gc/ms mdma compound identification

I would like opion on whether gc/ms ALONE WOULD BE ENOUGH TO CONFIRM THE IDENTITY OF A COMPOUND SUSPECTED TO BE MDMAOR WOULD FURTHER MORe DETAILED / SPECIFIC TESTS BE REQUIRED to identify beyond reasonable doubt in a pending legal matter

GC/MS alone is enough

Yes.

In fact you can probably infer it just from Mass Spectrometry.

I used to run a mass spec in one job that had such a powerful magnet I had to take my watch off and dump my house keys outside the lab before I fired it up.

Its magnet was cooled with liquid nitrogen. I had to come in on xmas day to top it up, but the liquid nitrogen "milk lorry" hadn't delivered. So I drove to where they stored the N2 flasks and put one in my car to drive back to my lab.

But I hadn't thought it through. It was like a disco fog machine hswitched on in my car. I wound my windows down and had to drive with my head out of the window as liquid nitrogen slushed about in a metal tank on the back seat of my ford escort.

Firstly , thank you , secondly , without derivatization , does anyone think there is or are grounds to challenge the lab reprot once the raw data has been analysed or should this be accepted as prima facie evidence . the reason i ask is that some very bright minds seem to think there is not only grounds to challenge the validity of gc/ms alone , but most definitely if it happens that derivatization has not taken place ( opinion is that without it , the results are not 100% certain due to the complexity in identifying and chemistry closeness of the compounds related to mdma
