I had quite a novel idea. I'm a digital hoarder, I have 15tb of movies and TV, mixture of bluray rips (about 1500 of them, 1080p and 720p mixed) and 4000 xvid films, plus a lot of tv shows completed.
I was wondering what people think about an offer of a brand new hard drive filled up with a selection of media.
I can make lists of my media so people could pick and choose, or you just make general requests and I'll dump it in.
A lot of ISPs are putting caps on downloading so this could save a lot of time, not to mention you could find some rare films you've been looking for a long time.
I'd buy the hard drive near me, and fill it up and ship it, and with the shipping would include the receipt for the hard drive so you know it's new and not some random old one that might fail haha.
Price wise, what do you think is a good offer ? I'd say for a 2tb hard drive (1.81tb formatted) you could have:
280-380 720p films (Most are 4.7gb but some are 6 and some are 8)
About 200 1080p films (Most are about 9-10 gigs but some go up to 15, 20gb)
Roughly 1800 Xvids (Split between 700mb and 1.4gb per movie, some are 2.1)
Just a metric shit ton of tv eps!
Or a mixture of the lot
Would people be happy to pay say, price of hard drive + £60 for all that ? And 2 drives for £90 ? This is such a low risk item but cost of me going to buy it and shipping, and time to fill it I reckon that's a good offer.
Lemme know your thoughts :)

possibly. but you're in the wrong section brotha, re-post this in the "product offers" section

very interested. i have to imagine all of these vid files could be transferred to a cd/dvd for easy viewing? if you end up making a separate thread for this discussion, please provide a link so I can find my way to it :)

Totally! The guilt of the pirate bay is starting to wear on me. I'd love to buy at least 5 tb. I just jailbroke my appletv with a time capsule and two 3 TB back up drives. Final was able to cancel netflicks and hopefully cable next.

Thanks for the replies, it's great to see interest in this! Will be good for me because apart from buying the drive it's not going to cost me anything, and as it's just a drive, can use recorded post to make sure there's no losses.
Habitat I don't have a vendor account yet and you need one to post in there.
Thetruth I could do any size you want, could even setup the drives in software RAID in windows so you have it all as 1 array.
It's going to be a week or 2 I hope before I can get the money together to get a vendor account then I'll put this up.
Would be good if I had a PO Box then people could send me their hard drives and I could fill them, reducing costs - HDDs at the moment are more expensive than usual because a manufacturing plant flooded, causing a global shortage, so even though they're now back up to about 80% capacity, the price bump is expected to stay up until about Q1 2013
If you guys want to either list here stuff you think is rare or big collections you'd be interested and if I don't have them I'll start downloading them so they're ready if you do decide to buy :)

What about music also?

Ha just realized I don't need to pussyfoot around on here because of the anonymity and nobody caring :D
I'm in the warez scene, for those that don't know what that is, proper piracy starts on servers called topsites, which are basically big FTPs, and warez groups store their releases on there, and transfer them to one-another ("racing"). I'm a siteop and run 2 different type of sites. One that is "owned" either by a group or a few groups who banded together and need a reliable op, and the other is where I run the box for an owner who has no connections to the warez scene but has a box in a good location.
Because of this I have about 800tb of data spread across 50 or so servers, so maybe 200-300tb of unique content. The problem with music is it's size. It would be a nightmare sifting through that many releases to download such small amounts - it would take me weeks to get enough music to fill a drive.
But I could grab it in "lumps" either by genre, year, etc. but to be honest I'd rather not have to mess about doing that, would rather stick to films and TV.
I could also do PS3/Xbox360/PC games but if a large amount of these is wanted it would take more time, I don't keep them locally so would need to download them as requested (I have a 14mbit connection so it's just under 2h per xbox360 game)
I'm going to look into getting a PO Box, that way it gives people the option to send me their drives instead of having to buy a new one.
Prices at the moment for a 2tb drive are £90...they were £67 this time last year so it gives you an idea of how badly that flood affected prices
You could always go lower but there's not much point, 1tb is £75 for 2tb is the best bang for buck.
So I reckon £150 for a hard drive filled with 2tb worth of stuff...sound like a good deal ? That way I make £50 (would cost £10 shipping to you).

no you don't. if you have a forum account, then you can post there. I don't have a venders account and I can post there. how do I know? because I just did to test it out, since I wasn't sure if the admins changed anything and you were right. but nope. you, or I, or anyone can post there. you definitely do not need a venders account to post a topic in "product offers"
-
I know I can post in there I meant I read the rules and it said you need a vendor account to offer products. I'll put up a post there though as well, hopefully won't get in trouble haha

na man, you'll be fine. many people post there before they have venders accounts just to gauge whether or not they should even get one.
and besides, I will even bet you that you'll get more responses posting in that thread - since members are already on the look out for new venders and new deals there to begin with. not many people are looking for new products here, in the general thread.

Definitely interested, to the point of "will definitely buy once more BTC are acquired."
Just a note, be sure to pack those things incredibly well. Hard drives are prone to breaking even without the shipping factor.
-
Reading the title I thought this was going to be pretty stupid, but now that I think of it, it's not to bad an idea and not to heft a price for such a quantity of movies. I mean, if you need a hard drive to it's worth it.

I recreated the thread here: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=13687.0
Would you fine gents please make a post in there too ? More replies make more people look at it :)
