I've been following this http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/604845-9-Easy-Steps-An-OSX-Tutorial-for-Setting-up-Tormail-with-Thunderbird-Enigmail
and have gotten down right to the end and when creating a new account/server in thunderbird, it can't find it and I've tried entering it manually. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and is there a better way to get gpg encryption on a new mac? I looked at the instructions on gpgtools and right away I saw that the email associated with the mail app must be the one to use pgp with. Is there a way around that? I don't think I want to use my normal email address to do all this

I don't even use thunderbird, and I found the whole thing confusing until I realized you can just open and use the Text Edit program. You don't need a real account at all with thunderbird or anything else, you just need a "new message" pane or blank document with textedit. Then drop down that top left menu, select "services," and then you can import/encrypt/etc.
