has anyone used bitinstant recently and been successful? I want to use it but I don't want to have to worry about losing my money.
-
Fuck if anyone knows, you have to enter so much personal info now I highly doubt that it's worth it.
I've tried to use it a bunch of times, and I always get error messages. Either they can't verify my identity or their business partners have a stick up their ass and doesn't want to fix BI...
I'm going through coinbase until I can gather a bit more knowledge up in my noggin on where else to buy btc's.

Ok, first of all. You always had to enter personal information. It is the same as it was before they changed the website. Second, use a made up name, address, DOB, and phone number.
Now onto other options. Blue Sky traders works fine. They require you to deposit into a bank of america account. Could not be more simple than that.
Well actually, I never remember having to enter my address and D.O.B. But then again I could use some work on my memory.
Second, I've used the fake info approach and that didn't get me anywhere. Same error messages as always, even when I knew my fake info was solid.
I would try Blue Sky traders but I thought they only did large transactions.

It does work, I've used the new site a couple of times and haven't encountered any problems receiving bitcoins. The problem is that you need to sign up with real info in order to use the new site. This leaves you with two options: a) use your real identity to sign up and obtain the bitcoins, and wash them before sending them to your SR account. I haven't tried this, I went with option b) using someone else's identity to sign up and obtain the bitcoins. To do this, you need to be able to answer 3 questions about whoever you are pretending to be in order to "verify" your identity. It took me 2 tries (not sure if I was unsuccessful the first time or there was an error), 2+ hours of my time, and a couple of background checks (anonymously of course) to pull it off.
To sum up everything, yes it does work; however, it may not be worth the effort (given all the fees that bitinstant applies). I'm sure there are better ways to get bitcoins now, but I already went through all the effort to do bitinstant. Maybe others can suggest better alternatives (for USA please).

Bitcoin local is usually a hit or miss, depending on where you live.

BST has halted transactions for now :( Looks like Big Brother is trying to hit us on the finance end finally. Super sucks bigtime.

Head over to Bitcoin talk forums and see if you can find some sellers I guess or local bitcoins. This current set up sucks ass though. There needs to be a better way. Would be nice if there was a way to buy directly from miners but the problem is and always will be is the cash.

I used bitinstaat today and sent a couple of coins via the Bitcoin to Email route at Walmart. Only reason I did that is I set up some new encrpyted wallets and they are still updating for the first time. 215 weeks of transactions takes a while. Anyway by the time I got home the transaction was completed. Jumped on to tormail to make sure I got the transaction email and nothing is there. I wait a couple of hours and still nothing. So I email support, no answer. An hour later email again, get a reply that everything looks fine on their backend and that the email was sent. Great, except I never got it. Verified that the email I sent it to was correct just in case and it was. The last part of their email was something crappy about if I want fast support I should only do transactions during their business hours of 10 am to 7pm EDT which is NOT listed anywhere on their site. Seemed like a dick response to a legitimate concern. So anywhere here I am with an email saying my transaction is complete (sender email) and no way to get the coins because I never got the email on the receiving end that gives instructions to use a pin you set to get the coins. Waiting til 10 am EDT to try again since apparently they aren't the 24/7 service they pretend to be.

I had that to me before and I was stressing cause it was a rather large amount of BTC but to there credit they did get it to me within 24 hours.

Bitinstant always required an address, DOB, phone number, and name. As long as you use the same email address as you gave for your fake name originally it will work. Literally there is no verification process other than verifying your email address is the same as the one you used originally with that fake name. I use a fake name. One that I made up. It still works with 0 problems. Everyone needs to stop spreading misinformation about bitinstant. It works as long as you do the right things.
Yes, that worked with the old site hence the 'redesign' of the site which added additional security measures. I don't see how it's misinformation when it's not only one person reporting this. So you think that's all they do is to make sure you use the same email addresses. Really? And you think people need to stop spreading misinformation? You need to go use the site and start putting fake shit in there and see how far you get.
-
DUDE I USED THE NEW SITE WITH MY FAKE NAME AND INFO. I DON'T WANT TO GET PISSED BUT IT IS THE SAME FUCKING THING! NEW DESIGN. Yes that is misinformation you are spreading. The only time I had an error is when I used a different email address. Then the error was that the info could not be verified. I switched it back and presto! I used it yesterday. 2 transactions with completely fake info.
In fact 2 days ago I helped a friend figure out a fake name ***Clearnet Warning**** Fakenamegenerator.com . Helped him make up a fake address, DOB, email, and phone number. It somehow worked for him too? Maybe we were the two people to just get lucky... lol
Oh so you mean your not pissed now? Your caps lock just got locked there for a minute? lol

I didn't start this so called spread of misinformation on Bitinstant. Threads if you notice you were not started by me. I merely took a look at and responded with out I found out. I was able to search and find peoples personal info such as Name, SSN, Bank account #, DOB, CC, Address over the internet to be used for testing.
Using there info I set up a buy transaction with one of these peoples info purposely making a spelling mistake on the last name in which I received an error message. Fixed the spelling worked fine. Now I did that for 5 other people that I had info but this time changing different variables such as incorrect DOB or addresses, etc. I spent the good part of this morning messing around with it and testing out different things cause I was curious.
It worked for you? I'm really happy for you, bursting with joy in fact.

They did get me my coins today after I spent all day trying to get them to accept the fact I never got the email to collect them. Once they finally sent it, and for some reason I got 4 copies of the email when it finally went through, I collected them no problem. They seem to have an issue somewhere that is causing this problem. It's obvious someone tried to send the email 4 different times and they all just came through at once at the end of the day. I won't be doing bitcoin to email ever again. In fairness I did get my coins so all is well. It was a MAJOR hassle though. I think I will try someone else. I wish it was easier to get currency on BTC-e because I have no issues trading on that market or moving bitcoin in and out of my account. They are always about 5-10 bucks cheaper a coin than Gox as well.

I used BI recently and got my coins within the hour. Used a fake real name and DOB and did a guest transaction.

do you guys think it's unethical if i looked up a person's address, and used it with their name? it'd be a random person, on the yellowpages. this is what i did for my last purchase via bitinstant (i chose a person with a surname that is from the same ethnicity than i am too, to make it more convincing).
i don't think i'll be doing that.. it's likely innocuous, but i could be putting someone on LE's radar.

Buying Bitcoins is perfectly legal, so I don't know that you'll actually be bringing the heat to this random person if you use their info. But that's just my opinion. Ultimately its up to you and how you feel about it. Will you feel guilty if you do it? If so, don't do it. ;D

Bitinstant fucking sucks fat gorilla cock they stole 280 bucks from me FUCK THEM

Yea....same here. Used them yesterday with no problem. I actually got my coins faster than I normally do..
-
Thanks everyone for backing up what I was trying to explain.
-
Is bitinstant not allowing guest transactions for anyone else?
-
I got all signed in with bitinstant...account created...logged in
says it:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are unable to process your transaction at this time. Please contact support@bitinstant.com if you have questions.
i wonder if they have a 24 hour wait period. This makes NO sense as I used real info
-
Just use the guest option
-
I think they got rid of the guest option (someone else confirm please).
Anyone tried making an account with fake info & used it successfully?
-
Attempted to make a fake account. To verify it, it sounds like you have to answer some bullshit about the history/info of said fake person, via some database check they have. Looks like bitinstant is no longer an option.
-
Since when are bitcoins illegal?
In all honesty, I think some of you are placing yourself at a much higher risk of getting caught or investigated by using this fake name and info stuff. If I were them and had to audit, my eyes would be clearly drawn to the person whose stats don't match a database even slightly.
Unless you guys are spending literally thousands and other questionable amounts, who cares? Just run the coins through the Fog.
-
I agree. I usually buy coins once a month...every month its a new hoop...a new delay
I am signing up on bitinstant using my mom's info. she is 87...she wont be affected...since my state is not in service for bitinstant
