I have used www.bitcoinexchangeaus.com a few times now to buy coins and have no problems.
They are cheap and fast.

I used LocalBitcoins.com - was very quick and easy - and then transferred them between a few eWallets before transferring to my SR wallet. Yet to make my first purchase though, still getting the hang of PGP.

Gave bitcoinexchangeaus.com a try and am happy with the outcome.  Paid 3%.  Compared it to spendbitcoins.com and seem much better off.  Thanks for the help.

You should try out either localbitcoins.com or CoinJar.io.

CoinJar.io offers a 2% fee as aposed to spendbitcoins.com which offer 10% but what they have is reliability.

localbitcoins.com on the other hand just like CoinJar.io can offer vendors letting you do OTC ( Over the counter ) cash deposits or bank wire transfer, they also offer a low % fee depending on who you use, doing your research will lead you to find a good vendor that is honest.

CoinJar.io is a bit like MtGox in the sence that they require 2 forms of ID if you want to wire transfers ( localbitcoins.com does not ) and they need to verify a valid user by requesting a working mobile number, also for the first transaction you must only deposit $100 to then have your account accept $500 a week later ( yes you have to wait a week ) and then every transaction from there on it will go up another $500 to a limit of $5000.

I can not comment on www.bitcoinexchangeaus.com as I have not used this service because to me it didn't look legit.

Thanks.

I don't like the idea of signing up and needing to verify ID etc. so was attracted to spendbitcoins or bitcoinexchangeaus.

CoinJar.io only has you sign up because it uses their own Bitcoin Wallet which you can then just use as a temp storage.

It only requires ID if you want to do wire transfers so it is actually the same as spendbitcoins and localbitcoins in regards to OTC transactions.

A little research goes a long way.www.bitcoinexchangeaus.com

Thanks.

I don't understand why people are so worried about releasing ID to a perfectly legitimate business? Bitcoins have nothing to do with SR, besides it being the form of currency it uses. You are not a criminal just because you buy Bitcoins, it's where you spend them is what could possibly make it a crime.
There are plenty of legitimate business' that have an optional BTC checkout system on their websites...does that make them a target for LE to investigate? I doubt it.

Being a little paranoid is not a bad thing, some may put the case forward that Having a form of ID linked to a bank account that is used to buy Bitcoins can be used as a way for LE to try and collect evidence against a vendor or user. Not many people can wash their coins and with a company like CoinJar.io they have a policy that says they will give over any information if a court order is presented to them.

I started out using spendbitcoins before switching to coinjar after discovering they only charge 2% compared to spendbitcoin's 10%. I made the mistake of using bitcoinsnow about 5-6 weeks ago and am STILL trying to get my money refunded after they had trouble with the Commonwealth bank and MT Gox. Talk about being fucked around!, very pissed off.
Now Coinjar is all I use, although I does require u to transfer it out of your coinjar wallet into your own wallet.

1# Purchase Bitcoins with CoinJar.io using OTC method.
2# Deposit the exact amount of money needed for the tansaction. ( Will speed things up )
3# Bitcoins are ready for use in the CoinJar.io cloud based wallet.
4# Transfer your Bitcoins to a BitFog address and let them wash your coins.
5# Transfer your coins out of BitFog to either your SilkRoad address or your own personal wallet.

CoinJar.io costs 2% and BitFog has a max of 3%.

Remember to never keep to many coins left in your SilkRoad wallet, a personal wallet ensures that you do not have to rely any cloud / 3rd party based system to trust. Set a backup Bitcoin address in your SilkRoad account settings incase anything happens.

LocalBitcoins.com would also work in the exact same way, but some might say that needing to use a valid mobile number to use their service is a security risk.

Just like CoinJar.io you still need to create an account on LocalBitcoins.com for things to work without a hitch in regards to refunds and what not.

Same goes for SpendBitcoins.com I had to create an account when the teller wrote down the wrong reansaction ID when doing an OTC buy.

You could use burner mobile to use with CoinJar.io if you must, but I belive that as long as you wash the coins you shouldn't have anything to worry.

I personally use a website like http://www.honestbeef.com.au/ to purchase my bulk meat products which is a valid place to spend a lot of Bitcoins at, so using sites like this can be used as a valid reason as to why you are using CoinJar.io to purchase Bitcoins.

I'm sorry about this whole spewl, I'm just trying to help others find an answer that suits them the best and honestly SpendBitcoins.com charging 10% is a little way to high.

May math also be wrong but just from the top of my head MtGox AUD/BTC average and/or high + 10% doesn't equal what they display on their page so I'm not sure what their source is.

Thanks.

Ive been lurking now for 3 days, took that long to come down off my last irl purchase but I found a really easy video instruction on how to at least handle yourself with PGP

now if I can just get up the courage to use my idea for getting deliveries Id be ready for my first order

goodluck
