Title: Suggestion to improve reviews and vendor reliability
Post by: Sname on July 24, 2012, 11:38 pm
I'm wondering if there could be an addition to the review section on listings and vendors wherein each review can also have the buyer's number of transactions stated next to it. Reading a review with the reviewer's number of transactions, or perhaps just number of months they have been a member, will add to legitimacy of the vendor. This way, when I see a listing or vendor with just a few reviews, I can see that each review is from a long time buyer. In my mind this will reduce the ease with which vendor's start various buyer accounts and post reviews of their own product through 0 bitcoin custom listings.

So for instance, it might look like this:

Recent feedback
buyer                 rating   feedback                                                                           freshness           item
5 transactions    5 of 5   Arrived very quickly. Product good.                           39 minutes   item
10 transactions  5 of 5   Arrived very quickly. Product exactly as described.   39 minutes   item
1 transactions    5 of 5   Quick ship, well disguised. Haven't tried yet.                   18 hours           item
9 transactions    5 of 5   Arrived in record time, just as advertised                   23 hours       item

agreed, we need more transparency with the review system, right now i have no idea if the vendor is reviewing themself or what.

any feedback that comes from lottery and e-books   is basically bullshit and should be banned or disallowed

a scammer can build up great feedback rapidly selling invisible items and then move onto more expensive items like cocaine and weed

silk road should stamp on all this crap because its just an illusion  to get higher feedback numbers + ranking

all sales under 1 BTC or even 0.5 BTC  should be probably disallowed from feedback also because its allows cheap manipulation
and other vendors can buy your cheapest  products just to hurt you if your doing more sales than they are

I agree that the lotto and cheap item listings are building a deceptive element to a vendor's reviews. I have seen other suggestions to have an option for vendor's to rank or rate buyers. Perhaps this buyer rate could be displayed next to someone's review. This rate could be based on vendor input, number of transactions, length of time as a member, ratio of successful transactions and refund rate. As it stands now, the reviews are way polar for most listings and it's hard to tell which are from buyers whose word means anything. The forums are the only place to gain valuable feedback, which hurts startup vendors and encourages a few top vendors to get too much business to keep up with. I think the best way for this site to operate is to have a lot of moderately patronized vendors that are in direct competition and don't get too big.
