Title: Bitcoins?!
Post by: Oxy on January 30, 2012, 06:26 am
Okay! Basically I need help with "BitCoins". How many Bitcoins = $1 USD? Also, how do I obtain them? I'm super happy to find acid here! Can I buy someone's bitcoins via PayPal? Lol, sorry if I seem like a noob, or if there's already a thread that covers this. :)

Top right corner, there's a search bar, just type in Bitcoin and read the title of threads and just pick one.

Or see here:

Also here:

This kind of stuff really needs to all be on the wiki.

As far as obtaining bitcoins, look into getbitcoin or bitinstant or dwolla --> mtgox.

For a noob, get-bitcoin (dot com) is perhaps the easiest. Plus one can have bitcoins deposited directly in their SR account.

Bitcoins are a fluid forex like market so there is no 1BTC = $X.XX.

You will need to do some reading and basic understand please, esp if your purchasing off here.  Buyer noobness makes vendor's lives incredibly more difficult, and it's the buyers responsibility to figure these fairly simple things out themselves first.

Silkroad uses the daily weighted average, 5.48$=1BTC right now

Oh, and you can see the value of bitcoin at:

http://bitcoinprices.org/
http://www.bitcoinwatch.com/
https://mtgox.com/code/data/ticker.php

The price Silk Road uses is the "avg" in that last URL, which is the 24-hour weighted average price.

For example, if 1 bitcoin is worth $5.53, then about 0.1808 bitcoin would be worth $1 (1/5.53).

OMG! So desperate to try some LSD, but this bitcoin stuff is so annoying, they require a creditcard number to buy bitcoins... Why don't sites understand that the majority of people are using PayPal for online transactions...

paypal stopped bitcoin websites dealing through paypal. due to something about it being an e-currency, this didnt agree with there acceptable use policy. something along those lines.

PROTIP: Keep a 3-5 BTC slush fund floating in your SR account just in case.

Saved me countless times from having to go through the hassle of going through the *ordeal* of getting that extra few BTC to make a purchase/pay for shipping.
