Title: Throwaway phone
Post by: 45mypet on June 19, 2013, 12:41 pm
I have a nokia that requires buying prepaid cards. The phone was made in 2000. Would this be safe to use?

Yes, thats pretty much all you're going to need.

A 2000 Nokia is most likely Analog and not compatible with the current Digital cell system.

It only costs $10 - 30$ for a new prepaid throwaway though.

Are you sure about that?  I did not think that buying a phone without registering at least some of your personal info was even possible any more after the GOV'ment passed a law banning anonymous cell phones a few years back.  The only other option I have seen is some .onion website on TOR where you can buy a supposed anonymous phone that allows you to change IMEI number.

Yes.  Tracphone, Net10, Verizon, AT&T, TMobile, etc. prepaid phones..  Just do a search for "Pay As You Go Phones", they're for sale everywhere like Walmart, Best Buy or your local Supermarket

Buy your new phone with cash (and NEVER USE A FREQUENT SHOPPER CARD!!!), now you have an EMEI not associated with you.

With Tracphone all you do is call an 800# or go to the website and enter the phone IMEI/Serial Number.  No personal information at all is required.  Tracphone's activation site asks for info but has a "click here to bypass" link below it.

You buy a prepaid phone and separately buy a Minutes card.  You activate the phone through TOR online or with the 800# from a phone-line NOT associated with you.  Enter the PIN from the minutes card and you're ready to roll.  There is no connection to your identity at all.
Don't buy a "monthly plan" card, only buy a minutes card.  Monthly plans require signups.

wowow careful here. The imei number of the handset is still going to remain the same even if you change the sim. this is not good since every transmission broadcasts your imei. Also the phone will not be analogue. Analogue phones went a long time ago and networks wont even support them. I THINK. But do not keep that phone!

words of wisdom for throw away.

1) --most important-- they are called throw away for a reason.
2) re-read #1
3) throw them away constantly. NEVER IN YOUR OWN GARBAGE.
4) if possible before throwing away delete everything. then destroy the phone as best as possible.
5) needless to say, remove the sim and dispose of it separately.
6) don't just change sims
7) purchase with cash from different locations.
8) assume that they are still not safe, the more you use it, the longer you have it the greater the chances of someone linking it directly to you. (of course this is if they have an interest in you)
9) be paranoid. just be paranoid.
