Title: Question about transferring bitcoins
Post by: BigScrote on June 09, 2012, 12:49 pm
Hi all. New user here - apologies if this has been covered. I'm wondering really how many transfers my bitcoins should go through before I can feel 'safe'. I'm currently holding them on an exchange and on mt. gox. Should I be transferring through instawallet a few times to rinse them? I'm in Canada, if that means anything.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the Silk Road tumbles your coins for you when you transfer them here.

I think it really depends on how much you're transferring though. If it's just a few hundred dollars worth, I don't really think it's necessary to wash your coins, unless it'll make you sleep better at night.

If you're transferring thousands of dollars and buying bulk amounts of drugs, then it's probably a good idea to send them through 2 or 3 wallets before sending them here.

Can't stop singing Culture Club now lol.

Thanks very much for the info. I'm definitely not transferring more than 30 or so BC, so that sounds good. I'm small potatoes.

I know it's better to be safe but aren't they effectively untraceable as it is?

Not at all! They can be traced through the blockchain. That's why it's best to use a laundry service like bitcoin fog.
