Post by: Gioware on August 19, 2013, 04:32 pm
Believer? belieber? non-believer? religious? Catholic-christian? Muslim? maybe Buddhist?

I'll start to give some motivation: non-believer

dont talk religion unless you want a fight, but whatever, here it goes:

personally im athiest but i have no problem with religious people until they start bashing on homosexuals or other minority groups, and that religion shouldnt be about that or blabbering on and on about how god is so great, it should be about being a kind person and worshipping a god in your own way and not having to pay money to a church

Being nice human this is my religion and goal.

Religions for me is a planets yesterday. In my opinion there's only buddah was close to that.

Bringing peace and lil' love to grow in your existence you'll bring happiness into lives of others.

If you'll be at list fair with yourself and other people you'll get some gifts from life.

There's no religion need to get this if you not a fucking retard.

Not religious anymore, but grew up on a cult compound in the middle of nowhere. I'm still very interested in religion and religious people. And I like some of the ideas attributed to Jesus (and every other religious figure ever) like treat people right, take care of your neighbor, that sort of thing.

Atheist w/ two caveats:

1.  I, nor anyone else, knows the origin of the universe.
2.  The burden of proof is on the person making claims about having the final truth for mankind.

Not very interesting, though.

Holy shit that sounds fascinating.  Please elaborate.  I've always been interested in the psychology behind cults.  Do you hate your parents for taking you there?  How did you end up getting out?

Hahahaha, couldn't agree more bro! Really religion is messed up. Its all myths and legend that do nothing but instill fear at the end of the day. I would love to live in a society where everything is allowed yet morality is preferred. That to me is Heaven!

WOW, I don't think I have ever seen one of these where people can really speak what they think with out a baptist or JW throwing a major fit.

I personally try to be a good person, I may not follow my government's idea of what a good person is but I am honest and I don't fuck people around for no reason and that is more then I can say for them, lol.

Also I like galileosophia's statement
"1.  I, nor anyone else, knows the origin of the universe.
2.  The burden of proof is on the person making claims about having the final truth for mankind."

The bible is not proof. Even if it were true, it would no longer have any meaning because every person just twists it to say what they want.

Don't tell anyone here in these mountains I speak like this. My yard would be filled with fat old women telling me how they are better then me, atleast my government would allow me to shoot them if they wouldn't leave. Then I would be all over the news though and the situation portrayed as a massacre and a statement against christianity. Then some christian would twist something else in the bible to make it right to hurt me or my family. So you tell me who is dangerous, lol.

Sorry about that, I was baptist raised and have developed a sort of hate for christians, I really try not to hate anyone but damn. If anyone here has ever spent more then a week in the south eastern US you would know what I mean.

agnostic. imo the only way to be right is to admit that you don't know anything about the afterlife.

I don't believe in a god nor do I have reason to believe in any sort of afterlife which extends beyond how we breakdown and our atoms are reused by other organisms for food. Personally I have always been atheist even when I was in a religious Christian school as an infant where I didn't understand why people believed in the Bible nor do I now as an adult. There was never any logical steps in the book that made sense to me and even as a very small child I couldn't help but realise how many holes there were in the logic and the facts to it.

Personally I believe that you're entitled to follow the Bible, the Torah, the Quran or whatever other religious text you hold dear as long as it doesn't affect me or those unaffiliated with your religion. When religion tries to take hold in law making or trying to impede on the rights of others is when I have an issue with it.

I agree, except a big portion of me wants to encourage religious people to analyse their beliefs critically, and look at what evidence exists to support their beliefs.

Surely, without evidence there is no basis for belief?

And then the people who harbor desires to kill one another might realise that their murderous intent is based on a flimsy filigree of inherited superstition.

I know I sound like I'm idealising, and I admit I am, but when you distill things down to the basics, I've described it perfectly.

There exists a system of truth that can be proven through correlation,
but still of course faith is needed.

But "faith" is something we use everyday anyway, faith in life, faith in others.

Anyway the number 7 defines this system of principles, which is found
everywhere and in everything, even in our 7-day weekly cycle.

I bet nobody here knows why there are exactly 7 days....

It seems nobody is aware of the secrets of the number 7.

Religion: none.

Note there are well established links between IQ and atheism and higher educational achievement and atheism.

That is probably because most people becoming atheists, go against their parent's religion, and thus these people become
atheists do not fall into the 95% category of people following the religion of their parents.

But I am sure that among those 5% of self-thinking individuals, there are also many non-atheists.

And among those other 95% there are no doubt thinking people who stay in the system for various reasons,
like social networking, money, status etc.
