Title: URL Shorteners - Any viable ones for the TOR Network?
Post by: Burning Babylon on October 05, 2013, 12:45 pm
Is anyone aware of a TOR-based URL Shortener Service similar to how sites like http://www.tinyurl.com and http://goog.ly work?

Not sure it's possible, given the fact that tor addresses are basically cryptographic hashes and thus are long and almost universally hard to remember.

True in the sense it wouldn't help much in shortening a normal TOR URL in itself, however it would help in the case where the link would have a lot of subfolders and/or long string of characters which is the case for example Sheep Market. So if I take the case of our own direct link to Sheep Market it looks like this: http://sheep5u64fi457aw.onion/account/profile/91548147ff9df8613efdf6b558107de7 - so there's should be plenty of potential to shorten it by quite a bit instead of just saying "find me on Sheep Marketplace".
