Title: Interest check: Copperhead and Rattler snake skins
Post by: ralph123 on October 12, 2012, 12:53 am
Would there be any interest in these kind of items?

In an attempt to kill 2 birds with one stone the government has decided to cure the problem of over populated zoos and too many hill billies by dropping hundreds of snakes from helicopters across the Appalachian mountains lol.

So me and a few rednecks put together a home made snake catching kit which includes a pair of snake bite proof boots that go up to the knees. A 10 foot peice of PVC pipe with a hole drilled at the end. A wire tied to that hole and then the othe end of the wire is fed thru the tube so that the user can operate the wire with one hand while holding the tube with the other so that he can feed the wire back and forth creating a loop at the far end. The loop fits good around the snakes head and then is pulled tight to catch the serpent. At this time the serpent has a bag or pillow case thrown over its head and then the rest of the snake is fed into the pillow case. This bag or pillow case is a work in progress because we would much rather have something better that is made from a better material. Once the snake is in the bag where it can't see what's going on it will become dormant in most cases.

Of course there is a snake bite kit that goes with us on every hunt and it consist of a couple of new razor blades and a suction cup and a rubber hose to use as a tie off because as soon as you are bit you want to tightly tie it off to help slow down the flow of blood/poison.

There are places with in an hour to 2 hours drive time that buy these snakes alive or dead. Of course we would have to kill the snake and harvest it's skin in order to mail it out. We just use a simple piece of wood board to do this. Depending on the size of your snake you would go cut or find a peice of wood. Preferably a 2 by 6. We chop off the head and try to preserve it the best we can because of hats and belts. We save all the rattlers and hope to find the oldest rattler snakes because the older the snake the bigger the rattle will be. We take the skin off the snake and properly clean the meat because snake meat it pretty good eaten. We flatten and stretch the skin out onto the board and tac it down at each corner and everywhere that the skin is trying to raise or curl up. We set it outside so it will dry properly.

Snake venom can be useful for making anti-venom and that shit is expensive so the heads are usually milked but you can take one and scratch yourself with the fangs just a little bit everyday and have your body immune to snake bites after a period of time. As a matter of fact it'll cause you to trip balls but plaese don't try this at home. Do your own research if you must get knowledgeable about it.

Anyway is there any interest here for the snake hunting kits or for the skins?

Hmm I'd be interested in a vial of venom if you can get it.
