Hey I have a PO box under my real name and with my real id on file.
However, I signed up a fake name as a second mail recipient and they didn't make me provide any form of id for that name.
I've had several packages shipped to that name with no problem
So if a package under my alternate name were to be seized, would I be liable?
thanks

That's really clever. I have no idea. If a package was caught coming to that box, you would probably be questioned about the second person, and that may cause obvious problems.

You could possibly be held liable if you accepted a package that was intercepted and they were performing a controlled delivery. You signed for/accepted it; Therefore it's yours. Even if you then used the "it's his though" excuse, they would want to question "him", and "he" obviously doesn't exist. Problem. Just be sure to never accept a package if anything seems suspicious(pickup tickets for items that you're sure would fit in box/asked to sign for packs that don't require a sig, etc.). Otherwise, it's not a bad idea. But then again, as long as all goes well, your real name would work all the same.

Hello charptype,
In the event that a package was found, what is it that you would say when LEO came asking who the recipient is on your P.O. with you? You cannot justifiably say "I don't know" as you do not let someone use your mailbox without you knowing them. This puts you in an even more awkward situation than just using your own name.
Also, since you are the owner of the P.O. box you may still be accountable anyway.

I like this as an idea to help your cause.but if packages required to be signed for ( I know people will say don't do it) but I have seen some quantities that require it for chance of refund) you could not sign for these and that would be problematic. My lawyers reply to the question of who is this other person might include a statement that it was a previous border at my residence that recently moved!

I have phony business name attached to my real po box that justifies receiving packages from all over the world. It worked great for as long as i used it but i have a much better, more anonymous option now.
