Title: Insane Clown Posse suing the FBI
Post by: Joey Terrifying on August 12, 2012, 08:46 pm
love em or hate em, this move shows big fuckin balls.  this is about more than creepy clowny hip hop, this is about freedom of speech, freedom of choice, and not bending over to receive the Man's cock because he's telling you to.

Every year, the FBI releases its National Gang Threat Assessment List, which examines "emerging gang trends and threats posed by criminal gangs and communities throughout the United States." In 2011, Juggalos were added to the list. You already know about Juggalos, those zany, slap-happy, face-painted faygo-swillers who have made the Insane Clown Posse their religion. Well, now they're all members of a criminal gang, and Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope from ICP are gang leaders.

Well, ICP is about to start fighting back, and they're reacting by suing the FBI. Let me say that again and make it clearer. Insane Clown Posse is suing the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Last night, I was chilling with Joseph Bruce, AKA Violent J of ICP, in his bus at the 13th annual Gathering Of The Juggalos (I'm so happy I get to write that—thanks, VICE!). He told me that "ICP is going to do something huge for our fans, and the world. We're suing the FBI to be taken off their list. They're trying to kill our band, and we have to fight back."

In the weeks leading up to this year's Gathering of the Juggalos, ICP's attorneys warned that "there's no telling what's gonna happen at the Gathering this year. This is the first time we had the festival now that we're a 'gang.' According to the FBI, we're all at a gang rally, and our merchandise is gang apparel."

Although currently only considered a gang in four states, law enforcement in 21 states have identified and logged criminal Juggalo subsets. In those states, if an ICP fan is on probation, and he or she wears an ICP hat to a parole meeting, that's a violation of probation for wearing gang apparel.

"Let's get this straight," he continued, "a Juggalo is not a gang member. Consider a Juggalo that, 15 years ago, got a hatchet man tattoo or something. Now they've got a family, they're working in real estate or something, and they're driving home and get a speeding ticket. Next thing you know, he's in the gang file, and that will be taken into consideration in any trial. Suddenly, it ain't just somebody who fucked up, it's a gang member who fucked up, and they're getting a heavier sentence."

Violent J explained how the FBI's ruling has affected ICP's business in a major way: "When we made that list, stores like Hot Topic stopped carrying our shit because they don't want to be selling gang apparel."

"This lawsuit isn't just for the fans. It's also for the good people who work at Psychopathic Records. There are 30 employees. Some of these people started off when we were 18 years old, but now some of them have been working here for 20 years. That's their career now. They have kids, and wives, and husbands. Next thing you know, they're working for a gang."

Props to ICP. I've never met a "juggalo" but I do know they're more like a family. I have a friend who told me that juggalos and the PLUR scene have a lot of parallels.

I am enjoying it. Cant believe the FBI tagged them as a gang.

Can't say that I like them, but kudos to ICP for filing this suit. It's pretty laughable that juggalo clothes from hot topic are now considered "gang apparel" by some.

I used to like ICP when I was younger but they're just so stupid, trashy and awful from a modern perspective that I wouldn't care if they crashed a plane into a gathering of the juggalos. Most juggalos are fat or trashy wiggers. Their music is so blatantly retarded nowadays that I want to kick them in the balls.

They're pretty much a gang. I agree with the FBI.

"Fuckin' magnets how do they work?"

 :o
How did you used to like them, that's the real question here lol. I think what they're doing is right, yeah I don't like their audience but their audience shouldn't be considered gang members for liking trashy music. That's like making everyone that listens to rappers gang members, I just don't see it being right.

They hold a gathering where everyone wears baggy clothes and drinks cheap soda and smokes weed and whatever. Look at the apparel of the average juggalo and tell me they are gangbangers. I know a handful of juggalos and they are easily the stupidest people I know and get arrested a couple times every year or so.

Then they become 20 or 30 somethings, realize they have a dumb hatchetman tattoo and that they like terrible clown rap. If they don't then they become old people who like clown rap.

you've never been to a festival?

alright, you're a gang member.

Obviously fucking ridiculous and the f's are all looking like assholes! SHIT! They can't fuckin figure out what the fuck to do with the rest of their lives when people know how to govern themselves!

You know the real funny thing with the whole joke of the group and weak type of musical material (some might say), they did actually make a super sappy "spiritually inclined" kind of video where they were all rhyming about some real fuckin gay universal shit! It was so laughable but in a really really good way because it was funny as hell but true and resonating. I remember my homie showing it to me and we were laughing because of it being somewhat on point and not what you ever expected from those quack psychos! Or so they acted. Funny as hell because it was fuckin icp!

haha yeah.  well, they've gotten a little soft in their later years and are more direct about their message, but if you listen closely you'll notice that pretty much their entire discography is all about magic/spirituality/shamanism/god/whatever.  they're quite clever to hide the message behind a front of stupidity and silliness.

i have never heard an ICP song that had a subliminal message pertaining to spiritual belief or shamanistic beliefs. x.x

hmmm...this is a tough one to explain.

First, let me say that I am not really a juggalo.  I am just a man who studies psychedelics and the occult/shamanism.  i've never been to a show, don't own any of their cd's or merch, and i don't like any of the other artists on psychopathic records.  I only started listening to them closely a couple years ago...i think it was when the song miracles came out and there were so many people making comments like what JoeyGPesci007 is saying in this thread.  well, i figured that if any music group and subculture was pissing people off to that extent, then there must be something great about them :)

So, what these guys are doing is pulling off some the oldest shamanic tricks in the book.  Shamans for thousands of years have painted their faces scary or made scary masks for telling weird stories that try to explain the nature of life and reality to muggles.  (If you want an explanation of why shamans paint their faces i will tell you, but this post is gonna be long enough as it is.)  the ICP does this for the muggles of middle america using old americana themes like carnivals, tv shows, soda, etc. in their work because these are symbols which they and their audience identify with.  if you showed them mandalas or shipipo cloths, it would mean nothing to the average scrub living in iowa.  You aren't going to hear in one song them saying explicitly what they're message is, its more of an over arching theme throughout their discography that comes together like pieces of a puzzle.

Another reason i say its magic is that the whole idea of the dark carnival came to Violent J in a dream which he held onto and turned it into reality.  bringing your dreams into the waking realm is one of the highest forms of magic.  again, i will explain this if you don't understand but i want to remain on topic here.

It seems to me that their core principle that they are trying to convey is Karma.  that in this life or beyond there is a reckoning for all the evil and wicked things you've cast into the world, and in their telling of this classic story, the reckoning comes in the form of a dark carnival.  instead of the boring tales of hell from old religions they have a lot of fun with it and make "rides" or "shows" that deliver your punishment.  there's rides that torture you in all these terrible ways, or there's a gameshow where you can win prizes or a grotesque death....stuff like that.

each of the albums is named for a deity that is just another expression of this same message.  the ringmaster leads the carnival, the riddle box is a thing where you turn the crank and it decides your fate, the jeckel brothers juggle balls of fire that represent your sins....stuff like that.

of course, not every song focuses squarely on this.  theres a lot of just silly jokes or twisted funny stories; it is, after all, entertainment.  but they're a really positive group, in my opinion.  they entertain but at the same time they try to push a positive message of doing unto others as you would have done unto you.

TLDR:  trust me, what ICP does is real deal modern shamanism

FUCKING MAGNETS

Sorry, had to say that. Even if they are honest about these spiritual messages, it still doesn't make their music good. Sure, they had some nice beats, especially in their older stuff (CD with the wraith thing on it), but their vocals and lyrics are just downright fucking retarded. They make today's underground rappers--who think they are leading a revolution against the "NWO" because they watch conspiracy shows on the History Channel--sound like gangsta rapping Carl Sagans. I'm surprised the FCC didn't ban their shit after incorrectly assuming it was marketed to 4 year olds.

It's a shame these "scrubs" don't realize that taking the juggalo scene too seriously makes them look retarded. If they do realize how stupid it makes them look and continue buying into this stuff, that's just sad. No one cares if you dress up like a clown and go fuck around at an ICP festival, just don't bring that shit into the public scene and expect people to tolerate it. 29 year olds running around a shopping mall screaming, while dressed like clowns of course, are the ones who make their music look bad.

They aren't the first group to hide messages in their songs, but as far as I know, they are one of the only ones to preach all this enlightened spiritual shit while at the same time encouraging people to be low class and stupid. It's not all about intelligence, but shouldn't they want their fans to improve themselves versus acting out until they eventually reach a certain age and realize all the time they wasted? They perpetuate the stereotype that mid-westerners are simple minded hicks. But hey, if acting your stereotype truly helps certain people connect with the universe at large, who am I to judge? It's possible that they act moronic by day and meditate into the 5th dimension at night, just to show us all how acting like an asshole doesn't make someone... i dunno, i ran out of ideas here.

That sounds really awesome and I have a lot more respect for them now. Personally, I just don't like how their music sounds. I get a lot of the same message from Shpongle and other artists. Not to mention life... it is everywhere. But of course it's awesome in the form of music and parties.

I love ICP.  Always have, always will.  It's Twiztid I can't stand...

And the whole thing about them being a gang...  They're a family.  It's a following, like other bands and record companies have.  To call a Juggalo a gangmember is like saying anyone who follows Skrillex and wears raver clothes is a gang member or metal fans are gang members for wearing a Metallica shirt.  No matter if you like ICP or hate them, the FBI has no right to label them as a gang.

^^This.

I may not like their music very much and I think SOME juggalos behave like idiots public and shouldn't be surprised to be mocked...But, I still believe in their right to listen to whatever they want and go out to concerts and have fun. The majority of them are harmless, and those that aren't can be dealt individually. The feds are stooping even lower than ICP lyrics by adding fans of a music group to their list of gangs. Still, I don't think it's as serious as they say it is, and TBH, this is awesome publicity for them. Thanks to the FBI, ICP is now the most dangerous band in America. Neo Nazis better watch out!

Wow... That is far from the ICP I remember. I remember when they wore dark looking FUBU clothes and rapped about, smoking weed, killing cops, and screwing trailer trash whores. Now it seems like they are trying out for a children's educational video for a youth Christian camp.

Piggy Pie aint got nothing to do with it right?   Grateful Dead was a motorcycle gang right?
Does that make all deadheads motorcycle gang members?     I just don't get it.

I hope the ICP kick some ass take names and maybe get started on some justUS.

Piggy Pie is pretty violent and so are many other songs.  Someone whacked on china knows what, might be influenced to do some Hatcheting of their own.

I scene em in concert?,    High Fructose Corn Syrup contains Mercury and they spray it on their fans.  Maybe the FBI could measure how much mercury is in the HFCS being sprayed at ICP shows, that would be interesting.  I aint liberal though and id rather not pay for that study myself.     I didn't build my brain the State did.

My apologies to Juggalos. These are assumptions and first hand experience. Tell me that that room full of juggalos is not a gang if everyone is dressed alike and does a bunch of drugs and crimes.

Although not a street gang in the sense of broad organization. The quote above me makes a valid point. I live near a LOT of these fucks. And I'll be damned if 9/10 fights I have been in involved on (or more) of them. They're criminalistic assholes who think they're rebels and hard asses until you kick their teeth in. Gah! I hate these people. More so because they dont fight fair than anything else.

This forum is a gang.  some of us using drugs hanging out yacking it up.    this gigantic apartment complex called silkroad forums.
Gud Times!!!!

I dont really care for the ICP.  KMK are sorta hacks but they are cool enough to make it.  The ICP... sheesh... dude come on... really.  Eminem wipes them all over the pavement.  AT least ICP aint sold out.  Ozzy tried to buy them out, Ozzie's road tour needed the younger generation, They tried like hell to buy the dark carnival.  I give ICP credit for that.  and They are doing allright.  a lot of albums.   I dont really care for much ICP.  a track once in a while for a laugh or a good sing along but I aint really ya know that down with the clown.    Fun to sing though.

If there was a gang that called themselves The Grateful Dead it didn't have anything to do with the actual band. They might of been fans or something. A lot of the Motorcycle Gangs were into the hippie movement back then or hired to do security for shows, but they weren't part of the hippies do to their violence everyone just feared them, so nobody said anything. Hippies were mainly college kids, dropouts, draft dodgers, and war vets who got high and hated the government.
