Title: Sub-forums for different countries/regions?
Post by: enddox on March 06, 2012, 01:44 pm
Don't know how much extra work your servers can handle but has anyone ever given any idea to having some sub-forums for different countries or regions.

Things like this (no particular order):

1. USA/CA
2. UK
3. AU/NZ
4. EU

etc., etc., etc.

maybe a flag icon for next to topic titles, but whole different sections would lead to segregating the community. when that happens im sure scammers would find a way in

I didn't really envisage segregating the community, in fact my idea was to bring the relevant communities together. It has nothing to do with the main SR site but just the forums and was ideally to help with the specific issues that are relevant to the different geographical communities (buying bitcoins, receiving packages, what to do with customs warnings, etc.).

For example, me being from Australia, there are many threads that relate to purchasing from our country that are not necessarily relevant to other countries (particularly customs and such). I have noticed many, many threads asking specific questions to the whole userbase which in fact can only be answered by those in the same country (or region).

I really thought that something like this would bring communities together rather than segregating them but, of course, this is just my idea so I don't expect it to carry any specific weight. Just an idea.

I see where you're coming from, especially with the Australia example.  But I also agree that this could segregate the community; too many disparate forums and we'll end up with a bunch of posts with no discussions in the less-visited sections.  Perhaps some sort of "Region Discussion" sub-forum under the Shipping section would cover this well.
Honestly though, this seems like something that could be solved with a couple sticky threads: "Discussion on shipping to AU," "Best UK vendors," "US to EU shipping: safe?" etc.
