Title: Anybody use/heard of the I Ching before?
Post by: hwallclimber on February 08, 2013, 06:28 am
It's an ancient Chinese divination practice, has reached moderate levels of popularity in recent history. Phillip K Dick wrote a book using it.

Anyway, instead of spamming my way to 50 posts, I figured I could at least offer a service if anybody wants to ask a question seeking guidance or insight.

It's a really slow night at work.

Indeed he was! Synchronistically enough, I discovered Terence and the I Ching within a month of eachother! Made listening to some of his raps about the timewave much easier.

I have used for 40 years. great tool to reflect your mind.

I've been using it for almost 2, and I agree wholeheartedly, it is a great meditative aid. I religiously cast for guidance for the coming month at every full moon, it just gives me something to think about when I've got a moment to relax, or when I am faced with a decision.

Which translation do you use? I have the Wilhelm on my kindle, it makes it so easy to jump from hexagram to hexagram, and it's way more portable than lugging around the big ol' hardcover (my brother has that one). Still, I'd like to get the hardcover to have an "analog" backup!

I used to have a set of coins, but never threw them and never had the book to determine them either. I always preferred the Tarot for a divination or meditation tool myself.

Although as another aside, I've heard of people using Finnegan's Wake by James Joyce for divining (bibliomancy), maybe since the text is so bizarre and dreamlike...

Fascinating! I've never heard of that, I'm going to look into it.
