A bunch of people have private messaged me wondering why this thread was deleted, they seem to think it may be because I mentioned that there are thousands of people who have been arrested for getting drugs in the mail, and that this may scare people away from placing orders and have a chilling effect on noobs.
I would like to think it got moved to a moderation forum where they are now discussing adding an intelligence subforum like I suggested, for pooling law enforcement documentation / case studies / research papers etc related to online drug trafficking and such. But who knows. I do know that I don't like to see entire threads censored though, particularly without just locking them and giving an explanation.
-
I'm really surprised it was deleted. Some good honest thinking and questions were happening...
-
So people have actually been arrested from SR? I though it was a very small amount of people. What are the charges for receiving a small amount of weed?
-
I'm disappointed I missed the thread, I would have liked to read what people were posting. And to echo doublemint's question: People have actually been arrested from ordering online? This is the first I have heard of it and if true I am disappointed in the mod who deleted the thread...this is the kind of stuff that needs to be discussed, isn't that why we have a 'Security' board?

Well I never though nobody was arrested but I figured if you took the right precautions, no. I would love to learn from others mistakes, I think that it's awful that the moderators are censoring things just to keep profits up.
If they actually did censor it.

I believe the thread was deleted and not moved, because my postcount fell by the number of posts I'd made in it once simple machines' cronjob for updating stats rolled around.

I am not aware of any, but if somebody was, would we find out about how law enforcement got their intel? We are slowly getting info about prosecutions of others that have been caught elsewhere, but that is only evidence, not the intelligence that led to it.
-
My postcount decreased too, the thread was definitely deleted. I'm disappointed because it already had some great information, and things like that should be discussed on here - after all, what could be more important than discussing ways to keep this community safe?
-
A thread like that existed?
It showed how others screwed up?
It showed what *not* to do?
It had facts on what has already happened, not just speculation?
My resolution is not to swear, but....@#!%.

Likely thousands of people have been arrested for buying drugs on the internet, I know of a little over a dozen cases of people I know/knew personally. Entire drug forums have been brought down in federal operations, for example in Operation Raw Deal the DEA compromised the poorly implemented encryption system of Hushmail and harvested addresses of vendors and customers, then raided several dozen people. There was also Operation Web Tryp which targeted research chemical vendors and some customers were visited by feds but I don't think any were charged. Then there was DZF which was an FBI operated sting forum. Then there are several cases of individual vendors and customers being arrested after interceptions / being snitched on by competition etc. Many of these cases have information on them which is useful for learning from the mistakes of others. Not to mention there is a wealth of intelligence to be gathered from law enforcement documents and other things.
Keep in mind that even though I know personally over a dozen people who have been arrested for drug charges linked to the internet, that I have been involved with groups that buy/sell drugs on the internet for about a decade now. There are many many more cases of people being arrested for getting drugs in the mail without a clear link to the internet, statistics show that every year the USPI arrests around two thousand people for getting drugs in the mail (if we had an intelligence forum I would dump a few dozen USPI documents with these sorts of statistics and case studies in them). This does not include people who are arrested by the DEA or ICE. Usually these are larger orders, but many have been arrested for personal use orders also. Of course you want to learn from others mistakes, that is why almost every single forum has an intelligence or at least news section for the gathering and analysis of this sort of information (of course most forums are community oriented and not aimed at making a profit for anyone in particular). I find it very strange that when I say the only reason SR wouldn't have such a subforum is because they are worried it will scare people away from using SR and hurt their profit margins, that the entire thread almost instantly vanishes without a single reason being given. I also can not seem to get any response about adding an intelligence sub forum no matter how many times I mention it. It would be a shame if profit is more important than security, let alone free speech. I will still keep my hopes up that it was merely moved to a mod only section, but honestly if the mods here are going to delete my security posts (and the entire threads that they are made in) when people being secure is counter to SR making money, I will not be sticking around here for much longer.

I 2nd this. As a newb, it would be nice to have a subforum on SAFETY & SECURITY. But as was stated in my thread asking for such a thing, it seems as though NOT having an SOP is what keeps it secure. I was told if everyone went by a SOP, then SR would be compromised more easily. But it's also very hard to decipher all the information from all the slurry, and even harder to know what's right or wrong, with all the argumentation.
I feel that any censorship is wrong.
-
start by making an "Intelligence and News Megathread" until it grows enough to warrant a forum.
-
It will quickly grow to that point just by copying info over from private forums it would quickly result in a sub forum with several dozen to a hundred valuble posts

Safety and security is quite different from intelligence. Safety and security should include things like computer security tutorials etc. Intelligence should include law enforcement documents, academic papers on the tools we are using, news stories related to what we are doing, case studies, etc. Mixing news stories in with the technical security forum is a good way to have a disorganized mess that nobody feels like contributing to or sorting through.

So DZF was a sting! I'd dropped out of online drug land before that though a lot of people were pretty confident of the fact already at that stage. I've only just signed up here but yeah it is pretty fucked that a thread about security issues would be deleted.
I have no idea what Silk Road is like yet or who the admin is, but if the logic that the thread was deleted because it would damage profit margins is true then that is a pretty short term plan. Yeah you might stop people from being informed for a while and keep your transaction volume but most likely there are a lot of intelligent fuckers here who could use such info, or the stimulus provided by such info, to increase the overall security of the system. That would preserve the transaction volume in the long run, and in general be a much cooler way to go about business.

Im guessing that it was because of Fed confidenceMen trying to spread fear and paranoia amongst the SR population
be wary of overly knowledgeable confidenceMen talkin a bunch of smart sounding strung together sentences with the final conclusion being that a 1000 plus people have been arrested allready from SR, news links or it didnt happen
so the SR mods exercised their executive power and took out the trash

Nobody said that, and that is the exact opposite of what a fed would say anyway.

I don't really care about other places. SR is unique, so any on here?

Pretty much every drug forum that's ever been has thought it was unique. Fair enough SR is pretty evolved but not caring about what happens on other places that serve the same purpose as SR is a road to failure.

Could I ask you why you think SR is unique, and why the attacks against the many online drug networks that came before it would fail here?
-
what year was DZF taken down? where they on the Tor network
What was it that brought them down, where was the flaw in security

No dzf was not a location hidden service, in fact they banned exit nodes, which should have been a tipoff to anybody that was there then. I think it's pretty funny btw that two different people told a cautionary parable and used dzf as the example in separate threads an hour apart from each other. *g*

I never said 1,000 people on SR dumbass I said on the internet. Have fun living in your isolated SR bubble and not learning anything from any of the other hundred drug sites that there are / have been over the past decade plus.

Evolved is the word. SR is the bengal tiger of (open) sourcing sites atm. Yes, LE is watching and trying to figure/implement some kinda plan. We all know this, i don't think anyone's naive enough to think the pork is just sitting on their hands, spreading FUD without an endgame.
kmfkewm: I didn't bring up computer security in that comment so Do Not Flame :)

lol im sittin here clicking the show posts replied to and the you can be monitored or whatever topic never come back up... lol idk but i will say that there are too many smart people giving le too many good ideas. SR you a wonderful place but i think you guys can do better. i think forums should be minimized to simple vendor rating and a list of do's, dont's, otherwise the community is going to destroy its self

:o
It's seriously disturbing to me that the A&P thread was just removed like that, with no explanation. Any chiefs care to explain to us indians wtf that's all about? That's a huge red flag to me...I just can't get over it. Security should be the foremost consideration here and related ideas should be widely disseminated. My confidence is getting shakier by the day here, to say the least...

Seriously can we at least know why the thread was deleted, or is it just going to be ignored entirely?

idk why it was deleted, but the fact that it was deleted scared me shitless vs letting it run.
if it were a sitcom, it'll go something like this.
junkie: HEY EVERYone, look, there's a condom in my burger!!
junkie2: OH MY GOD> there must be condoms and jizz in everyone's burger. wtf
SR: oh wow! now look at that! Jizz?? and condoms?? the hell! how?? what..
junkie3: what's going on? is there something wrong with my burger too? I ate half of it already and the special sauce was somewhat salty.
SR: HEY EVERYONE, free burgers for everyone!! fresh burgers!! haha. It's FREE BURGER's DAY!! just for today, and don't tell anyone shh.
junkie: well, thank goodness! It's comforting to know that these fresh one's are jizz free!
junkie3: what??? you mean, I just ate several mouthfull's of jizz??? why didn't you guys warn me!
junkie2: my gosh man, learn to look before you bite... and yes, I hope these new burgers weren't freshly fucked.
SR: Hay. Cheer up guys!! free burgers!! fresh ones!
All three junkies sit and stare at their fresh burgers....
would you eat it?
Meanwhile... In the kitchen:
FBI: muahh hahaha! mwahh!! (fap fap fap) all we had to do was click on "silk road is hiring". mwahhwa !! (fap fap fap)
FBI 2: yes... hehe /snort.... YES!! (fap fap fap)
