Title: Transfering Kleopatra to new computer
Post by: logboy on October 25, 2011, 06:42 am
Hi,

I just got a new computer and I am trying to figure out how to transfer my private key, public key etc over.
I have Kleopatra all ready to go, just can't get it to play nice.
I have tried importing certificates, but that doesn't give me "my certificates".
Is there an easy way of doing it, or do I have to create a new key pair?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

Regards,
logboy

I've done it just by exporting to a flash drive, then copying them into my new Kleopatra.  Now I'm using GPA right now, cuz I like the clipboard, but if I remember right, on Kleopatra, you can just copy the plaintext file you want to import, and then right click on the Kleopatra icon (the one in startups, rite lower corner) if it's open, and then click on 'import'.

The other way I tend to do it, is I always have a good online stash spot: dropbox, swissdisk, and just upload the files there, then download to desktop and import.  Sometimes I've had to make them *.asc files if they aren't already, and save them as 'all files' , (not text), but then usually I can doubleclick and kleopatra imports them automatically.

If this doesn't answer your question--my explanations get weird--let me know.  I do a lot of importing and exporting of keys, and so far, no problem.

Thank you very much.
All working properly now.
I just copied my keys to an external drive and imported them over.
Yay :)
