I've registered an account on SR but I want to be sure I'm in the right place and not a scam site before I begin shopping. Can anyone help?

was the url of the site you registered on this? look carefully http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion
if so, that's the correct site

Whatever you do don't use Hidden Wiki to go to Silk Road, that place is a fucking scam site full of scummy fucks that change the links all day. I had been going to SR from hidden wiki for about a year w/o any problem and suddenly the link changed and I thought it was one of the backup links DPR mentioned, I didn't know scummy fucks could change the links for commercial sites. Just copy + paste the link into a notepad and use it from there unless you're super paranoid about getting caught.

There should NOT be a .lu/silkroad in the URL!!!
Make sure to use Tor Browser Bundle, and then only use the precise URL that Intraterrestrial gave you (silkroadvb5piz3r.onion)

OK thank you. Tor bundle - check, precise URL - check. The account i registered on the .lu/silkroad URL is valid on the proper site btw. i'm going to register a new account though to be on the safe side.
Good to know you people are out there and willing to help.

the .lu is a proxy so you can navigate to SR on the clearweb. it's not safe for this precise reason. might be worth signing up for another account and letting that one die. just in case - no one got pinched for being TOO paranoid ;)

When storing the link http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion on notepad or any document, I'd take it a step further and encrypt it first, using your own public key.
I have all of my questionable links stored on notepad, but it's in a PGP encrypted message. I decrypt it every time I need to see them.
Yes, it's an extra step and a bit more hassle, but I have peace of mind knowing that even if my PC was seized by LEO, they wouldn't be able to read it!!

or you could just use tails and put all the links on a persistence drive so it's encrypted regardless when you boot up tails!
