i have been told over and over by people to just view guides on pgp keys etc they were helpful to start and to get what i see as less than the basics
i reviewed these guides for hours looking at pictorials and instructions but they leave out SO MUCH
heres my main thing..dont make fun of me lol, I STILL DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO TYPE THE ACTUAL MESSAGE because they never covered that they just covered adding contacts etc.
anyhow ill list off some questions and if you guys can help with any of them i'd be sooo thankful(i remind you im new to pgp and somewhat new to SR)
1.is my pgp ("gpa")page an actual message sender itself or does it just encrypt a message through notepad or on a seperate site
2. where do i type what i actually want to send to my message receiver!?!?!?this one drove me crazy >_> never mentioned in any guides i looked at
3. i have heard certain accounts cant decrypt and only encrypt..i would like to do both and as i have heard i can only encrypt with a basic account, how do i decrypt(get an account that can or enable mine to rather)
4. where is my "inbox" for when my message receiver replys to me how do i know they even sent one back?
other than thoos couple things i feel confident in that i know how pgp works and as simple as thoos questions seem...they're never covered in any of the guides on here
DONT SEND ME A LINK TO A GUIDE(lol trust me i've looked at etleast 20 of them)
thankyou much-i know it all seems like alot but better safe than sorry espeacially on a place like this(i still aww at the fact that something like SR exists)genius idea confusing programs >_>

1. open gpa
2. at the top of the page in the menu bar there is a clipboard option click on it
3. type your message as normal in the clipboard
4. in the menu bar on the clipboard is an option to encrypt click it
5. a window pops up select the pgp key of your recipient (if you need help importing keys let me know i'm assuming you already can do this) there should also be a box you can check to "sign" personally i click that and then select my key in the bottom window this is optional.
6. it should ask for your password enter it
7. your message should now be encrypted
8. hit cntrl A and select all
9. hit cntrl C and copy
10. go to the SR market place or the SR forums and go to the profile of who you are sending the message to. (or open your email if you are planning on emailing them)
11. hit send message
12. hit cntrl V and past your encrypted message into the PM
13. hit send and you have succesfully sent a message
go ahead and send me a PM that's encrypted here on the forums. we'll make sure you got this down ;)
here's my key

message recieved and message sent. It looks like we need to make you a new key before i can encrypt and send you one back. i sent you step by step instructions on how to do that. we'll have you encrypting and decrypting messages like it's your job ;)

What does "signing" the message actually do?
-
What does "signing" the message actually do?
When you sign a message, you attach a cryptographic signature to it.
You can verify a signature if you have somebody's public key. If the signature is good, you can know for sure that the message came from the owner of that public/private key, and that it was not modified before it reached you.
If you want to get a little technical: When you sign a message, you encrypt it with your private key. Then somebody else can verify it by decrypting it with your public key. If that second step is successful, the person knows that it was actually encrypted with your private key, and therefore, must have come from you (because nobody else has your private key).
