Title: Vendor fee adjustment
Post by: eJ3k1 on July 05, 2012, 04:04 pm
Recently fees for becoming a seller were introduced. The price for becoming a merchant on the Silk Road is now $150 and at the armory $50.

I'd like to see this system adjusted a little bit. There is some consensus in the community that there should be a one time fee on becoming a drug seller, and $150 is deemed reasonable for that.

However, Silkroad has more categories than drugs. I think that these high fees make it very unfeasible to start selling other lower priced products, especially digital goods (books and porn site rips), but also apparel, art, drug related supplies, etc. There are still vendors who offer these items, but they're still around from the time in which there was no fee.

I'd like to see a change in the fee system, so that vendors of those other items get a chance to start a small business too.

For Silk Road I propose two classes of sellers:
Class A seller, fee: $150, full access to all sections of the market, including Drugs (same as now)
Class B seller, fee $20, access to all sections except Drugs

For the Armory I'd like to see a change too. I would like it to be $20 for now, just as a class B seller on SR.

The reason for this is the fact that the armory is so young. There are very few sellers, and it's hard to judge the demand.

I would like to see a lot more listings in the armory containing: switchblades, pepper spray, electroshockers, brass knuckles, balisongs, etc. The problem with those products is that it's hard to judge the size of the demand. Unlike drugs (which are illegal and in demand almost everywhere), melee/non-lethal weapons are legal in some countries and states, but illegal in others. Especially for those places, a service like the Armory is very nice.

Please lower the threshold of becoming an armory seller a bit, so that sellers can test the waters a bit. Find out which products will sell well.
