So I used bitinstant to email (coinapult) and when I clicked the link in the email to recover my coin, it stated that I had 0btc in that account. I have no idea what happened bc the email stated I should have 20+. I emailed both bitinstant and coinapult, but could anyone help me out here? What do you think happened?

Bumping this as the same thing happened to me (although thankfully it was only a few bitcoins).

Coinapult is not stealing your bitcoins. I'm not sure if that was a joke or not.
To the OP, there have been some hiccups lately with the Bitcoin transfer process. Everything ends up being sorted out after a few hours. You'll either hear back from them or it will just fix itself.
