Title: Newb didn't set up Localbitcoins via Tor. How much concern?
Post by: EthanHuntMoHawk on June 27, 2013, 12:39 am
New here to SR. Getting the hang of it for sure. I want to be as stealth as poss.

The only place a may have flubbed is when I set up my localbitcoin account, I used a regular browser, tied it to a throw away email from the same browser.

I bought some BTC local and anon.

When I dumped them from LBC into my SR wallet, I used Tor for sure.

I feel like now I should have just used Tor for everything.

I think I'm gonna just start from scratch using 100% Tor.

Thoughts on if this is necessary?

BitCoins are not illegal, so unless you're purchasing a lot of BTC it shouldn't be an issue. I purchase mine over ClearNet from a very above-ground source (straight from my bank account).

If you're in the USA, using Tor for everything (and not just DeepNet) is OK... but remember, your ISP knows that you're using Tor if you don't use Bridges/VPN. Use TAILS to be safe.

It's been mentioned that some online sites may log and record people that connect to their website via Tor (banks, USPS, .gov, etc), so you may want to use ClearNet for ClearNet things, and Tor for DeepNet things. That's what I do.

You'll be fine. I did the same thing. Clearnet to buy Localbitcoins.
