When an item is sent into the US from another country, does it always go through customs? Let's take Canada for example - when orders have come through, I've never seen "Item has been sent to customs in the destination country" on a tracking number before. All other orders have just said International item has arrived in a forign country" then "Item has been received at the delivery office in the destination country"
What exactly does "item sent to customs" mean?
-
It depends if the countries have open borders or not, what exactly is being shipped and where it comes from. Freight will by and large have to at least pass through customs on some level but they aren't always checked but letters and things like that are taken at random to be scanned but this is always a tiny % (hence why our shit gets through). However if you get high risk commodities coming from high risk countries, for example sugar which is used to conceal Bing in coming from sayyyy South America that is a lot more likely to be singled out than say Sony TVs from Japan.

So if an item is sent to customs, it's probably intercepted then?

No not necessarily. Just because it is sent through customs does not mean it will be searched, it can just mean that it's going through their warehouse so they can check it off the list of what is and isn't coming through the borders (this is especially done in the case of commercial freight). Companies like Fedex/UPS/EMS/DHL/TNT etc however have their own customs procedures which expediates transition through customs which they are given permission to do (this is why they are much faster than regular post). Also sending large shipments directly to bonded warehouses is much better than to just a regular warehouse/office/home address because bonded warehouses are more trusted.

Just a bump guys - sorry for being persistent.

So, what would this mean?
International item released from Customs to Foreign Postal Administration
It means it's been released and it's been handed over to the postal service to be delivered. If customs had clocked it, they most likely wouldn't give it to the post office unless they wanted to do a controlled delivery.

Limitless, thank you so much for your help. +1 karma to you brother. I'm prepared for a CD, but I doubt it will occur.

No worries mate, happy to help. :)
Just out of interest what amount are we talking here? What I also advise you to do is to keep an eye on the tracking as it come to you, if there is any odd stops or delays then I would begin to start taking precautions. What I advice is that as soon as it gets delivered is that you get a great big fat marker pen and right "RETURN TO SENDER" as soon as you get it. Then leave it by the door for say 24-48 hours and whatever the fuck you do DO NOT OPEN THE MOTHER FUCKER because if you do all that you can easily retain your deniability which is your greatest weapon. If they did do a controlled delivery, they will hit you within 30-60 minutes of it being in your hands so get that marker pen out straight away, don't waste any time.
And cheers for the karma mate, that one makes the big 7-0! :D

I noticed :) Big 70! One of the biggest I've seen. Such girth. Anyway, w/ the situation we talked about earlier, and the fact I was a regular w/ him, it gave me pause. House is clean, and I will do the RTS immediately. Not sure how long I will be able to hold out though :)
As I say I would give it at least 24 hours. It's a small time to wait to save your own ass.

customs is tricky, If it comes in thru san fran it always says inbound handed over to customs for me. I have gotten it delivered before the message cleared, if its express they are only allowed to hold it for a short amount of time, remember it takes time to get warrants and test your items, If customs hold sit for 2 days then releases it your prolly fine. 2 weeks? clean house.

Yeah the trick is directing it through the easiest port, doesn't always work but you can tweak it sometimes. :)

Yeah NY is my favorite ;)

Yeah NY is the best, Chicago is the biggest bitch of them all though.

All other international orders on my end have always gone through NY, which is why I'd never seen that message, and why it freaked me out. It was there for such a short time, can't imagine it was compromised. CA post says its still there, but USPS says its out for delivery.
I wouldn't worry about that, it's just an overlap in the system updates. You should take what the postal service in your country says as what is true.

I haven't been able to reach the vendor yet, but got a letter on my door stating my package was at the post office requiring signature. Do I go get it?

Sure, if you want to go to prison.

Yeah, I would NOT get that. That's the number one tip I've always heard here.
What was the order? If I may ask. Was it a large quantity? And does the vendor have good reviews of his/her packaging?
I would personally clear house, if you haven't already, and just lay low for a little while.

I have a couple of questions, how was the package sent? if it was sent express its gonna require a signature anyways. also how long did customs have it?
