Title: Mt.Gox Newbie Error? Am I screwed?
Post by: DaTwisty1 on November 23, 2012, 03:32 am
So I just started with SR and jumped right into getting everything set up.  I'm afraid I may have screwed up royally but wanted some input on whether I'm just freaking out or if I should be genuinely concerned.

I set up an account with Mt.Gox and transferred a couple hundred dollars into it from my personal checking account.  From there, I moved it into my SR account.  I've already placed an order so BTC has moved from my account into a vendor's.  Am I fucked or am I just freakin' out?  I've since read in the forums that purchasing BTC should be done with a cash wire transfer through MoneyGram or a similar service in order to maintain anonymity.  Did I leave myself wide open to LE?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated  :)

I wouldnt be to worried, but i would be more careful in the future.

Silk Road has a built in bicoin mixer. This means that LE could figure out you sent BTC to the silk road, but they cant see what you buy with it on the site.  If you look around the site, there are a few legal items as well ;D

I dont think they have the resources to go after 200$ purchases anyways

Ah thank you kindly for the response.  I may get some sleep tonight after all haha.  Very good to know about SR's bitcoin mixer!  And yes, I will definitely be more careful going forward.  I think I'll close my current Mt.Gox account and start fresh with a new account through a different service.

Cheers!

Deposit funds > Mix via online wallet service  > Mix again if you are wearing a tin foil hat > transfer to SR.  Do the reverse on the way out if you ever go in that direction.  :)
