Howdy all,
I simply wanted to make a note about the erroneous nature of any claims about various strains/races of P. Cubensis mushroom potency. The fact is that it is impossible to say that any one strain/race is more potent than any other, due to a variety of factors (with spawn colonization and substrate consolidation being the most consistently relevant variable). That said, slow-growing strains--such as the (in)famous Penis Envy varieties, KSSS Thai Super Strain, and Orissa India--often are more potent *if* grown in proper conditions; however, these are finicky strains/races.
It should also be noted that "closed-cap" mushrooms are more potent by weight than "open-capped." Once the partial veil tears and the cap begins to open, potency drops even as the mushroom gains mass.
The bottom line here is that no strain is patently more potent than another. Of course, growers will say that they cloned a great mushroom individual, selecting for potency; this is possible, and often done. But it can be done with any strain.
Then, the handiest way to discover potency is to have various individuals "bioassay" (eat and experience) a standard amount (say, 2g) several times from a batch of clones, and report on that.
I encourage growers to do this to serve as a quasi-accurate "potency" index for buyers.
Take care.
