Title: Blue Screen Crash
Post by: Acidalexx on June 28, 2012, 02:20 am
Does anyone else have a problem when starting tor browser? First Vidalia Control Panel pops up and starts to load then, suddenly the computer freezes or a blue screen comes up. Any solutions to this problem?

In the I.T. world we call that a blue screen of death. It may be caused by conflicting software. Try clearing out your start-up and unused unneeded services.

WindowsKey + R
In the run dialog box type msconfig and hit run.
That will open Microsoft Configuration Utility.
Click the start-up tab and then click Disable all.
Next go to the services tab and click to hide all microsoft services.
Remove everything but your antivirus.
Click OK and reboot the computer.

See if that help any.

Yes, there are some versions of Kaspersky which don't work with the latest Tor browser bundle.

You need to remove Kaspersky and everything will work fine again. Use a better Anti-virus such as Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

While I'm personally not a fan of Avast, I agree about MSE. And when you've caught something anyway (highly unlikely), use a good single-executable scanner such as ComboFix.
