Hello everyone,
I'm new to this whole SR stuff and I've posted one post on here about prices, which I now understand.
The thing is I'm really confused by is how to 'set-up' all of this bitcoin, bitwallet, PGP/ GPG, getting bitcoins etc. So, I'll write down what I've done so far and how I think it should go, but I'd very much appreciate it if someone could correct me on anything or, even better, break it down for me in step-by-step...steps.
So, this is what I have so far;
1. I have Tor Browser bundle which I access SR through
2. I have SR and SR forum account.
3. I've downloaded Bitcoin Wallet from bitcoin.org
4. I've been onto the PGP/ GPG site but am unsure of which version to download - either GnuPC 2.0 or 1.4; I see both are a bit different. Which one do I download, and once downloaded, is it just a matter of installing?
5. I've created an account on Mt. Gox but I haven't verified myself with my passport (why would I?!) but I'm a little confused as to how I actually obtain bitcoins, and then how I add them to my bitcoin wallet, AND THEN how I use them on SR.
6. I've read the wiki in the SR forums but what and how do I use Escrow for ultimate security?
That's what I've got so far, so my guess is it works like this; once everything is working;
1. I buy bitcoins through Mt. Gox (or other bitcoin provider, suggestions for better providers that don't ask for as much personal info?)
2. I am sent or given a code for my bitcoins which I then paste into my bitcoin wallet to add my bitcoins
3. I paste the same code into my SR wallet (do I have one?)
4. I obtain a PGP/ GPG code which I give to my vendor when sending across bitcoins or I give them an Escrow code for security, and them the same to me.
5. I make a purchase.
Is this right, if not, could someone please explain this to me and how to do it?
All I've ever wanted is to try DMT, and now I can get some thanks to SR and I REALLY want to try it, but I want to sort all this stuff out so I can actually make a purchase but it's just so frustrating and confusing I find I get lost easily by it all.
If I can get this and my bitcoins sorted, then I'll be a very happy chappy!
Not sure if it's of any use but I'm from the U.K. so I don't know if that changes anything in relation to bitcoins and what not.
If it's too public to post what I'm asking in this thread, then please, if you can help, private message me so I can get on my way to becoming a real Silk Roadian!
Thank you to anyone who can aid in my quest for visionary explorations!

1. I use the Tor Browser Bundle, good.
2. Ok.
3. Don't use the one that you need to sync, it's a lot easier to just use something like the blockchain.info wallet (web based, no downloads), or the Electrum client which connects to a remote server that is always synced. Of course you can use the normal client, but it's too slow in my opinion.
4. I use PortablePGP, works great!
5. I verified my Mt. Gox acct, no worries and I'll explain why later. I am still waiting for the Dwolla 30 days after deposit limit though, so I haven't got to use it yet. I made a deposit directly to my Electrum wallet with bitinstant. I paid in cold hard cash (greenbacks). If you want more info about how that went, see this thread: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=47190.msg502759#msg502759
6. Place and order and don't finalize until you get the product. They vendor doesn't get the money until you finalize, SR holds on to it.
.........
1. That is one option, like I mentioned you can also use something like bitinstant and pay with cash at a convenience store or something (they wire the money). The personal info is not a problem, it's really for security, and they need to do it by law (anti-money laundering laws). You can transfer the bitcoins you buy to any reputable bitcoin tumbling service, which makes it impossible to tell who you really sent the money to. The place I used for this was blockchain.info, they charge 1.5% to do this.
2. Usually you would need to provide an address for them to send the money to. When I paid at the convenience store to bitinstant, the coins were in my wallet by the time I got home.
3. Nope, you get an address to deposit to - click your balance at the top of the site and you'll get to a page with that address.
4. You use the PGP public key that your vendor provides to encrypt your address. Information encrypted with a public key can only be decrypted by the private key (which only the vendor has). See my above answer #6 for the escrow thing.
5. Escrow happens after you place an order. Neither you or the vendor hold the funds until you finalize or dispute the order.

Thank you so much!
I'll get onto this asap and set-up my stuff.
One last question, with Mt. Gox or anything like that, is it wise to use your tor mail account, or a standard mail account?
-
No problem.
Absolutely not ok to use your anonymous mail account with Mt. Gox. Use all your legit information and addresses. There's nothing illegal about bitcoin. Using your anonymous account would link your personal information to it.

if your in the uk, then mtgox isnt going to work for you as they stopped doing uk deposits ;)

I echo the sentiments of some of these people, just a FAQ or walkthrough so noobs can get started purchasing things would be great.

I bought bitcoins from intersango, i transferred money from my own UK bank account and had 20 bitcoins within a day.
