I am a newbie so would please someone explain me how that a pgp key works step by step. Yes i am not so clever with computers and stuff. Just wanna have Bitcoins.
Thanks in advance you guys!
-
Sure, man.
PGP is simple once you get used to it, but there is software that makes it very easy.
First download GPA here: http://www.gnupg.org/download/mirrors.en.html
You need to generate a key pair. This gives you a private key and a public key. You should be the only person to ever see your private key, but your public key is meant to be freely shared.
People use your public key to encrypt messages, and you are the ONLY person able to decrypt the message using your private key (not even the sender can decrypt it after they encrypt it).
Whenever they send you a message, they will give you their public key and you use their public key to encrypt a message to send to them.
If you need any help practicing, I will be glad to help!
Here is my public key:

Look Fable that is how far i got yet. I work with PGP4usb. This is my adress i wrote in the notepad and copy/paste it. Then Encrypt and this is the result.
But how do i can read other Public Keys here on SR? As i copy/paste and push the button of Decrypt, i have a small square that says No data. Do i have the password of that vendor? What i'm doing wrong? But you see that i'm trying until i know it all how to work with it.
Please your advice is VERY welcome my friend!
Thanks in advance.
PS : I have also that Kleopatra thing but...to much going on and to much buttons and stuff.
Happy new year to all of you!! (Not for the scammers, they can f***ing die!!!)

Hi,
I am not fable, but that is not exactly correct.
You have entered some text inside the ---BEGIN and ---END lines, you shouldn't do that, just put any cleartext you might want to send above or below the pgp block.
I don't know if you are interested, but just in case some information about pgp (I have studie math, so I know something about encryption);
- each party has a private and a public key
- you can generate a key-pair (public, private) with whatever pgp software you are using
- the private key needs to be kept strictly secret, consider storing it on a USB stick
- the public key can be posted anywhere
- if anyone wants to send a message to you that only you can read, he uses the public-key to encrypt the message, and you use your private key to decrypt
- you can also sign a message with pgp, proving that the message really is from you and not from someone else. And you can combine both features, signing and encryption, as you wish.
The basic principle is that prime numbers are generated and multiplied. "cracking" would involve finding a and b from a * b = c , which is quite difficult, depending on the length of the primes a and b (the NSA might be able to do it, but unless you sell nukes ore something like that, I doubt that they will invest computing power to this).
cheers,
Stephe

Stephe, thank you! I noted that after I posted. I appreciate the additional info as well. I believe I have now mastered how to post my "public" address. If anyone would test it, it would be greatly appreciated:

Stephe, thank you again! This has taken a few full days (good thing it is the Holidays), but I think I am good with navigating TOR, SR, Dwolla, MtGox, GetBitCoin, Bitcoin Wallet, and now GPG (or PGP?) I paced an order a few minutes ago.
For all other newbies, good luck. It is an adventure in trial and error. Just make sure you get them all worked out BEFORE you order.
Warning: watch MtGox as I have posted many times. That was the biggest trial and error result on my part, but straightened out now. I would not recommend using them.

Or does it only works when then send it to me personal via pm? And do i need their password then?? I cant believe it. But when i understand pgp then i am ready to roll on SR ;)

You use someone's public key to encrypt messages to send to them. I do this by saving their public key to a text file and clicking "Import" in GPA (the program I linked you to)
You give your public key to others so they can encrypt messages and send them to you. You don't want to encrypt things using your own key because you're the only person who can decrypt it

There is two guides about how PGP works on other threads. Just search of PGP guide and you will know what I am talking about.

- lost with what ?
- are all the right gpg apps installed, there are stickies and threads that layout tips for mac and windows...etc
???

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?board=3.0
- there are a couple of pgp / gpg threads on this forum, take a read thru them as i dont have the installation steps myself for every OS and i dont use windows and doubt
you run Linux...
ok?

PGP is a pain if you dont know how to set it up. But there is a great guide on how to set up PGP. Just go to the guide and follow the instructions and you will be running PGP in no time
