Title: Finalizing -- How to make sure you don't do it too soon..?
Post by: curious_eltern on July 29, 2012, 05:55 pm
After you make a purchase and get the "You need to FE if under 10 purchases" message from some of the top vendors, how do you make sure they have already copied your address onto an envelope, notepad, etc?

I mean, if I get a message from someone saying to FE and I do so within 5 minutes of receiving the message, isn't it possible that my address would have disappeared entirely from their screen never to be seen again?

This purchase makes 10 for me, so hopefully won't have to worry again, but just curious how vendors don't lose orders of people like me who are just constantly hitting refresh until they get the PM from the seller.

This is very true, and there is a warning about this specific thing on the order page of a vendor account.
I'm sure it still happens fairly often despite the warning though.

If a vendor confirms your order, the address is gone forever, so if he has not made a copy of it then there is no way to retrieve it without having to contact the buyer to request it again.

A good vendor will make an encrypted copy of your address before asking you to FE.
Wait, actually a good vendor wouldn't ask you to FE in the first place.

Could you send me a link to this warning you have read?

I understand that it sucks to have to FE, but now that I've been through 10 transactions I think being in escrow is 'earned'

I only ordered from top vendors, and did get burned once by Noriega around 4/20, but luckily hit the SR lottery with that purchase that offset that loss.

What do you mean if they "confirm" your order -- after I click Finalise they have to click confirm?

After you place the order, the vendor can decide whether to cancel your order or to accept(ship) it. Marking it as in transit means the vendor accepted(confirmed) your order and you get the option to finalize.
