Title: someone please explain Karma inprofile, do you believe in karma
Post by: mattyrich on June 14, 2013, 10:41 pm
Can someone please explain what the Karma +/- means in your profile.  And do you believe in Karma in real life?

I think it's when someone does or does not like your posts they'll give you either negative or positive karma on your profile.

i did not know what it meant either.
How do you give out karma?
If its just based on someone not liking a post or doing it on purpose it does not mean much.
I am not into popularity contests for forum posts.
Everyone has an opinion and there are entitled to it.
(unless totally vulgar nonsense)
Whether you disagree or not.
Just disagree in a reply.
I never judge anyone or their opinions.
You make judgements/etc by your own life experience and that is all you can comment on.
Not hypotheticals.
Also never judge someone till you have walked  a mile in their shoes is another good one.

They probably didn't like something you said but are a spineless fuck and didn't want to tell you. You see people post "+1 Karma to you and you and you" but never -1 to you. I use to think the lowest form of life on the planet is scammers, liars, and snitches. Now I think it’s the assholes anonymously giving out negative Karma...E-Thugs, Internet tough guys.

The Karma feature is meant to be a tool that enables you to see who is serious, and knowledgeable (They should have loads of positive karma), and who is just trolling and speaking about thing they know nothing about (They should have massive amounts of negative karma).

Unfortunately a lot of the users abuse this feature and hand out negative karma to everyone the disagree with, or simply because they have a bad day.

Overall the karma thing can give you a hint on who is legit and who isnt as scumbags tend to receive lots of negative karma, but on the other hand, during the last server-maintenance we started seeing pissed of kids and other cunts give all the mods negative karma simply because they were frustrated that they couldnt get their drug!

You will be able to hand out karma once you reach 100 posts, but there are some restrictions on amounts of karma points you can hand out per day, etc.

Hope this answered your question...

That is indeed true.

But a guy with -17 and +2 karma is likely to be talking out of his ass.

Or if you look at that guy a while back (Think his name was JohnMlt or something), he racked up an impressive 100 negative karma-points at least in about a week. Now that was a real asshole (and he was a vendor nonetheless)!

Anothe great example is the noob Cannaconnection who seems to be spamming the newbie section with useless info-gathering threads, and juvenile topics! He is a moron, and if you look at his karma it says +2, and -15. In this case it helps you quickly decide that this guy should not be taken seriously, and neither should all his ridiculous threads!

I think that there is some justification to the karma system, but again, a lot of people dont use it the right way, so its not entirely reliable, and should be take with a grain of salt.

I met a girl named Karma before. She didn't have a gag reflex.

From what I can tell and from what I've experienced in different forums, you should try and make sure you're giving karma to people who are making helpful/informative posts so other users have an idea about who to trust and/or go to for advice. If you upvote or downvote depending on your mood or in accordance with who your friends are you're kind of fucking up the system. The karma system isn't necessarily foolproof when you're trying to determine who to interact with but it's a good starting point. Just my opinion! :)

Yea, that's the gist of it.

Side note, the CAPTCHA for this post was WEEBER, I don't know why but that made me giggle.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me out with this. Now I'm a little disappointed that I have -2 because I feel like I'm a pretty real and kind, thoughtful person. Damn I will have to try harder to not be cunty at all. Thanks again everyone

don't know about Karma in real life, but noticed that sometimes what goes around comes around.
think using "karma" concept on forums here is a bit too much

I believe in karma big time but i dont call it karma i call it The Law of The Echo.   Everything you do in life will eventuality come back to you.   And the way i see it when it comes back it comes back at you twice as hard as you give.
