Every time you can't get on after multiple attempts you get that sinking feeling, dontcha? "Is it down for good?" That feeling doesn't go away. Get used to it. It's the wild west boys and girls. Smoke if ya got 'em.

YES. I can never tell if it's a problem with the network at large or if my Tor browser was ever really configured correctly to begin with. I think I have that licked now, though. But hey, here's to the folks who relay
Where are the guides? That's what I'm soiling my trousers over. I almost wish I had a friend that has done this already, just so that I can sit and shadow him/her through the whole process.
But then again. I don't plan on telling a soul irl
I guess it's just fumble through garbage posts on the newbie boards just like everyone else eh?

hate that shit

Guides to Tor? Guides to the Road? Go browse Reddit in your Tor browser and search.

This is why (look at the charts): https://metrics.torproject.org/graphs.html Note: the new users aren't humans.

kind of a paradox where noobs without enough knowledge about how tor works are misusing it to buy their drugs.. (and then doing something like login to facebook or something equally stupid).
-
I wouldnt stress too much.
From what I understand, its just traffic at any given time. ie. a certain time of the day where around the world most people are trying to get onto SR.

If u cant getin, just reboot tor and wait a min or so for it to establish relays and try again... rinse and repeat. Always gets me in in 1-2 tries. Also dont forget to check updates for ur TOR bundle daily, seriously, every time u use tor.

Its bee an ongoing issue for all SR users for at least the past 36 hours.

Wrong! It affects all tor users and all hidden services.

What do you want to know? Maybe I can help. I too was bewildered when I first started. There is so much disorganized, conflicting, and incomprehensible technical info you don't know where to start or what to believe. Further, you think that one little misstep and you're BUSTED or SCAMMED. Relax...
There really isn't much to master, imho. 1) Set you TOR browser properly 2) Get BTCs, 3) Learn/use PGP , and...that's about it.
-
Chances are it would be easy to find out if SR was truly down.
-
1) Set you TOR browser properly...
Some folks may not know how to do that -- why don't you provide a bit of a guide for that (for other noobs)?

The Guides are all here - http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page The Silk Road Wiki.
What's scary is that people have started placing orders without reading them first, not to mention doing some of their own research.

a quick scan of some of the latest news posts on the tor project website might fill in a few blanks,
-
It will go down one day, but not any time soon.
-
Keep the faith fellows! SR is making to much money to just shut down and scam everyone. Now one day LE will step in and then..........
-
As long as more relays keep coming up and the tornet keeps growing they will never be able to shut it down... There are things they could do to ruin it but id rather not list those incase LEO wasnt to read my posts dont wanna give em any ideas. The beauty of TOR is its distributed nature.

so far so good

Can anyone please explain the value differential between BTC and USD. I still need some clarity on this because whenever I look at BTC prices I don't know how they would translate with USD.
Thanks

Thanks
1) Go to a bitcoin trading site.
2) Find out how much buying one bitcoin would cost you.
3) That is how much one bitcoin is worth. That is your "differential".
-
It always makes me nervous. Atleast its been more up than down lately :)

If you go to your settings in SR you can change Currency to view in USD

Damn
-
Well i joined a few months ago when things were more shaky and i was nervous for a little while
-
paranoia paranoia everybodys comin to get me...
-
that shit sucks
-
does anyone know of any irl who got busted buying shit via SR?
-
Instead of pissing my pants, I change to a new identity with vidalia and pages load again
if you're having probs getting into anything .onion or SR in general just refresh your identity, it should work
unless SR is under attack or maintenance, shouldn't be hard to get in
Remember, browsing with Tor isn't like using Firefox or a normal browser... gotta follow a certain set of guidelines...
