Starting May 25th, if you are a user of Dwolla it will be required you verify your Mtgox.com account. I'm a little concerned for my anonymity, should I be?
-
You could just use bitinstant. You can make your cash deposit at any walmart using a blue money gram order. That goes through almost instantly and then you have the funds in your Mtgox account
-
Buying bitcoins is completely legal, so I wouldn't be worried about them knowing who you are. It depends tho, do you believe LE in your country have the time to investigate everyone who buys bitcoins? If not then they would only know you buy bitcoins when they've already caught you for something.

Thanks for the advice, I just might do that. New to all this.

That was my general line of thinking too, just worried I might be missing something. Thanks for your input.

Go to walmart. Use a fake name and address.
I did this, came up with an addy off the top of my head. The lady knew i was bsing(Told me the zipcode I entered is for another city), didnt ask to see an id or anything.
Only downfall is that they charge like a 4% fee on top of a 3.95 charge for the zipzap crap.
but when it comes to anonymous bitcoin purchases thats pretty good

What info would I need exactly if I were to try this? My MtGox account, anything else?

you technically dont even need a mtgox account, you could deposit directly into your SR wallet, or your own personal wallet.
All you really need is a mtgox account/wallet to send it to, and then just your own personal information(faked). Name, address, date of birth, etc.
CVS usually asks for ID but walmart doesnt, if they do just bail and go to a different location.
-
Getting verified means linking your bank account. I don't care how legal bitcoins are I say its bad idea to go that route.

Are you saying I could walk into a walmart with literally nothing but cash in hand and my SR btc wallet number and be able to deposit into my SR bitcoin account? Walmart can deposit bitcoin??? If i'm misunderstanding something please walk me through. Thx

@MikeDealman
No you can not deposit BTC at/with walmart...You can use walmart to send $$ to your Mtgox account[i think first you send the money to DWOLLA and from there to Mtgox]...
We send from our bank account money to a Mtgox bank account. When we make this payment we attach to this payment a unique code[this code is unique for every Mtgox account] which tell Mtgox to send the money to our account. When we receive the funds we can buy BTC from Mtgox market which is very easy. You just place an order with the average price in that moment and you have your BTC in minutes in your wallet.
Yes it is Ok to be verified by Mtgox. You can be sure nobody try to scam you in this way

Wow!
There seems to be some serious confusion here.
Go to MtGox
Funding Options to Add Funds
Drop Menu Choose BitInstant
Scroll Down
Follow the link above your account number to bitinstant.com
At the top you'll select Moneygram from the drop menu
Fill out the form (note: max deposit with this method is $500USD)
Yes, you can use a fake DOB and a burner email, this email is only used to send you confirmations of the steps you are about to take
Click Send Funds and
On the next page, Click Go
You'll be transferred to ZipZap
You'll enter a burner phone # and your burner email and your zip code
You'll get a map and list view of moneygram locations nearby to choose from
Choose one and click Create Payment Slip
Print this slip and take it with you
You'll follow directions on the phone at the moneygram location
You'll have to set up your fake moneygram account the first time you do it but then going forward you'll be identified by using your phone number as your account number when using the moneygram phone
Note: If the place you go to asks for ID, fuck it, say you forgot it and just go somewhere else if you have to
And once it's set up and done once, the Send Code to ZipZap will also be stored in your MoneyGram account
Can't get much easier than that
After you finish the moneygram, you'll get home to find the funds in your MtGox Account
I hope this clarifies something for someone
If this was helpful, give me karma please.

Yep, tis is the basic procedure, however, I send my coin directly to SR. Not as safe I guess considering if someone gets access to your SR account that BTC is gone, but its simpler I guess.
and you can check if your order is going thru on blockchain
Usually takes a little while for your money to reach silk road because it bounces around a lot of spots for anonymity

Great thank you. How to give karma?
-
haha, you need over 100 posts to give karma.
hilarious, i didn't even realize that
anyway, added note:
I like to use instawallet after mtgox and before SR to add another layer on anonymity
but DON'T LOSE YOUR URL to your instawallet or you'll lose all your bitcoins
worth the extra time, also extra security.
harder to trace.
i think directly to sr account would make me nervous

I dont really think it adds anything security wise to use another wallet between SR, but if it gives you peace of mind then its always better.

thanks for letting me keep my peace of mind.
i agree adding one wallet doesn't but if you send it from one instawallet to another instawallet then it's been anonymitized twice in a system that cannot be traced
anonymitized- it's fake i know

At first, getting bitcoins can seem like a daunting task--it isn't. Follow these instructions:
-- To start, open a throwaway account with Mt. Gox at https://mtgox.com/. No need to verify this account unless you're gonna be trading big money.
-- Go to "funding options/add funds"
-- Use the drop-down menu to select "BitInstant," which will give you instructions and your account number.
-- Go to BitInstant at https://www.bitinstant.com/
-- The reason you need a Mt. Gox account is that BitInstant doesn't sell bitcoins; you must trade for them at Mt. Gox. BitInstant allows you to immediately fund your Mt. Gox account so you can start trading.
-- Use the drop-down menu to select "cash deposit" and choose a local retailer, such as Wal-Mart or CVS.
-- Fill in your info and you will download a .pdf file with information for filling out a blue MoneyGram slip at Wal-Mart. Basically, you're "paying a bill" to ZipZap, Inc. and you will be entering their four-digit receive code and account number on the form. Use your real name, address, etc. on the MoneyGram. It doesn't matter, since everything will be laundered and untraceable by the time it gets to Silk Road. Use fake info for your Mt. Gox account, although I don't think it matters. Some people use fake names on the MoneyGram. I guess it doesn't make any difference, since they don't require ID. I used my real info because I was afraid of the transaction being flagged or cancelled.
-- Go to your local retailer, fill out the MoneyGram with the info provided from BitInstant, and pay for it with cash. There is a $3.95 fee.
-- You money will appear in your Mt. Gox account within 4 minutes--1 hour at the most (never takes that long).
-- Use the "trade" button to buy bitcoins.
-- Go to "funding options/withdraw" and use the drop-down menu to select "bitcoins" as your currency. Enter the amount and bitcoin address from Silk Road (find that on your SR account page--looks like this: 1GDGgeTfNrxdhmJokSP7EqVRZGXSFuSnfp)
-- If you have 5.67 bitcoins with Mt. Gox, transfer 5.66 to cover the transaction fee. Select the option for faster transfer (0.005 BTC).
-- It may take several hours for your bitcoins to show up, but they will. Once they are in your SR wallet, you're ready to order.
I hope this helps. This is the fastest, most reliable way that I've found to get bitcoins. If you bank with a major financial institution, you also have the option of transfering funds directly to BitInstant. While this doesn't involve leaving the house and taking out cash, I'm not sure if it's any slower than using a MoneyGram. One drawback to this method is that you have to provide BitInstant with your banking username and password (scary!) BitInstant is reputable, but that is just information that I don't want to release.
Let me know if you have questions or problems. I discovered Silk Road less than two weeks ago and spent an evening teaching myself all about Tor browsers, bitcoins, PGP, and everything else. It takes some doing, but it is worth it. Read the feedback, forums, encrypt your address, and don't FE. (Download Portable PGP at http://ppgp.sourceforge.net/, which has a very user-friendly interface.) While address encryption is not strictly necessary, it adds an extra layer of security to your purchase. I've had three flawless transactions and I couldn't be happier.

Wow, good detailed info thanks. One question. If I'm using bitinstant what would prevent me from depositing directly into my SR account?
-
I don't bother, I use tumbler for making tracing harder but other than that there is nothing illegal about buying bitcoins.
-
Damn new AML/CTF laws. But as TreeTunk says 'It's not illegal to buy Bitcoins'.
-
Wow, good detailed info thanks. One question. If I'm using bitinstant what would prevent me from depositing directly into my SR account?
BitInstant doesn't sell bitcoins--it is a means of immediately funding your Mt. Gox account so you can purchase bitcoins there. There are other options for funding your Mt. Gox account, but BitInstant seems to be the fastest and easiest.

K I think I get what you're saying and maybe I'm being stupid, but on the bitinstant site there is an option to deposit directly to a bitcoin address.. What would prevent me from just doing that?

I use coinbase. I'd use that or bit instant.

Yes, there is that option, but you would be depositing U.S. dollars since that is what you're sending them. The only way to obtain bitcoins is through an exchange.
Here's the fine print on BitInstant:
"BitInstant is a payment processor for various Bitcoin exchanges and other merchants. Customers of these exchanges and other merchants can easily make a payment to them by using BitInstant, that is an agent and payment processor for those exchanges and other merchants. BitInstant receives money for exchanges and other merchants through various payment systems such as [Dwolla, Liberty Reserve, TrustCash, PayPal]. In receiving those funds, BitInstant acts as an agent and payment processor for various exchanges and other merchants, such as [MtGox, ...]. Funds can be available in as little as 15 minutes and are typically available within one hour at the exchange or other merchant selected by the Customer. All payments are processed automatically.
"Bitcoin exchanges sell Bitcoin. BitInstant does not sell Bitcion. Instead, BitInstant assists exchanges and other merchants in receiving payment from Customers in the most efficient way known.
"All BitInstant transactions are subject to the Customer Terms of Use and Privacy Policy provided on this site"

Thanks a bunch. I didn't know it was possible to deposit cash to a bitcoin address. I imagined whatever funds I sent to my bitcoin address would be automatically transferred to bitcoin somehow. I got an account with mtgox

To tell you the truth, I don't know what would happen if you sent dollars from BitInstant to your SR BTC wallet, but I'm fairly certain that your money wouldn't automatically turn into bitcoins.
Well ... whatever. You have your Mt. Gox account now and you should be just about ready.
-
MTGOX requires verification before you can touch the coins in your account. They require both ID and proof of residency. They won't accept pictures from iphones, must be scans. They won't accept utility bills more than 3 months old. They are dead serious about the process. It also takes a significant amount of time. Don't expect to create an MTGOX account one day, fund it, and then immediately start moving coins around. I would expect at least a weeks time. I'm starting to become a bit weary of Gox. For holding your savings, their cold storage account is great. But for coins you want to move around quickly and often they are becoming very difficult to deal with in a timely manner.
-
I think you'll find that it's not MtGox doing this because they fancy fucking you all off. It's more to do with this *clearweb* http://www.fincen.gov/statutes_regs/guidance/pdf/FIN-2013-G001.pdf
