You should read Cryptome.org for starters.
For intermediates and experts, the way has already been discovered.
Cryptome, oh Cryptome, how we praise thee.
Share the secrets of the land,
And free shall be the hand
To sow first the seeds of doubt,
Troubled as it may be under a thunderous sky,
May the doubt grow tall and strong,
So that it may bloom under a sunny sky,
And show the world that beauty comes from the mind
That seeks the Sun,
No longer buried in the soil
With lies and death and rotten flesh.

Cryptography grants us permission
To seek true liberty, as if there were such a thing as free energy.
With great knowledge comes great power,
And with great power comes great freedom.
Freedom is a devilish brood,
Full of frustration and despair.
One who masters the wild beast that is freedom,
Will only have happiness,
Floating in the breeze, like a pure mountain air.

Be careful with the source.
It is too precious a thing.
Greater than all the gold on Earth,
Because it holds our designs, our knowledge, our power.
The source is the binary that holds our precious worth,
Locked away under numbered keys,
Hidden deep inside our own finite memories.
When we perish, so will our keys,
Our gold lost to that curse called entropy.

Curse ye, ol' entropy.
Cure ye, too, you damned cryptography.
Our coins and our identity
Remain hidden and for no one to see,
Except these words we leave,
On the forum servers,
Oh, how cursed this thing has become,
This thing we call liberty.

Write a little bit of everything.

Make ye password long,
Make ye password random.
If you write it down,
Invest in padlocks, locked in tandem.
Make ye passwords safe,
By never sharing them.

Oh, but wait!

They must be shared to ever work,
So, with whom we share them, we must trust.
We must. We must.
But with whom DO we share them?
Strangers, with a drug and money lust.
How we are cursed to liberty
By losing all our riches at sea.
Such is life by the coin,
Such is life on the road.
No one lives forever,
So let's start living,
And forget we ever had them.

Twitter was hacked,
And Wall Street crashed.
So strong were our passwords,
That we never noticed what was really going wrong.
Our greatest strength lies in our passwords,
But our greatest weakness lies in our masters.

Twitter kept the passwords safe,
But they failed to hold the castle
From the enemy that approached,
In the open and on the march,
Across miles of fields and audible for days.
Chinese have built our security wares,
Yet we wonder why they walked right in.

Those who believe a little birds tweet,
Will live the live of a drifting fleet,
Following the wind and currents,
With no course or purpose but to be,
To exist and nothing more complicated than a heartbeat.
It is a shame that everyone tweets.

Create a phrase - include numbers and punctuation and ensure it is memorable to you. With the phrase complete choose every third and fifth character (or whatever). The passphrase that emerges should be strong ... providing pretty good protection :)

Password length is better than anything else.  Using special characters doesnt really do much anymore.  So create a sentence you can remember, and use it.

Something like:

MyFavoriteSongIsFromtheBeatles.

Hello

giving advice on how someone creates a password would be the first step to render someones password weaker ^^

i know that doesnt help you much but i hope it will at least help someone not giving out any advice ;)
sry for that dude but im sure you can be smart enough to come up with your own technics

a first thing you can do is search google for some freely avaible password lists and be sure to NOT pick one of those
also read on how bruteforce methods works and try to understand how to create a password wich would be harder to get bruteforced afterwards

1. don't use words that can be found in the dictionary. foreign words and unusual proper names are fine. don't use dates or names under any circumstances.

2. take the first letter of a sentence to get a good random chunk of letters that you can remember. Something like "that damned junky faggot stole my erect penis and sold it on the black market" becomes "tdjfsmepasiotbm" - very hard to guess.

3. Salt your password. That means, throw some shit in there in the middle. So if your password is konkrete it you can make it konkshittingdicknippleskrete.

4. Use unusual characters and substitute letters for weird characters. konkrete becomes kön|<r3t3.

5. make it long. each letter makes it exponentially more difficult to hack.

6. take advantage of caps if the password is caps sensitive, but do it in an unusual way that would be difficult to guess.

Pick an easy-to-remember phrase. Then shift fingers to the right one key and up one key. So silkroad becomes e9po50wr 8)

I personally use this strongpasswordgenerator.com

If you want a password no one will ever break, just set it on 40 characters with punctuation.  That wont be cracked in your lifetime even with quantum computing.

So good you have to write the password down to remember! No way that can backfire.

long and hard is where you want to be at. lots of random stuff in there. use a good password manager but call it something else.

I use the following trick to generate strong password but that I can easily recover: (on mac osx or linux)

- On the command line, I generate a md5 checksum for the name of the site + some salt (a random string, but always the same so I can remember).

For example (where Yo is the salt)

$ md5<enter>
silkroadYo<enter>
29b3adf5145e3d0b726a1800a50db0ec<enter>
<ctrl-d>

- To make this even stronger, I replace some characters (which are all in the 0-9a-f range) with other characters.

$ md5 | tr abc XYZ<enter>
silkroadYo<enter>
<ctrl-d>
29Y3Xdf5145e3d0Y726X1800X50dY0eZ

- The length might be exaggerated, so I shorten it:

$ md5 | tr abc XYZ | head -c 12<enter>
silkroadYo<enter>
29Y3Xdf5145e<enter>
<ctrl-d>

- This I can remember or just regenerate whenever I need it, since I know the sitename, the salt and the replacement strings.

Once you get past a few characters, the presence or absence of special characters, numbers, caps, etc don't really matter.  Pick 4 random words that mean something to you, in an order you can remember. xkcd said it best

WTF you can't do that shit. Gotta be a limit. If your worried about it just write down the max allowed numbers and letters and scramble them. Write it down.
