Title: Question about P.O. Boxes
Post by: Toulouse on October 26, 2012, 01:07 am
I'm thinking about getting a PO box.

Should I use one of those "Pack-It" type stores that have PO boxes or should I use the actual Post Office?

Your thoughts please.

Thanks!    :)

That's up to you. It depends on your circumstances and what you need.

This, and it doesn't make much of a difference when its under your real name.

Why do some vendors not ship to PO boxes?

You have to show official ID to get either kind of mail box--the ones at the post office as well as the ones at Mail Box USA type-places. Before 9/11, it was way easier to get those without state-issued ID, but now it's the same requirements. So if that's the reason you want to go non-USPS, it doesn't matter. You'll still have to use your real name.

Years ago I had issue with what I believe was mail theft at a mom and pop mailbox store.  My advice would be to pick a busier urban/suburban USPS post office.  Lots of volume and stuff to get done and not as much small town gossip and idle time.
