Title: Looking for Linux / Security Tutor for project, will pay $50 BCs
Post by: hexorizen on April 10, 2012, 10:11 am
Looking for someone reputable that will chat with me on XMPP / OTR and help me jump through a few hurdles.

First is how to modify a code within an iso to dual-boot (full source available)
Also how to add and remove programs from specific distributions.
That and a few other questions.

Anyone interested? 50$ worth of BCs for an hour max.

(yes, I could learn it myself but I'm tired, fruistrated, want social support)
If you have the knowledge let's chat.

PM me

You don't edit the ISO to dual boot. Generally you will want to install Windows first if that is what you plan to dual boot with.  Make sure to leave space for your Linux distro. Then when you want to install the linux distro you specify that you want to dual boot during the installation, or during the partition configuration.  I have never dual booted Windows with Linux so not sure how much help I can be, but it seems easy enough. You could always just follow this tutorial if you are using Ubuntu in addition to Windows

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

to remove stuff from ubuntu you generally can just do sudo apt-get remove name-of-package

just post any other questions here or if you need more help on the other things , do you get stuck on something ?

Yes Linux always needs to be installed after windows for dual boot, otherwise windows MBR will overwrite GRUB. Caused me to lose all of my data because of a fuckup one time. Not that I would advise dual booting linux on your personal computer for these purposes anyway.

I just mount the .ISO in a virtual machine (Virtualbox or VMware/qemu) then do whatever you want to it.
Save it as a snapshot and then google to find a program that will convert it to ISO .. as long as your VDI partition isn't massive should be fine.

Otherwise adding/deleting programs in .ISO's is called slipstreaming. Just google 'slipstream .iSO' lot's of programs will come up.

Some tutorials

There's also a program that generates a live CD .iso of any linux installation. I forgot what it is
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=688872  here's semi manual method

If you install Arch Linux it's somewhat secure by default, as they cut out lot's of standard and insecure programs in the default install. You have to start enabling stuff to make it insecure, much like how OpenBSD works "secure by default".
