I just came across this document and thought it might be good for some beginners who are just starting to learn how to use encryption programs. It's also good reference for those who are already familiar with encryption programs.
Here is the page: https://cryptoparty.org/wiki/CryptoPartyHandbook
This 392 page, Creative Commons licensed handbook is designed to help those with no prior experience to protect their basic human right to Privacy in networked, digital domains. By covering a broad array of topics and use contexts it is written to help anyone wishing to understand and then quickly mitigate many kinds of vulnerability using free, open-source tools. Most importantly however this handbook is intended as a reference for use during Crypto Parties.

first contact over a certain blog and then shortly via hushmail?

Has anyone attended one of these cryptoparties yet? I'm curious on the turnout and productiveness of going to one.

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. But here's a tweet from Jacob Applebaum one of the main tor dev's an hour or so ago:

"The #CryptoParty handbook is really unimpressive and fraught with peril. A good idea and a nice effort but ultimately quite dangerous."

" AvoidGmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and other big commercial platforms with a history of turning over their users and go for an specialized service like Hushmail(https://www.hushmail.com/)"
Maybe "How to survive in jail" is the next handbook in CryptoParty series.
