Title: PROPOSAL to fix Sellers that cancel orders due to BTC fluctuations
Post by: performance on July 06, 2011, 07:44 am
If the Seller cancels an order, and the USD value of BTC has changed by 10% or more from the original order, then the Buyer should be allowed to leave feedback. If its a legitimate cancel, the Buyer and Seller can communicate to figure out what an appropriate feedback should be. If the Buyer simply cancels the order with no explanation, or the explanation is that the BTC price changed too much, the Buyer can voice their protest via the feedback system.

Another idea is that if the Seller cancels, and BTC has changed by more than 10%, the Buyer receives their coin back plus half of the difference in value. For example, if the order was worth $50 USD at the time it was placed, and is down to $40 when the Seller cancels, the cost for allowing the Seller to cancel would be $5 USD (half of the difference $50-$40) expressed in BTC. If the Seller has insufficient balance then they cannot cancel.

A seller has the right to cancel any order at their discretion. Whether it be BTC dropping or they just dont like someone.
Your best bet is to find a legit vendor that wont cancel your order when that happens.

Good idea, But how frequently does that happen with canceled orders?

Vendors have plenty of good reasons to cancel an order and that is their right. No one can force them to send you drugs.
No one should get feedback on a transaction that has not occured.
Your BTC still would have lost value sitting in your SR account or sitting in escrow.

BTC fluxuation affects us all. Your only option is that same as the Vendors..accept that you lost money or wait for the market to swing back up.

BULLSHIT. The transaction did occur, at least in part. At the moment that you purchase the goods, your bitcoins are placed into escrow, and unavailable to you to spend elsewhere.

There is an implied contract there. You say that the BTC still would have lost value, and that is certainly true. However, you forget the scenario where there are two vendors offering the same product at the same price. Placing an order with the vendor who cancels prevents you from placing the order with the vendor who doesn't cancel.

At least with feedback, you have some idea about who the canceling sellers are. Without feedback, you have no clue.

Buyers need a way to know if sellers tend to cancel.

One solution, that doesn't involve feedback, is to show the percentage of the seller's canceled orders over time, plotted against BTC fluctuations. If there is a correlation between BTC drops and canceled orders, then at least a buyer knows that their transaction will have a greater chance of getting canceled if BTC goes down.

Generally if a seller cancels without a good explanation I don't want to use them again.   Too much of a hassle...yeah, they got the right...but it'd be the same as if I started canceling buys, just because a cheaper seller comes along...yah gotta play nice or this system won't work.  I've had a few cancelations for different reasons...sometimes new sellers, but it never mattered all that much.  ONce I get product tho, I release escrow within the hour.

What is bullshit is you think this is amazon or ebay or some such nonsense.
You have no recourse..buy from someone else.
At least you didn't get robbed/shot out in the street trying to buy a little something from a gang member.
STFU with your "implied contracts"
Maybe next time you order something LE will show up and you can tell them all about your implied contracts, see what they think.
