1. Been smoking marijuana regularly for the last 8 years
2. About 1 year ago I switched to using a vaporizer
3. About 2 months ago I went back to smoking
4. After I started smoking again I developed a constant cough and would wheeze when I woke up in the mornings
5. Last week I smoked a joint and almost immediately afterwards I began to feel like I couldn't breathe. Pain in my chest, felt like I was being choked, I was wheezing constantly, thought I was going to die. Tried to stay awake all night because I was worried I might die in my sleep, but passed out (lol).
6. When I woke up the morning after that, I felt fine, but cautious so I used the vaporizer
7. Immediately after vaporizing I started having the same feeling except even worse than before
8. Went to hospital. Diagnosed acute bronchitis, given breathing treatment, steroids and antibiotics.
9. Been feeling pretty good since using the various medications, but have not smoked or vaporized at all.
10. Wondering if vaporizing is safe?
-
It's not the carbon monoxide you gotta worry about, it's just the irritation. Even vapor causes that. Give it a week or two.

I was in pretty much the same exact position as you a few months back, I just took a ton of my cough medicine to pass out and baked a few firecrackers and a batch of brownies to get me through it until I was healthy enough to smoke again. I started vaporizing a few days after beginning the antibiotics and it felt fine although harsh still, but I had to shotgun hits from the bong with my girlfriend at the time because it was still to harsh to hit myself. The best thing that helped me though were the firecrackers. They're super easy to make and I only used .5g on each one so they're cheaper than brownies unless you have enough trimmings to bake with like I did. I prefer graham crackers with nutella as opposed to saltine crackers with peanut butter but that's up to you. ;)

Dude! I love it when I get bronchitis from smoking weed.It may sound somewhat stupid but my doctor lovesss to write out prescriptions for codeine cough syrup.Ever time I get bronchitis from smoking to much weed (and cigarettes) I go to the doctor and get a script for sizzurp.I always get a bottle with 2 additional refills too! Ive been doing this since I was about 14 and the doctor still hasnt caught on yet ;D

So, you think if I take the meds and take it easy and wait for it to clear up, I can vape or even smoke again? Awesome. I was worried I might have to switch to edibles only. I don't have a regular doctor, so I have no one to ask about this.

I always use graham crackers, I'll try nutella. The woman will love that. So you're saying after it cleared up you went back to smoking/etc like usual? That's great news.

You should pick up one of those bongs you can smoke concentrate off of and then order THC oil. That may be a little less harsh on yourself.

You think that's less harsh than a normal vaporizer? those things look like a huge pain in the ass haha
Final thought: this was a total surprise to me since I've been smoking heavily for so long, my first thought was that the weed I got had been sprayed with something nasty for extra weight. Likely? Not likely?

Never heard of people spraying shit on weed.
My experience with smoking concentrates is that the smoke is a lot smoother. When you burn the weed you're getting that harsh smoke. Vaporizing is usually better for me. I just was trying to help you out.

The idea that you got weed laced with something was at the top of my head when I started reading this thread.
Weed was commonly laced with PCP in certain circle back in the day. and there have been plenty of reports of people getting grass that was cut with it or other chemicals (both active and inactive)
FastForward to 2012 and MXE has become extremely popular and I personally find it to be very similar to PCP when smoked. But it does make it very hard to breathe afterwards. And I could totally see the same douchebags that use to lace cheap weed with PCP doing the same thing with MXE.
I am not saying that this is what happened. But it is a definite possibility.
But than, It could be anything. For all we know, your dealer could have been putting drops of diesel in his bags to try and make "sour diesel weed". (It would be funnier if i hadn't actually seen some kid try this)

Maybe try switching to hash for a while? I find the smoke a lot easier on my lungs

You can buy it from Amazon, no need to wait until you see your doctor.

Graham Crackers + Nutella for firecrackers. This was discovered by me a few years ago, and I've been converting people to it since! I love that recipe!
As for vaping, I pretty much only use a vaporizer and find it far better than smoking. It's definately healthier as it produces far less CO. I took some CO tests since quiting tobacco smoking which got me at 11ppm of CO down to 7ppm a year after quitting. A year after switching to a vaporizer I was down to 4ppm. The irritation from vaping can be worse than smoking IME, and also easily avoided:
Many people when vaping, take the hit from the tube and inhale until their lungs are full. This leaves excess vapor in your throat. Right before you feel your lungs full, take the tube out of your mouth and inhale some clean are to clear your throat into your lungs. Also exhale quickly after you hold it in to reduce irritation time.

If you have an albuterol inhaler take it BEFORE doing anything that stresses your lungs (smoking). I usually get a little wheezy when hitting blunts or pieces, but having a tall cold drink and chilling out helps a ton. You might have to see a Pulmonologist if the problem persists for an extended period of time. Try to take slow smooth hits from the vape, then blow out smoothly. If you dont take huge hits and you have a drink nearby you should be OK. I would avoid pieces/bongs/blunts for now though. Also there's some great edibles on here that you should consider looking into. 8)
