Title: Running my regular browser alongside ToR bundle?
Post by: MedGuad on December 01, 2011, 08:21 pm
Ok so I'm using the ToR bundle with the Firefox browser.  It's the only browser I use when connected to the network (for SR and SR Forums).  Is it safe to have my non-ToR browser (Chrome) running too.  Obviously it isn't using the ToR to make it's connection.  Would this be a good idea?

Thanks!

From a technical point of view, there is no problem with that idea. Unless you get a virus or discover a bug I don't think there is any chance Firefox reading the browser data of Chrome or vice-versa.

From a personal (human) point of view, the only issue to consider is that you accidentally type the wrong thing into the wrong browser.. so it means just being extra aware of which browser is which at all times.

Yeah I would love to know the answer to this one question too...
I often do the same by running the tor bundle in Firefox and then use Chrome at the same time, for faster and less illegal operations ha ha ;)

Thanks for the info.  I also thought from a technical standpoint this should be fine but I wanted to confirm with the experts here :)
thanks again!

I do it all the time, especially when the dreaded TOR is  slowwwww.... but that's here with the forums, no worries...

On main site, well, I'd suggest using a flash drive with a linux live distro like Tails(http://tails.boum.org/about/index.en.html)   or liberte linux(http://dee.su/liberte)  , for anything serious, and if you have one, I'd use a netbook and trot down to a coffeeshop or somewhere else for purchases and such...depends on how protective you want to be abouit it...nobody knows for sure...a little bit of paranoia goes a long way...a lot of paranoia sucks.

Yes, this is safe to do. That's why the Tor Browser Bundle exists.
