Title: Walkthrough
Post by: Dankasaurus on September 25, 2013, 12:03 am
So I've been able to piece together random things and how to do them on here, but I don't feel comfortable at all with it. Would someone be willing to PM with me so I don't feel annoying on this forum? And so I don't have to post for days to find answers? I would really appreciate it! :D

I kinda have the encrypt/decrypt down, and the basic idea of how to do things. Basically worried about where to get BTC and the best way to do so. Like I see people talk a lot about going to the bank and filling something out for them but I haven't understood what they're doing there. Like what's the best way to get BTC? And what "Wallets" to use? It's like I have read enough about it all, but it's all still jumbled up and I don't know where to begin. I downloaded "Electrum" which is a desktop wallet I guess, and also downloaded "gpg4usb". Also, is a special email necessary? One like tormail that doesn't release info? I found a Russian one "mail.day.az" that I want to sign up for, but I still don't know the purpose for making an email like that either, I just have read a lot about them. I know I'm all over the place in this post, but that's exactly why I'm calling out to you guys haha. Help sort me out please :D

You might as well just get your post count up while you're at it.

Just start reading up on threads/stuff... then ask questions accordingly

As a buyer... you can get by without an email or wallet.

Here comes a question then...how do I get by without a wallet or email? Explain that process please?

To oversimplify:

You need bitcoins...  Buy them anonymously, send them to your SR account which has a wallet in it.
localbitcoins.com

PGP your address and put it in the box that asks for address when you order.

I know I need Bitcoins, but how do I buy them anon? And isn't transferring them STRAIGHT to your SR wallet super sketchy? I read that you're supposed to move them through multiple other wallets before going into your SR wallet.

And Cryng, I don't know about the email thing, I've actually done a shit ton of reading on here and they don't fully answer what I need to know/how to do it. Or maybe I'm just trying to make this too hard? I don't know.

There are many ways to buy them anonymously... too many ways to describe here.  Start with Localbitcoins.com... meet in person.  Use the site through tor, dont use your phone or real email with that localbitcoin account.

If bought anon you can transfer them direct to SR.  If not, use bitcoinfog

I just always recommend Fog since I remember Astor talking about blockchain's mixer:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=210202.msg1518774#msg1518774
I haven't used that service in a long time, so it may have changed, but the way blockchain.info used to "anonymize" bitcoins was way too vulnerable to traffic analysis. First, they charged a flat fee of 1.5% (which I believe was reduced to 0.5%), and when you sent the coins to your anonymous address, the fee would be subtracted, and the rest would be deposited to your real bitcoin address in exactly two transactions, within about 10 minutes. So if someone identifies your SR address as belonging to SR and they see the deposit came from another address, which they suspect belongs to blockchain.info, because the coins in that address came from two transactions a few minutes apart, then they merely have to look in the block chain for a transaction that occurred about 10 minutes earlier and involved exactly 1.5% (or 0.5%) more BTC. Now they are on the other side of the mixer and they can follow the transaction chain back to the exchange and your identity.

There are much better mixing services that give you more options for how you deposit and withdraw your coins, along with charging variable rate fees, to defend against that kind of traffic analysis.

So I definitely DON'T want to do that in person. Needs to be done online only, now what's the best way to get BTC?

Do what in person?... meet with your btc seller?  You just set a time and place, show the money, he gives you the code to verify he released the coin, give him the cash, leave.  It's no big deal.

You can do a bank deposit instead.

You'll find both kinds of these sellers on localbitcoins.

Like I said,  you need to read up on shit... you shouldn't just trust some random person anyhow.  I may think this is the best way, yet someone else may think another way... it's up to you to read both sides and decide, it's your ass on the line.

You arrange deal with seller, he puts coin into escrow.

You walk in the bank that the seller has an account with,  you ask for an out of state deposit slip... you fill it out, go to the teller and hand her money + slip, you leave.

The release of the btc from escrow is handled differently for each seller.... some may want to wait for it to show up on their account, others may just want a picture of the receipt, or others ?.  This is why you have to shop around for a seller that fits you.

I personally prefer to meet a seller in person...

I see...I actually found a BTC seller in my area so I might go that route! Localbitcoins is safe to use through the Clearweb right? And your regular email?

@jimmyv That also sounds like a good plan too, I will look into that as well! :D

Why go through the clearnet?

If you go through the clearweb... you will be sending your coin from some place your IP is connected to (localbitcoin).   Not good.

Regular email?... like as in your email you use for work with your entire real name in it?  In that case, no.  Not good.  If you need an email, set one up through tor, and only access it through tor.  Do not associate this email with your real life, do not use the same UN and PW's.  Do not connect it to your Facebook etc.

Well it says you need an email to sign up for Localbitcoins, so I should just sign up with tormail then? And always do Localbitcoins on Tor?

Tormail was part of the Freedomhosting FBI site takeover that could've injected shit into your computer to reveal your IP... use something else.  Anything but that... even a hotmail account or whatever accessed solely through tor imo.

Yes, always access your SR connected accounts through tor.
