Title: Using Mt Gox
Post by: raindrops on October 30, 2012, 10:37 pm
So like many others I'm sure, I'm confuzzled after bitinstant changed many of their deposit options. So, it looks like Mt. Gox is a good possibility to use instead of the now-unavailable straight to instawallet? How do you transfer bitcoin out of Mt Gox? Can you just send it to a wallet (or SR wallet) address? Also, do you have to have your account verified to transfer funds out of it?

Thanks!

For small amounts (< $1k maybe?) you don't need to verify - just register on clearnet, provide a TORMAIL or other anonymous E-Mail addy.  To transfer BTC out, go to FUNDING OPTIONS, WITHDRAW FUNDS.  It prompts for a BTC address and amount.  EasyPeasy.

Is a valid email address required to register?

mtgox's limit is you can not transfer more then 200 btc per 24 hours unless you verity your account with an id. that being said, you can transfer out 200btc and wait 24 hours and transfer out again.

Oh good, thanks Nunya. I was hoping it was that simple but their FAQ is kind of retarded and it was tough to tell. That makes sense.

Yes, there is a confirmation code.

Can you use a throwaway address for this? I'm concerned that Mt.Gox doesn't let you access their site via TOR.

A few months back there were notices on mt. gox that said accessing their site via tor would be grounds for terminating your account.

Thanks, but that doesn't answer my question about the email address, I'm just concerned about anonymity using Mt.Gox.

Mt. Gox will freeze your acount if you use tor or a public proxy, so if you want to be anonymous on tor, you'll need to use a public wifi location for a bit of anonymity. I wouldn't worry too much about it though- just use 2-3 fresh instawallet accounts on tor (never re-use wallets/BTC addresses if goal is anonymity) to transfer your funds through to the SR tumbler.

You can use a TORMAIL E-Mail addy however.  Just not TOR to access the web site.

When using BitInstant to MtGox, the first step is to fill out three boxes:
     Account #
     Amount (USD) to pay
     Notification email
How do you obtain an Account # for MtGox for this purpose (above)???  Blockchain's site made it obvious to generate a Bitcoin Address (used for account #) but it's unclear to me for MtGox.

Just sign up for a mt.gox account dude. After you do you'll be assigned an account #.

(1) can you create more than one account number for a given MtGox account?
(2) it sounds like the account # is already present once sign up(?); where is this number located once signed in?
sorry, I just cannot seem to find it

I'm not aware of how you could create more than one account number per account.

My account # is evident as soon as I log in. It appears at the top. next to "Open Orders" and your login name.

Is it a 6-digit number that just hangs up at the top?! The account # used for Blockchain are so much more complicated that I thought there's no way this little 6-digit number could be right. Have you confirmed it works with your #? (I'm scared to lose so much money on a silly mistake and 6 #s for an account seems suspiciously low for a wiretransfer)

Also, don't we need to know the city and state of where the moneygram will be sent to?

Third (I promise, this is it!), when filling it out in MtGox's site Funding Options-> Add Funds -> Funding Method: Cash Deposit via BitInstant what do you put for the USD box to send off/"Evaluate"? Is this the $amount you give the cashier e.g., $450 or do you need to calculate and put what it'd be after the %loss from BitInstant?

Dude you can't miss it . Yes it's a six digit number and it will look like this:

Account Number: XXXXXX

The six digits are clearly preceded by the "Account Number:" label specifying what it is. And yes, I've funded my account using my account number a number of times.

And don't start at the mt.gox site. Start at the bitinstant.com site to fund your account. Way easier that way and people have had problems trying to initiate bitinstant transfers from 3rd party sites.

Thanks for your help and patience. My screen resolution is so screwed up all I saw was two numbers at the top, and only after I copied/pasted to another spot I saw the full 6 numbers.

First post here...Just want to clarify some things as I've never done this before!

I plan on making a Mt. Gox account with a tormail e-mail address.  I will then purchase bitcoins ( <$300 worth ).  I then plan on sending those bitcoins to a wallet I have set up on btcfog.  I will then cycle those bitcoins through other wallets on btcfog.  I will then transfer the bitcoins left over from btcfog to my SR wallet.

My questions:  1)  will a tormail e-mail raise suspicion or should I just use a throwaway? (note that I know not to access mt gox via tor)

2) If 1 is true and I am flagged or something similar, can they discern if the wallet I send to is a btcfog wallet versus others?  The goal of btcfog as I understand is to make your bitcoins untraceable so maybe this would not be a problem anyway.

3)  I still need to brush up on my PGP knowledge and skills before I purchase, but if the above is a good plan for getting bitcoins, is there any issue with just going ahead and getting them into my SR account now?

Would definitely appreciate if you see any flaws in this plan or any other advice! Thanks

Looks like bitinstant.com is back to normal now so just send your cash directly to either your fogger or SR wallet.

I would be very cautious with mtgox, we were recently screwed by them. We tried to withdraw 4k from our mtgox acct with an international wire transfer and our money didn't hit our bank acct for 28 days! All the while i was getting the run around by cust ser. even lying to me about how it only takes 3 days to internationally wire money, that i must be mistaken! I'm not mistaken with FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS! If you are located in the US just use Campbx.com... Trust me.

Thank you all so much for posting!

I'm sure lots of people are very happy to get some good advice on bitcoin transactions, especially to those who are new.

I know how, but I also know new people who don't, so on their behalf, I appreciate it.

Thanks again.
