Title: Inheriting a Seller Account
Post by: DreDri on November 01, 2012, 05:33 pm
This isn't an 'asking for a friend' type of question, I literally saw two friends discussing it in another forum. Let me make up names.

Al is a successful SR vendor. He's had Steve help him fulfill orders, manage finances, etc. often it seems.

Al says I can't do this, I've got two kids, a wife and a mortgage. I'm not losing that over a half dozen sheets of acid and some bath salts. He suggests Steve take over the business. If Steve agrees, does this violate any rule? Is it a gray-area, unspoken just-don't-do-it?

There are plenty of variables such as informing customers of the change, what happens if the new operator scams or just doesn't feel like it and thus leaves people relying on him.

I'll go find that thread again and see what they agreed on - in the meantime, I'm curious to hear where people think the line should be drawn - if at all?

I'd say it would be all right in this situation, since Steven has worked as hard as Al to earn the rep that the vendor account has built up and knows how to carry through with the obligations of the account. Provided he will serve people with the same level of quality as was expected when he was partnered with Al (which may mean more work on Steve's part), I believe that this is a rational decision.

I believe the type of vendor account sharing that SHOULD be banned is the selling of accounts. Feedback, fans, and reputation should not just be handed to the highest bidder. It HAS to be earned. For the maintenance of the site, vendor account selling must be prohibited.

yes, i havent received clarification from support but i believe selling vendor accounts is prohibited

however, as long as you are not buying the account it should be ok to just take over for the person who purchased the account

Silk Road can prohibit the selling of vendor accounts on the road or the forums, but they cannot control it any more than that. Because vendors are anonymous, an account can change hands and nobody will notice (except if service suddenly decreases or increases).

Any rules governing it will be nearly impossible to enforce. It's just something you have to take into account.
