Title: TrueCrypt breakdown
Post by: TreyWingo104 on April 16, 2012, 05:12 am
Hi,

Ive tried reading their walkthrough and it just confused things for the most part.   I'm using Vista based PC....With goal of setting up Liberte distro on USB thumb .

questions are the following.

1)Should I encrypt my entire HD first.....

2)Basically in what order do I encrypt things and set up volumes?.....I want to do all of this while my comp. is not connected to the internet whatsoever.

3)How do i set the decoy up.....?

4) how much free space will i need on my computers Hardrive to do everything, at present I only have like 1.5GB?

ANY HELP is MUCH APPRECIATED

Thanks for the link, I will open it and check it out again outside of TOR..

Anyway I think I understand the concepts of the different options you have, but I want to encrypt the whole drive and the hidden/decoy option as well, and then set the USB up separately so that if Liberte leaks something to RAM or something is logged in Vistas shit its still cased in....however, when i go to select the option create hidden OS I get an error message about how the OS isn't installed on the initial partion (the boot partion).  This part makes sense to me since Vista is installed on the C drive....but how would I set this up then?

Also, it doesnt show the C drive as a volume/partion in the main menu.  Sorry for my blatant n00bism here but again, would appreciate it so much if you can help.  Fuck it, if you walk me through it well here Ill throw ya a BTC ;)

Might need some clarification first before anyone can help.

1.) You have a computer with a C drive that has Vista as the boot OS. Then have a decoy/hidden OS inside of the Vista boot drive?
2.) Or you want to encrypt your USB drive, and install two versions of Liberte, one the decoy and the other hidden?

If you want to do a full hard drive encrypt on your Vista boot drive, you'd have to do it from within Vista. You can use this as a walkthrough guide: http://www.randyjensenonline.com/blog/using-truecrypt-to-encrypt-your-entire-hard-drive

Then if you wanted to create a hidden operating system..: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=hidden-operating-system

There are lots of pros and cons to using a hidden operating system, most of them are explained in the last link.

When you explain what you want to do, be as extremely descriptive as you can be. Spell everything out that you want to do so that I don't have the fill the blanks! :)
