I'm either missing something that should be really obvious or just don't realize that this is intentional, but even when I check save to outbox or whatever it says when I send a private message on these forums, I don't see a way to ever read this message again.
If this is intentional for security reasons, whoops. I didn't realize.
If there IS a way to see these, how do I do it? I can see which messages I have and haven't responded to but I wanted to re-read something that I sent somebody. Is there some really obvious way to do this that I'm missing?

There's a "Sent Items" selection in the dropdown under My Messages / Messages that works for me, provided I've remembered to "Save a copy in my outbox" when sending.
Also, the forum was offline for maintenance for several hours a couple of days ago -- during which time a post of mine seems to have gone missing -- so maybe something similar happened to you? If nothing else works, you might be able to keep copies by including yourself as one of the recipients; kind of crude, but (usually) effective.

Welp, that's it. Something I missed that should have been obvious. Thanks, thread over, etc...

No, you have to check the box "save item."
-
If you bothered to read the OP you would see that he is checking that box.

Replying to an old thread I know, however it would be nice if saving sent messages automatically to one's outbox were the "default" option on the Forums.
It wasn't until I just searched and found this thread that I realized checking the "save message to outbox" option was even there. That fixed my issue. I can only imagine it must be an issue of storage space on the server itself, because again, like on the SR site itself (and most other forums) it is the default option.
Perhaps this belongs in "Feature requests" instead? Feel free to move if need be Mod's. :)

From a security standpoint it's probably better they aren't saved. Should the database ever get leaked and decrypted you wouldn't want all that private info around, though I hope ppl are using GPG

and madmamail,
That is indeed still the inherent issue with using the SR Private Messaging system alone, without GPG. I can already tell from the 2-3 weeks we have been in business as a vendor, using the SR PM system alone is the preferred method of communication for the majority of SR users. Likely due to it's simplicity (just like hushmail) and also likely due to the additional effort involved in learning GPG. Although there are also MANY new users very curious about learning to use GPG, which is great, and we at least do our very best to aid these users in doing so.
In the case the SR sever(s) were ever comprmised in "any" way I don't think anyone would want "any" of the information on the site just layin around, encrypted or not. Unless there are 24 hour security guards protecting the SR server(s), there is always the possibility of LE using "freeze-spray" and RAM to bypass encryption to obtain passwords to access any otherwise 'encryoted' information on the servers.
In that light, we don't feel "any" information should just be "laying around", but at least "sent" pm's would be up to the discrection of the user to delete if they choose. It's more a customers private shipping information than sent pm's that concern us. (although they could be one and the same of course).
I think it's is probably more an honest, accidental "fluke" on behalf on the DR staff that this feature is not enabled more than anything.
