Title: Using Bitinstant Via clearnet..
Post by: streetmagic on November 25, 2012, 08:28 pm
..to buy coins that will potentially be used on SR.

How bad of an idea is this?

Only reason I am asking is that I can't make the purchase via TOR, as they won't allow that or something. Every time I tried, as soon as I clicked cash deposit and it sent me to Zip Zap, the site would pop up and say "Sorry, we have a (exactly whatever amount I was sending) limit on transactions." Something along those lines, and I tried a few different amounts.

So I tried later to use Wifi at a starbucks on clearnet and got the same message.

What gives? How can I anonymously purchase bitcoins/use Bitinstant these days?

As far as I understand it, you pretty well need to use clearnet to buy bitcoin.  This is where mixing services like blockchain.info become handy.  Maintain a 'public' wallet that can be tied to your clearnet transactions and have a separate clean wallet on a different computer (maybe even on a different network) that you send your purchased bitcoins to via a mixer.  From there, there is theoretically no link between your bitcoins and your clearnet wallet/purchases.

Also, learn how to configure your bitcoin wallets to use TOR.
