Any other noobs using Liberte and booting from a USB for secure surfing?
Still has some kinks in it, but feels nice to browse a bit more anonymously...
Nice to have all the tools you need and stored on a USB for easy disposal is something should happen...

I don't think I could trust an OS made by 4chan's anons. I use Tails instead, it's a bit more serious.

@awhiteknight
linky?

does Tails have evrything built in as well? PGP and all that good stuff?
whats the pro and cons of each?

I've had a bit of a look at Liberte Linux's docs and it does look better than I expected for one of these operating systems by Anonymous, it at least has a real person running it who is into security.
Liberte is hosted on a website named after a 4chan meme and has that awful anonymous image, which suggests to me it's aimed at users who are engaged in hacking, trolling and online activism. Tails appears to be more geared at spies, government officials and bearded crypto-anarchist cypherpunks.
Then again I should STFU and try building Liberte from source, investigate its security functionality and the culture around it instead of going on a gut feeling like this.

thanks for the reply!
pretty interesting stuff!
are you able to load Tails on USB like Liberte?

im using whonix in a virtual machine. its a debian derivat using an client/ server architecture to provide a high grade of anonymity. what do you think about it?

Nah I actually am one of the few that use linux as my main OS, but I use arch linux on most of my computers and fedora on the shared one :)
I have never used any security specific ones though I might give one a try, I have enough space for a 1 gig partition.

defiantly give it a shot...
i came from a linux background back in the day but got out of using when my needs changed...
kinda nice having a nice, secure, stable OS boot from USB...

My old PC had a deteriorating win7 machine with a Ubuntu dual-boot and now my other PC is running Fedora 17 (Gnome: love it or hate it, I fell in love with it) and I have a small partition with BT5 for some playing around >:)

Or just get a Debian or Knoppix live CD/DVD if you don't need persistence.
You'll have to install tor package every time you use it, but it otherwise hides in plain site very well. The Debian install CD/DVD of all things is going to be far more scrutinized for security than Liberte or Tails.
GPG is installed by default on linux.

check out Tails! it's awesome
