I think the easiest thing you could do to ensure that you're completely secure (I'm assuming you're not talking about pgp encryption) is to download 'Tails' (just google Tails - tor).

You then need to burn the image (iso) to a cd (you can google how to do this too), and boot from the cd. Then shabang - you're operating on Tor without any majoor setup hassles, and because it's a live cd, there's no traces left on your hard drive.

If you're talking about message encryption (PGP), go to a website called 'igolder' - they have a bunch of webapps on there that make it as easy as hell. Good luck!

Hi wilsonm,
some project eh? :-) Step by step it is and mind bending as you say.  I'm currently taking the TrueCrypt and GPG route based on advice I've read here. Just starting to get my head around some of it. Good luck. :-)
Kind regards,
woolywinkle.

Thanks man, I think you just saved me about a days worth of research, just one question.  Is it better to burn it to .iso or is there a way to flash it on USB and boot that way, (assuming my BIOS  has that option which I have to check but I think it does).....

Secondly, do I visit google from tor to download this or do it on the clearweb through IE?  Ever since I started this like a week ago I
a)NEVER have tor and IE open at the same time
b)never want to use IE unless to look at gmail or google news....

GAH.....so much to learn...thanks for your help man

USB is fine and probably an easier option than burning and using a CD.

You don't have to download TAILS over Tor (doing so would be painfully slow anyways), and you don't necessarily have to stay away from IE when using the Tor Browser Bundle (as long as you make sure to keep Tor-browsing to TBB and non-Tor browsing to IE, there is nothing that can link the two).
