Anyone else have this problem?
I have a boat load of buyers who receive their product then wait the 17 days for the auto-finalization.
I am considering asking to release escrow before shipment but I feel I do not have enough feedback or reputation to qualify for such a request.
It is just plain annoying to have your funds tied up for half a month due to buyer ignorance
-
Yep. And I cut every single one of those dead beats off. F*CK UM! I will never knowingly help those deadbeats ever again. Sometimes once in a while rl gets in the way. Exceptions can and should be made. But anyone in a wave of bs is out, imo.

You have to realize that there are people out there (not just on SR) who only give a fuck about themselves. If it was me I'd cut them off as well.

Yeah,
Having thousands tied up in escrow prevents me from buying more product and delays everything. I am going to go ahead and take other vendor's advice and instate the policy for new buyers.

As a vendor who ships internationally I've had this experience where it seems like buyers are waiting until the last minute to finalize. One could assume malice or realize that sometimes it actually takes that long for mail to get delivered. If I ship via regular post from a rural area in Western Canada to a rural area in the South-East United States then it's certainly possible to take 17 days.
If you think about it, 17 days can span over three weekends which brings it down to 11 business days. A little longer than estimated 6-10 for international shipments between the US & Canada but well within reason.
I prefer to attribute late finalization as being the fault of Canada Post and/or USPS rather than malicious buyers. They have nothing to gain by being slow to pull the trigger on finalizing.

The voice of reason.

The voice of reason.
I've been on both sides of the vendor:buyer relationship and each time I've ordered for a friend here in Canada from a US based vendor he has always gotten his item within 5 days of auto-finalization. (I don't purchase for myself to my address for security reasons.)
-
Point taken. Real life happens. As vendors we know what's up. After 2-3 shipments you should remember. This area takes x days. This area takes x days. I ship faster out west than I do up north. Same places take 3 days on an OVERNIGHT EXPRESS. It's all about where you live and if your postal carriers actually care to deliver for you.
I have had INT'L shipments take longer. But I knew that going into it. AfricanBushDoctor for example. Takes a long time. NOT A BIG DEAL when expected. But buyers getting caught up for any reason too many times is out. 17 days is a long time. I send a DCN and expect/ really want buyers to finalize and release escrow early. On time at the very least. 3-5 working days mainly. BUT I AM A PROVEN TRUSTED VENDOR. Unscrupulous bastards could send you strips of paper in the mail w/a dcn so beware. Sh*T! I hope I didn't just give someone any ideas.
I just can not wait 17 days for every order. Drop um like they are hot! Word will get out and peeps will straighten up.

..a suggestion is perhaps users don't know the ins and outs of finalising ...to be honest reading the buyers guide on SR its not obvious how the payment and finalising actually works; reviewing the forum discussion groups its not obvious where this is to be discussed neither.
it seems to me that i would figure this out by browsing around the forum reading everyone else's posts, and perhaps not everyone spends the time to research this...
its obviously a 2 part process of participation.
reading above/previous comments perhaps buyers haven't realised how the delays impact on when sellers get paid.
in the average users defence they all cant all be expect to be experts in everything from internet security, to payment methods, pgp......etc etc -there is a lot to be taken in.
amen

-thousands !? ..wow ..this obviously is the business to be in..
-
...go back to dealing with the dealer face to face...heres the product...heres the cash....
-
Wow - this thread has proved to be very beneficial on my end. Many of my customers have just finalized early in response to this post and this only further motivates me to support the community.
To all those who just finalized, you know who you are and you won't be forgotten. Expect some freebies for review in the near future :)

I love to watch the power of communication work.

Is anyone else having issues with buyers not finalizing since the changeover? I have about 15 orders pending finalization that based on past experience and time should have been delivered. I know they probably made it through because I had one finalize that was ship from the same location.
-
..any spare freebees..or do i have to place an order....hehe

Amen Brotha!
I have had pretty good luck with buyers auto-finalizing or taking their sweet time to finalize. Sometimes it has been during connectivity problems or the site outage, obviously, but in all I would say it is way less than 25% for me.
The one person who went to auto 'cause it was their first transaction and they didn't really understand had the sac to message me and apologize and admit he didn't understand how it worked. I liked that so I allowed him to purchase again and he has never went anywhere close to auto. Everybody else can suck the fatty, and not the big blunt I'm about to smoke :-)
Site and BTC are complicated but everything worth anything takes time and learning and anybody who is not willing to read and try to learn deserve none of the benefits of SR.
Always seems that auto or late finalizers do it when you really need the funds. Maybe that is just all the time for me. Most of us as well I'm guessing.

I think it's important that newbies be advised in a serious manner to finalize within no more than an hour after receiving product, and there should be a penalty for autofinalizing. At least now you can see that in our--buyers--profile. This is one of the causes of vendors insisting on newbies bypassing escrow, and as a buyer I hate that people don't realize they have a responsibility to finalize *now*, not after partying all weekend.
I've always taken this seriously, and feel there should be some warning or other 'sign' that tells new buyers--or old lazy buyers--to finalize as soon as they get package. I've never autofinalized and have little sympathy for those who do: they are the ones causing sellers to insist on early finalizing.
-
...whats the big issue, what timescales are we talking of here before the seller gets paid ?!

...whats the big issue, what timescales are we talking of here before the seller gets paid ?!
The big issue is that sellers don't get paid until we finalize. And newbies often forget all about it (unless, of course, they have a problem) ... it's probably one of the main reasons vendors attempt to get new buyers to finalize before they will even ship...which means, basically, that we are all lying when we 'finalize early' but it's one way around the problem. A few months ago, there were many vendor threads on this very subject, and I think it's when the big push towards finalizing early began.
Problem now, is that the 'finalizing early' has attracted several serious scammers, and they ripoff new people under the guise of 'finalizing early...'
Again: I finalize right away, so I don't forget...I can always edit it later, if I want to add about the quality. There's no excuse for autofinalizing...and now it's on your profile too so vendors can tell who the deadbeats are. I'm opposed--in general--to mandatory auto-finalizing by vendors, as it leads to so much ripoffs...but I damn sure understand what causes it. Good vendors and good buyers eventually work things out, and get the job done without hassles.

If anyone is NOT doing it, I would definitely recommend asking buyers to finalize if you're confident they've already received the product.
I'm guessing most are newbies that either don't know the procedure or have forgotten to finalize after getting the product and getting wasted hehehhe. The money is already gone from the buyer's account, I don't really see what they gain by NOT finalizing.
I think good communication/reminding/teaching may relieve some of the sellers' problems is all I'm saying.
-
I have a buyer that is 1 day away from auto-finalization and I feel bad for him because (1) He probably didn't read the guide properly and doesn't reealize that he has to finalize whenhe receives it. (2) Even worse, He hasn't read my messages urging him tto either finalize if he's receivedd it, or go to the resolution center so that he isn't hit with a high auto-finalization rate... which I guess would be 100% since this is is first purchase.
I'm not entire cetain if his rate is going to be 100% but no matter what happens he'll probably have to abandon that buyer's account.
It's a small purchase ~$30 so not a huge deal for me that I haven't gotten the money yet. My concern is geared towards the buyer.

- i can't help but think there situations where either the buyer (or seller) isn't keeping the other informed where the parcel is in transit or arrived...?!
{remember to not use tor connections when checking in transit as per previous posts that LE can be alerted that a tor exit was involved ..as move towards seizing
the parcel...etc}
- its possible the affected sellers have more orders out to newbies than their "regular" buyers (someone who has 2, 3, 5+ purchase history), if thats the case then i
would understand why the books are unbalance here.
-most orders are generally intl as per posts above US --> canada and these are taking longer than it should (compounded by newbie factor..)
-links 3 lines below...suggested to force newbies to settle / finalise early could address this issue here...{hopefully its not going to breed seller --> newbie
scamming...}
- being a 1st time buyer there is going to be an element of "how do i trust.." i will actually get the goods and would imagine the general economic state exasperates this, and threads hopes to address this :

but admit aside from the trust the seller has probably committed to sending the product but the buyer hasn't held up their end of the bargain...i was hoping our suggestions of expanding on the feedback would somehow address this post transaction (sorry it may not help the immediate payment aspect..)
- is that there are possibly incidents of sellers with history of good reputation may also been spoiling it for everyone else.
- final observation is the amounts outstanding on total orders unfinalised within the 20 day period probably is adding up and all you need is a few scammers and thats
a shit load of cash gone; links 5 lines up help address scammers and sellers could band together and decide to enforce the finalise early for newbies to address the
current thread; after time reliable buyers will remain and most will work itself out
???

- do you see the sorts of sellers we have here, not everyone...

Just to chime in as a new buyer. With a lot of sellers not selling to people with high auto-finalization rates and what not. I found the best method is to treat each deal on here as I would with my RL dealer. Order placed, money transferred. SR has enough things in place that if something goes wrong it can be dealt with quickly. Lucky for me I did my due-diligence by researching and lurking for a few months before even thinking of making my first purchase. As others have said I think there is just an influx of new buyers that aren't doing the proper research and in the end cause sellers a little bit of a headache.
That's just my .02 bc from the view of a newbie.
-
I'm with Dark Star on this. I am a new buyer as well, just made my first purchase! I also did a few months of lurking and research before doing this transaction. I feel I am pretty familiar with what needs to be done such as finalizing my order as soon as it arrives (probably be sampling it as SR loads for me to finalize ;) )
But I know how impatient people can be and rush into things without knowing what entirely what is going on. Maybe they should receive some kind of notice letting them know how important is that they finalize their order so that their vendor gets paid and how it can reflect badly on them if they let it auto finalize.

haha

Finalizing within an hour is nice, but I work and go to school so I'm kind of busy too. Plus I want to try the product before finalizing because I got fake meth here and not finalizing before I tried it kept me from getting scammed. So far, I have always finalized within 24 hours.
Now I can't get on the damn site to finalize. The vendors will have to wait for their money through no fault of mine and should get on SR's ass to pay for some real servers that don't fucking crash every week. You guys are losing money every time the site goes down.

- the feedback process is supposed to include / describe your satisfaction with the product, packaging and overall experience -this is a lot to ask from any
feedback system whether its here or ebay {i keep mentioning ebay as they've been in business for some time and feedback & resolution process is
actually quite good for which is quite difficult to achieve -feedback Plus resolution of a sale..}
- the vast majority of buyers probably have no objection to releasing payment asap, probably its the feedback which delays aside from site availability, site down etc..
- conditions as per seller profile can often be quite specific {just an observation}
