Title: newby question re: shopping cart name/address box
Post by: mortalwombat on December 14, 2012, 02:36 am
I'm a newby getting ready to place my first order. I did read the Buyer's Guide. I did not find an answer to this question.
in the shopping cart where it says "Please enter your name and address as it would be written on a letter:", first of all, who sees that? the seller only? or the seller and SR staff? etc. and secondly, does that field have to be plain text, or can I enter a PGP encrypted message containing my name and address, followed by my PGP public key? I just want to do things the right way on my first order and minimize all risks, as you can understand. Also I don't know what the next page would look like on the shopping cart, after the name/address info is submitted, so maybe that next page would answer my question? who knows. thanks for your help.

Only the seller should see what you have typed in there, not SR staff BUT it is always best to assume SR has been compromised & to encrypt your address so that you can be SURE only your seller can read your address. Sellers should then delete that message once your goods are posted.

Yea, you put the encrypted message in its entirety right into the text window. You don't put your own public key in that window though, because theres no reason for the vendor to message you back in PGP. If you send them a PM in PGP, then you can paste your public key right below the message.
