Let's say I have $200 cash right now in my pocket. What's the easiest way to get that into bitcoins? I also have a debit and credit card but obviously don't want to use that.
I see people on these forums recommend all kinds of websites. Just looking for the simplest and safest way to exchange $ for btc.

Depends where you live. In the US or UK most people recommend LocalBitcoins.com, where you can find local folks to sell you some for cash.

hell you don't even have to meet the person a lot of sellers on there offer cash deposits at national banks in escrow

If you move your coins through an account or two and a laundry is there any realistic danger to buying coins on an online exchange which will likely need some form of identity verification?
Of course its always better to buy anonymously if possible, but that is not always an option for everyone

I used localbitcoins and OTC for my first trades. very easy
coinbase is very easy too

I can heartily recommend #bitcoin-otc on freenode. You can find reputable sellers on there who allow you to make cash deposits to their bank accounts in exchange for BTC.
If you connect to freenode through Tor, use an e-mail account you signed up for using Tor and pay for BTC ONLY using cash, you are operating pretty low under the radar.
I have purchased from there many times and although there's a bit of learning to get used to in order to start interacting with people in the channel, it's nothing too complicated. If you want more advice about it, please send me a message.

No it definitely hasn't. Going on Phishing sites like the one above will get your coins stolen if you enter your PIN.

Yes, there are some good guides to #bitcoin-otc:
http://wiki.bitcoin-otc.com/wiki/Using_bitcoin-otc
Also, if you're still unsure after that, if you go in the channel you'll usually find someone willing to explain the SOP. Another good thing to do after reading the guide is to just lurk in the channel and observe what goes on. You pick it up quickly. It's a great system once you get into it.
