Title: Tails persistent volume??
Post by: TA on August 10, 2013, 05:57 pm
Noob question here. Can a persistent volume be created on a tails dvd? Or is it limited to a flash drive? Also is it safe to store my pgp keys on that dvd (if possible)?? Thanks ahead of time!

I don't believe it can be. Just go the USB route.

Best just to use a flash drive, create persistant volume, and keep your pgp keys hidden in there. And in another copy for backup.

You could store your pgp keys anywhere but probably in your best interest to hide them well, although you probably won't find a more secure location than inside Tails persistant volume.

I'm anything but an authority on the topic, maybe somebody smarter can answer your question better.

Unless something has changed since 0.19, the persistent volume scripts are intentionally written to only allow you to create volumes on USB sticks.  Not VM shared drives, not DVDs, etc.
