Ive been trying to read a little more on the security forum lately. I've finally got myself a flash drive with a substantial capacity. I'm wondering how secure you guys feel using truecrypt ALONE to encrypt my SR stuff on the flash drive. I tried using liberte but was having some problems. I'm still going to de a bit more research and maybe try some other methods/approaches, but for the time being, how safe am I at the moment with just truecrypt?

I use a tiny 4gb SD microcard stick to encrypt my SR acct data and bitcoin shit. I feel damn good using it in my opinion as its better than using nothing, easy to dispose of, and sure as hell better than keeping sensitive data on your HD.

I agree, I never had anything on my HD, but up until now, I had my stuff spread between 2 flash drives and didn't think it would be practical to encrypt until I got everything on to one and I definitely feel a bit safer. So in other words, I know it's SOMETHING, but I'm curious as to HOW MUCH of a something is it?

Another note is your password, with the risk of bruteforce programs, make that password good by being long and unique. As far as how much of "something" truecrypts capabilities are this should give you a little insight. :)
Operation Satyagraha
In July 2008, several TrueCrypt-secured hard drives were seized from a Brazilian banker Daniel Dantas, who was suspected of financial crimes. The Brazilian National Institute of Criminology (INC) tried unsuccessfully for five months to obtain access to his files on the TrueCrypt-protected disks. They enlisted the help of the FBI, who used dictionary attacks against Dantas' disks for over 12 months, but were still unable to decrypt them.[55] The case presented a noteworthy real-world test which proved the strength of TrueCrypt.

Well that's good news if it's true. Do you know the source of what you quoted? I just like to know where the information I get comes from. Although I trust you, I might not trust your source...

Nevermind, found it on the clearnet....

I'll definitely sleep a bit better today.

Ah yes, the source of course!
I grabbed that statement directly from these two wikipedia articles, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Dantas & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrueCrypt

Be safe! :D
