but when i did, i didn't see it populate in my list, assistant is set to place the newest user at the bottom and i thought it was odd that nothing showed.  anyways when i retry to add the key i get

1 public keys read
0 public keys imported
1 public keys unchanged
0 secret keys read
0 secret keys imported
0 secret keys unchanged

could someone help me out.  the individual with the key does say he/she is not the best with pgp so it could be an old key or something like that

i can import your key just fine.
use kleopatra, it's much better and easier to use than GPA. it should be part of your GPG installation.

the message says that your key was already in the list, so look at the older entries and you'll find it.
