Title: While SR is down, a little help? Public keys.
Post by: Cookiee on April 11, 2012, 05:09 pm
Hello, I haven't made a purchase yet - because I don't know what to put in the "address" box (the one when you've added an item to your basket"

Do I put my public key in there?

I've tried adding the sellers public key and encrypting a message but it's just gibberish when I open it (people on this forum said that)

I'm using Kleopatra & Win 7. Any help would be appreciated.

check out the following thread http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=18168.0

a quick explanation of the keys stuff.

Once you encrypt something with someone's public key you won't be able to decrypt it because to decrypt it you need the private key which as the name suggests only they should have

But what if i set it so person x AND me can decrypt it?

When I come to decrypt it, it works.

Can I test it with someone?

As far as I know you cannot set it so that both you AND the recipient can decrypt the message. It sounds like you are encrypting the message to the public portion of your key instead of the public portion of the recipient's key. Try encrypting a message to the below key as a test:
