Post by: bangbang277654 on July 18, 2013, 04:19 am
today i bought a prepaid mastercard hoping to buy bitcoins with it to put in my SR wallet.  ive been researching safe sites, and im realizing that buying bitcoins with a credit/debit card is somewhat complicated. im trying to be very careful not to get ripped off, so does anybody have suggestions for sites that are best for buying bitcoins with a debit card? thank you

Little idea I had the other month - Ebay... As long as you've got a verified paypal account and a good ebay rep you could message the bitcoin sellers and you'll hopefully be able to find someone willing to do an immediate transfer.

In all honesty I've never done it because I don't have paypal, and I haven't bought btc for ages, but it should work... theoretically, :) AB.

the problem with ebay is trust on both ends. Buyer could claim didn't receive and ask for refund. And even with gift cards/no returns option seller might not even send, and you won't be able to do anything not even damage the feedback of the seller.

yea i dont think i'd really trust ebay too much. i think i'll probably just wait the 2 days until the other website starts accepting credit cards

A business accepting credit cards as payment is very risky. While bitcoin transactions are final, credit card transactions can be disputed and reversed. This means a scamming buyer could pay with a CC, get BTC, and report to his card issuer that it was a fraudulent purchase. The card issuer would then take the money back from the business. This leaves the business out BTC and payment.

Good luck.

Hello, thanks for your interest!

BoA is normally faster! As I can verify the deposit on the spot, & then immediately send the coins!

Doesn't VirWox do cc purchases? I'd check it out before you take this for truth, but I remember seeing a PayPal and a Visa option. Only issue is that the fees are ridiculous! Around 12% if I remember correctly...plus that weird work-around with that Second Life currency.

Virwox might offer this service but I think you have to get some shit verified first if I remember correctly!

I did not have to get anything verified but you have to wait up to 48 hours on your first two transactions from Second Life currency to BTC...you do have to provide a name for the bank account you transfer from though if you do not use PayPal/UKash etc.

If White 0ut can help you out, I'd go with him as he's a pretty well-established and trusted dude on the forums here and will be able to help you out minus the fees + most likely not such a long wait!

If you still want help with VirWox I can prob run you through really quick, just shoot me a message.

And I think this is my 50th post...sweet!

cc  with btc will never happen, if it does your looking at a 15% tax minimum ontop the current mtgox price.

I use coinbase.com.  Dunno if it takes prepaid mastercards or the like - I just linked it straight to my bank account and verified it and everything.

Then, for anonymity, I wash my coins in the bitcoin fog.  This is like swapping the bills in your wallet for someone else's bills so you get ones with fresh serial numbers.  And it has other perks, like spreading the transaction back to you over a 6-hour time window in a series of small deposits that add up to your total.  Bitcoin fog is here:
