Hello, world. I'm very new to the SR so I thought I'd drop in and let my presence be known. I hope to find some reputable vendors eventually but, in the meantime, I'll be hanging back on the forum. I don't want to spam my way to 50 so feel free to start a discussion, ask a question or just spam in here.
-
Hi proxanne!
It's a good thing you decided not to spam, I think the spamming on the newbie boards is pretty annoying. So, to start a discussion I'll ask.. Do you feel like you're ready to place an order? Have you learned PGP and gotten bitcoins?
-
Sorry for the late reply, I've been preoccupied lately. To answer your question though, no. I've been reading about the whole process but haven't practiced the methods yet. For example, I have several PGP tutorials saved that I haven't read yet. There is a mountain of information, I just haven't digested it yet!
Also, I agree with the spam thing. I'm new so I would rather take those 50 posts and make them count towards something; introducing myself; asking questions; discussions, etc. If I were to rush into buying something this soon I'm sure I would screw something up.
-
hello
welcome aboard

Thank you. Glad to be here 8)

Hi proxanne - I'm trying to post some real posts along with some spamz-a-lot to get to 50. I'm kind of the other way around; been shopping for quite a while now but didn't really look to the community much until we had all the technical errors, then took a look around and it looks pretty useful.
I'm a techie, so the TOR/PGP etc. was easy, but I was very anxious about first purchase (is this too good to be true?!?), and I probably waited about 6 months after setting up the software and buying the coins to take the plunge. I've made several purchases now and all has been very professional.
-
Anyone know where a reputable vendor for some bubble hash, EU delivery?
Also i learnt a new trick for smoking weed, if you spray a few drops of peppermint oil in the air before you smoke somehow you get even more stoned than usual. its awesome
-
I hope things go as smoothly for me as they do for you, Martha. I'm very skeptical to be honest... but only one way to find out, eh?
-
Welcome! There were many steps in getting myself onto SR and ready to purchase! Figuring out BC and making a decision on which route to buy/store/etc. Figuring out PGP was tough!! Im not a techie but fairly savy on the net....I think! lol :) But once I got it all figured out its a breeze! And its AMAZING!! :) I found a youtube video helpful but I dont think the guy should have that video available to the masses! When getting PGP program be sure to click box for GPA thats the program you will actually use. There are a bunch of other programs you dont need. Again....Im not super savy w/ this but thats been m experience.
GL and Cheers! :)

yah skepticism is a pretty logically reaction. i had a lot of it too when i first signed on to SR. is this shit for real? lol
but this whole operation is a pretty cool experiment being the closest thing i will probably see to legalized drugs. it actually runs exactly like any other market selling legit things. vendors are held to a certain level of responsibility in providing a product which matches there description because everything relies on feedback. as long as you do your proper research before purchasing you will have a smooth transaction. everyday there are a ton of happy buyers getting goodies and a ton of vendors making money. its a great system.
-
PGP is so important when sending your personal info to a vendor for a shipment. Because you are encrypting it just for the vendor no one else can read it. Make sure you do that when you place an order. PGP is your best friend. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck.

PGP is really easy to use.. I don't recommend GPG4WIN (gpa), you should go with gpg4usb, it's a lot easier to use and it's just all around better. It's pretty hard at the beginning when you read through those forums, there's a lot of information here, but it's important you take time to read on how to be anonymous, not get busted, etc.
I hope you'll get everything set up soon!

Hi Tree!
Is there a reason why GPG4WIN is not recommended? I chose it and didn't look into GPG4USB.. they do the same thing, right?
I found GPG4WIN easy to use. My order hasn't arrived yet so hopefully it worked and is good encryption so only the vendor can see the details! I will definitely be looking into GPG4USB for future reference.
-
GPG4WIN isn't less secure but it's more annoying to use and requires an installation. gpg4usb is just incredibly more easy to use and you can also make stronger keys. GPA only allows you to make 2048bit key while gpg4usb's maximum is 4096bit.
They both do the same thing and GPA is also easy to use but the interface is kind of crappy IMO and it just generally kind of sucks. I prefer programs that don't require an installation as they don't leave as many traces on your computer. If your order doesn't arrive it's not GPA's fault, it's because the vendor scammed you ;)
-
Hey guys, this is kinda off topic, but since you're talking about being scammed I have my share of thoughts to deliver ;D
I don't know if I'm missing something here but I think people finding packages being lost in the mail system something normal and acceptable completely bullshit.
Let me make my point. How many times have you had something lost in the mail? I'll take myself as an example. I use the mail for i don't know, 20 years? I have NEVER had anything going missing. When traveling and sending postcards they always get there. When sending letters to my granny as a child she would always receive them. I have friends in other countries who occasionally send me a letter just for the fun of it and they always get to me. What about penpal, that was very popular 10 years ago, people would always trust the mail system. I mean... it's the fucking mail! Why would anyone think something they posted wouldn't arrive? I think that doesn't even pop to your head when posting legal stuff.
Then suddenly after I sign up to SR mail start to miss their destination?? that's complete bullshit. Unless your orders are being intercepted by feds or whatever which is REALLY hard to happen (i buy all sort of stuff without paying taxes on ebay all the time), and even if it happens you would probably receive a seizure letter or something (that happened to me with a Kindle I bought once off ebay). So the point is: there is an ongoing "culture" here that it is normal for mail to disappear. Come on, I think 90% of packages not arriving are vendors selectively scamming their clients. I do believe sometimes your order may be detected as something illegal and be stopped by the government but the number of cases like that popping up here is simply too high to be true.
See, i'm not complaining about how SR works. Actually I have never had a package missing from SR, and I accept the fact that, as I read someone here on the forums saying, "when i buy off SR I pretend I'm gambling. Sometimes i get the prize, sometimes I don't" (sorry I don't remember who said it to quote). But I guess people should be educated and informed about this, and not led to believe the mail system is so inefficient because it is not most of the time! :o
Sorry about the long post, but I've been thinking about it and had to take it off my chest. ;D
Thanks for any illumination on the subject.

You're welcome, edd88. I saw lots of people leaving 5/5 to vendors because their package didn't arrive but the vendor was "communicative" or "offered a 20% refund". While i understand the vendor has to protect himself from scammer buyers, i wouldn't leave a 5/5 if a package didn't arrive (unless for not wanting a refund rate, idk) because I *myself* know as a fact I'm not scamming and while many vendors are nice and talkative, we don't have anyway to really know what's happening behind the curtains. Weird... Sorry If i'm saying something that makes no sense. I'm also new here and I'm smoking some weed while typing ;D

i agree. i have had legit mail go missing but its rare and i think for the most part the mail system is running at a high success rate. i try and order with tracking to avoid this problem. there will never be a question to whether or not it was sent. and if you order domestic the tracking option usually isn't very much. if i'm buying a couple hundred dollars worth of product i think its well worth the $20 dollar tracking number for piece of mind. unfortunately we'll probably never be able to actually find the truth and its a risk you take when ordering snail mail. i would like to believe there are some honorable vendors out there, you just have to do your homework. also, if your judging it off of the feedback remarks on SR, most times they dont mention if its an international shipment. i'm sure those go missing more often.
-
i would still leave a 5/5 rating even if my package didn't show. if you order regular mail and it says in the vendors profile that undelivered packages get a 25% refund and yours doesn't come and you get your refund, you kind of have to give 5/5. you agreed to the terms and they lived up to there end. kind of sucks but there not forcing you to buy from them lol

Thanks for the input, RobLoblaw. I guess having a tracking option diminishes the risk, but even so I read posts from people being scammed with their tracked packages being post and arriving at their destination, but weirdly never showing up. Or worse, they appear as delivered to the same country they were posted when buying from another country. :o
Well, I guess we just have to take the chances. And I agree with you, I do believe there are honorable vendors out there and I do research a lot before buying anything. :)

idk... i mean... 5/5 means 100% satisfied. How could you possibly be satisfied with something you did not receive. I mean.. you don't have to be an ass and give 1/5 but I think 4/5 accounts for the vendor being nice and all... but that's me ;D

yah that stuff is weird :o i hope those are rare occasions? i would think something like that doesn't have anything to do with the vendor because how would they be able to manipulate the postal computers to show deliveries.

Beats me... I guess the vendor could have never really used the buyer's address and used one of their own instead?? Depending on the destination country in international orders the tracking info is really vague, like "left at X time" "arrived at Y time".
Anyway thanks for your positive view on this... ;) makes me less paranoid LOL
Guess we just have to choose well our vendors and deal with the losses when/if they happen. It's still better than being scammed on the streets (which here happens all the time -- except for weed maybe...)

atleast you won't get stabbed here lol i have never taken at loss yet knock on wood. i still have to do my homework, research vendors and don't FE and i'm sure there is still a chance i could get ripped off but i think everyday there is countless purchases happening and packages arriving that work out perfect.

I agree completely, if your shit doesn't arrive then you should leave bad feedback and never use that dealer again, if we don't do this then we're fucking it up for everyone else by not weeding out the bad guys. A re-ship might be acceptable but even then I'd leave full disclosure in the feedback form even if I'm leaving a 5/5.
Parcels don't usually get lost in the post, most of the time someone steals them. You may not be able to tell if it's your flatmate, postal workers, the dealer's runner, the dealer themselves or the long arm of the law, but you can make an educated guess based on previous performance.

Thanks, that's what I think. I find it really strange people saying "Never arrived, but very communicative seller 5/5". Good communication is great (and perhaps should be minimum standard in any business) but come on, we're not placing orders on SR to talk to people.

I agree with that, but if the package is super blaster fucking stealth as most vendors announce it why would anyone who doesn't know what's inside want to steal it (specially with business-like flat envelopes)? I guess that's like you said, we have to risk the first time we buy from a new vendor and do it again or not based on previous performance... If you buy 10 times and he delivers 9 out of 10, you could say something not related to the vendor happened, i guess... :P

Let me make my point. How many times have you had something lost in the mail? I'll take myself as an example. I use the mail for i don't know, 20 years? I have NEVER had anything going missing.
So far, I have had no problems with any SR vendors at all yet (bought from 4 different), and all has arrived pretty much exactly as expected except one. I have used priority mail with all, which maybe helps. I never FE, and initially I only chose those with dozens of 5/5 ratings and more than one of those within the past 24 hours. I recently used a newbie vendor who's disappeared, but I got my package and it was great! Ordered from them again and it was not processed, so I cancelled on SR, and all was fine, my coins came back immediately. Thinking about it, I've had more problems with folks face to face that I've had on SR in almost a year.
The mail is getting kind of screwy, though. We've been stood up by the mailman at my office for days recently, and it's just a gamble whose mail goes in who's mail box in our shopping center's large box. My mortgage bill never showed up at home last month. I called the bank to see if perhaps my fairy godmother had paid it off for me, but alas, no, the post office returned it to them as undeliverable. The lady on the phone at the bank asked if it was still my address, and I assured her I had not moved my/their house anywhere last month. Weird!
-
For the PGP, I've been using Portable PGP, available here: http://ppgp.sourceforge.net/
It is easy to use, and the only criticism I've seen the seems really valid is that it's not good with large files, which isn't a problem here. One of my Windows security tools doesn't like it, but the two anti-virus programs I alternate between both seem to think it's fine, so I've stuck with it. It used to have GREAT simple and clear instructions on how to install and use it, but I could not find those at all this evening. I'm sure the person who wrote and posted them has been chastised mightily by the computer overlords for not talking around and around in technical circles... ;)

You should lodge an official complaint about that, an unreliable postal service is unacceptable in today's eCommerce age.

I find GPA (from GPG4win) simple enough to use. I can add a key, encrypt a msg and get it passed to vendor in under a min. I think it works fine but also don't have a comparison. It did take a lot of reading and figuring out. PGP in general, not specifically GPA. Once you do it though your good to go and it really is easy. Just a few steps to encrypt. :)
-
I appreciate the discussion, everybody. Thanks for keeping it mostly spam-free.
I'm going to download PGPUsb... I'll be back if I have questions. From now on I would like this thread to be geared towards discussion of PGP and encryption methods in general.
-
Okay, I've created both private and public keys. I used the tutorial here: http://32yehzkk7jflf6r2.onion/gpg4usb/
PGP encryption is pretty straight forward.
For all practical reasons, what is PGP for? Do I use it to encrypt all communication with vendors? Or will I just use to it encrypt sensitive information, such as my mailing address?
I'll look around for other threads with more general information, but I'll stay in this thread for direct advice.
-
yah generally you use it for sensitive information. for simple messages and quick questions i wouldnt bother and some vendors dont have the time to decrypt regular messages. they get a lot of mail. if you think its going to get you in trouble if a vendor or sr becomes compromised they encrypt it otherwise i wouldnt worry about. i only encrpyt my address
-
So, if someone wants to send an encrypted message to another, the sender needs to know the recipients public key? Or do they both need to know each other's public keys?

I would recommend reading every single line of a vendors page to get an idea of what they're like. Some vendors ask that you use PGP whenever possible, and others say they only have time to decrypt your address. One thing for sure, if you don't encrypt sensitive info (mainly your address) you're asking to get bent over! Reading the vendor pages is invaluable in more ways than just finding out their encryption preferences too. You can really start to get a good picture of the vendor just by reading all of their page, including ALL of their feedback.
Cheers,
ChinoCat ;)

Sender must have receiver's public key. Would you like to try with me?

I shall. Check your PMs.

No need to PM. Here is my public key. Encrypt a message with it and post here. I will then decrypt, and respond. It's easy. This is how I learned.

Wait, under the key manager there are two listed. When I copy the keys to a clip board they both have the PGP Public key header but one is longer than the other.
One is the key I created with the name and email I chose. The other seems default, called gpg4usb-project, gpg4usb@cpunk.de
Which key do I use?

One thing for sure, if you don't encrypt sensitive info (mainly your address) you're asking to get bent over! Reading the vendor pages is invaluable in more ways than just finding out their encryption preferences too. You can really start to get a good picture of the vendor just by reading all of their page, including ALL of their feedback.
Cheers,
ChinoCat ;)
for sure. very good info

Not sure. Here is an encrypted message I encrypted with the second key gpg4sub@cpunk.de. I trust that this is a completely false email, not attached to you in real life right? Anyway try to decrypt and respond back on here.

yes, yw
i get a lot of that, this place is full of arrested development fans lol
new season starts in 6 days :D wooot
Correct... I used fake info (name, email) setting up my keys. I couldn't decrypt that message. It's probably because I gave you the "wrong" public key (I would still like to know what the difference between these two public keys are. Any PGP4usb users online?).
Will you try this one?
i just recently switched to gpg4usb yesterday

Under Key Management, do you have the key with the name and email you chose, as well as one that is named "gpg4usb-project," with gpg4usb@cpunk.de as the email? I don't understand what that one is there for.

I think any place should be full of arrested development fans! If you have seen it, and don't like it, there's probably something wrong with you! Definitely in the top 3-5 all time funniest shows!
Oh, and I second that wooot!!! ;D

I'm a Linux guy so I'm not sure about that proxy, but I wouldn't worry about it. You're up and running with the one that works, so you're good to go. As long as you can encrypt/decrypt that's all that matters really.
-

i have only downloaded it. i havent set it up and made my keys yet. i'll probably do it tonight. what that looks like is the public key for the person who made the program. maybe they left it in there in case you want to talk to them. you only need the public key you made to give to people.
-
That makes sense. Thanks for the help, Chino, everybody.
-
Hi Proxanne! I'm new also, and also decided that spamming to 50 wasn't my thing. I had trouble finding the right PGP software too, but eventually landed on gpg4usb, and it seems pretty reasonable. Nice to meet you.
-
FYI, the key of gpg4usb@cpunk.de is the developer's key, it's there to verify the signature of their program. You can see that's it's not YOUR public key because it doesn't have any private key attached to it! Obviously, only the developers of gpg4usb will be able to read the messages you encrypted with it.
-
does anyone use the signature feature?
from what i quickly read it just verifies that someone wrote a public message or email. i dont understand how it works really
-
gpg4win is best.
its easy< to install and use, anyone can do it.
i only use gpa .
-
i have recently switched to gpg4usb and i think its great. i think the layout and functionality is better then gpg4win. the main problem i had with gpg4win was i was getting like glitches and bugs or something when i tried to use the clipboard. the program would crash sometimes.

Hi all. I am new here and I see this thread about GPG4win and the other USB package. I thought I would put in a plug for TAILS. I started with gpg4win and the TOR browser for windows and got that figured out (eventually), but then I was reading about TAILS and decided to try that instead. It is a self-contained secure OS unit you can install on a bootable USB drive. Includes a browser and easy-to-use gpg interface (plus email and private messaging and other basic tools I have not tried). More info here : https://tails.boum.org/ and on several threads here on the boards.
I just received my first two SR orders from established vendors with good reviews, stealth etc. Nothing but professionalism so far!
Cheers,

Hi there...nice thread.
I'm a new vendor so hoping to slowly prove my quality and credentials with really nice product and good business ethics.
So good luck all...anyone who wants to try a new vend, then you're very welcome to come browse my wares ;)

yes, everyone should be using tails. in the case your computer gets seized they can retrieve so much information of your harddrive. even if you reformat. using tails leaves no trace you were ever using tor or visiting SR on your main computer.
