Title: WTF is going on?
Post by: BuddhaNature on June 07, 2012, 03:32 am
I'm missing orders and missing cash. My account looks like it did earlier today.

What gives?

Seems to have been some form of rollback. I had a couple orders become unfinalized.

This kind of thing used to be fairly common, almost expected even. Usually it's really poorly managed too, admin leaves us out of the loop until everyone has assumed the worst, then everything is stable again for awhile. Just be patient and have faith, they've always sorted out any problems, even missing bitcoins and such (personal experience with that one, pretty unnerving I know...).

Lately this place has been running so seamlessly that it's easy to stop appreciating how awesome of a job admin pulls off running the biggest centralized illegal drug market in the world :)

*BTW this is why I HIGHLY recommend setting up autowithdrawal if you're a vendor...your coins aren't out of reach if the site tanks.

What would have happened to transactions that were finalized and withdrawn in between the backup time and the reset time? How does SR get those coins back?

Yep...I got rolled back about 7 hours too. All is in order though.

My time and date are correct, but my account, too, looks like it did earlier today.

Great question. I assume they take the coins back from the accounts that still reflect the coins pre-withdrawal after doing some bookkeeping. Of course that's assuming they haven't been withdrawn a second time. If so they'd have to eat the loss.

transactions which been finalized and withdrawn, still in escrow. another question is that perhaps, if somebody deposited btc during this period it is gone now.

I created my account (and deposited a few bitcoins) a couple of hours ago, and now I can't log in - at all.

This is very serious. It's like the entire site got rolled back to a previous state or something...

Why are people saying this is so serious? Isn't it just a site glitch? lol

OK I'm new here but this has really shattered my confidence. I saw a listing that was just plain wrong. It took the text from one vendor, put another vendors name and link, and took a photo from a third offer. I know because I had looked at and read all the related offers last night. How will we know it is safe to deposit BTC or place orders? Shit!

I have a screen shot (stored on my encrypted drive) of the messed up offer if anyone wants to see it. It is wrong, wrong, wrong!

I did notice a couple of days ago that the pictures didn't match the titles on the front page.  I didn't go as far into it and read the descriptions too, but things were definitely off.

Pictures not matching the listing on the front page happens randomly .. this is not new , at least I've seen this every day for the past ~6 weeks.
Probably every 20th time I load the main page the pictures are off. Nothing serious I guess.

All the other "weird" things happening are obviously due to a rollback of the servers. I mean this sucks and it got me a lot of extra work but that's it .. don't really think the site is falling apart or anything. Would be nice to get some official input on this though..

Calm down people, you'll get your money back.

It's just a glitch. But no doubt.. Mister Dank will be here any second to tell us how its a conspiracy and DPR is stealing $300 despite having a turnover in the millions.

I just withdrew 450 BTC to my BTC wallet about half an hour ago and transaction is still not even showing up in my BTC wallet .. strange.

Might be a good idea to message vendors to confirm the listing before you place an order since some stealth listings are showing up as normal listings.

I'll confirm that resolution proposals have been rolled back as well.

This most likely is why they rolled back. Or at least, a very good reason for such.

I'm new to SR, and this isn't making me feel better about it.

Then leave.
SR isn't perfect. It has glitches and scammers just as every other drug spot on the web or off. Nobody is here to try to make you feel better about SR. The admin and support here work their asses off to provide this service and we should be grateful.

I'm new on SR and just got my second order, which is pretty small in terms of how much it's worth. With all the problems they are having, should I even finalize this order right now? I was kind of  thinking it might just add to the problems they're already having and that maybe I should just wait for some kind of announcement before finalizing.

Seems like the issues everyone has been experiencing are from transactions shortly before the rollback?

So would it be safe (moving forward) for people to continue doing things like depositing BTC into their accounts?

Or should I just wait until things have been smoothed out by the admins?

Thanks.

Last time I think it took a day or two to fix it all.
Just record the details, and send to SR admin.
I'm sure they are busy :-\

+1 Good call.  Sounds from what everyone is saying you should wait, that's nice of you to have the vendor in mind and take the time to consider your options.  Maybe  shoot them a PM just to let to them know you received, and that you've heard of people having finalization issues due to the rollback, you could link them to this thread...I'm sure they would appreciate it whatever their preference on finalize now vs.  finalize in a day or two when the wrinkles are smoothed out.
Peace

And I second GermanQ's take on the picture issue.  If that sketches you out be ready for pain and fold up a nice big Reynolds Brand Tinfoil Hat (whomever was all geeked about the pictures) .  haha....for real tho, it happens all the time, and they probably don't announce that the site is going down because withholding that from this forum (where LE could potentially read about and know the site would be more vulnerable) is a good idea, for all of us alike.  Now I don't know how exactly LE could benefit from such information but my gut call is that they could/would and if not, it still makes sense to be in the practice of keeping sensitive information like that off of the public forum.

When I started here I created a buyers account and separate vendors account, transferring the 32 bitcoins from my buyers account to the new 1 to make it a vendors account.  i ended up getting locked out of the one with the coin (vendors account).  It took a few days but DPR himself straightened it out and apologized.  The SR admin/mods  (especially L1m) are very fucking cool and very decent so for all those who are saying you should pull your coin out and that SR has issues....go fly a kite....

Clearnet sites run by multimillion $ corps.  shut down for maintenance  weekly/monthly.  Highly doubt DPR has close to the kind of assets they do, plus he has to spend a boat-load of what he makes to keep his Pirate Ship, our Silk Road....hole free so to speak....That means extra hidden servers, retainers for lawyers....scriptwriters/private sec analysts....etc....Not half as easy as running a site like Ebay that's in the open....and even that is obviously no easy feat to pull off.

I finalized anyways because I wasn't sure what to do. I'll keep that advice in mind encase this happens again. Thanks. Everything seemed the same as my first transaction so maybe it's somewhat worked out now.

I lost 65 coins yesterday in this confusion, and I've done some research. This is what I've learned.

*******************************************
!!!!!!!! NOOBS PLEASE READ THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!
*******************************************

1. This sort of thing seems to have happened before, and it always seems to work out

2. The people around here who are experienced and smart don't seem to be too worried, just inconvenience

The point I'm getting at here is don't panic yet. I understand a certain degree of paranoia is important in this industry, but as someone who has been around this game for a while, let me tell you this: it's almost never as bad as you think it is.

Just relax and stay calm until we hear from the admins. It's most likely a technical issue, and I'm sure they are very hard at work getting it fixed for us.

Please don't listen to hypemonger idiots like "goblin". He just seems to be thriving on drama.

That's cool, cant see any way you could go wrong do either one .  I always take care of my nice, thoughtful customers with extras and show appreciation for their diligence and time, keep building that rep friend.

I'm curious if anyone has received their missing deposits yet?

I made a LARGE deposit yesterday and thanks to this mess it's out there in cyber-limbo while the admins sort this out.

Obviously knowing other people have begun to receive their missing coins would indicate that it's simply a waiting game and that they will get around to me soon enough.

Nobody makes big deposits just for fun and I was really hoping to place a couple of orders and to get them shipped in time for something.

Any additional info would be helpful. I'm trying to stay optimistic but since the SR support hasn't responded to my PM and I can't find much info on the forums, I can't help but to be stressed out.
