Title: Display an average "Time To Ship"
Post by: Torn on September 29, 2011, 10:19 pm
Problem: Sometimes a vendor is swamped for whatever reasons and is lagging behind in getting an order "in transit", it would be nice to know a vendor's current track record for getting product out in a timely fashion so the user can make an even more informed decision.

Proposed Feature: Calculate and display a median "Time-to-ship" per listing or vendor

Details: Since SR knows when an order was placed and when the vendor has marked it "in transit", display the median time for that for the last 25 transactions (picking '25' kinda at random to express the idea that its a current snapshot based on recent information). Anyway, the point being that the SR system has some insight into how much a vendor might be lagging behind getting current orders out and surfacing that information to the users would be useful in their decision making process.

Cons: Like everything, this data could be "gamed" and vendors would just start marking things 'in transit' earlier. I think however that reviews and reputation would counter-act that to some degree.

This isn't to besmirch the vendors for having lives, hitting a rough patch or being successful. Without its kickass vendors SR would be nothing. It's just to give factual insight to a user trying to make the best decision possible in an efficient way (its really inefficient to pester a bunch of vendors just to see who's running on time and after a while I think it would annoy the vendor).
