Title: tracking / Signature question for canada to usa
Post by: warforge on January 27, 2012, 09:34 pm
i have a small item coming from canada, took 4 days to get to ISC newyork, then needs to go down south. My question is canadian post shipped it express 2-3 day, one of the options said "signature" , not sure if a option or required, can't track it though now with canadian express, and USPS just says "REGISTERED MAIL" with no other options listed, you don't have to sign for registered mail going to your name in your PO BOX do you?

when you track it on canadapost site it has a shipping options thing near the botom, if it says sig required the it will probably be required. i would say if you got it express then you will probably have to sign.

Hello war. i've ordered express from Canada many times and had zero problems signing for it here in the USA. First time i did it... i didn't answer the door because i live in a community with a front office to drop off packages. The post office DIDN'T leave the package there though and i had to go to the post office to pick it up!!! i was REALLY nervous to say the least. Turned out to be nothing to worry about!!! got my package. signed for it and off i went  :D Now i just answer the door and sign for it to save myself the trip to the post office. hope this little story helps.

Currently I'm offering the option to use either regular post or express post.  Express post to Canada no sig is required, Express post to the US a sig IS required, same as International.  Tracking is available with all.  As I was trying to lay out shipping rules I felt that it might be stressful for a customer waiting to sign for a illegal package.  So I decided to make all Express orders replaceable for free if its lost/seized.  I think Canada post is in the same boat as USPS needing a warrant to search, so aslong as it's packaged properly and doesn't give off enough red flags, you should probably be fine.  Besides, there's not much you can do if its already on it's way.

BTW Be sure when you're checking tracking of the package via canada post that you do it from a secure setup.

I read in another thread that if you use tor or a proxy to trace a package... it will set off a flag for that particular piece of mail to be searched if it is still in transit. Sounds like total bullshit with about a .01% feasibility. What do you think anyone? ???

You can ship XpressPost from canada to usa with no signature easily. If you buy one of those flat prepaid envelopes, run a line through where the sig is and write 'no sig' then the postie won't ask for one, or write 'ok to safedrop'.

You can also change it online to remove any sigs.

And yes, don't use Tor to check your shipments. This has already been covered you google 'track a package' and use a 3rd party website w/Tor to check it for you like trackapackage.com or whatever

^What he said. Use a 3rd party.

Derpasaurus, Can you cross the signature section out on xpress post box parcels? or just the prepaid envelopes?  I read their website and the parcel xpress sign option is blank, so that must mean it is optional.  All the express post I've sent they've been asking for sig on arrival.  I'd love to be able to waive the signature part for my customers - it would make them feel much more safe.  I've had several ask me about this - and went in to the P O several times and we still haven't gotten any definite answer to this.
