I messaged a few vendors, asking them if they are ok with buyers with 0 transactions, none of them respond.
Am I doing something wrong?
Should I just go ahead and order or should I have sent them an encrypted message?
-
I think u need to send an encrypted message. Or maybe just make a few more posts around here, let them get familiar with you.
-
How long has it been since you sent them? Do their profiles say they were "last seen" today?
Most established vendors only care about encrypting when it comes to addresses or sensitive information. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-
the first vendor replied. Thanks for the responses, I thought i messed up before even making a purchase.
-
vendors are selling a shit ton of product per day, it takes them a while to reply
-
We respond quickly, but remember, this isn't amazon. Some people take their time.
Also, if I saw that... I would reluctantly answer yes, and just ask you to buy it, depending on the item. Often times you need to just check the vendor page and read their terms and rules.
I have no problem selling to someone I feel fishy about if they FE.
-
I've read every profile of vendors that I have an interest in buying from, and all the wikis.
I know they are busy, I just thought I messed up before even making an order.

nahh, if you're actually buying stuff they dont mind
-
i enjoy to buy from people with short advertisements. only product info. they will also sell to new people because otherwise they would say it somewhere.
-
Sometimes vendors can take a while to respond. Some are on on top of replying to messages. Others are busy doing other things. I wouldn't take it personally.
-
most reply in a timely manor , some are just dicks if your a newbie, im not gonna name names.
-
Give them 48 hours time, if they don't answer, just write them ah pm that you can choose where you buy from, there are so much vendors here so maybe he thinks about it, but vendors which have over 15 feedback on one day have a lot of work, give them time and otherwise choose ah other one!
if you have question's i am also ah vendor and could help you to write with the vendor only if you are a straight guy!!!
greetings

Yeah some don't seem to friendly to new guys.
But if vendor hasn't bothered to reply you're best of buying from someone else.
-
...mostly, the vendors I've sent messages to have been pretty good communicators to this lowly newby...... :D
-
i have ah vendor and ah buyer account!
i write to a vendor i want to buy bulk!
In his vendor profile stands, i want to sell bulk, so message me if you want to buy bulk!
no answer at all!
So i write with my vendor account, i got ah answer within 12 hours!
But thats the road, you have to check the system, always be friendly, don't scam!
I see the road like ah little country! If on the road every 3rd person scam= Anarchy and the road will be closed or become very strictly rules!
Just see it like that, now you are only ah farmer, with 10 transaction you are ah knight, with 50 transactions you are ah local famous star and with 100 transaction your are a pornstar, lOl
-
Why not try doing a couple of cheap lottery games and then at least you will a transaction or two on your account, with this people may feel more inclined to do business with you? Good luck

Hey! What's wrong with farmers!?! ;)
I accept orders from new users and old users alike.
From a vendor's perspective a brand new user buying a lower priced item is actually low risk since they have little potential effect on feedback rankings. I am not sure all vendors realize this though.
A new buyer is potentially quite valuable to a vendor. If you can blow their mind with a great product and service then you may have earned a customer for life.
Don't sweat the first purchase too hard. Pick a vendor with a good rep (you are on the forums so I don't doubt you have made some good choices), use escrow, encrypt your address, and just order it. Worst case you get cancelled and try someone else. The majority of deals here happen with no communication between the buyer and seller, other then an encrypted address.
-
Like everyone else said, just be patient and you will get a response.
A lot of vendors prefer you to use encryption on messages. If they have a public key in their profile, it is there for a reason; they want you to use it. I'm sure many vendors simply delete non-encrypted messages.
-
another newbie here! gosh, it took me over two weeks to get this far lol now all thats left is to set up my bitcoin side of things and start contacting vendors! my vendor choice will be a little leaner though as im only planning to shop domestically..
how does the karma score work?
-
Vendors are going to be very reluctant to new buyers in the coming weeks. If I were all you newbies, I'd make some transactions and fast.
There's going to be a flood of people as many articles are being published on the clearnet about the silkroad. Vendors aren't going to be happily dealing with curious 13 year olds.

MtGox worked fine for me. I have a friend that exchanges for me though.
-
cheers! mtgox was the first place i registered.. but somewhere along the lines ive been overwhelmed with information and ended up wondering if i'd done the right thing!
-
You're first time is always the hardest. Good luck, hope you enjoy the road :).
-
actually, mtgox requires my bank a/c name to match the username.. not keen on that idea.. what about another avenue where I can just cash deposit at a bank? Sorry, im probably hijacking in the wrong thread now ;)

I always read a vendors profile completely before placing an order. Also, check their feedback comments. This will give you a good idea of what to expect when ordering from that vendor. Many of them will list their requirements for new buyers. You may be asked to finalize early as a new buyer. Most people will tell you not to FE but if it's a reputable vendor, you'll probably be okay. Just don't finalize any more money than you are willing to lose because you have no way to get it back.
Your options will be a bit more limited for the first few transactions, but after you've been around a few months and have 10 or more successful transactions, then more vendors will sell to you. However, you'll find the top vendors with the best products will often sell out within a few hours. You'll want to become a fan of those vendors and keep a close watch on their profile when you want to buy their product.
-
I did it for a few orders, to ask if it was OK to not FE being a newbie, and always had an answer. :)
-
Vendors are often very busy, give them a couple days to reply.

Uh. . . that would be a resounding NO on "A lot of vendors prefer you to use encryption on messages" . . . . And, bullshit on, "I'm sure many vendors simply delete non-encrypted messages"
When we are busy the last thing we need is a n00b sending an encrypted message that needs to be decrypted to find out that the n00b would like to order! Vendors are more likely to delete an encrypted first message from a noob than to ever delete a non-encrypted message!
The only need for encryption is to keep "sensitive info" like your real name & address safe. There's not much other reason here, so don't think you are protecting yourself & the vendor by using PGP for basic messaging . . . it's totally unnecessary, & a waste of the vendor's time, which means slowing down the process of getting orders out to customers sooner! It all adds up!

there is no need to use encryption on non sensitive information it just creates unnecessary hassles
-

Most vendors take 1-3 days to reply in my experience.
-
In my experience I would check what the vendors policy regarding orders from low stat accounts.Make sure you agree with their terms and then place the order.
I would not bother sending a message to vendors who have terms on their profile (they take the time to write the profiles to try and keep the FAQ's to a minimum)
It would be worth checking through the last ten pages of feedback on the vendor page to check that they are active sellers and that they have had recent high success rates...
Good luck!
