Title: Do you really encrypt all your communicaton?
Post by: nameless2 on May 19, 2012, 06:49 pm
Hey, just curious about that. Are you encrypting all the communication? Seems to be a bit too paranoid. I think it should be enough to encrypt your address.

you would also feel better to use this one:

Just decide by asking yourself whether it would cause you a problem if the text of your message got into the hands of the police.

And everyone, please stop talking about privnote. Please just use SR's mail system and PGP. That's the safest way.

if you only encrypt your address then anyone who can intercept your communications will always know when you are placing an order

Better safe than sorry? I mean technically there's no dirt on you if LE can't find who/where you are and they certainly can't without your address. But why wouldn't you just encrypt the entire message, it's not like it causes you any more trouble than encrypting just your address.

I encrypt sensitive information.  By sensitive, I mean all personal information, dates, shipping times, any references to specific instances of illegal activity, or a specific question about an order.

Sometimes I just chit chat, ask a question, or send a compliment/say thanks.  I don't see any need to encrypt that kind of information, although sometimes might drop a vague hint that would only make sense to the vendor.

And I follow the vendor's lead...  There are many who request that only sensitive information be encrypted.

as a rule of thumb, I encrypt anything that I wouldn't feel comfortable having read back to me at trial (if SR were ever compromised)

Encryption protects you and the seller.

I just encrypt only address or, in case, other sensitive infos like a ukash code or so

Short answer, YES. Encrypt everything. IF SR ever goes down and federalolies get the "goods" and start coming over records. It would be in your best interest to have all your communications encrypted.

I always encrypt any sensitive stuff like address and other details. Encrypting everything only makes things difficult for other party to try to decrypt. Not all sellers are computer geeks that manage hundreds of pgp keys. I trust DPR that all that is marked deleted gets deleted.

ANY seller that doesn't want to/can't take the time to learn to, and use pgp doesn't deserve your business. trust someone else to protect your info? really, why would you ever do that?

Hey, just curious about that. Are you encrypting all the communication? Seems to be a bit too paranoid. I think it should be enough to encrypt your address.

When it comes to selling/buying drugs online and the lengths we go to protect ourselves from police.. there's no such thing as too paranoid.

I mean really we have no clue what the drug agencies of the world are doing right now in regards to silk road. They could be collating all our info, deep profiling - certain things we consider safe may later turn out to be compromised. I think we should assume that they are coming for us in every way possible and therefore protect ourselves as much as we can.
