On paper there great providing the right types of light or right nm of light meaning the plant can use all of the light omitted by the bulbs however the intensity and more importantly the penetration isnt anywhere near that of hps meaning every time my hps results have been better than led.

this was 600w led vs 600w hps (the led claims to be equivilent to almost 1200w of hps) simply not true they may have a use in an application such as a scrog (screen of green) where the canopy is very even and penetration isnt as important or even Sog (sea of green) with smaller plants but i havent tested this.

hope this helps

Are LED lamps cheaper to run than conventional sodium lamps? Or is it much the same?

LED's are much cheaper electricity wise, but , like BigD said, unless your sogging or scrogging the light penetration just aint gonna cut it.
