Too bad he's an example. Appeal will be denied.

No one should go to jail for drugs, and I hope he successfully appeals for a more reasonable sentence. At the same time, Ross was in over his head. Documentation of his habits (clearnet) indicates some combination of laziness, ignorance, or lack of respect for his adversary. While 99% of the time LE teams are about as effective as a crime fighting potato, there's always that one agent with more than a single brain cell who stops drooling for just long enough to ask good questions. Hopefully Ross will be remembered for demonstrating what happens when you decide to grow your risk but not your opsec, instead of some darknet hero who got forced into making bad decisions cuz The Man is so corrupt.

FWIW you can find the full appeal archive with the appeal brief and the 6 appendix here:
http://antilop.cc/sr/download/ulbricht_appeal.tar.gz
If you prefer the documents are also available individually:
http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_on_appeal.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_01.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_02.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_03.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_04.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_05.pdf http://antilop.cc/sr/files/2016_01_12_ULBRICHT_brief_Appendix_06.pdf
The Appendix contains most of the documents used pre-trial and during the trial, including exhibits, indictments and whatnot. This is where you'll find all the A references (AXXX) mentioned in the brief. Majority of the documents aren't new but there are, I think, few documents that were sealed so far.
Peace

Ross had $13m in bitcoins?!?! How did he not ball the fuck out and buy condos in every state?! Like after $1m I would have left the county and bought a home in insert some foreign country.
He must have had a lot of discipline. But that many bitcoins is hard to turn to cash.

Well that was interesting. Fair arguments but people will not decide it will be a Star Chamber. Probably best outcome is a reduced sentence.
You guys and the hits. The correct narrative is Ross got talked into hiring a hitman by VJ/PoM and The Feds. If you are paying attention. Sure he agreed but was completely over his head by then. Fuck he was paying thousands of dollars for blackmail regularly. VJ and "this is a drug business".
PoM should be here any day according to the Thai. That is going to be real interesting.

The operating word in the phrase war on drugs is "war". This is not a fight. This is a one sided "genocide" (to propulgate the terms of the metaphor) waged against people who's only way to fight back is to go further underground. Hell of a lot of good that did with the Holocaust. The Revolutionary War wasn't won because The Founding Fathers believed they had rights but weren't willing to fight for them. Ross Ulbricht was essentially Anne Frank in that regard, not a leader but a figurehead, a role model. We can't complain about rights being infringed upon that we are too ashamed of for social pressures not to express. In this sense too we are even more fucked on the account that the belief we have in our rights is seen by the rest of the world not like life, liberty, or property, but the right to propagate a vice. Vice is a very loosely defined term country to country, culture to culture, but if we want anything to change we either have to increase opsec even further, make a new country, subvert the opinions of the public, or the only really viable option, flex what muscles we do have. No one is going to herald a cop killer, which is our main competition, but what if we fought the war a different way. What percentage of all the money in the world realistically goes through these markets. The IRS was rightfully worried about Ross if they were involved in the investigation, the amount of money flowing through the dark markets is money that, from all our efforts, essentially doesn't exist anymore if it is not reintroduced into the market. If the Fed Mints more money to replace what is lost and we later introduce those large sums, then inflation happens and the country's economy is fucked. If we want our rights we have to fight for them, and if that means holding the economy hostage through billions buried in some forest somewhere in exchange for our rights we either have to do it, achieve our goal by some other means, or quit complaining about the majority attempting to supress us.

Why do you guys want to appeal him? Didn't he pay someone he thought was a hitman(actually LE) to go beat up one of his Site Admins?
You guys talk shit about Ross and then you complain about AB. DPR had a set of morals, he was politically driven to offer the service which he offered. Websites like AB are nothing but opportunists and could care less about the war on drugs. That's the reason why we constantly see people getting taken advantage of, why there's such a tiny amount of customer support. It's also the exact reason why someday soon AB will either exit scam or be taken down by LE. DPR was smart enough to at least try to keep his market free of counterfeited currency, carded items, and anything that was intended to harm or steal from another person. All social minorities and fringe groups have had their movement and their leaders and folk heroes. Ethnic minorities, gender classes, social classes, etc. All but those who are considered fucking enemy combatants by their own country in the war on drugs. People like us are considered to be 1/5th human being, almost like black people were considered to literally be 1/5th human being during slavery. Of course there's a huge difference between slavery and the war on drugs. But the point is that we're still treated as if our lives aren't equal in worth and our rights aren't equal in importance.
Ross was the closest thing to a leader this particular fringe group has had. He made a conscious decision to be part of this war, knowing he was doing so at great risk to himself, potentially even mortal risk. And from the looks of it, he'll have to pay the greatest price. It's more than any of us will ever fucking contribute to this war. He deserves to be idolized and raised up.
