heroin washing methods found online are complicated/dangerous (ether, etc). but lots of ppl wash coke hcl with acetone with great results. just wondering, why can't you do a simple acetone wash of #4 heroin? anyone know the chemistry? i know the reason it works with coke is that coke hcl is not highly soluble in acetone, but lots of the usual cuts are. so you wash it, evap the acetone, and ur done, with a lot cleaner coke. so i assume heroin salt must be highly soluble in acetone, eh? is that why i never see anyone discussing it?

Yep, is soluble I think. I don't really know the chemistry too well, but heroin's proper name is diacetylmorphine. To create heroin you have to acetylise morphine. I know acetone isn't involved in that process, acetic anhydride is, but both chemicals are related.

ok i found a doc saying heroin hcl is only sparingly soluble in acetone. so should be no problem. should work just like coke hcl. so why don't people do it? i'm very tempted to wash/evap a gram. surely there are acetone soluble cuts that i'd be rid of, eh?

Can you post a link to the doc please? I'd be happy to test it out on some cheap street gear from around the way.

I assume the idea is to purify the gear? Search in the Heroin - Vendors thread, somewhere in Jan, Feb, Mar this year a guy name Opi posted details on heroin purifying. He didn't get 100% purity but he got pretty close. Remember that after purifying your doses are going to be small (~15-20mg) so be careful. BTW acetone is not involved in the process.

i hear ya. but you know, you can block your pdf reader with your firewall. anyway, i saved it as text but that messed up the layout so bad it's worthless. so here's a screenshot of the first couple pages with the solubility table (doc is 24 pages total), i don't know shit about image hosts so i hope this one's ok i found it by searching this forum.

edit - what it says in plain english is, heroin hydrochloride monohydrate (C21H24NO5Cl.H2O) is sparingly soluble in acetone, freely soluble in chloroform, insoluble in ether, insoluble in hexane, very soluble in methanol, and freely soluble in water.
as for heroin base (C21H23NO5), it's soluble in acetone, freely soluble in chloroform, slightly soluble in ether, slightly soluble in hexane, sparingly soluble in methanol, and insoluble in water.
oh and fwiw, the coke doc from the same source says coke hcl is very slightly soluble in acetone. how "sparingly soluble" compares with "very slightly soluble" is something for a chemist to answer but to this dumdum it doesn't sound like an acetone bath would hurt a horsey.

Sparingly soluble means you could probably use it for a recrystallization if you use like 50mL/g I've used absolute ethanol before on ECP and it worked well but pure alcohol is hard to obtain, I'm not sure if anhydrous IPA would work as well.
