Title: scammers using accounts like BURNER PHONES
Post by: morphineman on January 04, 2013, 01:36 am
This affects everyone on sr, if you dont think it does affect you think again. buyers pay more and more to cover the costs that vendors loose due to scamming. vendors need to change thire business modle ie add fe because they have to  cover their ass from the scam. or increase prices to cover the scam costs. sr well you have to waste your time on trying to  investigate this . so now that we know it matters to everyone. we need to stop it. these so called scammers, someone who tries to get their products for free and even get refunds for it. they set up accounts yes several, some build up thir stats then scam and others can scam from the first order. yes you veteran vendors who think you know it all and it cant happen to you, well just wait it will, its going to happen to everyone of us. and it wont stop till we do something about it.
Their has been talk about making  customers pay 1-2 btc to get an account. i say that will do nothing. a person could set up an account in minutes, start with vendor #1 and start to order , Skipp the guys who ask for fe, go to next. if you live in Canada its much easier to do a scam, as we do not have tracking on regular letter mail, so small orders vendors may use this method thinking its not worth using express/priority or even expedited parcel. then the customer says order never was sent because vendor can not prove as their is no tracking. More and more vendors are requiring fe till a customer can prove to them that they will not  scam. I have herd of talk of a new 50 up front situation, where customer pays 50% upfront and 50% upon finalization. This may work in the short time but then scammers will realize they can pay 50% and not pay the rest.
sr has set up this system of escrow, which on paper works great. but when sr gives a refund to a clear scam written documented ,with threats of both harm and bodily, not to mention the defamation of character .they we cant rely on the SYSTEM TO WORK .
We as a community need to work together to rid this scamming.

why don't we start by making a thread on scamming buyers in the public forum? There are threads for scamming vendors...

I agree that there is a problem regarding the abuse of the escrow system, however the solutions you are suggesting are largely unworkable.  Charging per buyer account would be a good idea if, like vendor accounts, buyers could expect to have the money returned to them after a set period of successful trades.  The 50/50 idea would work much better, but you have pointed out its flaws yourself.  In the end, these problems are inherent to an anonymous marketplace, finding a solution that works for both buyers and sellers is quite difficult.

as with any store; honest buyers compensate for loses by scammers... as for the inflated prices, I have to disagree; you get doormat service, low risk and you might be forgetting losses each vendor has, fees to SR, fees to exchange coins to cash to buy product and inventory. Quality varies but you have a broad choice. I know for a fact there are several vendors with excellent quality products.

Ok let start a official scamming buyer thread. This thread needs to modded by someone.
Also you can't put every buyer in there that claims not to have received their package.
You can not use this as leverage to blackmail customers in to being blacklisted. And this is by no means a replacement of the resolution center.
we all know there is a certain % of losses in the mail. Usually you can pick scammers out by their messages.
I've seen messages from respected vendors being blackmailed; these qualify!
So if someone can start the post clearly explaining the rules and the idea that would be great (would be even nicer if a mod wants to sticky it).
If we use this right it's a good tool preventing buyer scamms and keeping prices from skyrocketing.
I would start the thread but i'm the new guy so it's better if someone else (with cred) does it.

I bet some of the Topix vets are on here scamming for free samples. Fucking sample whore junkies.
Oh and Lonewolf, if your on SR, deeznutz. Bottom line, there's risk on both ends... buyer stats are there for a reason
and so is the vendor feedback. Look at the big picture, SR is doing millions of dollars of business a year, that means vendors are
making millions and buyers are willing to pay for the convenience of anonymity and acquiring a product they might not be able to find in bumfuck Montana.
Don't let a few rotten apples spoil your experience... Yes I've been blackmailed by vendors, yes I've been blackmailed by buyers...
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Weight the risk to reward and from a vendor and buyers perspective, I'd rather wait for my cash
then risk the chance of getting arrested by an undercover or get in a shootout with a junkie. As a buyer I'd rather pay a few dollars extra than have to deal
with certain people, as a dealer I don't do refunds if it's a hand to hand... There's pro's and con's, but guess what, we're able to acquire/sell anything we could get our hands on.
Long live selling drugs for bitcoins, to the people who are crying both vendors and buyers alike, remember who you're dealing with. You are selling drugs to people
that do drugs (no offense to those in denial), the 90 day Supermarket refund just doesn't work in this game, either does the customer is always right policy.
