► ☠ KNOWN SCAM SITES/SCAMMERS: ☠
Use any one of these and you WILL LOSE 100% of your money!
Scam detection #1 - If they spam the forums with new ads and have low post counts <100, they are SCAMMERS!
◾ SCAM Sites: (Like a SAM site, except instead of shooting down planes, they shoot down hope.)
☣ www.bitinme.com - Lists ads as "10 bitcoin = $xxx! Send in 1 to 10 mins!" - it's a scam, Sam. Guaranteed 100% loss.
☣ bitswing.com - (Only thing swinging will be your emotions from OMG to OMFG!)
☣ bitcointalks.com (bitcointalk.org is a legitimate forum, but "bitcointalks.com" is a scam. LOL @ "talks")
☣ virwex.com (virwox is/was an exchange, but "virwex" is a scam. See the "i" where an "o" should be?)
☣ btkoin.com ("Koin?" WTF. If they can't spell, then all they can do is count. Count how much they stole from you. )
☣ mtgix.com (Mtgox.com is a legit exchange - the largest. "Mtgix.com" is a scam. See the "i" where an "o" should be?)
☣ [CENSORED: spam link].com (They usually space the letters out like this... E M O C O E . C O M)
☣ Bitcoratio.com (Spamming & scamming - bit co ratio dot com<--in case forum filter filters out URL)
◾ SCAM SR Vendors:
☣ BankofCoins: http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/messages/send_message/29eccb55ff - BANNED
◾ Use With Caution:
Bitcoins (UK SR Vendor) - http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/user/c536b90105 - seems to be taking longer than usual to fill orders and reading but not answering messages. Could be flooded with orders and is unable to keep up. People who have had multiple past experiences report things going sour recently.
And now you know. Avoid these like the toxic soulless plagues they are. ☣

► GUIDES:
⚀ MedicineWoman (Vendor) - Guide on how to anonymously transfer BTC to SR: http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/item/2f9f85aa35
◍▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬◍
► WIKIs and FORUMS:
And of course, the Bitcoin Trading Wiki as a resource to all the different ways to trade BTC.
And then we have the Currency Exchange on BitcoinTalk forums.
◍▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬◍
► How to check on a transfer:
Look up your Bitcoin receive address on the Bitcoin block explorer (block chain). You simply enter your receive address (SR account address or wallet address). Generally after 6 confirmations, the transfer is considered complete. That can take anywhere from 30 mins to a few hours.
⚀ blockchain.info

nice post, will come in handy to a lot of ppl :)
-
www.btcquick.com seems to be working pretty good and u can pay with credit card. Do all the sites listed above require a bank account as I don't have one and don't plan on it either. What sites can I get btc from without bank account other than LocalBitcoins.com? Whish Bitinstant would hurry and reopen!
-
None should require a bank account unless you are looking to turn BTC to cash (cash out). Localbitcoin uses the most methods to convert cash to BTC. Not heard of a bank account being required for use on localbitcoins.
-
www.virwox.com
-
Thanks Jack. Added.
-
+Karma. With Bitinstant down for the count, this is a needed infosheet.
-
I just did a wire to MTgox. I am waiting for it to post and once it does I am not to sure what to do with it?????
-
R.I.P. BITINSTANT
-
MTGox can be tricky and is usually the first point of attack when it comes to government compliance. That's why we didn't list them.
-
I will try to use one on the list. I am waiting for my 200 usd wire to show up in my MTgox acct. Scary sending money to Japan!
-
Added the Bitcoin Trading wiki which has just about every place and which details what forms of payment accepted.
-
Added the Currency Exchange on BitcoinTalk Forums.
-
any preferences? any of those work like bitinstant?
and does anyone know when bitinstant will be back up? and should it work the same?
-
Added the Currency Exchange on BitcoinTalk Forums.
thanks yea localbitcoin.com worked great for me last time I used it. There are lots of btc sellers and all you have to do is look for one that accepts your form of payment. I registered with a tormail addy and used a boa deposit. It was very fast. When I got back from the bank I was able to send my new coin to any address I chose. That was 2 weeks ago and I may be taking another look at them soon
-
do the local bitcoin people accept orders of like 40$?
-
I'm pretty sure most would accept $40 orders for bitcoins. The minimum is usually $20 for most places.
-
is solidtrade trusted by any of u guys?
-
Is that a vendor or a company? Do you have a link to Solidtrade?
-
Current review-like thread about LocalBitcoins:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=171002.0
-
I am going to be offering a cash service for btc, globally, I can keep the rates pretty low, but min would have to be $500 to make it feasible.
-
Thanks for this wonderful post
-
Do you think it is easier and quicker and more secure to go threw a SR vendor?
-
It's not more secure to go through an SR vendor. Just more convenient. But do your research on them first. The vendor's listed have good feedback from users.
A favorite option besides using vendors is currently using localbitcoins.com

Fixed: RX Kind only does Western Union and not Greendot MoneyPak
⚀ RX King - vendor (Western Union) http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/user/a901074cb3
-
I definitely need this thread, because I fell into a comfort zone using ONLY bitinstant, and I was shocked to learn even the beta site is down/gone!
There are many options listed there. Does anyone have a preference for the most convenient/quickest/easiest way to obtain bitcoin? Time to start my research all over again. Ugh. lol
-
Once you get everything set up Virwox is super easy and super fast. I can usually go from cash in my bank account to bitcoins in my silkroad wallet within 2 hours. The only drawback I have found is they have limits on how much you can deposit in a 24 hour period.

Well if the limits are not unreasonably low, that won't be a problem for me, because I don't usually fund too much at a time, just in case something should go wrong. I like to make smaller deposits anyway.
Do you know if there is another way to fund for this one besides a bank account? Cuz that might be an issue for me. I will definitely be checking it out soon, though. Time to Google. :) Thanks for the recommendation.
-
Localbitcoins seems to be the odds on favorite so far.
-
List Updated. A vendor was removed.
-
Any word on bitmerchant? He is backed by a vendor I trust, so I am trying to find out more info on him. Thinking of trying him tomorrow, as I canceled my local bitcoin meeting. Ugh. I just can't make up my mind, lol. Bitinstant really had me spoiled.
-
Added JumboMonkeyBiscuit - does Reloadit Cards and cash in the mail.
-
I placed an order for bitcoins today with moneyhoney using a MoneyPak reload card.
After about 50 SR transactions, this is the first time I've tried to buy bitcoins on SR.
Although cost is certainly a factor, I looked for a vendor who I could trust.
Moneyhoney's feedback looked good. Will update when my order is filled.
JeanRob
-
Haven't used Moneyhoney, but have used vendor CoinXChange with good results.
To help out newbs, I wrote up two methods for buying bitcoins and anonymously moving them to the Road.
You do not have to order the guide; the information is contained directly in the listing itself, which is at:
http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/item/2f9f85aa35
The reason I'm posting the info in my listing rather than here in the forums is that methods of obtaining
bitcoins change from day-to-day.
The guide is designed for buyers, not vendors, and it assumes no previous knowledge or computer skill.
I've used the procedures outlined in this guide--in the USA--many times with no problems.
Peace,
MedicineWoman
-
+Karma to those who left +karma. Thanks. :)
+ Karma to medicineWoman also for the additional resource. Added to list.
Remember peeps, this is a community resource. So it's open to revision based on your feedback.
-
Ive used CampBX. Pretty quick and accepts money orders

What is the Cheapest way to get bitcoins out of all these? How much does it cost to wire money to japan with mtgox, I was reading it could cost alot? I was thinking about buying off someone from localbitcoins, it seems like 90% sell their bitcoins for more than the current price to make money. Also what is the cheapest way to send money to someone on localbitcoin? I see alot of sellers use okpay and it says it costs .5% to transfer so say you want to send someone $100, so it would cost only $5 to send it?
Sorry about a million questions. Thanks

Is there a way to buy bitcoins with cash, without providing my government issued ID or phone number? Each of the above listed bitcoin resources seem to require absurd amounts of identification.
I am way too paranoid to provide this info to buy bitcoins.

Localbitcoins and a prepaid phone. Walk in a damn bank and do an anonymous and deposit or meet someone and pay cash. No name or ID either way.

Still waiting for my bitcoin order to be filled by Bitmerchant. Worried, because I haven't heard from him or the vendor or backs him since yesterday early afternoon. Hope they are just busy, because I need my order soon. Hope I did not make a bad choice, cuz I have NO more money for a back up order. I will update.
-
I have used BitInstant, BlueSkyTraders, and JumboMonkeyBiscuit.
BitInstant has too many hiccups and astronomical fees.
BST had unpredictable inventory and I never know when they'll be on hiatus.
JumboMonkeyBiscuit is a stand up, professional, quick-fast vendor; I effed up major and he set it all straight ... even after I wigged out on him. JMB's rates are high, but I'll pay up for a piece of mind.
-
Mrbuddha just screwed travelers of the road for thousands this week...stay away...user listings have just been taken down. JMB is money...I miss Sugarmama..where'd she go??
Sugarmama was good people. But it's a low margin business with a lot of headaches. So she probably had her fill. Plus the BTC drop in late spring might have done her out.

Following up on my July 24, 2013 post. . .
I ordered bitcoins from moneyhoney using a Moneypak "GreenDot" reload card. I was a bit nervous considering that I was risking my $400 (plus her commission of 12% or $48). Especially in light of the many recent reports of bitcoin scams, including some scams from previously trusted vendors.
Happily, the bitcoins were in my SR account within a day, at the prevailing exchange rate. A very smooth transaction. Thank-you moneyhoney!

List Update: Added about 5 new places to get BTC from.
-
Attention SILK ROAD:
If you are going to allow BTC vendors and/or venders selling bitcoins to utilize your Silk Road start an escrow for those transactions ASAP. I am sure you have the data, how many BTC listings are ordered then canceled? Out of those canceled, how many souls reported the vendor?
Why can local bit coins do it and not SR? DPR make this a priority!
You see that angry mom on CBS 2 last night? Her son was smart enough to stay high on house arrest but then goes on camera to talk about it, cool story bro! I sure that was GGATZ!
Anyway, if SILK ROAD lets the robberies continue, the victims will become the next thieves because they have no other choice.
We all get high and watch this happen. SILK ROAD lets stop this now. It will never end and only get worse.
THIS NEEDS TO STOP BEFORE IT STOPS SILK ROAD!
WE NEED A EASY RELIABLE WAY TO GET BTC AND THE BAD GUYS ARE MAKING IT HARDER GET BTC OUTSIDE OF SILK ROAD.
YOU ARE FACILITATING THIS BY ALLOWING BTC SALES WITHOUT AN ESCROW SYSTEM!
-
An escrow system for BTC would require the seller of BTC to deposit the bitcoins into SR's BTC receive addy, then tumble it on the way out to the buyer.
Seems easy enough. Except anonymity issues that might crop up. Plus I'm sure there's a hidden pitfall somewhere in there that I can't think of right now. Maybe Astor would know of hand what it is and the problem of implementing something like this on SR.
-
Made a few edits. Mostly formatting ones. No one new to the list.
-
localbitcoins worked alright for me but I agree that a system that is integrated into SR with escrow would be the best option
-
good morning folks - just wanted to relay my positive experience with coinbase.com.
i figured i would hedge my bets on the notion that the acquisition of btc was perfectly legal and an non-suspicious activity and decided to stick with the more publicized exchanges to get my btc. aside from mtgox coinbase is one of the larger and more reputable exchanges, if I remember correctly they were just endowed with a multi-million dollar investment from some venture capitalists, a lot of trust there.
anyway the process with coinbase is simple, albeit a little worrisome for the more paranoid of us what with the requirement of linking your RL bank account and having to wait 4 business days for your first transaction to clear. so I ordered some btc on a saturday and didn't receive it until the following thursday, bought more btc monday which wasn't accessible until friday, the commission was tiny 15 cents for coinbase and some larger percentage for my bank. they say they offer instant transfers to verified members, but don't really indicate what is required to become verified, maybe with more transactions i will be verified and can enjoy the benefits of instant transfers. but after the required wait time my btc showed up as promised, and the best part was I bought them for ~$10 less than they were worth when I received them! Always a good deal there and one of the hidden benefits of having to wait days until you receive them.
when transferring the btc to my personal wallet there was no fee and it took less than 6 confirmations on blockchain before they showed up in my wallet. this may vary with your usage.
all in all i'd recommend coinbase for those who aren't in a hell of a hurry and are looking to do business with the larger players to hedge their bets against being suspicious by being one of the myriad of folks using these services daily.

my pleasure sir!
hope it can help others making their btc choices.

I am here to recommend LOCAL bitcoin all the way! I was nervous about using a new service, due to Bitinstant being down, but even if and when they come back up, I will be using local. I requested my bitcoin from someone with excellent feedback, I met my guy at Starbucks, and the transaction was done on his phone, and I could see my bitcoin instantly appear. It was just so easy and completely painless. I switched to him from another who was charging a bit more, but I believe I also got a decent deal from this person. If you don't want to meet, you can also do it online, but I felt safer meeting and not worrying about moneypaks or similar type ways to fund.
-
I've used Blue Sky Traders before. It's not too reliable as they take breaks for a few days at a time but it is anonymous.

bittylicious... but usually don't let me take more than 2BTC every 24hrs
If you are registered with Bittylicious the current max per visit is 6BTC. Needs a UK bank a/c with fast payment facility. Better prices than UK multi-trader market sites. Simple and effective user interface. Recommended.

I'm with James on this. Bittylicious is amazingly fast, simple and free from the hassles encountered elsewhere.

Added bittylicious and also added new section for known scam sites to avoid.

Whats the popular opinion of using campbx, mt.gox, coinbase verified accounts for SR? They have all your info, should you just limit yourself to small quantities or not even go that route.
I have another question, whats the best way to to get say 300+ give or take, bitcoins in one day.. hypothetically. Not that I will need to but say you did.. Would most of you still go through localbitcoin?
-
find someone who has them localy
-
Bump for knowledge.
-
I guess, it seems, cashing out is the really tricky part.
-
I like CampBX. If you use dwolla you have to wait 30 days to send bitcoins out, but if you do a money order deposit you can send bitcoins as soon as you buy them. What I like about them is their btc are always cheaper than the competition. At this very moment the mtgox weighted avg is $104.46, SR has them valued at $101.97, and you can get them for $96.78 instantly on CampBX. If you can stand the 3 or 4 days to wait for your money order to get there then CampBX is a good value.
-
List updated to report scamming vendor:
☣ BankofCoins: http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/messages/send_message/29eccb55ff - BANNED

CampBX is my shit, basically all I have to do is send them a USPS money order.

Waiting on reviews and clarification.
Edit: Restored to the list.

I've never bought from SR before but I'm more than willing to, I'm looking for what bitcoin service you guys would recommend in Canada as most of them as for a couple pieces of ID and even a phone call to verify an account.. I'm trying to get around this as I'm only really going to be buying from SR. Any suggestions?
-
Bitcoins are perfectly legal. Send them to an anonymous wallet that is accessed via Tor then onto SR. Or, send them to a mixer then to SR.
-
In South Africa - www.bitx.co.za
:D
-
Probably already been mentioned but for UK people: https://localbitcoins.com/
Find a trusted vendor who does bank transfer and you'll have your bitcoins within a few minutes in my experience - been getting it at below market rate recently as well.
-
I will be available all day or until i run out of coins. Only 5% and if you have 50 posts and write me a review you get it back! If you want your coins right away im a sure bet. :)

Bump for knowledge.

shit thanks man! great for a newbie

I need to report a BTC Vendor who is scamming.
This vendor has a good reputation and came highly recommended. I have used him before with no problems.
However, he's had my money over 4 days now, instant bank transfer.
He's recent FB is really bad. Loads of people being scammed. all 1/5 FB. The guy has gone totally dark, not even reading messages.
People really need to be warned as he still has a good ranking. Obviously it was just a ploy to pull off a major scam. As i understand it, he had the U.K market sown up, and i guess the temptation was too great. I'm personally £100 out of pocket. My main concern however is stopping this guy before other get scammed.
Any advice on recourse would be much appreciated, i know we are all screwed as he has our money but if we can get him banned all the better.
The vendor is:bitcoins

There is no recourse other than to report to SR support. They may be able to freeze the account and prevent withdrawals.
If you report a vendor, please provide the vendor's URL so other can take a quick look without having to search. Like this:
Bitcoins - http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/user/c536b90105
I can't add as a scammer yet because it may be that it's just taking a little longer than usual for this vendor to get coins out. But I can leave a cautionary note on the 1st post.
-
Added under "Use with Caution:"
◾ Bitcoins (UK SR Vendor) - http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/user/c536b90105 - seems to be taking longer than usual to fill orders and reading but not answering messages. Could be flooded with orders and is unable to keep up. People who have had multiple past experiences report things going sour recently.
-
Nice list thanks.

I've used bitcoin-brokers.org a few times and received my BTC within a few hours of making a cash deposit at the bank. My go to source for now.
I'm tempted to try CampBx. Their exchange rate for buying BTC is usually lower than the price here on SR but I don't want to hassle with mailing in a money order and waiting 4-5 days to buy the BTC. However, if you have the time, it looks like one of the best exchanges at the moment.

Vendor has atleast made contact today, explaining that he had some problems with the Feds.
Has not transferred my BTC yet, so jury is still out, but in the interest of fairness, i felt i should update here.
I will update further if & when my BTC are finally with me.

I have used localbitcoins.com 3 times, all very successfully. 2 face to face exchanges but then I found a seller willing to accept PayPal so I bought $100 worth of BTC and had them in my wallet in about 10 minutes, super easy flawless transaction. Was using PayPal a big mistake? I thought I read somewhere that its illegal and to never use PayPal.
Should I be worried about using PayPal? Seller sent me an invoice that said was for goods and services which I paid but now I am concerned about paper trail for LE. Anybody have knowledge on the legal aspects involved here?
-
Yes, it leaves a paper trail. But buying bitcoins is not illegal. The risk of using paypal is with the seller since you could potential chargeback the transaction.
So you might want to tumble those coins before sending to SR

Bought 1 btc from CoinBase.com for $95.47 on Monday. I still don't have it, but it is supposed to arrive tomorrow (Friday). It took from Friday-Monday to verify my account, but they make you wait 4 days to get your coins. You also have to use a bank account. I will update once I receive my coins.

CryptoKeeper has been a life saver for me. I've done 5 or 6 exchanges with him and he always comes through with very reasonable rates.

What's really going to suck is if the btc price keeps dropping, I'm going to be short by a few cents after having to wait about 6 days to even get the damn thing.

BitBargain is a UK market for buying and selling bitcoins - https://www.bitbargain.co.uk
Prices vary according to which sellers are online; typically they run from approx the same as Mt.Gox prices to well above them. Most sellers accept payment by bank transfer, but other methods specified include Pingit, OkPay, Ukash, and Natwest PYC. I've used them a couple of times without a problem.
-
Localbitcoin is by far the best, even for online transactions. Just fine a seller with 100% rating, 70+ trades, and over 150 btc traded and you'll be solid.

What's this talk about Thamiddleman?
And no we're not related. Who came up with that nonsense? And no I don't work for emo-whatever bitcoin scamming outfit. The forum auto-filters out the URL of these scammers who post hundreds of spam threads every couple of days.
What idiot would think I work for a scamming bitcoin site when I list them as scammers all the while providing the community with a list of places to acquire BTC?
What's wrong with some of you people? Thamiddleman in particular. I do you a solid of adding you to the list and you turn around and accuse me of working for some BS bitcoin scamming site that relentlessly spams the forum? WTF?
Say bye-bye from the list.
Matter of fact, you should probably be added to the SCAMMER section of the list. How's that for making baseless assumptions?
-

Hmm.
Seeing how obvious it is that Cimicon-rep is not E M O C O E . C O M (given that it is listed as a scam site and the vendor Cimicon doesn't deal with Bitcoins yet provided this community with a valuable resource any), one must conclude:
ThaMiddleMan is setting up a scam and run operation. He's trying to generate as many orders for BTC as possible in the shortest amount of time by spamming the forum to attract victims. What will happen next is that he'll cash out all the MoneyPaKs he receives and perhaps put up an excuse on his page for the inevitable delay in processing orders. Then he'll fold up shop taking listings down and last seen will report days and weeks.
But since all it takes to become a vendor is a $500 bond, he'll simply start up again under a new account and repeat the scam using a small portion of the money he stole from unsuspecting victims.
All would be advised to steer clear of this person and instead use the established businesses and vendors on the list.
You have been warned.

Well, I would disagree with localbitcoins. I got fukt by a dude with 30+positive feedbacks. Initially responded quick, said all the right things and based on the feedback and reviews I felt pretty comfortable. Well, once I sent the MP # he disappeared and won't even return my emails. So I tried to call the number on the add and holy shit it put my phone number on some dialer. I have my number blocked so I don't know how the hell that happened. I was getting calls from all over the globe every 10 minutes. Had to change my number.
Anyway, this guy is a scammer,

If mentioned on another page I cant see it. Id recomend http://www.bitbargain.co.uk payment methods supported include bank transfer pingit ukash etc. On a good day I can buy coins transfer around and get them to SR all in about an hour. Very quick but not the cheapest.
-
got my last pile from localbitcoin and went easy.
-
I've always found someone on SR to get coins from. Fortunately I haven't been ripped off. That has been a matter of luck because when I was new I could have fairly easily gotten scammed. My last SR source for bitcoins has been MoneyPakJack and he has been great. When I found he was no longer working I was alarmed and explored many alternatives but hadn't found any which I was happy with. LocalBitcoins is undoubtedly good, but I found it difficult to learn how to use it. I could have figured it out eventually, and I might yet have to learn it, but it is a lot more difficult than buying a MoneyPak card and sending the number to someone on SR. Now that MoneyPakJack is back in business, even if only occasionally, I won't have to learn to use LocalBitcoins. I recommend MoneyPakJack above all other sources for bitcoins. Only 5% commission and the bitcoins are in your SR wallet in 10 minutes. Amazing.

MoneyPak Trader appears to be solid. Saw his post here and decided to just use the website. I've got the MoneyPak ready to go, but I decided to wait a day or two since the BTC rate has been dropping in my favor. However I read his reviews very thoroughly because I wound up doing some graphic design work for him through BTChat, wanted to learn more about the site. He promised $25 worth BTC to the design he liked best. I had it just a few hours after posting my design, I think he even threw in a little extra. Apparently he has some rivalry with someone on BTChat who posts lots of negative feedback, but it seems to be from the same person. I plan to use his service as soon as I like the BTC rate. Seems way easier than going through all the BitInstant shit anyway, good riddins to that I guess.

There are a lot of exchanges out there (I wouldn't use them though).
I would take a look into localbitcoins. Very easy to use and anonymous. You can either do cash meet up or buy online by depositing cash into the Bitcoin Vendor's account. Like Cimicon-Rep said, they have escrow as well. That helps protects buyer and seller.

Localbitcoins and bitquick seem to be the go to places for BTC. But don't overlook some of the vendors. Some can be more flexible and discrete than the aforementioned services.

I was in escrow for near 4 days with CryptoKeeper.. with no response and he went awol. I had sent previous messages and communication was non existent pertaining to inquiries of orders worth thousands of dollars.. The order was canceled.
