Title: Vendor rating system to prevent LE vendors
Post by: tootiefruitie on May 16, 2012, 07:54 am
the vendor rating system could be split between legal and illegal items.  a separate rating for each that is visible on the vendor page.  that way, LE can't make a vendor account, sell legal things like syringes and such to get ratings up, then list illicits to harvest addresses for knock and talks.  i know it seems unlikely, but since SR is seemingly impossible to take down, LE are going to start doing everything they can.

obviously, this wouldn't help the problem of LE being able to sell federal reserve notes, and other currencies for cashing out.  even if it's done under a separate account, it can be assumed that the people purchasing those listings are doing it to cash out profits, which would probably be tempting enough for LE to harvest addresses to monitor for shipments going out in those areas.  that is a separate topic altogether though.

out of curiosity, how would this work?
Different items are legal in different areas.  If each vendor were to write out where their items are legal and where their items are illegal, it would be very tedious =/
For example, JWH-018 is illegal in usa, and uk, and legal in canada.
therefore, shouldn't it be the buyers responsibility to check what items are legal / illegal in their country?

items like pipes, syringes, etc. are legal in most places.  these wouldn't be as popular, but a LEO vendor could get a fairly high rating over a decent period of time selling them, then could use that rating to help them sell a much more popular, universally illicit item (which wouldn't be delivered) to harvest a large number of addresses. it's really less about the items being legal, and more about what an organization like the DEA would actually sell on SR.

The DEA has access to TONS of drugs, why couldn't they make a SR task force and sell drugs, and send swat and and fbi dea instead and put your ass in jail with no access to internet so you cant be the whistleblower and tell anyone they are dea.

Because my friend, there are strict controls on how those sorts of stings could be done. They can't just wantonly start shipping around grams, it would have to be bulk so it was A) worth the tax payers money and B) they are only interested in the vendors or anyone in charge. They don't give a fuck about the buyers apart from maybe the ones that buy KG+ amounts.

I think that was a compliment....

But I do think that the DEA has access to a lage amount of drugs and could begin selling them on here to become and established vendor and then when thtey get large orders, then can send their special DEA-FBI-SWAT teams.
This needs to be thought thru.

I just don't see it. Why? Because all an op like that does is bust a bunch of users and does nothing about shutting down SR, busting vendors, confiscating supply and merchandise purchased with illicit funds that can assist budget shortfalls, or really do much of anything.

Only if they were getting desperate might they try something like that in order to scare away buyers from using SR. But it wouldn't. It would just give more credibility to entrenched, established vendors. And the usual motives for doing something like that wouldn't apply. For instance, using such a sweep to turn customers into narcs that will roll on vendors isn't possible. So it really reduces the marginal utility of conducting such an operation that could very well be blasted in the press as a waste of time & resources and "immoral" for so visibly and actively facilitating drug transactions for users. Not that certain gov agencies don't do that already, but those are ones shielded by operating in the shadows in the intelligence arena where what they're doing is not going to end up in courts and splashed across news sites.
