First you need to set up your banking to internet banking, so you can transfer money. Intersango is having a few problems right now, but I'm still managing to put money in and buy bitcoins.
So after setting up internet banking, you transfer money from your account over to Intersango, make sure you put in your unique reference number not just the sort code and account number, so they can tell which account to transfer the money to.
Once you've got the money in intersango (this can take a day or more) you can exchange your pounds for bitcoins.
After you have the bitcoins you want, you have to transfer them to the wallet of your silkroad, this is as easy as pasting in the silkroad wallet address and the number of bitcoins you want to transfer into the intersango website. Then you wait a couple of hours and it should appear in your silkroad wallet. Tada you can buy whatever you want now!

I do the same but using mtgox, I'm told its not secure at all! Use at least a laundry service and some online wallets such as flexcion(or google some more can't remember off the top of my head) , and then send to SR.
I find it too long buying using  moneypaks ukash etc even if it is more harder to trace ..

Hey thanks for the reply guys, really appreciate it.
I don't have internet banking but will apply for an account.
In the meantime is it ok to get a friend to send the money from his bank account?or must it be in my name?

I use someones account I know not my own, and if they do it for you don't stress if it aint there straight away, if they have sent it quoting your reference number just be patient, learn from my fail haha, I almost killed someone because I thought they never sent the money I gave them.
