Title: Stroke Victim - Recommended Cannabis Strains?
Post by: JungleRemedy on June 08, 2012, 12:08 pm
I'm a novice when it comes to the various strains of Cannabis and their therapeutic qualities, so I'm reaching out for some recommendations.

My mother was a victim of a stroke about 15 years ago and experiences painful muscle spasms and clenching of her left foot, toes, left hand, and fingers.
What strain(s) of Cannabis might help alleviate these issues?

Thanks for any advice you guys could give.

Any indica dominant strain will help  ;) wish you the best of luck!

Don't be overly concerned with the exact strain. You may try something high in CDB compared to THC to see if that makes a difference in the balance between alleviating symptoms and getting high (assuming the latter is not desirable).

Note that virtually all research done on cannabis and stroke is on preventing neural damage - i.e. using cannabis or analogues -before- suffering the stroke. There have been several very promising results in that area, but none that demonstrated that cannabis can be helpful if you take it (long) after suffering from a stroke.

As far as muscle spasms go i doubt cannabis would be the treatment of choice though. There are much more specific muscle relaxants available on prescription, resulting in a far more effective treatment regime. There is nothing keeping you from combining that with cannabis, but there is plenty of reason to think cannabis (of any strain) alone will not be a very effective treatment.
