Title: Whats the ultimate authority when it comes to REALLY deleting something?
Post by: Ibiza on July 01, 2013, 04:57 pm
Is CCleaner's Drive Wiper good enough?  I also see Eraser been mentioned a lot.  And I'm not talking about erasing an entire hard drive, just files which I don't want recovered via computer forensics (as in after "shift-delete").

CCleaner is fine depending on what wiping scheme you choose to use.  The Peter Gutmann (35 pass) scheme is safest but takes a very long time.
