I have not been posting in the forums, but I am a veteran on SR. It seems like many vendors require (new) buyers to finalize early because many buyers do not finalize their orders in a reasonable amount of time. When buyers do not finalize it takes 17 days for the order to auto-finalize which ties up money that the vendor may need to re-up or otherwise finance their operation. My idea is that the vendor should be given the option to "request finalization" after a period of time (5 days) after the order is marked "in transit." The vendor knows if the product should have arrived based on experience and/or tracking information. This "request finalization" option would send a message to the buyer requesting them to either finalize the transaction in or extend the escrow. If the buyer does not respond, the transaction will finalize automatically. After a set number or extensions, the transaction would automatically go into mediation. This would eliminate the problem with negligent buyers without putting anyone in any danger of being ripped off.

I'm pretty sure the main reason why sellers request new buyers to FE isn't because "many buyers do not finalize their orders in a reasonable amount of time"
But yeah we definitely need an option to extend escrow, that's an excellent idea.

I also think that a friendly reminder is sometimes needed. Its easy to lose track of things sometimes.
