Title: Atlantis hikes commissions, takes pot shot at Silk Road for lack of transparency
Post by: CHROOT on August 12, 2013, 09:21 pm
Dear Atlanteans,

Today we've made some adjustments to our commission scheme. These adjustments have been made to cover growing costs, namely:

* Infrastructure expenses
* Security expenses
* Additional employees expenses
* Media expenses
* Software development expenses

All of the recent attention Atlantis has gained through the use of media reports and our advertising efforts has resulted in a large number of fresh customers and purchases for our vendors. We've noted an increase of a minimum of 3x the normal volume over the last couple of months due to these efforts alone.

Unfortunately though, we cannot do these things without funding, and with the growth of our user-base our technical infrastructure requires upgrades and improvements. These costs also go towards ensuring the security of all of you Atlantis users.

But do not fret, our commission is still severely under that of our main competitor. With the recent uproar over SR increasing their commission fees without notifying any of their vendors we are making it a priority that everyone is notified about this change. Transparency is our goal. That's why we're also publishing our fees for anyone to view.

Here is the SR commission structure for comparison. I couldn't get this from an official source because SR refuse to provide their vendors with their commissions table, however SR forum users running tests to determine their fee structure have reported this is correct:

SR structure:

$25 -> 10%
$75 -> 9.5%
$125 -> 9%
$225 -> 8%
$375 -> 7%
$500 -> 6.25%
$1000 -> 4.75%

New Atlantis structure:

less than or equal to $50 <- 7.5%
less than or equal to $150 <- 7%
less than or equal to $300 <- 6%
less than or equal to $500 <- 4.5%
less than or equal to $1000 <- 3.75%
greater than $1000 <- 2.75%

These increases will result in more customers for your shop and an increased level of functionality on the site (security, new features, stability and speed).

We've set them to a level that won't require adjustment for some time, so you shouldn't expect this structure to change soon, and as always you can expect full transparency and notification if something does change.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our support staff, or drop us a line on the forum.

Many regards,
Atlantis Administration
