Title: Reducing Fake Vendor Feedback
Post by: Talk to Frank on May 21, 2013, 07:58 am
It's certainly the case that one of the more significant threats posed to the SR community is that of being scammed. One example we have come across is where vendors leave themselves fake feedback by creating bogus accounts and making purchases of their own stealth listings priced at 0.00BTC before changing the price of that listing and making it public. This gives off the impression that the vendor in question is trustworthy, reliable and is able to supply good quality products; the perfect opportunity for a scam.

Whilst we have seen a recent discussion on the potential addition of feedback authenticity ratings on this forum, such a feature would still not negate the potential abuse that fake feedback allows.

One potential solution for this issue would be for all listings to have a section on them where users would be able to see all or some of the following:

a) The date that the item was created by the vendor.

b) The date when the item was last publicly listed from. (This would allow users to see if there was a period of time between which the item was created and then publicly listed, and they could view feedback dates accordingly)

c) The dates of any price changes made to that listing.

By allowing users to see the above information, it would be possible for them to assess whether or not that item might have false/fake/unreliable feedback. Perhaps a good place to display this information would be between the item description and the feedback section itself.

I'm not aware of any downsides to making such information publicly accessible to Silk Road users, what do you guys think?

Frank.

I for one think its a good idea, This place is great but as it grows and the scamming is growing I think yes maybee SR staff needs to make a few changes to help curb this.

I agree, in addition to this...
