Title: onion vs onion.to
Post by: babyshiva999 on April 29, 2013, 04:26 pm
I've just realized that I've been using SR with .to extension via TBB. After reading some senior members posting warnings about this, how serious is it?

I've made a couple of orders - luckily I was using PGP to send info to vendors.

Should I be worried about this, am I compromised ? Do I need a new account?

This is a beware note to all of us noobs out there. I'd appreciate senior members answering my questions,

Much obliged,

Very serious.  If you don't make a new account, at least change your password.  The owners and system administrators of onion.to, the natinoal security agency and the exit node can see all of the data being transmitted, your username and your password.  I would also like to add that MANY exit nodes are owned by law enforcement agencies like the FBI.

I think the first thing you need to do if you haven't already is change your password.

Dunno how serious your own situation is, but I do know that your username and password will have been exposed on onion.to and only time will tell if someone has got that information.

If in doubt, start again.  8)

EDIT: Just read Jack N Hoff's post. I don't like the idea of the FBI having my account info, maybe you should just ditch that account. I heard a rumor that the FBI and ATF monitor this forum too. Up yours government agencies! Go catch some real criminals  :P

Many thanks guys ! I appreciate it. I'll change my password ASAP, as soon as sr is up.

Not sure about new username...Since I have already established a connection with some vendors. Is it that serious,, I mean should I really go for a new account and new username?

Much obliged,

I would suspect so. It sounds to me much more dangerous than using TBB on Debian. Others who are more proficient on this matter can confirm this, (or refute). But it's self evident to me.

Tor Orbot with the Orweb browser work quite well with Android. It's secure, but I understand it could be less secure should you log into, say, clearnet email while using Orbot. Of course this is the case when using Tor on any pc/mac.
