Title: Should I be worried?
Post by: Mecajesus on May 08, 2012, 08:01 pm
Well i just received a notice in my mailbox stating "I will deliver when paid" from the mailman, it pretty much states that I owe some sort of postage fee of like 2 dollars. The only package I was expecting from here.

Should I be worried? I think I have to go to the post office and pay it either way if I want to receive any more packages.

But this has never happened to me and I feel like it's sketchy.

I think postman is trying to blackmail you :)

In all seriousness though I think all of SR agrees that in these situations you just HAVE to count the package as a loss.  Even if it's only a 1% chance that LE is involved its still not worth risking yourself going to jail for any amount of time.

But hey, just my $0.02  8)

Sounds a little weird.  Most of the time it would say postage due... try putting a couple of bucks in your mailbox.

So I shouldn't even go for it anymore? It seems pretty legit, as far as the notice goes and it's wanting me to pay it at the post office or something.

Has anyone ever received this for just any package before? I want to know if it's a normal thing..

They have a standard note that says "postage due" if you owe postage. I agree that it sounds like blackmail, count it as a loss and get another drop.

As other have said, count it as a loss. It's a trap, they just want you to show up and they will arrest you..

Ok, well i decided to take it out of my mailbox, it's an envelope thing orangeish in color, with all these fee's, and on "Postage Due Mail" it sates I owe $1.50, then underneath "I will deliver when paid, and i read some instructions on it and it pretty much says leave the money in the envelope.

So i guess i blew it out of proportion, the amount of money it requires is to low for a blackmail, just the first time i've ever seen this. And when ordering drugs and this popping up, it freaked me the hell out lol.

This doesn't seem like an unusual thing, so i'm just going to put the money in the envelope and leave it in my mailbox as instructed lol.

That actually sounds legit. Put the money in the mailbox and wait for your adventure to begin.

Yep sounds legit to me as well.  I've had this exact thing happen with legitimate mail from ebay and such.  Just put the money in the envelope, leave it in your mailbox and they deliver your mail.  Let the vendor know so they can prevent it from happening again though.

I would worry. Why in the world would the US Post Office company send something without being paid up front? Heck, if that works maybe I can send stuff and make the receiver pay the stamps?? If something doesn't have enough postage doesn't it just go back to the sender?? UNLESS there is no sender??

Usually it does get returned to the sender, unless the mailman who is delivering it or someone way down the sorting facility notices it. You have to think about the volume the USPS deals with, mistakes happen, they let drugs through ;).

I've received that orange envelope multiple times for orders from eBay or private sellers on Amazon. Usually it is for an amount between 25 cents to $1.50. I asked a postal clerk once about this because I thought if a package did not have the right amount of postage, it would be returned to the sender. The clerk said when the amount needed for delivery is that low then USPS gives the person the opportunity to pay the postage instead of sending it back.
