Title: Avoid TheSource -- Dickhead Scammer
Post by: scratchthis on May 05, 2013, 06:19 pm
I placed a relatively small order with TheSource back in April. They marked it "InTransit" the next day. Time goes by, they don't respond to my messages, they don't log in to the site for two weeks or so.

The deadlines finally passed and I took it to the resolution center. I proposed a 100% refund, but heard nothing back. Now their deadline to respond has past and I'm waiting for SR to follow their own rules and give me my money back.

I just noticed on TheSource's profile page that some other poor soul had the same thing happen, but screwed up and pressed the wrong button in the feedback center and released their payment.

Hopefully, I'm not out any money, depending on how the refund works, given the bitcoin price swings, but I'm still waiting on SR support.

[Unwarranted comments about SR support removed. Sorry, I let my frustration get the better of me.]

Once again, don't order from TheSource.

Later,

The site has been under attack for the past 2 weeks..you have to excuse them for your $200 not being their top priority right this second. Threatening to leave isn't going to change anything either. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" comes to mind.

Besides you haven't lost anything yet either. They will do right.

Mate, considering all that has been and still is going on at the moment, show a little patience. SR Support will get to your little problem as soon as they can.

Now, I'm waiting for support to do their job and refund my money since the resolution deadline was over a day ago

Fuck mate, the world doesn't revolve around you. "A day ago"!!!! There are more important issues to deal with such as keeping the site open and finding solutions to defeat the attacker. At least the site is operational. Atlantis is no better than SR. SR is and always will be the flagship anonymous market IMO. I've had nothing but great experiences and certainly won't be "jumping ship" because I might have some trouble logging in on certain occasions. Just be grateful we have the opportunity to buy drugs online in a safe and secure environment.

Here's a better description of why I'm irritated by the (non)actions of SR Support. Ten days ago, I sent them this message:

Quote
I have an extensive spotless record as a buyer on Silk Road.

On 4/18, I ordered <product description omitted> from the vendor TheSource, specifying USPS Priority shipping. Less than 24 hours later the order was marked as "In Transit". Nothing has shown up. I know it's been "only" a week, but Priority shipments to my address (major East Coast city) almost always arrive in two days, sometimes three. The profile page for TheSource says he was last seen "7 days ago". I've sent him multiple messages, but obviously since he's not online, they remain unread. To make matters worse, as far as I can tell, TheSource has never completed an order. There is no feedback from finalized transactions on his profile page. It says he has 100% positive feedback, but there's no transaction count.

All this information strongly suggests that I have almost no chance of receiving my order. I suspect that you will not even be able to get a response from him if you try to contact him regarding this matter. I would really like to have the order canceled and the entire expense of the purchase returned to my account with no negative impact on my record.

Thanks for your help. I'm sorry to bother you with this, given your recent heroic battle with the DOS dick, but I'm in a position where I really need those funds so I can buy from an authentic vendor.

They responded with a one line message referring me to the FAQ. Yet, I've read recent forum stories where vendors' accounts have been suspended and escrow funds returned to buyers outside of the normal resolution process.

Well, I still wish that things could've been moved along a little faster, but despite my immature rant, SR did the right thing and all is well with the world. (Except for that one guy who got scammed because the wording in the resolution page is slightly confusing.)

For those who have never gone into resolution, *don't* click "Release Payment" unless you want to give the money at stake to the vendor. It's essentially the same as finalizing.

Glad you finally got your refund. If it happens again with a different vendor, instead of sending SR Support a message, click the "report this vendor" button on the vendor's homepage and detail your experience there. SR believes that a buyer should open a dispute in the Resolution Center if there is a problem rather than sending messages without an open dispute.

My alarm bells would have been going off big time knowing this!!

Okay. Cool. Good advice.

Yeah, I was a little wary, but at the time, TheSource was the only domestic vendor stocking the product I was after. Live and learn. Maybe I've just been lucky, but up until this point, I've only had positive experiences with SR vendors. Of course, there's always issues about substance purity, but in more than one case, vendors have gone out of their way to compensate me when something went wrong.

TheSource has sent me a note offering to send me product gratis to compensate for his screw-up. He offered an excuse for failing to come through originally (computer issues, basically). I'm not sure how to respond. On the one hand, it's nice of him to offer and he certainly didn't have to. It is possible that he did have some problems getting access to the site. On the other hand, the excuse was pretty flimsy and I'm not sure why he couldn't have logged in from somewhere else if only to give people messages about the delay.

For now, I told him that I'm waiting to see if the one guy who is out money changes his rating and comment to indicate that TheSource did reship to him.

Am I overly paranoid if I worry about giving TheSource my address for fear that he might use it for some malicious end? That seems pretty stupid and he hasn't given me any reason to think that he might.

It seems unfair of me not to give him the opportunity to compensate me and re-establish his credibility.

Thoughts,
