Title: VPN Worthwhile?
Post by: DrFarnando on August 06, 2013, 03:03 pm
Is it worthwhile to use a decent VPN to connect to TOR with for an added layer of security? I realize it'd hide TOR use from your ISP, but as TOR isn't illegal is that really an issue? I can see it mattering only for more deniability if investigated (at which point I'm not sure how much difference it'd make), or to draw less attention to yourself to begin with... but at that point to draw real attention to yourself you'd have to have already screwed up pretty badly.

Using a VPN with tor could actually make you less anonymous, If you connect to a VPN and then connect to Tor i think whoever operates the VPN can see what you are doing.

Tor is fine by itself provided you configure your tor browser properly, Disable javascript and set noscript to "forbid scripts globally"

For an extra layer of security you can use Tor from a public wifi connection.

https://www.phantompeer.com/

With Phantom Peer you can DDoS NSA all year long and they will never find you for mere $6.00 a month.

HAPPY VPN'ing.
