i've had the following happen to me today on silkroad PM. (for the sake of readability, whenever his is used, read his/her)
A user contacted me claiming that he finalized early a month ago and never received the package, asking for a 50% refund. I actually say sure no problem, (I ask him if he can leave a message on my review thread as a favour in return, doing this).
Producing a transaction number is not possible because he doesn't have access to these transactions , so he claims, because its too long ago.
I ask him which was the feedback text that he left so i can find the user and transaction.
He then gives me the feedback that he supposedly left.
I inform him that his current username is not the same as the name given for the feedback. He says he lost his account information and is using a new account.
To verify i ask him for his old username, he then says !!! it was too long ago, he can't remember his old username.
Then i check the messages sent to this user and this user actually sent me a message confirming that he received the package. (i can produce proof of this to silkroad if they would want to look into if this is a new scam technique). So i confront him with this, and he says he must have chosen the wrong feedback!
I than ask him to produce a mail address that he had me ship to, so perhaps it rings a bell. He sends me the mail address and then starts with something of a 'threat'
saying that he is working with silkroad to get his old account back (of which he doesn't remember the username), now he is threatening that if i don't give him the money now, that he will put 1/5 review as soon as he gets the account back up. An account he told me before he CANNOT REMEMBER the username from.
so...
he/she picked the wrong feedback they left a month ago.
lost the account info they placed the order with
cannot remember the account username BUT is claiming to work with SR to get the account back.
does produce a mailing address (that does not ring a bell with me)
asking for a refund.
I am also placing this message now, so that if he starts trolling me on the forums i can prove that i wrote about this issue before and so he cannot 'threaten' to troll me on the community forums.
anybody has experience with similar situations?
thanks, max

Any vendor who gives someone ANY kind of refund in that situation has no business being a vendor. LOL, unless he likes giving away money. I doubt he would change the rating to a 1/5, as he is obviously not the person he claims. If he did? 1 bad feedback isn't the end of the world, and you have every right to withhold any type of compensation until he provides at least SOMETHING to prove his case, which he hasn't. As for FE, that right there means he is shit out of luck for any kind of recourse. Thank you for getting the word out, but fuck this guy and the rest of the scammers that keep making it necessary for vendors to ask for FE from new accounts. Seriously, scammers need to be anally raped with a white hot fire poker and then shot in the eye.

why do you ask for FE and then hand out refunds? that doesn't make sense. they could just stay in escrow. That would also rid you of this problem.
It's weird with the username. But what if he just didn't want to tell you?
Not exactly the smartest way to handle things. On both sides. Escrow isn't some evil thing invented by greedy users to rip you off. It can help the vendor as well.

i'm trying to be a nice guy and i do most things in escrow but certain countries and amounts as of yet i don't because i cannot afford losing the money, basically you could call me 'chicken', but i'm playing it safe here.
if all went well for a period (i have a certain 'margin of package loss/scamming' margin) then if almost all packages were received in just order, i tend towards being lenient on people who seem to be making an honest claim.
i understand the escrow system benefits vendors too, and i wan't to use it all the time (i'd prefer all my orders were from the EU and the users had high transaction ratings), but sometimes i get quite a few 0/0% or orders from countries that other vendors don't even ship to or require finalizing early.
Actually the mailing address doesn't even work, the street name he gave doesn't exist in the town he mentioned and the zip code is completely wrong. This was a scammer for sure.
