Package was Out for delivery, then updated to "Delivery status not updated"?

So yesterday my package was marked out for delivery. According to tracking it all went smoothly, it had an arrival to my PO scan, it had a sorting scan, and out for delivery scan. Yet it never showed up. After long talks with everybody at the Post Office, they basicially couldn't locate the package. The mail carrier didn't have it, and they couldnt find it at the post office. Being it was during the busy time of year, I waited until late for some of the bulk to go down before I inquired about my package again. But even contacting them at 7:30pm they still were unable to find my package anywhere.

Then at 12:30am this morning, tracking updated from Out for Delivery to 'Delivery status not updated'. Anybody know what this Delivery status not updated means? I know my pack physically made it to my post office, as it has all the arrival scans and such that only could have happened if it was physically scanned. Just confused on this late night update on Delivery status not updated.

Anyone experience this before? or have any information that can help me determine what might be going on with the pack?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

I've had it happen to me a few times, and each time it had gotten delivered that day, he just hadn't scanned it in. You're fine.

You're 99% ok. Scanning system is fucked right now. I bet you get it today or tomorrow. (USPS is delivering on Sunday's now in some areas for the holiday season)

I had this happen to me a week back or so with a pack I sent to a buddy. Went out for delivery then got the same message you posted. He ended up getting it two days later..I think it was lost in the truck or something.

This happens sometimes when someone drops the ball during the day. According to the USPS regulations, every package is supposed to be scanned every day when it's in a postal facility (at the end of the day mandatory supposedly). In reality this doesn't happen at about 50% of the postal centers from posts I've seen from employees on /r/USPS . You package got scanned during sorting as if it was being placed on the truck. If the truck ran out of room and your package never got delivered, then the tracking system flags the package as "status not updated" as it was expecting a delivery confirmation to follow the last scan on record. If they had also rescanned the item to show it was still in the carrier station, the message wouldn't have appeared.

My situation is very similar, like it made it to the post office, scanned and then made it one stop. However it's been there for about 10 days, and nothing has changed. I'm kinda worried because I feel like it would have been found by now if it's just a matter of being misplaced.
