Title: USBlive with Persistents
Post by: windmillz on January 16, 2013, 05:45 am
I was wondering how secure making a LiveUSB Tails Boot Disk with Persistents would be. Reason I would want persistents is to be able to save my GPG keys to the USB. Will this compromise the security of the USB if I create it with persistents? Right now I am just using a regular USB with the OS installed onto it. Every time I make a GPG key, and turn the computer off everything will be lost.  Any ideas greatly appreciated!!

The persistance folder is encrypted. No one could access it without the password. Use a strong password and you're golden.

Your fine with using persistence on Tails. Only possible concern is that its possible to identify that there IS a persistent volume on the USB. Personally I don't consider that much of an issue as its still encrypted & if your smart you'll plan on noone ever finding the USB & being able to fiddle with it.

A good trick is to swallow the USB between uses - while it does cut down the frequency you can access SR to once every 48 hours it is very secure.

You'll want to get one of those waterproof USB's if you do this :)
