I'm using the Tor Browser Bundle 1.3.24 which I got in June 2011 (I guess it came out April 30, 2011). It includes Firefox 3.6.17 and Vidalia 0.2.12 with Tor 0.2.1.30.
I was getting notices that Tor was out of date so I downloaded a new Tor Browser Bundle to upgrade, but I didn't like the newer Firefox that comes with it (Aurora actually, and older bundles don't appear to be available for download).
I like Firefox 3.6.17, and many extensions I use work with it but not newer versions of FF.
Could I just install a newer Vidalia bundle where my Tor Browser Bundle is located?
Or could I just replace the tor.exe with a newer one?

You should just download the Tor Browser Bundle and get used to Aurora. The Tor Project has decided to discontinue the "plain" Vidalia Bundle and is no longer recommending it for client usage: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/plain-vidalia-bundles-be-discontinued-dont-panic

It's important to be using the newest versions of everything anyway because most updates are fixes to security holes and exploits. I'd recommend updating immediately at every opportunity - it's the best way to keep yourself safe from known exploits.

...and try forget about using the fancy plugins you installed before, get used to not using them as they could potentially expose your location / details, reasons are
they might not guarantee your anonymity or minimal reasons to keep to real basics, either you take the Tor advise or take a chance and try add your plugins which
you might find difficult to add to aurora or botch it with firefox.....etc etc
