Title: PGP and SR messaging
Post by: onlyin2012 on July 23, 2012, 12:30 am

When you message on SR, using a tor browser on the tor network you're safe and anonymous.  So... why is using PGP any better or is it just a backup in case SR ever goes down and you need to communicate?

Thanks,
O

It sounds like you think Tor is a perfectly anonymous system; it's not. Do some reading on how your identity can still be traced back to you while on Tor and what you can do it stop that from happening.

Also, why send out personal information, such as confirming your address and name, and not encrypt it? That's just asking for trouble. Encrypting takes seconds and ensures that only you and the receiver can read it.

You're putting too much trust in SR, remember at the end of the day SR is a third party in your transactions. PGP encryption allows you to message with another person securely so that no one else can read it except that person and vice versa. If SR were to ever get hacked would you rather have your address/sensitive messages encrypted in PGP or plain text?
