Title: Has anyone noticed lots of buyers still Finalizing Early?
Post by: Wadozo on June 15, 2012, 07:14 am
Recently before making a purchase, I was looking at the feedback of some potential vendors and couldn't help but notice the amount of buyers"Finalizing Early". I know some may be first time buyers and that some vendors may offer deals which seem to the naked eye like there bargains but SR has Escrow in place for a reason. Many buyers are writing how they've been screwed and lost their bitcoin, which we all work hard for,  cause a vendor asked them to finalize early but we need to keep pushing the message that if you finalize early, your risking losing your bitcoin or having to reach an agreement with a vendor where basically what ever they say goes. Most of the top SR vendors don't require buyers to finalize early and while I realize not finalizing early can cause a cash flow problem for some of the smaller vendors, we as buyers should follow the "Buyer's Guide" which promotes the use of the Escrow system. I for one would never pay up front for something I haven't received. :)

You hit all the major points of the problems with FEing at vendor's request, however there are some buyers that strangely WANT to FE, it appears. One thing that frustrated me when I was new here was combing through dozens of "finalizing early' feedback just to find one or two actual feedback. It also seems odd that many buyers think that the actual Feedback post is what does the Finalization... In the rare case that I do FE, I don't leave a feedback until received.

I can understand a few points from the vendors' point of views, but if you don't have the extra funds around to have your orders in escrow, that's a good sign that it needs to be slowed down some. I've heard of cannabis-only vendors pushing 10-50k of product a week. Then there's the problem of buyers not finalizing when product received... Which is a legitimate problem, but I wouldn't vend until I knew I could handle keeping funds in escrow for 3+ weeks for all orders.

There's only one vendor I will FE for nowadays, and that's PuffBuddy. He was the first vendor I went with, and he only requires FE on his special sale listings. He's even told me he's OK with me not finalizing for his special listings, but I do anyway. Only for him though! I always Finalize within 5 minutes of opening the package, no exceptions.

Also, that reminds me, the Buyer's Guide also recommends using a fake name, which has since proven to be a terrible idea. I'm glad that I did my research and listened to vendors' suggestions to never use a fake name. Ah well!

Using a fake name has worked for me and some friends of mine many times. It really depends on what country you live in as they all have different procedures and systems in place. Just make sure you do your research first. ;D

Ooh, really? I always see vendors blaming packages getting lost on buyers using fake names. I can see that happening, but there's an infinite number of reasons a package could get lost, I suppose. The Guide does mention testing your fake name with a letter, which is a great idea. Definitely depends on how lax the mail carriers are. On another semi-related note, I'd say over half of my received orders don't have their stamps cancelled, so I can usually recycle them for some eBay sales. :D Some USPS workers definitely bend/ignore their own rules, lol.

Anyway, sorry to derail the thread subject! Although you are OP, lol... I think lots of buyers don't do the research and don't fully understand how SR works... I'm still learning new things everyday here! Also, I think it has to do with the 'sheep mentality' behavior, new buyers see other buyers FEing and think it's normal. I definitely disagree with this 'all buyers must FE' practice some vendors are doing, it simply goes against all SilkRoad rules and ideals.

I have FE'd a couple of times but it was for $10 bucks or less an also for a well established vendor with 100%.. When you gain trust with a vendor after a few transactions then it seems to be more affable.  Some vendors do get so overwhelmed with orders that they need the cash to keep shipping out orders.

Talking about fake names, I was living with someone a couple months back and we both were using inbox dollars but we could not use the same address with it so one of us used 502 and one of us used 503 in the mailbox numbers and the mail man was good about it and knew where to put the mail. The mail man at the new address wont do that. What a dick head. If I was a mail man and I knew where to put somebodies mail then I would put it in the right box even if it was addressed to the next door mail box. Why be a fucking asshole about it when you know this person is waiting on that check

hey realXimpact, has anyone guessed what game you got that name from?

I've read on the forums previously that in the U.S, the postal service links peoples names with their addresses. Other people have said to never use a fake name in the U.S for that very reason. I don't know how true that is, but it has been mentioned numerous time before. Fortunately, I live in a country where that definitely doesn't happen and will hopefully stay that way for many years to come. :)

u carnt really blame buyers ive got more than 10 transactions and 0% refunds and all that shit but i wanted to try tar and my mate meth and were in eu so to try it off 2 different guys i had to FE or dont try it and i think it was worth the risk .the meth has arrived the tar hasnt but i think it will and u wont see me crying if it dosnt .

if u refuse to FE u carnt use half the vendors and im not willing to stick to shitter stuff just incase i get ripped. unless a vendor has massive backers or is rich there gonna struggle to feed the demand staying in escrow especially if doing international

if like me u still do FE if u have to to try there stuff u carnt bitch if u do get scammed though, infact ive probably FE every time between noriaga c63 company mjmm and havent been scammed yet ,of course i would have been if i had scored of nor in 4/20 but i didnt

Finalizing early is a pain in the you know what! As a new member here though, a lot of vendors won't ship your order unless you finalize early.

I can understand both sides of the argument. It would be a good idea if we were able to pay half upfront, then half when the order arrives, or something like that.

That way, the vendors can still have some cash flow to keep their inventory stocked.
