Title: Anyone Use Bitcoin-otc
Post by: Kandi on March 19, 2012, 12:16 am
I've read about this place a lot and read the wiki ( https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin-otc) a few times
But it seems really complicated from that.
Does anyone here use this for trading?

I was just wondering if there was an easier way to learn how to setup an account and use properly.
Is the pgp key I created with Gpg-4win what is used for the web of trust?
Is there an easier explanation than on wiki?

I've been active there for a while. It's basically an informal trading room, it takes a bit to get trusted but once you've established yourself as trustworthy it's one of the easiest ways to get some quick coins for a good price.

Go directly their site bitcoin-otc.com for some more clear explanations of using the bot to register. Might also be a good idea to register the same name on Freenode with NickServ

I followed a video on the wiki, created a key pair & sent to key server mentioned (the one with mit in addy).
How is trust built? By buying and selling oftten?

Do they also not want to know u use SR?

Thanks

I don't mention SR, but that's my choice. I haven't seen folks in the channel talk about it. Up to you, but I would imagine it's frowned upon.

Trust is built by participating and making good transactions. You'll have to find someone who will take a chance on a new person, and that's up to whomever you're dealing with. Some people will absolutely NOT take paypal from new/untrusted folks, some will take a chance with a small amount. Some might be willing to try a newbie for a larger order, but at a high premium, which you may or may not be willing to pay while establishing trust.

Check out #bitcoin-otc-foyer for newbie questions and #gribble for help with the gribble bot.
