Title: Keeping the Community Well Informed
Post by: axisofinfinity on May 11, 2012, 06:38 am
Nearly ever time I'm planning on placing an order and I see a long list of feedback I head over to the forum to check out the reviews on the product and/or vendor. Nearly every time I go to the forum to check out what people that received the order have to say about it I find none or minimal reviews on the product. This makes me wonder if all Silk Road users know of the forums, if they just don't care enough to help out fellow members, or maybe just forget after they finalize the order.
I wanted to know if it would be possible t that after you finalize an order a link/suggestion to visit the forum pops up. I personally don't know all of the work that would need to go into this for those that maintain the site but if it is manageable I think it would help out SR's members greatly. This would get more information on vendors and products up, helping to not only prevent scamming but also prevent poor quality products from being sold on the road. I didn't post much here when i started out on SR but lately I've been trying to make sure I do with every new order I make. If this would be a programmers nightmare (which my inexperienced mind doesn't think the case) then of course it's out of the question. Anybody know if this is a possibility, or if there is a way i could contact those maintaining the site?

I think the reason there is not such a feature is 2-fold.

1)  SR wants to keep scripting to a minimum, especially when it comes to placing and finalizing orders.  When you click wither of those links, bitcoins move....and that in essence is one of the riskiest parts of hosting transactions for SR and DPR and whomever scripts the tumbler etc.
Adding in pop ups or redirects probably wouldnt be that difficult but its just one more thing that could poptentially be exploited, as it would mean network traffic moving outside of SR and coinciding with a purchase.  wheres Kws at?  He could probably analyze this aspect of it much better.

2)  I think most SR users are well aware of the forums, from personal experience I relied heavily on the forums to familiarize myself with security, buying coin, packaging, and so much more.  One of the first things we all did when we got on SR, or any other site for that matter, is explore the functionality and features, how to navigate etc.  The forums are one of the few links at the bottom and I think most every user has certainly been here at some point, but a lot of people probably don't share their experience because like you said either they're too lazy, or a tinfoil hat isn't enough for them to post in the forums, which for arguements sake, can be read by anyone/anytime :o

Puts tinfoil hat back on
