Title: US government has all our bitcoins
Post by: wuq7fath on October 04, 2013, 06:47 am
and the essential question is this: what EXACTLY can they do with them?
are BTC even legally classified as a currency according to the US?
are they just going to sit there forever and never be used?
will the US government exploit this theft of our hard-earned wealth (hundreds of millions in USD if i'm not mistaken???) and use it to manipulate the bitcoin market to their advantage?
who exactly in the government can "legally" (can't think of the perfect word right now, but you know what i mean) use these bitcoins?
can these bitcoins even be retrieved by the US government or are they simply stuck and inaccessible in cyberspace forever?

any geniuses here willing to answer these questions?

This is a brilliant thread, young buck! Great question. Now, normally, under U.S.C. Title 18, drugs/monies/weapons siezed are destroyed, are they not? CAN you destroy a bitcoin? Surely the govt will say they did....but i'm sure they're using them as they deem fit  ;)  Too bad...I wish they would destroy them...and make those in circulation more valuable.....

This obviously was a profitable raid :( Hence they will want to keep anti-drug laws in place.

Bringing this many BTC out of circulation will make the price rise IMO.
I think the Govt will just keep the BTC frozen for a very long time, if they ever sell them.
