Hello all
I made, what I thought would be, my first purchase earlier today. I came back to check the progress of my order just now and it had been cancelled by the seller. :'( I've contacted the seller asking why they cancelled and I'm just waiting on a reply.
I've just done a quick search on here and there seems to be a stigma attached to new buyers because some of them don't pay and try to get free drugs.
How do I get around this?
Thanks :)
-
If you've never bought anything on SR before, you should try to establish communication with a vendor before ordering - just so they get the sense you're probably not a scammer. :)
-
Oh right, my bad. :o
-
you can also finalize early if the seller has consistently gotten positive reviews. but as the above user said, communication goes a long way establishing trust
-
Most buyers end up finalizing a few purchases early.
Personally I feel fine with selling to new buyers, even 0/0 accounts, so long as they order something relatively inexpensive.
If you're interested in buying a few clonazepam or dexedrine (and live in the US or Canada) I'll sell to you in escrow to help get your stats up.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. It turns out he/shes just out of stock until next week :)

Sugar Mama loves new buyers! Hugs and kisses for all you first timers on the road. I also might have hugs for you if you were born in the 80's.
If you are new be sure to learn PGP!
-
Start small, develop a relationship with your vendor.
Work only with experienced highly rated vendors at first.
Report reviews in rumor forum. You vendor loves this ;)
Soon you will be respected.
I have a FAQ up how to improve your SR street credit.
They get ripped too easy by new buyers, so you feel the heat.

Sorry for sounding stupid, but what's PGP? ???

Before you make any purchases or communicate with vendors on Silk Road, you should learn what PGP (pretty good privacy) is. There is a free implementation of it called GPG (Gnu Privacy Guard) which works on Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix. Google it, I can't remember which page I used to learn it, but there is plenty of information out there if you're patient and willing to learn. There are probably threads that discuss it in the security section of this forum.
It basically allows you to encrypt your messages sent to a vendor using their own public key. It turns a message into a series of ascii characters, that once encrypted can only be decrypted by the vendor using his private key (which you don't have access to). If for example, you wanted to enquire about some illegal goods, and you don't want your message to be read by anyone other than the person you sent it to, PGP is the tool to use. Get used to it. Most vendors would prefer to use PGP, and not discuss things in the open. That way it protects you and the vendors words and identity, as long as yours and his private keys are never compromised. It's fiddly, but necessary. I encrypt all of my messages manually using the command line (in Linux). There are probably easier ways for non-tech-savvy individuals. When you look at a vendors page, he will have a PGP signature at the bottom of his page. This is his public key. You use this to encrypt any message you send to him. You will also attach your signature (which you create with PGP) to the message so he can send an encrypted message to you that only you can decrypt.

Yeah PGP is a must-have. Still working on figuring out completely...seems to be a lot harder to find good programs for Mac.
-
Wow that sucks!!!
-
I've read up on PGP & GPG. Very clever :D
-
i'm a new buyer but lurked and studied up for a month before making a purchase. i think this is a good approach, becoming knowledgeable in protocol and quality vendors before starting business. i read the faq like 4 times. i just didn't want to go in blind like a friend of mine did..
but i agree to a previous post that good communication is key. i really want to get to know my vendors and treat them as i do in-person dealers, which is very respectfully yet friendly. some of my best friends started off as my dealers.
i strongly believe in the very concept of SR. i think this is a wonderful place. impersonal yet like a community. hopefully there are plenty of other new buyers that see it that way...
*destiny*

Yup, this is all good advice to follow as a new buyer.
-learn PGP
-study up on the buyer experience
-establish comminucation with your vendor before hand
-try to find a vendor willing to do escrow. Don't go outside of it!
If you would like to practice sending messages with PGP feel free to give it a shot with me and I will see what I can do to help you get it down. here is my public key if you would like to try it out, just remember to send me your public key first! :

Will do.
However I'm having some trouble importing other peoples' public keys to my GPG. What I've done so far is copy the keys in to a TextEdit document (I'm on a mac) converted the text to a plain text document and then saved it on my desktop. I then try to import the document in to GPG but the window wont let me select the file.
Any help here? =/

once you establish a relationship of trust with vendors you've pretty much nothing to worry about. i have new users finalize early, but once they've ordered for me a couple few times allow them to order without pre-finalizing. i 've built up my rep, its up to the buyers to build up theirs just the same.
-
sorry jaffa, pc user here, not too familiar with macs. I know on a PC you select all file types and it will let you select the file, not sure how it works on a mac.
-
this is way also me as a vendor dont like new buyers..
look at this guy `nepalimsya from russia.!! just give me 1 \5
i have to deal with idiots like him.; this is now he thinks..

we are talking about 2 gr pep he he just burn me the level off new comers is low omg...
AA :(
-
AAkoven, You are inadequate. I really don't got the order. Seller dont want solve the problem, rude to pm on sl. earned 1/5. :(
-
U did not mail me nothing...U give me 1\5...before , I did send U a mail...
people like u are new on sr..have no respect..the new wave off buyers..not the light in the class.. ;)
1 month ago I never had people like U.

My first order on SR was with AAkoven and i must say he went out of his way to help me with my first purchase. He is one of the best vendors on SR and can be totally trusted. Nepalimsya always discuss with the vendor first before giving out low feedback scores that are totally unfair. The last thing we buyers want to do is totally piss off the top vendors on SR and then they decide to stop even selling to first time buyers or even worse decide to stop selling on SR at all.
Anyhow after saying all that just like to wish everyone a happy xmas to all on SR :-*

I only wish I could get a hold of some of AA's mdma! It's so hard to find good stuff here in the US.

I'm a new buyer myself and working on my first transactions. I started the following thread for those like us. not trying to toot my own horn or act cool, just trying to help the community. Cheers.

Are you using GPGTools (GPG Keychain Access)?
copy his whole blurb of gobbledy gook into a blank text edit document(including the "-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----" and all the way to the "-----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----"
then highlight everything you just pasted, right click, go to "Services", and choose "Import Key." that should do it.
now to encrypt a message, just type it out in a blank text document (don't forget to include your public key in the message so they can write back to you), highlight all, right click, choose "services," then choose "encrypt," and it should prompt you to choose who the recipient is. once you choose your vendor's key you should see your message turn into a bunch of gobbledy gook. copy this and PM it to your guy here on SR

Thanks for the help man. So I create a message in a TextEdit document and paste my public key in there at the end?
How do I find my own public key? :-\

haha, yeah, i spent a few days trying to figure that out too. just right click in the text document and there should be an option for "Open PGP: Insert my key"
oh, and just to be clear: you shouldn't be saving any text documents, just use text edit as a "clipboard"
-
1. When starting buy small quantities from established sellers. Read the product description and seller terms carefully.
2. PGP is highly recomended when buying. Learn how to use it properly. I recommend You to use WinPT together with GnuPG 1.4.x if You are running MS Windows. It takes some time to learn all options of WinPT, but when mastered it will make work easy and effective.
3. Learn how the Silk Road works, so you are less likely to screw up something or will not lose your head when something goes not as planned.

Have you checked off all the PGP options under System Preferences->Keyboard->Services? If it still doesn't work you can go into Keychain access, select your key and export it to your desktop. It'll appear as an ASCII file. Open it with textEdit and there's your public key.

I read your last post and tried doing this. However, under my System Preferences there is only a "Keyboard & Mouse" option and when I open that there is know "Services" option.
However, I don't suppose it matters now as I managed to export my public key to my desktop using the steps you provided. Thanks :D

Actually, I guess it does matter because I'm meant to encrypt my messages in TextEdit aren't I? Bugger, I need to fix this >:( Any help guys?

Kleopatra it your friend. Not sure about Mac but I only use Kleopatra for everything. Try this: http://p3lr4cdm3pv4plyj.onion/guides/kleotxt.html

OpenPGP is broken in Lion OS 10.7
I use it, but I worked out how using the following workarounds:
I made a text file I keep called 0001.asc
I paste the key into this file, then Command-S to save it, overwriting any previous keys.
I then change the filename by one increment (0001.asc becomes 0002.asc)
I then open GPG Keychain Access and import the keyfile (it HAS to have an ASC extension)
That takes care of importing keys.
I presume you already created your private/public key when you installed it. If you need help with this let us know.
To encrypt or decrypt a message I use a blank textedit document.
Type your text to encrypt, select-all (Command-A) then click Textedit/Services/OpenPGP: Encrypt
Select the recipient key by checking the box next to their name, check the bottom box to sign it and click ok.
Enter your password and the text will be encrypted and you can cut (Command-X) and paste it where you want to (Command-V).
Decrypting I paste their encrypted text into the document, click Textedit/Services/OpenPGP: Decrypt
It asks for my password and the text is decrypted.
Could I do it easier? Probably... but I know this works.
OH... and DO NOT try to use the services menu to do anything PGP wise in Aurora or it frigs the whole thing up, and you'll have to close TOR and reopen it.

"Textedit/Services/OpenPGP" There is no OpenPGP option under Services in my TextEdit. :o

hmmm....well thats odd.
what version of osx are you using?
did you indeed fully install GPGTools and create your key?
Try using the "Mail" application to see if you've got options there. just open a blank email and right click and hover over "Services" to see if you've got any OpenPGP options there.

This hit me today. I'm still using Leopard :o No wonder I've been having problems. I've sent an email to the guys over at GPG so hopefully they'll be able to sort me out.

It turns out GPG Tools for Mac is designed for OS X 10.6 and up. Damn! >:(
Does anybody have any recommendations for PGP software that works on Leopard?

lol
time to upgrade, dude. it'll be worth the 30 bucks
