When you make a purchase on silk road, there is a unspoken checklist that everyone has. What all buyers want to know about a seller is
- Package stealth (how safe will this shipment be? What are the chances of my order getting intercepted?)
- Seller trustworthiness (seller since when? how many positive/negative transactions?)
- Seller communication (will this seller reply to messages in a timely manor? Will this seller work with me if something goes wrong)
- Ship times (can I expect my package in 5 days or 25?)
- Product quality (is this product what the seller claims it to be?)
Simply having one overall rating for a transaction doesn't provide enough info for other buyers on its own. There are too many variables. A seller might be stealthy and friendly and have a great product yet packages might take 20 days to arrive from them. The 5 star rating has no way to communicate this. Yes a buyer could leave that in the comment box in a review, but many buyers may be reluctant to do so if some or most of the needs were met. Sellers can put ship time averages on their seller page, but they can put any number they want there and would obviously have cause to put times lower than what they truly are.
What I am purposing is a 5 star rating for each of the categories listed above when leaving a review. These ratings can only can be left after a finalized transaction and are completely anonymous to the seller. His feedback rating will show the average star rating for all the categories, with the exception of the ship time, which will have a text box for the buyer to input the estimated number of days that the shipment took. The average of this number will be taken based on the last 10 or 20 transactions and displayed on the sellers feedback page as well.
Doing this will make it easier for buyers to find sellers without having to spend too much time in the forums.
Would welcome feedback on this purposed system.

I wouldn't make it anonymous. People would leave terrible feedback and the seller would have no chance to make things right. Plus a buyer could leave completely inaccurate feedback and there would be no way for a seller to challenge it. Other than that, It's a pretty good idea.

Yeah that's a great idea. It seems like a lot of buyers on SR are just too lazy to include more info on their purchase. Ive seen so much one word feedback It's kind of annoying.

I agree there should be more than one rating category. Possibly a choice to remain hidden...

my thoughts exactly.

Yeah, it's really annoying to see on a vendor page, dozens of feedbacks of "FE" "FE" "FE" "FE" "FE"...
FreshKids, the "Seller trustworthiness" is defined by all the other categories. If he lies about something or exaggerating, than he will get the appropriate feedback.
Also, the feedback should stay anonymous to everyone except for the seller, so if he gets negative feedback from someone, he can discuss with the buyer about it.
Last thing, after a buyer finalizes a transaction he must to provide all of the ratings in order to buy from that seller again. That way, every buyer will be forced to rate and give feedback.
Anyway, it's a really good idea. Thumbs up ;)

I guess it's possible that specific questions could stimulate more thorough reviews, so I guess I'm for it.

I second the need for a deeper ratings system. There needs to be several categories to rate on.
Also, I would like to see seller and product reviews split. I would like to know when some bud is simply average vs SUPER HIGH QUALITY A++ DANK MEDICAL!!1, but I don't think the seller ratings should take a hit. Maybe keep seller ratings on the 5 star system, but split off a different section for product? Possibly 10 star to differentiate and allow for higher accuracy.
I know we have the review threads, but imo, they can sometimes be a pain in the ass to find and use properly.

I agree that adding a multi-part rating system would be nice, but I would still leave it so the vendors can see who rated what. That would avoid the occasional dick from leaving a fraudulent review. I would suggest in the interim that you search your vendors on the forum, as there seems to be more specifics in the feedback on here.
