hey all, the package i'm waiting on was shipped late on thursday, so i'm told, but the DCN i received still doesn't exist in the usps track and confirm system, and today is monday.
Now i realize this isnt a TRACKING number, but i've never had one just...not appear. theres always been at least and "acceptance" scan of the parcel. I'm kinda freaking out...and am very tired of seeing:
Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office.

This is not uncommon with DCN's.
Only thing they have to do with a DCN is scan it once it delivers. Anything else is gravy and likely wont continue as cuts to services pick up.

yea, thats about the answer i was expecting, it just puts me on edge...i'm very used to having constant updates.

A vendor pm'd me recently regarding a DCN and said that lately they didn't seem to be scanned at "origin sort", so this seems to confirm what you're experiencing. As alcapone pointed out, the only requirement is that they be scanned at delivery- anything else along the way is due to the effort of a conscientious postal employee, but not a requirement.

I have noticed even the tracked services of USPS has been getting lax lately ... ALOT of missed scans that I would normally see on familiar routes.

Better to just ignore DCN in general, the package will either arrive or it won't, checking a DCN on a package filled with illegal shit makes the "I have no idea where this package came from, I wasn't even expecting anything" excuse unusable if shit were to go down.

I totally agree, but many people don't seem to feel that there's any harm in it... And at the same time admonishing to not check through Tor since that may cause the package to get flagged as suspicious.
Since checking through Tor might flag a package...
And checking in the clear reveals your IP address, which is bad news if that package is flagged for some OTHER reason you know nothing about...
What's the best strategy? Public wi-fi? I just don't need to know that badly. I know approximately WHEN the thing should arrive- what I really care about though, is it NOT arriving. The vendor can confirm that through the DCN.
