So I just got a slip of paper in my mailbox asking me to pick up my package at the nearest Post Office. I've never had to sign for package before and I'm wondering if this is normal or not.
I've done over 20 transactions on SR and haven't had to sign even once. Usually I buy within Canada or the US so maybe that's the reason? Anyways I'm pretty sure it was shipped from Mexico(undeclared) it is an oz of bud and it is super compressed so its not like it wouldn't fit in the mailbox.
The vendor is sorta new but I highly doubt he would choose signature required when he shipped it.
Or maybe the mailmen are supposed to collect some additional shipping/customs charges?
Anyways should I go pick up my package or it just not worth it?
Thanks in advance
-
No way man. I'm new to SR but not to the business. Dont go pick up that package its only a zip. if it was your first time buying from the mexican vendor maybe he slipped and the post office know whats inside and wants to put a face to the package i dont know for sure i'm no expert but i wouldn't risk it over a zone.
-
No! That is a big red flag. First I would contact the vendor and find out if they sent it signature confirmation. I would think it would be harder to convict someone if a package is just dropped off. If you sign you are acknowledging it is your package. If the vendor did send it signed confirmation then you might want to tell him not to do this because it can cause a lot of problems. Mostly problems for you. First find out if he did then let us know. There are ways vendors such as myself get around this without putting buyers in jeopardy.
-
Thanks for the reply's I did contact the seller so hopefully he can help me.
Seller responded with this:
"All mail other than that which just uses a stamp (and takes 30 days to arrive) requires a signature for delivery. It's standard here. I've asked the post office if it's possible to not require a signature but they said it wasn't."
Now I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to do. No where on his profile page is this stated otherwise I wouldn't have ordered.
-
I wouldn't buy from him again, nor any Mexican vendor for that matter if its standard there. I would get this to someone higher up the chain since he doesn't put this anywhere on his page. This could cause a lot of problems for anyone buying from him.
-
I shouldn't say this but I just checked and there was nothing I could find that states it must have a signed confirmation. It only stated it was optional but this also depends on the delivery method. I checked several. I couldn't find any that said it would take more than 14 days either. I looked for shipment time from Mexico city to Denver. Most were 10 days or less. I'm not trying to stress you. I'm only trying to help. It sounds fishy to me. Anyone else ever get shipments from Mexico that required this?
-
So if I do decide not to pick it up should I ask the seller for a refund or what? On his page it says no refunds so I'm not sure what I'll do.
If your going to ship with signature required you should probably put that in your vendor page right?
He has like 10 5/5 feedback so I guess there are people out there signing for his packages.
-
I personally would go ahead and get the package so it doesnt look weird. It may be a coincidence. Just pretend you didn't know about it just in case. Then do not open it until you get home or where ever you feel is safe. Next time ask if they ship with signature confirmation and let them know you are not comfortable with it. I hope everything goes as planned. Good Luck I hope it is the best product you've ever had.

I'd like to add one more thing. The guy has good ratings from what you say and with that being said he seems to know how to package and ship stuff. Please let us know how it goes.

Those deliveries that make you sign do so because some dude could just be walking down the street, see a pickup notice stuck to someone's front door, take it and go into the post office and pickup someone else's mail. It would be the biggest security failure of any mail distribution network to just work on the 'trust' system.
Damn RxKing was right when he told me these forums are bat shit paranoid people who are probably tweaking out on drugs as they write their posts. Drove him so mad he stepped down as a moderator and rarely if ever even post's on these forums anymore, and i'm starting to see why. This used to be a good place, until it gained publicity through gawker and other media outlet's, and then all the crazies came out of the woodwork signing up here. Fuck it was so much the site was down for over a week because of the number of new user's coming here.
You can't simply put the ban hammer down ubiquitously on the principle of signing for a package. If any LE is after you, they have a plethora of other means to do so. If you're some small time buyer receiving a small order, they don't have the time, nor the resources to track down and run a controlled delivery operation on you. There are so many statutes and controls they need to follow that it takes hours and hours of man power to fill out the appropriate auditing paperwork on any premeditated operation. And we all know how much cops hate filling out paperwork anyways.
There are fucking thousands of e-bay and amazon packages being delivered everyday, and most people are at work 9-5 and unable to be there to receive the package in person, so USPS can't just leave every single package they deliver on your doorstep without being liable for the loss of that package if that were to happen (which could happen very easily with ppl just taking the notice off your door and going to the post office claiming it's their package. Imagine how much someone with criminal intent would fuck up the liability that postal delivery agencies adhere to). They'd be sued by so many people that the company would quickly have to liquidate any asset's they have, and the entire postal industry would collapse.
We don't live in the early 1900s anymore guy's, it ain't the good ol' day's and there are many people who would go to great lengths to scam/con/steal/manipulate for their own monetary gain. Signing for a package simply acknowledges that you are absolving the liability the postal company has for that delivery.
LEOs are out to get the big guys, you know people trying to smuggle keys of MDMA into the country, not some average Joe whose trying to get an eighth of weed or 10 MDMA tab's in the mail. They simply don't have the resources or the man power to do so. So unless they have a case being built against you under the suspicion you're having large quantities of drugs mailed to you. they're not going to go through that time and effort. Besides, there are a hundred other much simpler and less time consuming way's for LEOs to convince a judge to convict on the charge of smuggling contraband/narcotics into the Country then setting up an elaborate and paperwork/audit heavy signatory based controlled delivery on you.

Lol yeah I know LE probably isnt interested in a small time bud smoker but unfortunately the packages don`t get shipped to my house but to my friends. He obviously doesnt want to go to jail (been there before) and I cant sign for the package myself so...
-
Does he know that you are doing this to him (having your drugs sent to his residence instead of manning up)?

Uh yeah he does way more drugs than me, I unfortunately live with my parents while he does not.
Ironically I`m more afraid of my step-dad throwing out my weed than getting arrested.
And they probably wouldn`t appreciate me ordering drugs to their house anyways.
Even though they let me smoke weed in their house (all day).

I hate to say it but quinone is right. Their not going to go after you. They dont want the small fish and even if they did bust you how in the hell would they even be able to go after your "Dealer". How could they build a case your seller technically doesnt even exist. I retract my previous statements. Go get your package with the door slip. I just talked to a family member that works for usps. He said that it is highly unlikely they want to bust you. LE doesn't really have the resources to bust the small fish. They'de be wasting time and money they do not have in this economy.

It's about time someone wrote a post like this! I fully agree with you on all of it.
Most international shipments require a signature on delivery (especially registered mail)...this is standard and it's nothing to be freaked out about. I've signed for many international packages and have had no problem...and I've been ordered illegal pharms from overseas for years; infact I just signed for a registered mail letter from Thailand that was carrying drugs the other day.
Yes it's good to be careful and watch what you do but it's also good to do your own research and use common sense. Unless you're ordering kilos of cocaine and it's requiring a signature then I wouldn't get to freaked out about it.
Many of these shipping questions and which shipping methods that require a signature can easily be googled and if you're worried about signing for a package then make sure you message a vendor BEFORE you put in the order.
