OPSEC fuck up: screwed for life? [x-post]

Posted this in /r/darknetmarketnoobs, but I thought you guys might have some input as well.

I know I'm a complete moron. I ignored the first rule of fight club.

Basically, I wanted to help a friend of mine score some weed. We discussed DNM in detail over Facebook. I know, I know, I'm a dumbass. I always figured that LE doesn't really give a fuck or look that closely at social media, and if they were going to, they would just scroll through your phone if you got arrested. Then I read a few articles about how easy it is for LE to subpeona Facebook accounts, and how Facebook stores ALL user data. Am I just fucked for life? I've read some conflicting information. Some people say the information is purged off of Facebook's servers 90 days after I completely delete my account, some day deleting the message tree from both accounts will work just as well. Can I just never order ever again?

EDIT: Calmed down a bit, not as worried anymore. The plan is to delete the messages and tell my friend I got ripped off. Thanks for your advice guys.

Which means that you are a minnow in the vast sea of cyberspace criminals. To get busted for "helping a friend score some weed" you would basically have to send the advice from a police department computer. And type it while you were dunking your balls in Officer Friendly's morning coffee as "Fuck Tha Police" played in the background on your boombox.

tl/dr; relax.

Jesus Christ man, seriously? You can be sure that they'll keep data indefinitely, regardless if you delete your account or not. I'm not saying the LE is going to kick down your door any minute now, but that was pretty damn stupid.

Nobody would care about yet another person buying small amounts of weed, not even cops. For some reason people always think that mentioning buying 1g of marijuana on any site will cause a large scale police investigation costing several $100k an ending up in week of questioning at Guantanamo Bay before going to a judge who will sentence you to either 20 years in prison or maybe a $50 fine.

In general, don't worry about it unless you are a seller. People are writing page after page about "never use low opsec", and people are buying extra computers with prepaid sims for wireless, just for wanting to buy small amounts of weed or other meds online instead of going around the street corner, and its really crazy how paranoid people can get because of these "advice" people are giving are getting here. There is a big difference between a Ross Ulbricht situation, and a small online purchase.

You, as well as the other million people who purchased online, will probably be fine.

I doubt LE will go after you for this, but that doesn't mean that it can't bite you in the ass in some way. If you go to apply for a job and they use one of those background checking companies to get your life story, they'll likely find that (even if you delete everything) and give it to your future prospective employer for them to judge.

I know tons of people who've been fucked over by little stuff like this when they had to do background checks through those companies. However, other than that, you should be alright.
