Title: HELP................................................. Windows 8 for Silk Road...
Post by: idhrsnejsk on June 21, 2013, 12:28 am
Egress filtering advice much needed! I just bought a new Windows 8 laptop. Haven't opened it yet. I plan on using it for SR and personal activities.

Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to full disk encrypt it using Truecrypt (after turning off UEFI booting and turning on BIOS booting of course) and use Tor Browser Bundle on it (with all plugins, java, silverlight, flash uninstalled and turned off). I'm also going to turn on Windows Firewall with these settings:

* Inbound connections that do not match a rule are blocked
* Outbound connections that do not match a rule are blocked
* disable all inbound rules
* disable all outbound rules except for Tor Browser Bundle, Bitcoin, and Core Networking

I searched around the forums a bit but couldn't find much on Windows 8 (search requires each word to be at least two letters, 8 is only one letter).

Besides turning off SmartScreen and Fast Startup, what else should I turn off or on? What should I uninstall?

Can't really help with Windows 8 specifically, but I am doing this:

OK, it's a bit of a pain to boot into this everytime you need it, but for separation and anonymity it's a no brainer...
