Alright, so I'm a fairly new user however I've been lurking a bit, and have some buddies that are pretty used to ordering and selling on SR.
So I've been looking around and trying to find the easiest and safest way to transfer my USD into bitcoin. I've read some how to posts but the problem is, I usually run into errors that stop me from making any progress.
I've been trying to look into making a deposit at Walmart, or a bank because that's what I feel most comfortable doing, and that's what some of my pals often do and recommend.
Links and step by step help is much appreciated!
Also to be clear-
I have my money ready, a safe place to receive packages, and the instawallet and throwaway email figured out. I have grown accustomed to using Tor safely and correctly as well, I just seem to have a hard time going through with the money exchange part!

here is how i do it:
I don't use tor for the first few steps as it could raise suspicion
I buy my coins on www.btc-e.com as they are generally a bit cheaper than mtgox.
1. go to (clearnet warning) www.btc-e.com and create a burner account using a normal burner email account with gmail.
2. next go to (clearnet warning) www.bitinstant.com and select cvs as the cash payment (it doesn't matter which deposit location you choose. You can choose one and actually use another. I had to do this when the loaction i chose was having problems with their system)
3. On pay to choose btc-e
4. fill out the remainder of the form using the same name and email address you used to create your burner btc-e account.
5. after following that process it will email you a slip (could take a few minutes to email it and make sure you check your spam file in the burner email account.)
6. print out this slip and go to a cvs and pick up the red phone. Give them a fake name on the phone and fake phone number. (they don't check it) At this point on the red phone you are giving them the information on the slip which is a set of numbers. You are basically paying a bill to zipzap which is used for many other things besides bitcoins.
7. When you are done and it says the transaction is complete you then go get in line and tell them you need to pay for a moneygram. Make sure you tell them you are paying a bill. There are two options one is sending money to a person the other is paying a bill. When you say you are paying a bill they pull up the screen and ask for your name. give them the name you gave the people on the red phone. At this time you will pay the amount of the bill. (I havn't been asked for an id at this time and have done it this way a few times. If they ask for an id say you don't have one on you and you were doing a friend a favor paying their rent. You can prob slide by this way as an id is not required. If they say no just go to another location and do the process again. I had to do this due to cvs system not working. If you go to a new location then you have to repeat the process on the red phone again.)
8. About 30 mins later the money will be in the burner account of your btc-e.com account. From there you can purchase bitcoins when you see prices you like. That site is pretty self explanatory.
------------------------------------
Another option is to have coins sent straight to your email account. I wouldn't use tormail. Use a burner gmail account. Paying for the bitcoins is the same process using the red phone sending a moneygram. Except instead of money appearing in an exchange account, bitcoins are sent to your email. You can also use mtgox using the same method. I prefer to use an exchange so I can try to get coins at prices I want. They fluctuate. Last time I bought coins they jumped a whole dollar in 24 hours.
Hope this helps and if you have any questions pm me.
