As long as the letter is under 1 oz in weight you can send it first class with one stamp. If you think it might be heavier than that, go to your post office and have them weigh it, Up to 2 oz is $0.61, 3 oz is $0.78, and 3.5 oz is $0.95. If you only have a short message to send, consider a postcard. It will only cost you $0.28 to mail.

use the usps postage advisor tool located on their site. There are other factors (thickness) that can affect postage.

KindBud is correct; use the shipping tool on www.usps.com (though I advise you don't do it through TOR-- personal preference) and apply the correct postage. If it's very noticeably fat/thick you could apply another stamp but I would recommend taking it to the PO to get the official cost in that case.

Generally 6x9 bubble mailers cost $1.71 which is just under 4x $.44 stamps ($1.76). 4 regular stamps should do. But make sure for your letter before you mail it as lots of extra postage is one of the things that flags a parcel as suspicious. You can use USPS.com to calculate it as has been mentioned or take it to one of the automated postage machines that are in the lobby of many post offices. Just make sure to put your wallet in front of the camera in the console pointing directly up at your face.
