Title: First bitcoin deposit missing more than $45!
Post by: dmznut on April 17, 2013, 02:45 am
Today I decided to make my first bitcoin deposit to my sr account. I used bitinstant's direct to bitcoin deposit method. I needed at least $260 in my sr account so I was forced to pay $270 to bitinstant because they take a 4% fee. On top of this the payment service (zipzap) took an additional $4. So all in all I ended up paying $274 out  of pocket at the moneygram deposit location. All was going well until I decided to log into my sr account to see if the funds had been deposited. To my surprise the funds had reached the account but only $215 was showing as my balance. What happened to $260? I just logged in again and my funds have gone down to $205! I understand that the value of bitcoins is constantly changing but how did I lose $45 before the funds even reached my account?

Can someone please explain to me what's going on. Should I contact bitinstant?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: I'd also like to mention that my sr account shows that I have a balance of 3.17btc but only $205 is being displayed as my account balance. How is this possible if 3.17btc is worth $234 at this moment in time?

There needs to be a better method of payment... Bitcoin is obviously the best of choice at this point in time due to its high anonymity however it falls short on a lot of things. Some examples include the fragility of the currency and how easily it can be manipulated as a result of digital attacks. Furthermore, a majority of the exchange sites that handle bitcoin have given it a bad name due to their lack of compliance with growing consumer demand and poor customer service. I've lost over $200 worth of bitcoins this past month because of the crash as well as absolute shit customer service from companies I trusted with my hard earned cash. If sr accepted another form of anonymous payment I would have left bitcoins a long time ago.

It's a matter of time before bitcoins are overhauled and replaced with a more up to date, secure, anonymous and STABLE digital currency run by legitimate, professional business owners with experience in customer relations.

So I downloaded bitcoin spinner to my android and kept checking. When the exchange rate went up to my buying price i quickly made my deal. All's well that ends well and I learned one thing. Watch for the dip, buy and wait for the rise.
