I'm wondering if there is a good drug to take in order to come down from a trip with a psychedelic that hits too hard on the 5-HT2x receptors. I have cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) which is a serotonin antagonist. Would this be a good candidate to counteract a trip that's gone too strong or one you just want to come down from?

Flexeril won't stop a trip.
Benzo's are preferred and most commonly used.
For almost instantaneous stoppage, IM/IV Lorazepam is the absolute best way.
I'm not much for needles myself, but from research and personal misfortune can say it does indeed work, and very quickly.
Though Serotonin Syndrome is relatively rare, you still want to take every measure you can possibly take to avoid it. Pure and insufferable agony is the best way to describe it.
Depending on what psychedelic you are on, I believe there are certain other ways and medications that will diminish your trip and bring you back to baseline.
Trips that get too strong are usually best to try and ride out, digging deeper into your own mind and allowing yourself to push deeper into the mind's eye.
Hopefully this is what you're looking for - if you have any more questions shoot.

Thanks for the reply. It sure would be nice to have an "emergency" come-downer should things get out of hand but I wouldn't dream of having IV Lorazepam on standby. Not sure that I could get my hands on some anyway.
What I do have is Flexeril. If it doesn't work to kill a 2Cx buzz will it at least in your opinion work to ease up on the muscle tension. It's a muscle relaxant after all but not sure how it would react with brain chemistry.
Thanks again

From my own brief experience with Flexeril. The side effects way out weigh the benefits, which are very slim to begin with.
I doubt there is much positivity or demand for Flexeril out there. Simply because, it's not effective and you can't catch a buzz with it.
Plus I don't think it would remotely stop your trip, but it might make you violently ill.
The majority of bad trips, you want to try and ride out. Change your environment and remember that you are tripping and eventually it will end.
I believe benzo's to be their most helpful at the very tail end of your trip when you "feel a bit cracked out" and need to relax and head to bed.
Also with Flexeril you are missing the next fastest method of absorption for killing/reducing the intensity of your trip if need be. Sublingual.
Xanax is tried and true to reduce the intensity of trips, and at the right dosage will kill them completely.
Eventually the CNS depressant effects of benzodiazepines overwhelm and dull the brains processing.
Essentially clogging and stopping neural transmissions from happening.
This process happens gradually, and at the tail end of your trip - you will hardly notice a shift in perception.
Usually most psychedelics can be pleasantly come down from via 1-2mg's of Xanax/Etizolam/Valiuum/(insert benzo here).
At around this time, I usually either pack a bowl and take some kratom or reach for something else.
However, in this process there is one huge downfall. The dulling and numbing of your receptors by killing your trip.
Will inhibit the knowledge and revelatory experiences you experienced during your trip.
If you are writing a trip report, it's best to do this with a clear and insightful mind.
While your thoughts are still fresh, and flowing.
Once you take that benzo any magic afterglow is killed along with it.
Your introspective can change and you may actually regret not letting the trip sail it's course entirely.
Of course, this all really depends on what psychedelic and the amount taken plus your set and setting.
It's all relevant.
No doubt, some type of benzodiazepine used sublingually will be your best and safest option.
Xanax and Etizolam are both solid choices.
They work quickly, and effectively.
I'd keep a small stock of benzo's on hand just for psychedelic exploration.
Remember benzo's are highly addictive and not something you want to mess with for the most part.
Save them for when you need them.
They are a must have in a pinch. Plus they can actually save your life during a stimulant overdose/cardiac episode.
They lower both your heart rate and blood pressure.
Hopefully this helps.

Mirtazapine would be the best bet, it works the opposite way to psychedelics on 5-HT receptors. Taking mirtazapine will end your trip completely.

It is a myth that Benzo's stop trips. They don't stop the trip, they just reduce anxiety a little. The effect is probably more placebo than anything else. We are highly open to positive suggestion in the right way when on psychedelics.
If you feel like it is going bad. Change the set and setting, happy/relaxing meditative music (without words), lights on, fresh air in the house, citrus smells etc. These all make us feel happy. Watch cute animal videos, puppies and loving dogs showing affection etc.
Also force a smile on your face and keep it there. Your physical actions also change our moods, forcing a smile and keeping it there naturally will make you happy. The enforce this with other setting change.

I've had fantastic experiences "stopping" my trips with etizolam. It hits me faster than any benzo I've ever tried and is always great at killing the anxiety on the spot. However, keep in mind that you'll still be tripping as mentioned earlier ITT, it just makes you calm enough to avoid the negative thought loops that lead to bad trips
-
Also force a smile on your face and keep it there.
This is true. I've ended several bad trips simply by forcing myself to smile. Or by trying to find something humourous in my thoughts/surroundings. The purpose of laughter is to relieve anxiety. If you can find something funny, all that anxiety is going to be converted into laughter. The more anxious you were, the more uncontrollable the laughter.
Also, it's just the KNOWLEDGE that I have benzos available that prevents me from having bad trips. I have never had to take them.
I have combined valium with LSD, I found it very pleasant. Good for taking acid at a party or something. It doesn't eliminate the effects of LSD.

There is NO 5-HT2x receptor! And why wud you need a serotonin antagonist during the come down?
-
5-HT2x <- the x means a variable like 5-HT2a, 5-HT2c, etc.
I wasn't considering to take it on the comedown but rather in case I felt too wound up (a precursor sign to serotonin syndrome) to BRING the trip down. Serotonin syndrome is a potentially fatal condition caused by serotonin agonists and where the body's muscles are shivering so much that your temperature can reach unsafe levels and you can go into cardiac arrest. Cyclobenzaprine is a serotonin ANTagonist so I thought that maybe it could be used to reverse the symptoms.
-
Serotonin Syndrome doesn't occur overnight or with a trip.Mostly it happens with MDMA abuse.
-
Also, taking benzo's when its already too late will probably not do you that much good.
They may abort the trip in your mind, but they will not magically flush serotonin buildup in the body at all.
Effectively this means that you could cancel the trip, but still be at the same risk of developing serotonin syndrome regardless .

If flexeril does anything it may ease muscle tension and side effects of vasoconstriction. Maybe.
