I highlight it and right click and am given these options > cut, copy, paste, delete    No "save as" or decrypt options, nice huh?

i had a simmilar problem when i started, it was because i had the relivant encrypt/decrypt options un ticked in my services preferences ( again, im sure im using diff software but it could be the same principal. )

on your menue bar look for a services option, if that leads to services preferences or something like that set all the ones related to pgp on.

whatever the issue it sounds like its your settings that are the problem and not nessisarily what you are doing.

I've got no options to do anything like that.  I'm staring at a brick wall.

Typically if someone has sent you an encrypted message, it is encrypted with your public key, and you would use your secret key to decrypt it.  If you can't find the tool to perform this operation on the clipboard, you can paste the contents into a plain text file. Then select it in the main window of GPA and you should be able to decrypt it.
