Hey there guys,
after being hacked for 50 coins about a week ago we have done EVERYTHING in our power to protect our remaining assets.
We created a new SR account c20h25n3ol and have transferred all of our remaining coin to this name.
SO, in my infinite wisdom today (or my growing paranoia) I decided to withdraw those coins to the linux Bitcoin.org wallet.
This was a little over 180 minutes ago (3 hours) and STILL there is no record of the transaction even being made to the local wallet.
Do you guys use this program to save excess BTC regularly? And if so does it just take a while for coin to be shuffled around??
I upped the transaction fee to .10 BTC per KB being that a single transaction shouldn't be more than 1-2.5KB. I figured that this would speed up the process.
Any tips, pointers or even just thoughts to clear my mind would be helpful @ this point.
I can't even begin to imagine how fucking pissed I'll be if I end up losing 100BTC in a matter of 7 days.
Thanks for your time fellas,
-jtemp
(Also, please vendors, look at my transaction record for JTEMP102311 when deciding whether or not to accept transactions from c20h25n3ol! I feel like an outcast!)

It usually takes at least 3 hours for my coins to come through, usually more like 4-5

You also won't see coins until your client updates the blockchain. If you just installed a new bitcoin-qt in linux that can take up to 1-2days for it to fully download and synch
If you are really worried about security use the Armory bitcoin offline client.
You manually send transactions, nobody can get at your wallet

I will try the armory.
Dude one last question, I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the qt-coin client about five times in the past few hours. False temp directories have fucked up a lot of the new installs so I've had to go through the filesystem to manually delete these for the installation to proceed.
OK, SO- I am stuck @ 97%, but WHY every time that I install the qt-btc client do I not have to enter any credentials? It seems as if it automatically links me with my previous account and all of my saved addresses. This is even when I have deleted the old installs previous directories? I have installed from a fresh and clean install from bitcoin.org.
I am not VERY versed in the ways of the computer, but I feel as if I know enough to get around.. at least I thought I did.
Now, when I check blockexplorer.com I get this::
First seen?: BlXXXXXXXXXX 17XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX3)
Received transactions: 1
Received BTC: XXXXXX
Sent transactions: 0
Sent BTC: 0
Hash160?: 5dfXXXXXXXXXXXX2cXXXXXXXXXX4dXXXXXXXXXXXe6f6d
Public key?:
Unknown (not seen yet)
I blocked out sensitive information with XXX's obviously. BUT did I need to assign a public key to this transaction for it to go through? AND why does it say RECEIVED TRANSACTIONS = MY TRANSFERRED BTC... but SENT TRANSACTIONS = STAY AT ZERO
I really am just trying to learn this once so I don't have to go through this bullshit again.
I am really stumped.
Will try the armory next time I do this.

Linux your bitcoin info is all kept in your home directory in wallet.dat
So if you don't erase it, or generate a new one when you launch it the first time it will just read the old .dat file
Can delete it with rm ~/wallet.dat but bad idea if anything you want to keep in there, like previously generated addresses.
Can always copy it to another directory for a backup, then delete ~/wallet.dat
Restart bitcoin and it will say no wallet.dat found generate new Y/n?
I just download the bitcoin client from the website, unarchive it and click BIN->32->bitcoin-qt I didn't use the debian apt-get install bitcoind to get it.
EDIT.. there's another way to get at your coins. Download the Electrum mini client and you can manually edit electrum.dat to put in your bitcoin information. It will instantly show coins available it doesn't download the block chain.
Only works if you didn't encrypt the other wallet.dat

check it VIA blockchain.info
I use there wallet, but fuck on wednesday I had the worst luck ever, strongcoin had problems in there back end, and my 50 btc were not showing up..
but after emailing the owner they fixed the issue, and then I made a blockchain account and there system fucked up again and deleted my identifier, luckily I had backed up my wallet so I was able to make a new account and have my 100 btc in limbo back... I was so happy with the quick responses from blockchain that I ended up donating a btc to the guy that helped me.
