Title: Fake name
Post by: mugwump on March 22, 2012, 12:00 am
Hi there everyone,

I'm still undecided on whether to use a fake name or not. I've read that generally that may not be as wise as it seems, and I do agree that such strategy may rise suspicions.
Anyway, I'm living in a house with a couple of other guys and I don't even have a contract with the landlord. In a way, I don't really exist.

With that in mind is pretty pointless to use a real name, given that I don't have t sign for anything, right?

If you already receive mail there under your real name it's probably better to use your real name. If you don't then I don't think it would make a difference if you used a fake name or your real name considering your name isn't tied to the house  Your best bet might be getting the house owners permission to use their name.

I still haven't received any mail, although people in the house know my name. My name is tied to the house but not in a official way (I never signed anything), although I made a verbal arrangement with the owner.

I studied the mail delivery patterns and I am almost at home every time it gets delivered. My plan is to check the mail after the postman does his thing and see if I got lucky.

Anyway, sometimes I get the feeling that I'm being too paranoid. I don't even plan to buy large quantities. I guess that it would be quite strange if someone got fucked over a gram of molly in SR (with no past record, etc.

If you live in a densely populated area, I really don't see an advantage in using your real name, but there is a major advantage in not using it. Consider this, a 'mail man' turns up at your door asking you to sign for a package, how are you going to deny it if your name is on it? Going to be much harder to explain than, 'no one with that name lives here, it must be incorrectly addressed, bye'. LE are going to put a lot of pressure on you to accept a controlled delivery, and it's an event you should have a plan for.

There's no way I'm going to sign for a package, indeed.

There is still an awful lot of debate on this subject but precious few facts.
Has anybody received a controlled delivery as a result of SR yet?

I don't think so.

If you sign for a package is that an admission of ownership?

Again I doubt it, I would sign for anything that came to my door just to see what was in the parcel that i have been sent.

Fine, so long as you send a test letter to yourself to establish that they aren't redirecting their mail to their new address/you're still receiving their mail. To reiterate though, if you live in a densely populated area (i.e. your postman doesn't know you personally) I don't see much point in doing this, a non-obvious fake name isn't going to flag any mail, if it does your mail was going to be intercepted regardless.

I would imagine there have been.

It is essentially signing their warrant, if they then find any corroborating evidence you would be charged. Or they will hope that you open it, which could also be enough to secure a conviction.
