Title: Storing Shrooms?
Post by: neo67 on August 01, 2013, 06:19 pm
Hi friends,

How long do  mushrooms stay fresh for,if i leave them in vendor packaging?

I intend to store them for at least 2 months,is this possible? will the shrooms stay fresh and potent?

Many thanks.

Yes, 2 months is definitely not going to hurt them. Make sure they are stored in a cool, dark place. Sunlight or oxygen can affect the active ingredients negatively, so as long as you keep those two factors out of the situation you will be fine.

Hi, neo67.

Most important thing is moisture and heat. Don't store them someplace damp. The ideal situation is vacuum sealed in a mason jar with a silica packet for moisture.

Moisture will grow mold
Heat will cause the mushrooms to lose potency.

Shrooms stored this way will stay for a year or two without any kind of potency loss.
Source: I have grown pounds of mushrooms.

I have had 3 year old mushrooms and they worked just fine! But everyone else is right, hide them from oxygen, light, heat and moisture and they can last years and years!
