Title: Scale issues... maybe
Post by: pinto43 on September 21, 2013, 12:07 am
I just bought a scale and i calibrated it using a 16.9 OZ. watter bottle. Each 16.9 OZ watter bottle is 500 grams and it meassures that just fine. i even looked up how much a piece of standard printing paper weighs and it weighs 4.5 grams. I meassures that just fine. but if i get something like canned food or anything else that says the Net Weight on it, it never matches the net weight.. I was just wondering if my scale is fucked up or if the net weight is normally off by plus or minus a gram than what it says

Products like that allowed margins of error... I wouldn't be using water bottles to try and calibrate my scales.  If it's this important to you, spend the $5-10 and buy a calibration weight set.

And...

Gross vs Net

Gross refers to the total and Net refers to the part of the total that really matters.  .....

So "Net" is just the weight of the stuff inside of the can, not the stuff + the can, that would be gross.
