Title: security
Post by: afflicted on July 18, 2013, 05:29 pm
ok, so far I am

1.using a vpn , I understand that an open vpn has better encryption but I find pttp easier to use with btguard (vpn provider). Is there anyone who can sway me either way?
2.obviously using tor - how important are tor bridges? does any one use/not use them ? I had to use a gmail account to obtain bridges from tor, however the gmail account had to be verified to a text to my mobile so I wont be using them, is it worth the hassle to get a new throw away sim card and phone?
3.when using tails in linux I get the following message - "warning virtual machine detected" both the host operating system and the virtualisation software are able to monitor what you are doing in tails.       I looked around on some info regarding this and all I can ascertain is that its open to key loggers, is that the only security issue?

If any one can offer suggestions on any of the above points your comments would be appreciated.
many thanks

afflicted

Try TAILS instead. And ditch the vpn with tails. A vpn gives you a fixed entrance and exit node that is easily found out. Use TAILS without a vpn only for SR stuff. Use the vpn for your regular browsing and for anything else. The tails site has a good write-up about the details of why.

one more thing lol I run kaspersky and malware bytes, are these ok running in the background as malwarebytes blocked something outgoing from tor?

Just run tails from a usb and none of that matters. Keep the antivirus and firefox add-ons and vpn for your everyday surfing. Tails for clandestine activities.

I think you need 100 posts before you can give or take it. Just a way of telling someone they had a good or bad post. I don't put too much stock in it.
