I'd recommend a warning message like this to be shown before review...
- Do not post "finalizing early"
- Do not post "I haven't tried it yet but it's probably good"
- Do not ONLY post how long it took to arrive, review the product
- (can't think of more but there are quite a few that piss me off because they contain no real info)
For non-FE vendors, I'm more interested in how long it takes for them to post the item, because the rest is up to the postal service, really.
Next... Saw this in the scam-faq thread:
Vendors value a 5/5 rating. Please PM a vendor BEFORE giving a lower rating
If you do rate a vendor below 5/5 for chicken shit, be prepared to be called out on your review.
I agree with a lot that's in this FAQ, most of it could be described as "have common sense and don't be a dickhead". But not this part. I'm sure others have said this before somewhere in the forum, but I'd like to join them. Giving everyone 5/5 by default completely defeats the whole purpose. I know it's kind of late now because there are already a lot of ratings posted, but if SR ever decides to replace the old system with a new one... :)
Someone recommended that there should be different ratings for the product and the shipping. I propose:
- Communication
- Packaging
- Product
I also propose a ~100 char limited (optional) input field for "why" for anything less than 5/5 (it wouldn't have to take up space, could be shown only when you hover over the scores).
Someone also recommended some solution (don't remember the specifics) to mitigate the effects of a vendor creating new accounts and buying from himself. It's free to create a buyer account, but getting a seller account is harder.
My idea is this (and I'm not saying it's the perfect plan or I put a lot of thought into it, but it's a start): you could combine the 3 scores (communication, packaging, product), multiply it by how many different vendors the buyer has bought from (the bigger / more purchases, the more weight per vendor).
Sorry if all of this has been said before, I did search the forums from the root and only found scatters related to specific aspects of the rating system.
