I have bitcoin downloaded and I do not know how to turn my cash into bitcoins, I heard I can go to walmart and get a money order, then type in the number on some website that sends them to my account, then i send them to my sr wallet? I'm really confused on that and I am ready to make a purchase and buy some pure alpraz powder. If anyone can help I would grately appreciate it...

confusing trying to get btc im still not that quick on it, but you can by from places like mtgox there reliable but slow, there are other i have seen but not tried im sure someone will maybe come here and advise.
Or you can try the listing and search for (i think) name is btc4 cash something like that with a good track record which i think im gonna use next as it seems like very fast service and rates seem reasonable.

1. Using TOR, go to bitinstant.com and choose to transfer to a bitcoin address
2. Copy and paste your Silk Road account address (accessed by clicking "account" on Silk Road and then there a section that says something like "click here to deposit")
3. Make up a fake name, address and phone number which you will give to bitinstant.com and also fill out on one of the blue MoneyGram ExpressPayment slips. Follow the instructions provided by bitinstant.com (you have to download a .pdf at the end of the process). Walmart will not ask to see your ID - they will only ask you to sign a receipt.
This worked for me. It is a simple transfer from Point A to Point B. Many here recommend that you complicate this process by sending the money first from bitinstant.com to a service like coinapult.com and then to your SR account for additional security. I'll try that next time.

i take it your from America, if so intersango.com is your best bet. may take a few days to verify an account but bitcoins are usually deposited in a few hour or it did when i used it from Britain just normal browser, just follow the instructions its pretty straight forward.

intersango site is terrible to begin with. When some pages stopped responding (giving HTTP error messages) I realized I don't want to trust this place.

I see no opportunity for anybody to find you from your 2-point 1,2,3 procedure. Why would you want to add complication, delays, and (probably) fees by involving another party like coinapult.com? Yes, another link is needed for anonymity if you are somehow linked to the purchase, but your real identity has never touched your 2-point acquisition. KISS
If somebody can tell me how LE or anybody else could track the purchaser of the 2-point acquisition above, please educate me.

I just posted this in another thread, I think it's easy and quick.....
I use an online BT wallet with Blockchain. You can deposit BTC's into it via moneygram, moneygram is at any Walmart and CVS, among others but seems like everyone is relatively close to either one. Then move your BTC's from blockchain to The Road. With this method, you can be funded in an afternoon, it's really quick. I've done it a bunch of times without a hitch. I'm in the good ole U.S of A, I don't know if it would be any different if you live outside the US. Good Luck!

Thanks for the input.
Your online wallet is accessed only from TOR without anything identifying you? Could you specify the service?
If you wanted to use your btc's only for SR purchases, I don't see an advantage to interposing a btc wallet. Why not just use moneygram to deposit into your SR btc addr directly? In that case, it looks like your procedure boils down to the same thing as Acedia suggested but using moneygram instead of bitinstant.
I see nothing ont he MoneyGram web site about btc (site has no search feature that I can find!), and I like it that bitinstant lets you plan it all out ahead of time and print out your form before you head to the brick&mortar. On the other hand, I don't know what the real end-to-end time is when bitinstant is used and I really like what you say about moneygram speed.

Looks to me, based on their website, that moneygram has no support for btc whatsoever. I think this is why people in the US use bitinstant. Bitinstant uses Moneygram to get your funds and then purchases and routes btc for you. If your goal is to get btc into your SR account, there's no need to involve any other agent or wallet (other than your SR wallet, of course). Adding more services and parties to the process reduces the anonymity. The more crumbs you leave, the easier you make it for somebody to track you.

Create a blockchain wallet, then while your on your blockchain wallet page, hit the deposit cash link. It will walk you thru the process, which, utilizes bitinstant for the deposit. Again, it will walk you thru it. .Moneygram doesn't do bitcoiuns per say, it is just used to send money, from their point of view, your just paying bill.
Here's how it works
1- create a wallet on blockchain, it's anonymous
2- hit the cash deposit link (this must be done with your wallet page open)
3- it will walk you thru the process and give you all the info you need to take to a moneygram outlet
4- at moneygram, you will send your $$$ to an intermediate company, given to you by blockchain, I wont mention the name here but to moneygram it looks like your paying a bill...(bitinstant will give you a receiver code for the intermediate co, this code ID's that company for moneygram so they know who to send it to)
4- this intermediate company will do the rest and your dollars will magically appear in your blockchain wallet as bitcoins
5- transfer to your SR wallet (it can take a few hours for this transfer to go thru, don't worry , it works)
The reason for the middle wallet is security, and, I'm not sure you can deposit right into the SR wallet, unless you trust one of the SR bitcoin vendors to do it but that is done outside the escrow system and it's easy for them to burn you, and, they can sometimes take lot longer than most people would like.
I hope that all made sense.

bitsintant really sucks. you should look into bueskytraders, bitcopia or another bank cash deposit method. way less steps and much more convenient

I can imagine that competing services could have a lower fee rate, but I disagree that these other services can be more convenient. You print out a PDF form at bitinstant.com then you go to your choice of several local stores like 7-11 or Walmart and pay them the cash. The money is in your SR wallet by the time you get home. What sucks about that? I tried funding using other services to fund from a regular account-- now that requires care not to leave tracks, takes about 10 x the effort, and "sucks".

Bit Instant...why do some places ask for id and others seem not to?

Bitcopia charges about $20 a coin. and its down :/

Bit Instant...why do some places ask for id and others seem not to?
I know that they do not ask at my place, and based on the documented procedure at bitinstant.com and other people reporting in this forum, that is normal (i.e. normal that they do not ask for an ID). If you live near civilization you will have at least a dozen places to choose within a half hour drive, so if they ask for an ID at one place, say you forgot your ID and try a different store. You don't have to worry about losing your investment because you can just throw away the form if you want to. They don't know who you are and they don't have any money of yours until you hand it to them.

I never understood the reason behind being a cunt about an id but what can you do right?

The reason I suggest an intermediate wallet between your moneygram transaction and SR is SOMETIMES the moneygram people ask for an ID. There is no rhyme or reason to when that happens. I've used both walmart and cvs and been ID'd at both.....or, not ID'd at both. So, do the bitinstant thing in your name, go to a first anonymous wallet and then to an SR wallet, that way if they ask for ID it won't be an issue. Thats how I do it and it adds zero fees and hardly any time.

Thanks people. I went to walmart today and i got the blue moneygram packet but then they started asking questions about the pay a bill thing, and also asks for the companys name and how much of the bill I wanted to pay. So i pretty much told them that I am trying to send someone some money using a online thing with bitcoins. Then they didnt understand what i was talking about (of ourse not) ............................So can someone please show and tell me what to say, what moneygram copy i need or if I can just get a money orderl i really want to add some bitcoins on here and
i have been trying so hardl
someone please help. THANKS
-
I don't think you actually NEED to tell them anything. If you have to just tell them to mind their own business.

This is what bitinstant.com does for you. You go to the bitinstant site where they print you out a Moneygram form that will be all filled out with the Bitcoin-specific and recipient-party stuff all done. You hand that to them at Walmart and they have you have fill in your fake name/addr/signature (matching those you filled out online) into some other short Moneygram form. They don't have to know a thing about Bitcoins or Tor. They're no more likely to ask for your ID than if you did it directly through Moneygram and they have never asked me for an ID.
Note: When they ask for email addr at bitinstant.com, that is strictly to send you notifications and it works fine if you enter a false addr. Just check for the funds in your SR account.... assuming that SR happens to be up.
