do you combine them with other drugs?
Perhaps you should rephrase your question to 'Why do people take benzos to get high' as I have no idea.

I take Xanax and previously Ativan for medical reasons; extreme social paranoia/anxiety, and explosive outbursts. Yes, I take other medication with it. If you're asking what I combine with the Xanax in terms of getting the effects I desire, I generally drink a shitton of coffee- it combats the sleepiness of Xanax but keeps the anxiolytic ones.

well, i ask because i've been left with a bunch of valium pills. I've tried combining them with various drugs to get high. I would love to try it with meth. Valium + meth sounds like the perfect drug combination for social situations.

How does it combine with weed?

Speedballing is apparently quite fun, and while I have not personally combined my benzo with a strong stimulant, Xanax + caffeine can be ever so slightly euphoric. It makes me tranquil in situations where I'd prefer to hide away.

I've taken one of my 1mg Xanax after a few tokes of a nice Indica weed; it can be quite relaxing. I'm not fond of Sativa strains, so no personal experience there.

I'd have to thumbs up this as well.

The people that live near me take them with alcohol. They say the feel invincible, can do anything. Reduced inhibitions. A bit of a buzz. Forget the night (is that a good thing)?

I can't say I've ever felt like that. Or even felt a buzz. I take a high dose to come down from various things. Mostly end up a sleep or extremely sedated so I don't care about anything.

I'm surprised you're on them long term zvp1014. Generally they try to get you away from benzos for stuff like that. Did you try other things like mild antidepressants or CBT or anything? I have a bit of experience for personal reasons.

Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Wellbutrin+Abilify, Effexor, Zoloft, Seroquel, Remeron, Trileptal; in no particular order.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).

Ativan for anxiety and episodes barely helped; Xanax, far more-so.

I dunno.

I got a script for them, and my inner druggie was like "woah these are gonna get me fucked up."  I noticed nothing aside from a realm calming effect that I needed for anxiety anyway.  I have never gotten a "high" off a benzo. Given how fucking awful withdrawls are, I much rather do something that gives me a real high, like weed or opiates

Benzo's for me means sleep, when my body just tells me "No you old bastards, you are not going to sleep UUUUUP UP UP UP UP!" i always have some benzo's on hand to knock me right out.

People take benzo's for a very wide variety of situations.

The primary one is to cope, to function, to reduce irrational anxieties and such. This is bascially what the less-narcotic benzo's like xsanax were developed to do, and they often do this very well.

Another major application is as hypnotics, i.e. sleep aids, for which other benzo's prove quite effective in the short term, though tolerance usually developes quickly, making it only a temporary fix.

Lastly there is the strictly recreational use, where people take large doses of things like xanax to produce a feeling comparable to alcohol intoxication. This is not very common though since in most places alcohol is more readily and cheaply available.

Combination use is another thing entirely though: substances like xanax can be used to 'cancel' bad trips in many cases. People using psychedelics like lsd often keep some benzo's at hand in case their trip turns bad to have a way of stopping that and dozing off for a bit instead of riding out a negative experience.

Oh yeah, they taste great. It's especially fun when I can't quite swallow the Xanax pill in the morning and I feel like puking over how godawful they are.

Clonazepam is minty and soothing almost like a menthol.

Lorazepam tastes a bit sweet, like lactose.

Temazepam tastes a bit like confectioners sugar.

Alprazolam tastes like bittersweet reassurance that you're about to get fucked up.

Valium tastes sort of like Xanax. Haven't had a Valium in quite awhile so I can't comment.

I like the taste of straight whiskey and the feeling of tar and freebase nicotine with copious amounts of bong resin coating my lungs and shrinking my telomeres you puritanical bitch. It's he same principle of flagellation. It's my sacrament. My price to pay in physical displeasure before partaking in hedonism to appease the drug gods.

Fuck you.

To preface this, I can drink whiskey/rum/vodka/whatever straight and love the taste. But what fucking pharmacy is producing your Xanax? My legal presses taste absolutely awful, and the flavor never leaves my mouth.. I presume you're speaking in jest?

This is important to me and all the other benzo users. : D

I second that, benzos don't taste bad at all, and klonopin is actually kind-of pleasant tasting, it tastes like mint but really not as strong as menthol x). Xanax and Valium are just a little bitter but nothing like tylenol or most opiates. The only one that doesn't taste too good is tetrazepam, that one tastes almost as bad as tylenol. Some benzos don't even have a taste...

The how do you explain that a strongly sedative benzo like clonazepam just tastes a bit minty, and that different brands of diazepam have the same taste, but still taste different than alprazolam?

People take xanax to potentiate opiates.  I took it when I took methadone, which turned it into a whole different animal.  Much stronger than heroin.

Ok listen up  because i tried alot of benzos : they can be used for anxiety ( thats a disease some people have), to help with comedowns, to calm you down, if your job is boring  you take 2 mg clonazepam and time flies faster, have a benzo with a beer, also potentiate shitty heroin.

benzos I tried hm :

Alprazolam 1mg  - hate the taste just hate it - bitter

Bromazepam 6mg  - tasty as hell probably tastiest benzo

Chlordiazepoxide 10mg  - just remember sweet coating

Clonazepam 2mg  - one brand was very minty other less minty

Diazepam 5mg  - some of them tasty some not

Diazepam 10mg/2ml - intramuscular, intravenous.

Estazolam 2mg  - bitter very bitter

Lorazepam 2.5mg  - coating is sweet then there's some bitterness

Medazepam 10mg  - tasty but at the end gets bitter/minty

Midazolam 7.5mg  dissolves under tongue very fast tasty

Midazolam 5mg/ml - intramuscular, intravenous.

Nitrazepam 10mg  - tasty

Oxazepam 10mg  - ok

Tofisopam 50mg  - ok

Triazolam 0.25mg - bitter but very nice taste and very nice buzzy high

Benzodiazepine-similar

Zolpidem 10mg - i liked this taste too

Pure benzo's surely are not tasteless. Xanax is rather bitter, both as a pure powder and as a tablet if you decide to chew on it, and the taste really is rather foul. You may have positive associations with it that make it acceptable, but the basic taste is nasty.

Diazepam is also a bit bitter, but somehow not in a negative way to me - the taste doesn't seem to linger very long compared to xanax.

Clonazepam is a bit odd here, since its often offered in tablets with some added flavour like mint or banana. I dount straight clonazepam will taste very good, but i'd have to go to the point of extracting it from tablets to find out.

There are a couple drugs that are very good for that. I'll either pop a Seroquel or 50mg Valium if I start to have a bad trip. Valium works though and I'll use that usually.

I usually try to give the trip some time, but if it has been 30 minutes and nothing improves, and it's still early in the LSD trip, I'll pop the Valium.

Xanax is pretty good for come-downs, IMO.... Or just to take the "edge" off of all stimulants.

I do have a prescription for it.
While I do not have social anxiety, it makes everything much more manageable for me.
Some people take xanax and pass out; I take xanax and clean the house, pay bills, etc.
Makes it way easier to sort my tasks out and think straight.
Also if I fight with my boyfriend I might pop a xanax and it helps me act like I don't give a fuck. Haha.

Seroquel isn't a benzo- but if we're on that topic, last time I took seroquel I fell asleep for around 30 hours and missed my flight. It also made my arms and legs swell up. No love for seroquel. I'm sticking to xanax.  :-\

XD

My psychiatrist said this is a hit or miss for people- I had what was either 25 mg tabs of Seroquel as a sleep aid, but I quickly gave it up as it didn't work. However one night I was feeling like abusing my body some (aka bored and unable to sleep) so I took an anti-psychotic dose an acquaintance of mine is on, 6 pills, 150mg; still didn't make me tired.

Wow zvp1014, I'd probably be in a vegetative coma if I took 150 mgs. The amount that knocked me out was far less! You, my friend, are a warrior. Haha.

150mg of Seroquel? I used to be prescribed that much with either an Ambien or some temazepam to sleep at night.

When I was in jail they put me on 150mg of Seroquel in the morning and at night.

I slept a lot in jail.

You get used to the effects. 50mg of that shit will fuck me up proper now that I don't take it any longer.

If I asked for it they'd give me 400mgs dosed out in 3 150mg's and a 50 and I'd cheek them and trade those fuckers for cigarettes and commisary stuff and make my own dinner with stuff from the meal trays and occasionally I'd smoke some spice occasionally.

I had DT's from benzo withdrawal and ended up getting put in the medical ward.

And that was jail.

I SLEPT A LOT...

It's weird seroquel is actually sought after in jail. It must've been good for you I guess..

I took the 150mg a month after having quit taking 25mg Seroquel for only two weeks. Expiration is in mid 2014. Did nothing to me as I said. o_o

Seroquel works better as a sleep aid at 25-150mg dosages. Get higher and it becomes more antipsychotic. People take upwards of 600mg Seroquel sometimes. It's not really much more sedating than 100mg.

Seroquel is pretty crappy in my opinion though. I hate it. I only take it if I'm running low on Valium (which I almost never am).
Title: Re: why do people like benzos?
Post by: Ben on May 20, 2013, 01:01 am
I suppose seroquel is one of those drugs that really affect people differently. For some a low dose (25/50mg) seems to be a very effective hyptonic, where others experience little effect at all.

Personally i find a nice dose of benzo's to do the job just fine, but everyone is different and for some benzo's don't seem to do much at all while seroquel knocks them straight out.
