Title: PGP Key Dumb Question
Post by: jckd on June 12, 2013, 03:59 pm
hi,

I am about to set a private key.  I did a search and could not find anything.  When I go to make a key it says to use your name so others will know its you easier.  It says it will put your name in the key.  So,  Do I use my real name? Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

It's not necessary.  I don't think it really matters.

if it wants your name, obviously use your SR username, not your real name....

No you can enter what you like. Do bear in mind that you don't need to create a public/private keyset if your just trying to send messages to people who have already provided you with their public key - you can just use that.

If you want to provide a public key to pass around to other people for them to send you encrypted messages, then you'd need to generate a keyset.

Hope that makes sense!

Make a key for yourself and use any name you want, its not really necessary if you are just a consumer
