Title: Pre/Post Commission global and PER LISTING
Post by: Shroomeister on July 12, 2012, 11:02 pm
I am a rather new vendor here and have already found a need for this. Sorry if it had already been mentioned. The idea is as simple as stated in the subject, but allow me to give you a scenario.

I am a new vendor so I wheel and deal to get me rep up.

Customer #1 - "I have $62.18USD, in my SR accnt. Can you sell me X for the $62.18?"

ME - "Yeah sure I'll do that, I'll create you a stealth listing in order to stay within the SR system of escrow and feedback"

ME - I go to create a listing for every red cent this buyer is offering as it is a hell of a deal. I get "stuck" because there is no way to make this one listing for an exact price (SR fees included).

so instead -
1) I set a price, publish the stealth listing.
2) View it to see what it comes to with SR fees.
3) Its too much/ not enough.
4) I go back edit the listing.
5)View again....
6) repeat steps 1 through 4 until price is reached or just give up and leave it as "close enough."

If I am missing something and there is a way to do this, then please; by all means disregard this idea and just inform me how to do it.

.....I just had the thought now. What if I change the global setting, create a listing the way I want, then go back and change the global setting BACK to "pre-commision"??

This would still be cumbersome.

anyway. thanks.

I have run into the same issue and for the most part do exactly as you outlined.

I mean I would imagine that SR is actually cutting themselves OUT of some deals, just because of the PITA that this process is

customer) I have $64.12
Vendor) just send it to this coin address .....

I have NOT  done that as I respect SR, but im sure soo many people do just because of how difficult that process was for me.

In the end I am now more likly to refuse that business, just because of the process. :(

Wouldn't it be easier to set post-commission pricing? You already know the price you want, just pull up a calculator and tack on the SR-fee yourself. You are asking for a major redesign to save you some effort, when just a little effort is all it takes to fix the problem yourself. That way, you can set a post-commission listing for your customer then reverse the calculation to see how much you're really getting paid, and pin the amount to that.

Seriously, you're taking far more steps than is necessary.

NO. I am asking to be able to set the pre/post on a PER a listing basis. Not just the current global setting that is in place now. I am asking for a minimal setting change in the name of keep money in SR. As I said I have never gone out side, but IM SURE that people do, on the regular in the name of easier.....

but I guess I didnt explain myself clearly enough. Sorry about that.

I understand what you would like, and to a certain degree I agree with you. But while it doesn't exist at the moment, wouldn't it just be easier to use post-commission pricing?
Or, hell, you could just... say a customer has 40 dollars and wants to buy some stuff from you. So what you do, you assume that $40 is 110% of what you'll receive, to compensate for the fee. So then, 40/11*10=What you get paid. Use a calculator and figure it out nice and quick like that. The SR fees are, to a large degree, very predictable. Adjusting for them isn't a hassle.

I understand the math around what you are saying. I suppose this may go back to ME NOT understanding something I mentioned in my original post.

IF I change my pre/post commission in order to create a new listing.....doesn't this effect ALL my current listings?

If the answer is NO it doesnt effect any listing I have already created and have active...then problem solved. (not the sexyiest way, but solved non the less)

If it DOES change all my active listings, then I still argue that there should be a pre/post commission setting on a PER listing basis. Along with the global setting...or hell...you could even do away with the global setting at that point.

I really don't think this would be some massive code re-write as you have implied, I think it would just be a matter of making the database table available to the listing level and not just one table per a vendor account. Not saying it wouldn't take a little work, but its not a massive code over haul.

Finally I think its worth reiterating that this scenario is rare. even rarer for me now as I establish my vendordom. (lol)

but I do think that there ARE people that can not do the math as you outlined (or feel that they can not be bothered with it) and then go AROUND the SR escrow, just to make it "easier" for them. I would imagine that this amounts to more B⃦ lost then the SR admins would care to ever admit or truly realize.

I stand by my suggestion that one evening of code modification could potentially increase SR admin income substantially.

But otherwise, im ok with out it. ;)
