So I just had two police officers inside my apartment...

To start off, this has nothing to do with DNM related activity other than the ounce of shatter that is currently sitting in my cupboard. This sub usually has some pretty sound advice when it comes to law enforcement so I thought I'd ask for some opinions here.

I live in a cozy one bedroom apartment in a quiet as fuck neighborhood and have had no problems at all since I moved in. I'm chilling by myself, high as shit, on reddit when I hear the door of the girl that lives below me slam abnormally loud. Whatever. 30 seconds later there's two loud sets of knocking on my (unlocked) door. Thinking it's a delivery guy with the wrong address or something, I don't bother to get up until I hear the door knob open. My door is at the bottom of an L-shaped staircase, so it can't be seen from the top of the stairs, where there is another door.

I immediately go into panic mode, throw my dab setup into the closet and grabbed the deadliest thing I could find nearby, which happened to be a pair of scissors. I'm listening to quiet, slow moving footsteps coming up the stairs, adrenaline pumping, pointy scissors in hand, ready to fuck up whoever turns the corner when I peek through the door at the top and see a uniformed police officer. I threw the scissors on the couch and opened the door asking what's going on.

Apparently they were investigating complaints that someone was throwing rocks at the houses on our side of the street. The one officer that I could see was asking me how long I had been inside, asking me if it was my car outside, what I had been doing tonight etc. He never came to the top of the stairs, but if he had thank fucking god I put my paraphernalia away.

I look like a straight edge, fine young white man so I had no problems talking to them for a minute before wishing them a good night and that I would keep an eye out for anything suspicious. My concern is, IS IT FUCKING LEGAL FOR OFFICERS TO ENTER MY HOME WITHOUT STATING THEIR PRESENCE WITHOUT A WARRANT!? And for something so insignificant? If I happened to have my shotgun in this apartment, it would have been ready to blast away whoever was slowly creeping up my stairs until I knew for sure who it was.

This honestly scared the living shit out of me, one - because I have personal, yet felony quantities of hash in my possession that I would never expect anyone to know about, and two - because I really don't know what would have happened if I had quickly opened the door with a knife or something. My heart was pounding for a good 10 minutes after they went back out to sit in the cruiser.

tl;dr - Two cops enter my apartment without stating their presence while investigating some bullshit. High as fuck, chat with them, they leave. Came close to assaulting one with scissors.

Your door was unlocked? Im sure they can claim probable cause, they can claim probable cause with just about anything. All they would have to say is that they smelled weed or heard sounds of distress.

I keep doors locked. Mostly because of thugs but those uniformed thugs are the worst.

Dam bro that sucks. Props for speed cleaning the house last minute. I couldv grabbed my bong as a weapon. Not anymore.

When doing things that are illegal, it is best to lock your fucking door.

No. At least not the way you describe it. They can't just open up your door and let themselves in.

This is a one bedroom apartment solely on the second floor with the only entrance on the first floor?

In other words, to get to your apartment, you open a door on the ground level and immediately go up steps?

Did you get their names/badge numbers. Ring the station and make a complaint. If they ask you to come down and make a statement in person just say you aren't feeling well but you'll come down in the morning.

There's a video of an English copper entering a dudes premises with no reason and he's goes off... I'll find it :D

Get a lawyer.

Even if your shit was laying out you'd be good (after some court hearings) bc they can't just walk in like that

[1 Points] atempforanswering:

No, that's not legal, assuming you're in the US. Cops can never enter a home without a warrant or probable cause. But the probable cause standard is higher with respect to your home. Im am fairly confident that whatever they found would have been excluded from evidence had they found your drugs. You do have a claim if you wanted to sue too. Get a lawyer if you want to go there. Not sure you have a lot of damage that would justify a big award, but you do have a claim.
