Title: Question about PGP
Post by: Rai on August 02, 2013, 09:36 pm
I'm going to make my first purchase on SR in about a week or two, and I've been looking into ways of staying anonymous. I have a PGP message of my address that I will send to the vendor when I pay, but I have a quick question before doing so. I've looked through multiple topics about PGP and I did not see the answer to my question in any of them.

When I try to decrypt my message, it prompts me for the passphrase that I created it with, does that mean I have to send the passphrase along with the PGP block? The guide I used does not say anything about sending the vendor my passphrase. I'm a bit confused here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can't encrypt your address until you've picked your vendor and imported their public key. There's no point doing this so far in the future in case they change their key.

It's asking for your password because you're decrypting the message, using your key, when you encrypt a message with a vendors public key the vendor will have to put their password in to decrypt the message.

I didn't think about that, maybe I should wait until I'm ready to buy before importing/encrypting, in that case.

And alright, I didn't know that, thanks for the info.
