Title: shipping questions
Post by: budpuck3t on April 23, 2012, 11:14 pm
alright guys i have a few ideas about receiving a shipment, i will try to explain them in an understandable but still vague way

i live in an apartment complex with a high turnover rate. i have gone through several roommates during my stay here, and occasionally still get their mail sent to the address. i still also receive mail from people that lived here before i even moved in on a fairly regular basis. mostly junk mail but ocassionally credit card offers and stuff like that.

there are central mailboxes that i would have to leave my place to access, they are the standard urban-sized mailboxes and can probably fit a smallish package, but nothing too big.

assuming my package would be sent directly to the mailbox and not the kind where you have to sign for it (i intend to verify this with the vendor before purchasing), would it be smart to order a package in the names of the people that no longer live here? and if it does end up getting delivered personally and they ask for a signature, can my roommate sign for it? also if this happens does this automatically mean a controlled delivery is going on?

finally, some of the names are quite foreign sounding and might raise suspicion at the post office, while others are domestic-flair. would a foreign-sounding name be enough cause for them to investigate? thanks

Others have posted similar questions regarding previous residents.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I personally would just use my own name. If you do get caught, LE probably doesn't care who's name is on the package. They'll search you, and you'd be fucked if you had anything. If you didn't, they would go away. So it doesn't matter who's name it is I think, but I would advise using your own because it'd increase the chances of your pack actually getting to you.

And about the controlled deliveries, if a vendor tells you no signing is required, it isn't required. There are some bizarre cases where USPS wants you to sign even though nothing really happened, but those are rare. If you're asked to sign for something you shouldn't be, PLEASE DO NOT.
