Title: Forged MRIs ...
Post by: 1100101 on October 10, 2012, 06:19 pm
Heya,

Okay, so I remember back in the mid 2000's that there was sort of a wave of people using fake/forged MRIs to obtain scripts for various opiates.

IIRC, this was happening most widely in Florida in the US, and I remember hearing about it happening in Georgia (US) as well.

Now, given the advent of connectivity in the healthcare industry, I don't if people still do this or if it is even still possible.

If it is possible and it is something that people do, it seems like there might be a market for it on the SR.

Now, I don't think my paranoia would allow me personally to try to use something like this, but I think others might give it a shot.

If anyone has any input about this, I'd be happy to hear!

I don't even think you'd have to have the forged mri these days. Last time I was in both of those states you mentioned there were signs up all over the place for "Pain Management" clinics that didn't require any referral from another doctor ( most legit pain management places only accept referred patients to cover their ass with the DEA when they prescribe narcotics almost exclusively). You basically call, schedule an appointment, get there to find a parking lot full of cars with out of state plates, a waiting room full of people who showed up in groups, then get charged anywhere from 200 to 300+ dollars for a script of whatever they're pushing or whatever you're asking for depending on the clinic. There are usually cheaper ones too, but the more expensive ones are the ones willing to write you scripts for rediculous amounts at once.

I had wondered if this might be the case.

You don't think there would be a market for this in some of the more 'controlled' states?

Thanks for your input :)
