Post by: Sixes on April 25, 2013, 01:13 pm
Hi All,

Anyone use Wickr?

How secure is this as a form of text communication?

Cheers

Though I can't link any references, I'm led to believe that as far as these encrypted chat apps go, it's one of the most secure, others to keep an eye on would be Threema, SilentCircle and anything from the Guardian Project and I'd avoid these popluar ones - IM+, Viber & WhatsApp.

Sorry for the rushed message, I'm heading out. But I hope this helps!

i use it and i love it. they clam to use nsa grade encryption and push app updates  weekly. can send photos , videos , text to account names and set up chat rooms. communications automatically expire . this used with a remote wiping would allow for pretty safe communication. But the DEA still cant crack i message with apple helping them .

Yeah, you think so?  Maybe not the DEA but what about the FBI, CIA, DHS and, of course, the granddaddy of them all-the NSA.  Don't count on anything as secure on wireless networks.  Or wired phones either.  I wouldn't trust it with my life.

I've been a huge proponent of Wickr and have made all of my people make the switch.  I still get a lot of doubters like the ones in the thread.  But after reading this article, all of those fears have been put to rest.

A few days later it was reported that unfortunately those allegations are false.

Sorta unrelated, but I read something about apple willingly decrypting your confiscated phone if le agencies ask them to. They have like a six week waiting list..
