Title: New here
Post by: avocadofriend on May 18, 2013, 02:14 pm
Hello, I'm very new to SR, secure browsing, encryption, and even drugs to an extent. I have absolutely no connections for the things I want to try, and I'm bad at making them! So SR seems like the perfect solution for me. I'm only looking to buy small amounts for very occasional personal use, but I want to make sure I do it right from the beginning. Forgive my ignorance on these topics, I'm trying to learn, but there is so much info to take in!

- About bitcoins.. I was planning to use bitinstant to puchase btc through cash deposit, to a blockchain wallet, then transfer to SR wallet. Is this a good way to go? The part that makes me nervous is physically going in to deposit the money. I know some places might not ID, but is that common? Or is it safe enough to use my real ID just to purchase btc for a non SR wallet? I'd rather not, obviously.. but I'd also rather not go from place to place all day looking for somewhere that won't ID. I live in a small town kind of area, and there may not be many options.. have to look into it though.

- I'm just starting to learn encryption too.. but was wondering what the difference between a public and private key?

- About tormail.. I have an account, don't plan on using it very much, but was wondering if its totally safe to log in to with tor, or if there are any other steps I need to take. I just made the account and sign in with the "squirrel" webmail.. is it as simple as that?

- Annnd, lets see.. for secure browsing with tor, is it safer to use a public wifi spot or a home connection?

I'm sure there will be plenty more questions before I attempt to make a purchase.. Also, if you want to try sending me an encrypted message, I need the practice :)

Thanks guys

i make a cash deposit when i buy bitcoins. i do not have to show id or give my name. in the case they do ask you and you don't want to use fake identification, i wouldn't worry about it too much. its not a crime to purchase bitcoins. if you send your coins through your blockchain wallet to SR i think it becomes extremely hard to trace it back to you in the chance SR becomes compromised.

- I'm just starting to learn encryption too.. but was wondering what the difference between a public and private key?

public keys are used for encrypting messages. private keys are for decrypting. if i want to send you a message you would give me your public key. to decrypt my message you would use your private key.

- Annnd, lets see.. for secure browsing with tor, is it safer to use a public wifi spot or a home connection?

its probably safer to use a public wifi and cut any ties to an internet connection registered in your name

but i'm not an expert in this stuff so that everything i said with caution lol hopefully someone will correct me if i mislead you with something
