Title: free computer!

i got mine for free! nice old as hell gift! thought that counts! now it has a dvd player(i think) how can i check all the stats are they located anywhere all at once i need to know if i have a cd/r;dvd/r  i want to put TAILS onto u USB and dont have a virtual machine! help!

Go into Control Panel and in there you will be able to find out the stats of your cpu.

hit your start menu if your new(old) machine has windows as its OS, then go to computer, then in the upper left of the screen you should see a clickable link system properties..click that, all of the machine's properties will be displayed.

also if i get a blank usb stick do i put linux then tails or is tails the os that i start with? if so its probly easiest to buy tails ona dvd (if its safe) and go from there right?

Hold the windows key and press Pause / Pause Break button to bring up specs!

Hey mate, almost got the right idea. Tails is a complete operating system, no need to install linux prior to tails. Burn the iso file to a DVD and then run tails from that disc. Make sure your booting option is set to boot from DVD rom. Once in tails, insert your USB and select "Tails USB installer" in the "System Tools" menu. After it's cloned, restart your computer, set your boot sequence to USB, take out the CD and you're done!
