Got a letter in the mail from customs today.
Was for 50 xanax I ordered a couple of months ago.
The seller resent, which I received weeks ago, so this letter must be for the original lot that I thought was lost.
The bit that concerns me is a section of the letter that says -
"On this occasion the Australian Customs and border Protection Service has made a decision not to take this matter further. However, the importation will be recorded and prosecution action is possible in the future if other prohibited imports addressed to you are intercepted by Customs and Border Protection".
Fuck.
Anyway, just a heads up for Aussies ordering from overseas.

I could be wrong, but isn't there some sort of special provision for pharmaceuticals? Like they are stricter or something? Pretty sure that's why people tend not to get Rx drugs into aus (though some do come through supposedly). I could be wrong though, hopefully it doesn't apply to all seizures. Still, they would still have to prove it was actually you who ordered the stuff. I mean anyone could send you a bunch of shitty badly packaged drugs as a way of getting you in trouble with LE, this would be too abusable.

first up, i'm a regular SR user but have created this new forum account as i don't know whether i want certain info linked to my other account.
anyway, same as the OP i received the same seizure notice from Australian Customs & Border Security due to them intercepting an order of "pharmaceutical" type medication.
they mention that on this occasion no action will be taken (nice of the pricks!) but the interception has been recorded (same as OP).
there is also a shitload of legal crap included in the notice and i must admit i probably became a bit arrogant over my success but i want to also warn other Aussies that there are different sections listed in relation to the type of drugs seized and 'pharms' are in a different (re: less serious) category than 'narcotic' drugs and it seems that the AFP could quite possibly be involved for interceptions containing these 'narcotic' drugs. In layman's terms that essentially means ANY illegal material not just prohibited material. they make this distinction quite clear in the literature.
after getting this 'surprise' i've done a little research and it seems it is not uncommon for them to let illegal drugs through if they believe they can establish a pattern of similar material being delivered in a suburb/region/area. the purpose being to build a case showing intention and not just a one-off 'mistake'.
atm, i have 2 other orders being sent to the same name/address and of course I don't expect them to arrive but luckily they are not illegal only prohibited but you can imagine the stress i'm feeling.
so like the OP i want to give a heads up to other Aussies who are being successful with illegal drugs as it is possible that they are collecting info and passing it to the feds. just don't become too complacent.
personally, i'm taking a break from SR and if I return I will be changing my whole modus operandi. i never want my real identity to be associated with illegal drugs.
i'd rather lose a little cash than my freedom!
peace guys!!

I wonder if it would be worth while to get the sender to take a couple of pictures of the package so the buyer can see if there has been any tampering by customs. Maybe I'm being naive though and customs/afp have a foolproof way to return it to original form.

i believe i may know at least one way to determine whether the parcel has been fiddled with. you may notice that there is no postmark covering the stamps. i have received a couple of orders where there was no postmark at all. this seems suspicious to me but is only a theory.
-
So you think they open and replace the packaging? That would be very easy for us to notice. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in on this theory.
-
I dont think it would be easy at all for us to notice unless we knew the senders methods and even then it could be replicated. But this would take resources and imo not worth it for anything in the personal use category.
But as for opening your mail and taking a sample and sending it on especially if they have seized product in the past.... in my humble opinion.. of course they do.
I have often thought that a pic of the packaging on 'bigger' orders would be a good idea. (hello paranoia ;D )
Thanks for the heads up Logboy and Zack, I too know of friends getting love letters for pharms, RC's , plants and seeds but know of no one getting them for narcotics, cannabis etc..... strange that.

I thought of this earlier while reading another thread, seems like a good idea, although I'm sure SR vendors would charge xtra for the service. and also packages have a tendency to look a little different after they're tossed acrossed the country..

To add my experience, i have had 5 packages not reach me out of many. for all of them except 1 i was asked to provide a manufacturers declaration stating origin, composition and end use. there was no nasty letter, just a query - each time i advised that i did not want the package, so i presume they destroyed it. perhaps they kept it on file. who knows.
ive gotta say that the frequency has ramped up in the past 6 months especially. im thinking with 5 packages stopped that i should go with a safer option and try to source locally.

can I ask if they were RC's and pharms? or other?
cheers

Yeah first post but i thought I'd share my experiences with shipping from the states. Whilst I haven't ordered Meds in i have on a number of times had prohibited items successfully received from the US. I have had three cases of of letters sent in place of items. Two where for blatant attempts (i.e sending back flick knives, taser/torch bought in the back streets of S.E Asia) and one was for importing a double edge blade. In all of these i have had the option of claiming the goods or if no reply was received then they were destroyed.
I have also successfully received a number of "naughty plant food" orders from the U.K. And they arrive as white powders in brown envelopes without much fanfare. In the later orders i was sterring clear of MCAT and others where there was legislation pending (as they were pretty actively looking for imports at the time.) I also had a couple of grams of Salvia sent from NZ without any issues (this getting through surprised even me!!)
The issue comes to ownership & them proving that you were aware they were being sent to you hence the need to claim ownership. Obviously a key of smack is going to be a little different but at the end of the day if it's not a substantial illegal shipment and/or clearly traceable transaction there is little they do.
For the record i have still had successful shipments IN THE SAME NAME to THE SAME ADDRESS of other items without any further inspections/problems. Whilst i believe in being intelligent i also don't believe on giving these fucks more credit than they deserve.
Good luck to all those importing, Fuck the Nanny State.

while this gives me a glimmer of hope for my outstanding orders i must admit this seems ridiculous from customs point of view.
i mean in this day and age i would have assumed that they would simply add the name/address of the recipient into some sort of database and then any mail matching would be automatically pulled aside for closer inspection. surely there is no way they could be doing all this manually?
i guess we really don't know how things work over there.
btw, if there are any school aged kids who feel like doing their work experience over at customs we could sure use some inside info. :)

Who is feeding the database with the name/address of every single letter/envelope entering the country through customs to match it with that of the subject under investigation?
:o

If they do let slip a few packages, then they must prove you received it, right?
That is when the "don't sign anything" rule is of paramount importance.

the automated sorting machines? as I said 'in this day and age' meaning that i can't believe each piece of mail is manually sorted for its final destination. the mail has to be sorted somewhere along the line. who or what decides whether a specific letter is going to Brisbane or to Melbourne?
mate, i don't know i'm just saying that if i was running the customs service i would be using any and all technology to help stop prohibited imports.

But if they get a pattern of drugs being delivered to that address, and they get a warrant because that pattern is significant and they find a crumb of weed under the couch they will try to pin it all on someone at that address. "we found drugs at this house, your honor AND we have intercepted 10 packages sent to same address using fake names".....
It will be even better if they pin it on somebody at that address that is innocent so the real perp will hopefully confess. ie Mum or GF.
Drugs being sent to an address and drugs at the same address is very bad. ;)
