Why you should keep your mailman happy

I maintain a good relationship with the three mail carriers that deliver my mail and I advise everyone here to do the same. I was expecting an express delivery today and when the mailman came up he didn't have it. I asked him and he said they had a new driver that took it and probably forgot to deliver it.

Now I don't exactly live in the middle of town - in fact, I live almost 20 miles away from the nearest post office. My mailman, the awesome guy that he is, tracked down the errant driver, grabbed my pack, and delivered it to me within 30 minutes of our conversation. I repaid him with two six packs of his favorite beer - so easy, yet so many people fail to acknowledge their mail carriers. A couple six packs and my withdrawals are gone - so easy to make friends, and your mailman is good person to have on your side.

Just wanted to share my story. It was a gram of Supreme Smoke's finest #4, btw - that guy is super professional. Yes, like most h vendors he requires FE but you know what? In my over 30 transactions with the guy, he's never once failed to have my pack delivered the next day. Order the night before, give one day for shipping, and there your pack will be.

It's good to see you have built up a relationship like this with your mail man. It has it's benefits like you mentioned but you have to go about it in the right way. Like you have done, you gradually built up a good friendship with your mail man but my advice would be to not be over friendly if you are first starting to talk to your mail man. Gradual conversations work wonders. That should be one of the things taken from this IMHO.

Nice try Supreme Smoke.

Also entirely dependent on location. Coming from a very rural town there are two postal carriers one of whom I know very well and have worked with in the past.

Why do people do shit like this? A postman posts mail that's it. He doesn't give a fuck who you are or what's in your mail. He cares about posting the mail as fast as possible so he can fuck off home.... HERP DERP why does this guy want his mail so bad, HERP DERP why the fuck has he just given me bear. Fucking hell you wouldn't do that for any other parcel....

EDIT: Just read the last bit, surprise surprise you were tweaking...

Pro tip : You can leave chocolates in the outgoing mail box. Don't do this when it's really hot out. I did this and am no longer allowed to leave chocolates in the box anymore.

Is this even possible if you never see your mailman? I'm never home when anything gets delivered except for maybe a UPS package once or twice a month

My mother and grandmother (on dad's side) both stressed to me as a child the importance of treating the mailman right. Every Christmas they got a card with $20 in it ($10 with my grandma) and they would leave cookies occasionally, candy for Halloween and Easter, a card if they knew the person's birthday. To them the mailman was a part of the community; they came to your house almost every day for years, and more importantly they were people too. So they deserved to be treated well, like a neighbor. I've grown up to be more of a hermit; I don't introduce myself to the neighbors or mailman, but I still left a Christmas letter in there (no cash though ;-)

It was always explained like it was common sense: this mailman works to provide you a service, you offer your thanks for that. It's just the polite thing to do.

Mail people are generally pretty nice folks.. Well, unless you constantly have like a car parked out in front of your box, in which case they tend to leave el shito notes on the car. In life in general, it's always good practice to just be friendly to everyone. Karma goes a long way. But, some people are just inherently negative and therefore wonder why their lives are. Moral: be kind to your post dude and kindness will follow you.
