Title: Reminder: Double-label your shipments
Post by: GreenPEAs on February 08, 2012, 08:17 pm
I know this has to have been covered on here by someone before, but a quick cursory search didn't turn anything up. So, for those who are not already doing so: ALWAYS DOUBLE LABEL YOUR SHIPMENTS.

For example, with Priority Mail flat rate envelopes: package everything into some kind of shipping envelope (manila is fine) and place a shipping label on this. Cover it with clear packing tape so that it cannot smear. Then place this manila envelope into your flat rate mailer and place a shipping label on that as well (and clear-tape it as well).

Why? Well this only happened to me once, as a recipient of a package in fact - but USPS somehow tore the outer priority mail envelope in the location of the label. However, the inside package was labeled, and they simply placed some tape on the package, an apology note was attached, and they were still able to deliver it because they were able to get the address off the inside label.

That vendor knew what he was doing, and I have never shipped a package without double labeling since then.

The plastic tape over the address is a good idea. I once had one package arrive dead-dropped in my apartment building because water got on it smudged the apt number and part of the address. Luckily I was expecting it so I was able to get to it before anyone else.

Yeah, most packages I've recieved are a C5 envelope, with a package inside. And then you open the package inside of the package to get your (insert drug of choice here).
