Bob) that is not expecting it's house. The package is left at the door and Bob opens it because that's what an average person does when they get mail - it's very rare in my experience to see someone write return to sender because they don't recognize the package, they open it thinking they got a gift or something. If LE comes after Bob what defense does he have?

Please note in my personal experience this hasn't happened but I'd like to know how this would play out.

In LE's eyes what separates Bob from Eve - someone with flawless practices that orders off the dnm and leaves no trace (Tails, PGP, multiple tumbles etc.)

If Bob's house and computer are clean, he may have the charges dropped. Not my place to say how likely that is, I definitely wouldn't count on it happening. Bob is fucked either way, and Alice is a huge bitch for using her friend as an unsuspecting drug mule

The scenario is a farce. If Bob is an "average person" he's probably going to call the police himself if a package of drugs arrives addressed to him.

This question has been asked time and time again with the wording slightly different each time, and it stands as one of the most important questions of legality in regards to the process of using these markets; unfortunately, any answer you get is 75% speculation and 25% informed reasoning.

My answer: If LE is going to either perform a controlled delivery or just bust your door down, they've likely done their homework ahead of time and have more evidence pinned to you than simply receiving a package.

If you leave behind no other trace aside from the simple action of accepting a package, even an unlikely arrest doesn't stand much of a chance of conviction in a court of law (at least not in the US).

That said, why knowingly sign for a package if that isn't at all the normal process?

So Bob and Eve are both going to be put on the hot seat by LEO. Bob will not cave, as he will deny deny deny, as he knows he has zero involvement. Bob will confess to nothing, get his lawyer, and at most, be charged with minor possession. At best, he gets off scott free. Eve however, may cave. She knows she has done something illegal, and is far more likely to confess when the pressure is on (and the pressure will BE ON for both individuals). If Eve is smart, she too will STFU and call her lawyer. Also, all her stuff will be encrypted. If both individuals maintain a cool head, the negative consequences will be minimal.

It is really surprising how much the interrogative pressure can make things come out. I have seen this in action with other crimes. They (the police) talk fast, get a confession out of you, and boom; you have further incriminated yourself.

Alice should find a better drop, and not at an old persons, like Bob, house. They can be soooooo nosy, as they aint got much else to do...

Delivery company left package at house. Police/SWAT raid house, detain two occupants, shoot homeowners two dogs. Oops, the detainees are the mayor and his mother-in-law. People freed. Dogs still dead. Police/SWAT still protecting and serving. wiki page
