Title: Help configuring PGP
Post by: Duke on June 29, 2011, 11:56 am
Hi everyone,
Just trying to configure PGP and have become stuck.
I'm on a new mac and am not familiar with macs.
I have installed the GPG for mac program and have almost gotten to the end of setup.
How do I view the ASCII file in the keymat directory?

Im following the Robert Sosinski write up.

Its probably really simple but I'm not used to macs!!

Ive found out that typing ls shows a file called publickey.asc

Now I'm trying to send the key to a key server but this message keeps coming up

$ gpg --send-keys MY KEY NUMBER
gpg: no keyserver known (use option --keyserver)
gpg: keyserver send failed: Syntax error in URI

What am I doing wrong?

In Linux it is:

Code: [Select]
$ gpg --keyserver URI --send-key YOURKEY
should be the same in Mac.  At the moment you're doing the electronic equivalent of sending a letter without an address on the envelope.  Choose a public keyserver (GIYF) and substitute their server address for 'URI' in the command above (and, of course, your key number for 'YOURKEY').

DO NOT SEND YOUR KEY TO A KEYSERVER

Yeah - quite right!  My respectable work and personal keys are published, not my ones for 'other' uses ;)

So I forgot my password and tried to reset it but is seems like no emails are going to my email for some reason so now I have a new user name.

Thanks g4bb3r for telling me not to publish my key on a key server. I'm a little clueless!!! Ha!!

So how do I find my public key???

I have my key number ( something like A56774F5) and made it onto a ASCII file but don't know how to see it and make it available to other people on here.

Im at this step :

3. After a short wait, you should have a publickey.asc file in your keymat directory. Take a look at it.

-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----

you'll need to open the ascii file with your key in it,

or in a terminal:

cat filename.here.asc
