On my pc I am running Windows XP and using the Tor Browser Bundle to access Silk Road and these forums. I had no problem until one day I decided to click "use a new identity" and now suddenly it never connects. It connects to every other site, and tells me that I am connected to the tor network successfully but will not load SR and the forums.
I downloaded the browser update and still it will not connect. I don't understand why it connects to everything but SR. Is there something I can do to fix it? It even connects to tormail perfectly fine. Can anyone tell me why it won't connect to SR sites only? Thanks!
Oh and I am connected to the forum right now on my android tablet. :)

Ahhh ok no responses.
I guess I have another one of those "unique" problems that no one can relate to.
I do that often lol :-)

Keep trying Use a New Identity. Sometimes I get problems accessing SR and sometimes the forums. Just click Use a New Identity until they both load. Also make sure to check your exit nodes ;)

Try powercycling your modem. All else fails try using a USB stick or live cd as instructed here: https://tails.boum.org/

I'll keep trying as u mentioned and hopefully I'll get lucky.
How do I check exit nodes though & what am I checking them for exactly.
Thank u for responding :D

If you can connect to other .onion sites then it may be that the problem is with SR & the SR Forums. I've had days when I just could not connect to either. Perhaps traffic to these two sites was unusually heavy, or perhaps you just kept getting routed through slow relays. It happens. And if you see other people having the same problem don't jump to conclusions and think "SR is down forever!!" That also happens. :P

I'm able to connect with my android tablet using Orbot though, which is using the same connection. wouldn't it have trouble there also?

Hmm this sounds like a user specific problem the more I hear about it. OS being used might be useful. It could be a stack problem or anything else. If anything I would consider reconfiguring your whole rig/USB boot device. Best of luck!

using tor browser in Windows to access SR is a bad idea. It is not very secure. If you have to access SR using windows ay least set up a virtual machine or virtualbox.. and access sr though that. Using usb stick or live cd as I described is best. Other wize you would have to look for an aswer to your problem at torproject.org.

O.K., I think it's safe to say you've isolated the problem to your Windows PC. I haven't used the Tor Browser Bundle for Windows in a while so I can't try and recreate the problem. When I did use the Tor Browser Bundle for Windows and had similar problems I'd usually stop and then restart Vidalia. Or just close and then restart the browser. That's a crude way of dealing with a connection problem but it usually worked.
Fah-Q has a good point with booting your PC from a flashdrive. I'm currently testing out the 0.11 version of Tails and I rarely have problems with it. It's not as user-friendly as Windows but it's much more secure, both in terms of connection security and the fact that it keeps your data hidden from people who may try to find out what you've been up to on SR.
