Title: What color and icon should the Site Identity Button be when logging in to SR?
Post by: neo67 on August 10, 2013, 05:25 pm
Ok guys really need your help on this one.

What color and icon should the Site Identity button be(the one to the left of the address bar)?

It says this on a firefox help page, about my  SIB icon and colour (which is a gray globe when i try to log into SR)

"Gray globe

A gray globe indicates:

The website does not supply identity information.
The connection between Firefox and the website is not encrypted or only partially encrypted and should not be considered safe against eavesdropping.

Most websites will have the gray globe, because they don't involve passing sensitive information back and forth and do not need to have verified identities or encrypted connections.

Note: If you are sending any sort of sensitive information (bank information, credit card data, Social Security Numbers, etc.) the Site Identity Button should not be a gray icon of any kind."

Is it safe to log in when this colored icon is displayed?

Thanks guys.

It's a .onion so it's definitely encrypted.

Oh thanks jack. Its just what firefox said blagged me a bit. I've never paid any attention really to the color or icon of the site identity button until i read the firefox document.

Is your button a gray globe then(on the log in page), same as mine?

Yes it is.  The browser does not realize that it is encrypted without https. :)
