Title: BBCode
Post by: Malignancy on June 23, 2011, 02:18 pm
Is there a way to enable bbcode on the forums or is it turned off for a reason?  It's just that when someone quotes or posts an image it really looks like shit.  Thanks.

Yep...reminds me of old days, all text... :)  break out tools like *this* for bold and >that< for underline, "" for quotes haha ...or just plain old >> for previous post

and all kinds of fun stuff...pics still scare me on here tho....bbcode would be alright tho...but not vital..

BBCode would be nice, just with hyperlinks and external images disallowed somehow.

bbcode is nowadays a common synonym for pseudo code en capsuled in square brackets and does not imply a certain forum software. this forum is indeed run by the SMF forum software. I suppose bbcode was turned off due security concerns and the SR staff did not want to bother with the actual bbcode parser of the SMF forum to work out those concerns

What I find incredibly frustrating is that even though the forum doesn't support BBCode, it still tries to output BBCode.

For example, when you quote someone's post it puts
Quote
...
in there, even though that BBCode does NOTHING!!!

It was a hack that was hastily put in place to prevent direct linking and the like.  Something more permanent needs to be put in place, but all it takes is someone forgetting to NOT click on links to get them self in trouble.
