Title: Estimated vendor fees
Post by: psil0 on July 31, 2013, 03:45 am
Hey everyone. I'm a few clicks away from becoming a vendor here but I'm a little hesitant after reading some of the posts regarding vendor fees and the lack of transparency associated with them.

On average, how much are you vendors paying in fees? If they're outstandingly high or fluctuate with volatility, I'd rather take my business local. :)

This is actually a good question. I would like to know to, can greatly affect the pricing of the product.

I swear the fees have jumped from what they were 3 or 4 months ago. Drastically!

DPR and the mods will never give you a straight answer. The wiki states fees are subject to change at any time, without notice. I dont remember exactly, but right now the lower end of fees are 10% for anything $50 or less, and caps out at like 2-4% up around $1000+ transactions.

Thanks for the answer.

I was not expecting the fees to be that significant especially considering the site encourages smaller transactions in an attempt to avoid law enforcement attention. It is a shame that the vendors -- the life-blood of this community -- must suffer such a loss.

Quote
Based on data from 3 February 2012 to until 24 July 2012, Christin (2013)[25] estimated $15 million in transactions are made annually on Silk Road,[26] 12 months later he said in an interview that a major increase in volume to "somewhere between $30 million and $45 million" would not surprise him.

3% of $2,000,000 is $60,000. Even if SR charged a flat 2-3% tax per sale, this site would remain online and those in the inner-circle would still make a nice profit. How much does a Tor secret node cost to operate per month?

So for something priced around $140 - $220, a vendor can expect to lose roughly 6-7% or 10%-11% w/ hedging?

Again -- thanks for the info.
