Title: Difference Between DCN (Delivery Confirmation) and Tracking Number
Post by: PlaneMode on May 14, 2012, 10:17 pm
Many people do not realize the difference between USPS tracking numbers and USPS delivery confirmation:

A USPS tracking number offers real-time package progress information which allows you to follow the progress of your package  and see when your package was delivered.

A delivery confirmation number (DCN) only tells you when and if your package was delivered but will not show you package progress along the way.

USPS tracking number offers both package progress tracking as well as delivery confirmation.

Word up!

I actually wasn't quite sure what DCN was, so, thanks.

Good post...  I've brought this up many times, but it always seems to fall on "deaf ears", as people are going to do what they want to do.  The DCN protects the vendor, and is really of little use to a buyer... which is why many vendors will not give them out.

it really sucks, that we don't have such a system... the only way, I can send with "tracking" - same like "DCN" in the US, the receiver has to SIGN FOR + anybody would do that...

On many Priority Mail packages with DCN I have actually seen the DCN show "Arrival At Post Office" first thing in the morning on the day of delivery. Not really FULL tracking, but at least you know for sure it's going to be in your mailbox later on in the day :)

I send large orders of 25i/c certified since it isn't illegal.
