Post by: neuronirvana on August 06, 2013, 02:45 pm
Hi guys

I just found out I cant set up a tormail account. I want to set up an account on localbitcoin . Would it be possible to do it with another email adress than tor?

You can setup an email account at like lavabit or inbox.com but the thing is they all require scripts to be enabled in your browser, This is a problem for anonymity because enabling scripts can leak your IP, You could however just use another connection like public wifi hotspot and register the account there.

ok, so I set up an account with safe mail, created an account with localbitcoin and it seems to work all fine . Anyone has any suggestions about safety here? I access both websites through tor browser

When you enabled scripts to sign up for the email account did you use another internet connection? If not they might have your real IP.

If you must enabled scripts to do something always use someone elses IP just in case.

Be super paranoid, It's the only way to survive in this game.

I dont know, nothing appeared on the screen . How to check if I enabled scripts? The safe mail site is very simple. Nothing I accepted from the site. That is what the website states :
Safe-mail is the most secure, easy to use communication system. It includes encrypted mail system with collaboration features and document storage functions. Always accessible at any time from anywhere!
3 Mb space is free. More space and functionality is supplied under Premium Packages. There are no advertisements, downloads or cookies. Safe-mail supports most hardware platforms and any operating system. Includes file storage, spam filters and anti virus protection. Full compatibility with most browsers, email clients and all relevant protocols including POP, SMTP, IMAP, S/MIME and PKI.

Ok, so I checked the ip adress from which the safe mail account was created and it was tor ip adress. Success I think :) I blocked all the scripts as well

This is pretty basic stuff, If you can't even figure out how to disable scripts in your browser you will be an easy target for the FBI.

safe-mail.net has an interface that doesn't require any scripts so it's a good choice, to turn off scripts, click on the S next to the torbutton and click on forbid scripts globally.

Riseup.net is also a good choice but it's not that easy to get an account there.

Nice. I just created an account there, They have a nice feature where you can log in without using scripts.

I would say as long as their server is reliable safe-mail.net looks like a promising replacement for tormail.

It's easy as fuck, just talk about how much you hate capitalism and how you got all your friends to use PGP and other encryption protocols for all their messages.

Keep in mind that it's highly likely to be a honeypot, hosted in the US, and has had servers previously seized by the FBI.

If PGP is still secure then even if it is a honeypot the feds still couldn't decrypt your messages.

This is kinda tricky to get setup, but it's very secure. I recommend using a nymserver: http://www.iusmentis.com/technology/remailers/nym.html

Yeah but you may as well use yahoo if riseup is supposedly a honeypot. Safe-mail supposedly doesn't collaborate with governments which makes it pretty good... It's better to avoid sites that aren't honeypots or that don't give out all your data even if you use PGP.
You can also use mail.i2p, it's pretty secure (you need I2P to access it), messages are encrypted end-to-end IIRC. A nymserver seems good too, like acidicmuzzling said.

Not really familiar with i2p, I have heard of it though.

Is there a way to access i2p mail from Tor?

I would imagine that most email providers are honey pots or at least will hand over information if the government puts enough pressure on them, Safe mail seems like the best at the moment though because you can use it without scripts.

I think you can use i2p.to to create your account but there isn't any webmail except for the one in i2p itself which is more of an app.. Even if using something like thunderbird I don't think you could use i2pmail without downloading i2p, or it would be a lot harder to configure which would make it easier to just download i2p :P You can use tor->i2p if you use i2p in whonix though, if you're concerned about i2p's security..

Safe-mail is good too because of the option to use an interface without scripts. Secure-mail.biz also seems pretty good, whonix's developer has a secure-mail.biz address so it shouldn't be that bad.

@VinnieJones : You can't use gmail or hotmail without scripts so it's not too good over tor.
