Title: Error when sending all of my bitcoins directly to user
Post by: Rawkingfish on August 05, 2012, 01:37 pm
Hello, I've been trying in vain to send the remaining amount of btc in my SR account directly to a vendor (username) I keep getting an "insufficient funds" error when entering the actual amount in my SR balance. I had to settle on sending .01 btc less than the agreed amount to the vendor and leaves me 0.01 remaining in my account. Trying to send the 0.01 gives the same error....Am I missing something? I tried a forum search, but it kept timing out for whatever reason. I've read through the newbies guide and all, maybe I missed it...I wouldn't be surprised...

Thanks!

Edit - I should mention that I tried both formats 0.01 and .01 no difference, both give the error.

Edit#2 - As I explained below, this situation is not as fishy as it sounds in my original post, I should've explained the situation a little better, but I wanted to avoid too many details in the interest of "anonymity". This course of action was in no way encouraged or offered by the vendor, It was my proposal. As I say below, I fully understand the risk!

Sorry if this isnt much help, but I have managed to send all my coin to myself, using a different name. I only did so because the first name I created I lost my PIN to... and wanted to make a purchase before the 7 day wait for a reset. Anyway, it worked for me. Have you tried asking support? (Bottom right-hand side of SR)

By the way, are they asking you to go outside escrow, is that what this is? If so, don't. If you pay them directly, and get ripped off, you have no protection. If they request you pay them directly, well, that sounds sketchy to me. Maybe I am reading this wrong...

Every time I cash out my account I have the same problem/ I enter the amount shown and then receive and insufficient funds message. I think mine is up to seven cents now,

Not exactly, I'd rather not get into the details of the transaction, but I expressed a timing concern with the vendor after placing the order, and vendor worked with me to try to solve my dilemma, I only had enough btc in my account to cover 98% of the shipping option and agreed to just send what I had....vendor(awesome vendor)covered the rest.

So when I tried to make good on my end, I just feel like an ass shorting them on what I said I could cover.
It's both a weird/quirky bug? Feature? And a personal quest to make good on my word.....I know, it's 0.01btc but still. Principle and all that. I notified to vendor and hopefully things will work out, now I just want to know the "why"

Thanks for the response, I was hoping someone had a good answer here before I bother the support guys......I really hate being "that guy"

That seems like the same issue in a different setting, weird....as much of a bummer it is for you...I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one! :)

Hope things work out for you! But really sending coin directly is pretty much advised against. And I am pretty sure vendors are not supposed to request going out of escrow like that. I just think its an odd thing to do.  Good luck though!

Thanks! For clarity, this was by my request...I expressed the concern after the fact, and the vendor in no way encouraged me to take that route. Vendor has great reputation and feedback, and chose to put some trust in a new-ish buyer, and I in turn just want to make things right. I realize that what I did is ill advised around here (and for good reason) I rationalize it by looking at the risks involved for all parties, and the importance of building trust and reputation...If I get burned, I know that I made the mistake, it was my decision to go outside of the system safeguards...what's the saying? "buy the ticket, take the ride"? I'm sure as in face to face interactions in drug culture, eventually my desire to build trust with vendors will bite me in the ass.

Thanks again for trying to help, I went ahead and contacted support, based on what 20DollarBILL is saying, I'm not the only one.....so that's comforting! I really just want to know if it's some sort of inherent issue with btc in general, or just the way they are handled in the SR wallet.

Got the answer from Support, it makes perfect sense.... if anyone is curious here is the answer:

Bitcoin is accurate to 8 decimal places, but SR's system rounds to 2 for the display. Your account actually has less than .01 BTC in it.

Problem solved!

I have searched the site for an answer to my question but so far haven't found it
This thread appears to be the closest to a conversation that would be on topic

I JUST tried sending BC to someone else on here and forgot to include a brief portion of the suffix at the end of their name

Their screen name is : XXXXXX(##) with the two ##'s being actual numbers in parenthesis
I sent BC to: XXXXXX and left off the two #'s in parenthesis afterwards

My BC immediately were removed and I've asked the member if they received the BC but so far, no answer
I've also sent a notice to site support in case I did something wrong

My questions:

1) Does the site search up the closest name to what you enter if you leave off a portion of the screen name like I did?

2) Does the site's tech response staff usually help resolve issues like this in a timely manner?

thanks for any input in advance!
