Hi guys,
I have recently put up a few listings for Label 400s. These are not very easy to get your hands on anymore. I have seen a lot of people asking where or how to get them, many of whom tell stories of how they were turned down at the post office. A lot of the clerks have been telling people they are not allowed to give them out anymore. That if you want your package tracked you must bring it in and do it over the counter or use click-to-ship or other similar online services.
That is not completely true. While they may not be allowed to hand them out anymore they most certainly still work and you can certainly have your packaged tracked without going into the PO. All you need to do is add 90 cents to the postage and slap on a label 400. As long as your package is under 13 ounces you can just throw it in a blue drop box. In my experience they will not get scanned into the system until they make it to the nearest soring facility but that is sufficient for most of our purposes here on the road.
In many peoples opinion this is the safest way to track packages especially for the buyers. When using click-to-ship vendors are linking all of their buyers addresses together. Unless they change accounts daily it links a lot of customers together and could essentially give LE a list of customers addresses. All it takes is one pack to get discovered and now all of the other buyers that had orders sent to them from that click-to-ship account could be at risk. And the scariest part of all is they would not even know it!
Vendors, do not put your clients at risk printing your tracking labels online. Get your label 400s today!

anyone know what other purposes these labels are used for?
it almost feels smart to start asking my vendor not to use these labels. being that they are so rare.

These are not rare. They are used all the time by Post Offices but usualy affixed to the package by the person at the counter and scanned into the system right then. The only difference is these will not be scanned into the system until they hit the nearest sorting center.
