Title: Anyone else laying low?
Post by: SmokesHisBroccoli on August 06, 2013, 11:59 pm
I think I'm going to lay low and see how all this freedom hosting/ tormail security breach stuff plays out.  I'm in the position of being unsure if I was exposed to the exploit and that's mainly due to the timing.  Even if I did meet all the technical criteria like having windows and the outdated TBB nobody can say for sure when the exploit surfaced.  I haven't been on tormail for sometime.  That's good because I probably wasn't exposed.  But bad because it's been too long for me to remember what the hell I left in my inbox.

Anyways, anyone else laying low for now?  Or is it business as usual for you?

If you're not sure whether you were exposed, the good news is that it will take LE months to years to sift through all the data on the Freedom Hosting server(s), and they will go after the biggest targets first, like major CP distributors and drug vendors who can be connected to the content of their emails. If you are a buyer, they probably won't go after you, but even if they did, you have a long time to wipe your hard drive and start fresh.

SmokesHisBroccoli- just mind you P's and Q's my friend and stay safe....LE is most likely after those Pedo pricks that distribute mass cheese pizza...again they're after big targets because they do not have the funds nor resources to knit everybody, but in the mean time just tread lightly and keep your eyes on the news and updates around here...

I'm not worried about it. I change my address frequently / don't use email for this.

I'm glad Tormail was busted, child pornography is disgusting and I hope every single pedophile that used it spends life in prison.

Thanks guys I hope you stay safe yourselves.  I guess I shouldn't be worrying too much because it never does me any good anyways and I probably don't have much to worry about.  I never conducted business through tormail.  Never sent or received an address.  NEVER involved in CP which I agree is a disgusting thing.  Plus like tanamon mentioned small timers don't have to worry as much as the big players.  And I'm about as small time as they come.

The only thing I am worried about is them being able to trace bitcoin purchases to me.  I pray that the SR tumbler does a damn fine job of washing the bitcoins.  I understand it does from what I've gathered on here.  In the future I'm going to be more diligent in washing my coins though.

Considering they were probably a tiny minority of all Tormail users, that's a terrible trade off. Tormail should have been hosted separately by someone else.

remember not everything on the road is illegal, so just proving you bought SOMETHING off SR isnt going to give them any traction.

I think the feds got what they where after, They took down FH which was their primary goal.

Those are great points.  There's all sorts of electronics and what not I could be buying.  And the feds did what they set out to do.

I could never get on tormail, so I say *phew* to all of that.  I don't use Windows to access SR, and I keep my Tor Browser Bundle up to date, so I should be ok.

I'm glad Tormail was busted, child pornography is disgusting and I hope every single pedophile that used it spends life in prison.

This shit that went down has nothing to do with child pornography. Use your common sense people. I don't know the numbers, but realistically speaking, how rampant is child pornography? Has anyone here ever seen it or witnessed someone else seeing it? I've never once in my entire life stumbled on it, and I've seen some strange shit on the internet, but child porn? Never.

This shit is about taking away our freedoms and annonymity. It's eating the Gov alive that we have this amazing community and they're not part of it, and not to mention we're taking a piece of their pie (the war on drugs). When they tried coming after with SOPA and PIPA and we shut them the fuck up becuase people actually spoke up, there was talk about the LE making a comeback and using child pornography as their new weapon.

Pity & Empathy is used by the state to manipulate you and destroy any rational objection you have. For example, you must help the poor. Or... we have to stop child rampant child pornography. Anyway, if child pornography were rampant throught the country, what makes you think they would actually care about your kid? It's almost unbearable how naive people can be.

There was enough CP on Freedom Hosting to get Anonymous interested in taking the server down 2 years ago. It's not surprising LE targeted it for that reason. They may not have known that Tormail was hosted on the same server. That might have been icing on the cake.

Me too. I got fuck all interest in 'exploring' the darknet. I don't even go to Atlantis or BMR anymore. I've developed a low-key system for ordering, and am straight chillin.

I don't think I've ever "met" people any smarter or more aware than the people on SR.
Of course, there are outliers, but the majority of us are just trying to help each other out.

Just thought I'd throw that in there.
Long live the Road.
I hope. :/

I never actually visited any of the CP sites myself because child porn really doesn't interest me, However im sure that FH did host a few CP sites from what i have understood.

I think you are right though that the government's ultimate goal is control of the population, They hate the fact you can have anonymity where their prying eyes can't see, I think their ultimate goal is a world sort of like MInority Report where they have pre-crime/thought police units that arrest people for even thinking about doing anything illegal.

What they want is total control because they view us as slaves, As mere profit vessles that are just supposed to go to work and buy things all day long, The criminal federal government no longer represents the American people and needs to be completely abolished .

i think what people should be fearful of is whether or not, and if so, how many, vendors kept their customer information easily accessible within tormail.

can you imagine your drop or personal address showing up multiple times to the FBI as they're going through all the emails?  and what if one those vendors, unbeknownst to you, is also messed up with kiddie smut?  how fucked are you now?

then the "oh, they wouldn't be concerned with just a small time user" rationale doesn't seem so applicable.
