Title: "Finalize" button explanation
Post by: mu on October 22, 2011, 11:07 pm
Hey,

I'm a newbie here and recently got scammed out of an order. I read the buyer's guide twice and three times and somehow didn't realize what the big finalize button on the order section meant. And honestly, there is no explanation on that page, other than the fact that it is, indeed, final.

Anyways, being the fool I clicked finalize thinking I needed to do that before the seller shipped anything. It was very confusing and if I had known that that was going to prevent me from being scammed (if I hadn't released funds, I would've been able to recover after this seller was fingered to be a known scammer). Maybe I'm the only one that has ever done this, but I still think that perhaps some extra information could be put in that big white area on the page, something to the effect that it is not smart to finalize early, et cetera. It might prevent some scams, as I understand it?

on the shopping cart screen, it says ATTENTION: If you finalize early or pay your seller directly, you do so at your OWN risk
also on the orders screen it says once you finalize, it cannot be undone. I feel bad that you were scammed, but what your asking for is already there, you just have to read it, and Silk Road can't make you read it

You can still give them a bad rating if your product doesn't actually show up.  If the vender is at all respectable they will do whatever it takes to earn that 5.
